APPLYING FRAGRANCES |
MARY |
03/16/2011 03:44 AM |
|
BEAUTY TIP BY MARY |
|
* When using an eau de cologne, eau de toilette, or eau de parfum, you can spray liberally. These versions
of fragrance can be used all over, from head to toe.
* Or spray into the air and walk into a cloud of your fragrance. This is a method that insures even
application without being too overwhelming.
* Perfume is the most concentrated version of scent. Apply this fragrance at your pulse points (areas on
your skin where blood flow is strongest and the skin is warmest): your wrists, behind your ears, your chest,
neck, or behind your knees and inside your elbows. Your body warmth will then radiate your fragrance.
* Never rub, because rubbing crushes the molecules of the fragrance & ruins the scent. |

CARING FOR FRAGRANCES |
MARY |
03/16/2011 03:43 AM |
|
BEAUTY TIP BY MARY |
|
* Store fragrance away from direct, bright sunlight, in a cool, dark area (the fridge is great!), with the cap
tightly secured. Fragrance oils can turn rancid or evaporate if stored improperly.
* Fragrances can change after a few months, so make sure to not keep them for years - they won't smell
like they first did when you bought them. |

FRAGRANCE STRENGTHS |
AMANDA |

|
BEAUTY TIP BY AMANDA |
|
Perfume is composed of fragrant oil extracts diluted in water and high-grade alcohol. Some are more
concentrated than others, which determines the level or “strength” of the fragrance, and the lasting power of
the scent. Here are the different fragrance levels:
* Cologne – least concentrated (fragrance lasts up to 1 hour)
* Eau de Toilette – concentrated (fragrance lasts up to 2 hours)
* Eau de Parfum – concentrated (fragrance lasts up to 3-4 hours)
* Perfume or Parfum – the most concentrated and longest lasting (fragrance lasts up to 5-6 hours) |

SKIN CHEMISTRY |
TERRY |
03/16/2011 03:42 AM |
|
BEAUTY TIP BY TERRY |
|
Everyone's skin chemistry is different. Skin acidity, diet, and hormones all affect a fragrance.
* The biggest factor in how a fragrance will smell on you is your body's PH balance. Ideal PH is alkaline -
but stress and poor nutrition will turn your balance to acid, and that will affect fragrance.
* Diet can affect the way a fragrance smells. With high fat, spicy diets, for example, fragrances are more
intense. A change in diet can change skin chemistry, causing a fragrance to smell differently.
* Skin type also affects the way a fragrance smells. Fragrances on women with oily skin will have a more
intense scent than those with dry skin. |

FRAGRANCE USE |
LILY |
03/16/2011 03:41 AM |
|
BEAUTY TIP BY LILY |
|
A fragrance can be worn in several different ways. You can put it at the base of your throat in the where your
collar bones meet. You can spray it or dab it directly onto your inner wrists just below the palm if you don't
want to smell the scent quite as strongly.
At the jaw line behind the ear and on the décolletage (the upper chest above the cleavage) are other popular
locations for perfume. Any place on the body that has a higher than average surface temperature gives a
scent more "throw" making it carry further.
Spraying perfume on your clothing or a scarf is an option if you have sensitive skin. However, the ingredients
in perfume can cause delicate fabrics such as silk to deteriorate or become discolored. |

LAYERING FRAGRANCES |
LIZ |
03/16/2011 03:37 AM |
|
BEAUTY TIP BY LIZ |
|
For a long-lasting effect, fragrance should be layered all over the body, starting with toilet water or eau de
parfum, next in strength to perfume, to build the fragrance foundation. Because fragrance rises, spray or
smooth fragrance onto skin from the feet to the shoulders. If fragrance is applied only behind the ears, it will
eventually rise and disappear.
The wearer's diet can affect the way a fragrance smells and lasts on the skin. If the wearer is on a high fat,
spicy diet, for example, fragrances will be more intense. A dramatic change in diet can alter skin chemistry,
causing fragrances to smell differently. |

10 ABSOLUTE DONT'S OF GREAT HAIRCARE |
ABBY |
03/16/2011 03:33 AM |
|
BEAUTY TIP BY ABBY |
|
To avoid all hair care disasters, follow these 10 absolute-don'ts of great hair care.
1. Avoid unprofessional and over-the-counter hair care products whenever you can. Many of these only offer
false hopes and promises.
2. Do not cut your own bangs. Leave all of your cutting needs, even bangs, to your hair care professional.
3. Avoid excessive sun, chlorine and salt water during the summer months. Excessive exposure can cause
severe damage that is irreversible even if you use the best hair care products.
4. Do not use clarifying hair care products on your tresses more than one time per week. They can strip hair
of moisture and essential oils.
5. Do not visit a hair care salon without first getting a referral from someone you can trust. Choosing a salon
based on an advertisement or sale alone is very risky.
6. Do not purchase hair color that comes in a box.
7. Never stick with an outdated look because you are afraid of looking different. Styles change for a reason.
Ask your hair care professional to bring you into this decade with a new style.
8. Do not straighten your hair with a clothes iron. C'mon, this was so over in the 70s. We have straightening
irons now that won't damage your hair.
9. Don't brush your hair or put too much tension on it while it is still wet. This will cause breakage. Also, do
not wear tight styles such as cornrows for extended periods of time unless you have ethnic hair.
10. Never use sun-lightening products |

