This opens up very sweet but in a dense and slimy way that makes me dislike it instantly. Drydown is similar to Tsar but less elegant. This is not better than Tsar at all ! There´s a lot of "harsh Russian winter" or "Tsar´s winter palace" concept in the bottle coloring. But it forms a paradox with the sweet scent and the color ideas are executed in materials that don´t convince. If this had not been a mistake for Van Cleef then Zanzibar would not have followed it only three years later. My guess is that Eau du Tsar was a failed attempt to cash in on the "super sweet and near unisex trend". Van cleef did this by modifying their excellent Tsar. The Sculpture fans will probably like this scent but for me it´s not Van Cleef at all. It´s not elegant enough, ergo: it doesn´t go with fine jewelry or formal occasions, ergo: it´s not a true Van Cleef & Arpels.
Then again, paper and skin can be two totally different surfaces when it comes to drydown differentiation. I don't know why I keep forgetting that. 2*s and no more.
My comments here refers to Tsar that came in the green box-shaped bottle with the gold cap - not the one shown here. When the salesgirl sprayed my wrist with it, the floral and spicy fragrance turned out sweet and salty. Okay but not classy enough. However, after a while, and especially if you put more than the recommended dosage which is a squirt, it turns out to be a headache like the sort tsars would have when their regimes disintegrate, as the oakmoss patchouli and sandalwood fight for dominance over your fragile aura. And it seems the battle rages forever! The smell is longlasting which should be the way but unfortunately this eau de toilette reminds me of the unmistakable air that barber shops and hairdressing salons generate from within. What I want to know is what REAL women really think of this product as I have no idea why that salesgirl thinks it's great other than that she's desperately trying to clear the shelves of it so that the shop will not attract tsars with mullets!
After Zanzibar, this is the only other VC&A scent I've ever tried and not bad. BUT.........I do agree with BK/Chris that it lacks originality and smells a bit synthetic and I agree with Mauricio that Zanzibar is the best from the designer. This fruity-fresh and clean-smelling fragrance is kind of a cross between Nightflight and Claiborne Sport.
Some women tell me they like it, others tell me it smells cheap. Personally, I think its good, but unoriginal.
This is a nice scent, though I'm a bit dissapointed because it seems to be very close to Davidoffs Goodlife and this fact puts a certain shade on its originality.
THIS IS BETTER THAN TSAR, BUT ZANZIBAR IS THE BEST VAN CLEEF MEN FRAGANCE
This is much lighter than Tsar. It is clean an unique. It is hard to find since Dayon Corporation (now Target Corp) discontinued it from its Marshall Fields stores (formerly Daytons).
Not at all, there is an other compilation.
is this the same as the earlier Tsar?