CHOOSING YOUR HAIRBRUSH |
JANICE |

|
BEAUTY TIP BY JANICE |
|
Even when combs are concerned, plastic combs have sharp-edged teeth and this can damage or break the
hair. Choose a wide toothed comb made of hard rubber, horn, tortoise shell, or even wood.
If you must use a brush, plastic bristled brushes, or one with wire bristles are out. Look for a brush with
natural bristles. This would cause the least damage. |

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN SUNSCREEN |
HELEN |
03/16/2011 03:23 AM |
|
BEAUTY TIP BY HELEN |
|
What should you look for when buying sunscreen?
Not all sunscreens are the same. Be sure to:
* Select a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of at least 15. Broad-spectrum products provide
protection against both UVA and UVB radiation. Look on the ingredient labels for oxybenzone,
sulisobenzone, avobenzone (Parsol 1789), ecamsule, titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.
* Watch for added ingredients that may irritate your skin. Some sunscreens contain fragrances,
preservatives and other ingredients that cause skin reactions in some people. If you have sensitive skin,
look for sunscreen that doesn't contain potential allergens, such as fragrances or dyes, and is specifically
designed for your type of skin.
* Understand labels. Look for sunscreens labeled "water resistant," which offers some protection against
washing off in water or when perspiring heavily. Sunscreens can no longer be labeled "waterproof" because
all sunscreens wash off to some extent. Other terms that can no longer be used on sunscreen product
labels include "sun block" (no product actually blocks all UV rays) and "all-day" (no sunscreen lasts all day).
* Make sure any product you use actually contains sunscreen. Many tanning oils and lotions don't.
Products that don't contain sunscreen are required by law to clearly indicate that on the label.

TREAT YOUR SKIN GENTLY |
DEBRA |
03/16/2011 03:16 AM |
|
BEAUTY TIP BY DEBRA |
|
Daily cleansing and shaving can take a toll on your skin, so keep it gentle:
* Limit bath time. Hot water and long showers or baths remove oils from your skin. Limit your
bath or shower time, and use warm — rather than hot — water.
* Avoid strong soaps. Strong soaps can strip oil from your skin. Instead, choose mild cleansers.
* Shave carefully. To protect and lubricate your skin, apply shaving cream, lotion or gel before
shaving. For the closest shave, use a clean, sharp razor. Shave in the direction the hair grows, not
against it.
* Pat dry. After washing or bathing, gently pat or blot your skin dry with a towel so that some
moisture remains on your skin.
* Moisturize dry skin. Find a moisturizer that fits your skin type and makes your skin look and feel
soft.

HEALTHY SKIN TIPS |
BETSY |

|
BEAUTY TIP BY BETSY |
|
Protect yourself from the sun
The most important way to take care of your skin is to protect it from the sun.
A lifetime of sun exposure can cause wrinkles, freckles, age spots and
rough, dry skin. Sun exposure can also cause more-serious problems, such
as skin cancer. For the most complete sun protection:
* Avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. This is when the sun's rays
are the strongest.
* Wear protective clothing. Cover your skin with tightly woven long-sleeved
shirts, long pants and wide-brimmed hats. You might also opt for special
sun-protective clothing, which is specifically designed to block ultraviolet
rays while keeping you cool and comfortable.
* Use sunscreen when you're in the sun. Apply generous amounts of
broad-spectrum sunscreen 30 minutes before going outdoors and reapply
every two hours, after heavy sweating or after being in water.

Get a polished, no-makeup look with tinted moisturizers that protect with
SPF.
For the subtlest possible coverage, use a tinted moisturizer in place of
foundation. Blend it along cheekbones, then swipe a bit down the nose and
along the top of the forehead. This will even tone while keeping things light
and sheer.

FOUNDATION MAKEUP TIPS & TRICKS |
JANICE |
03/16/2011 02:38 AM |
|
BEAUTY TIP BY JANICE |
|
Practical tips like how to apply foundation, choosing the right shade and
more.
SEASONAL UPDATE
Don’t wear the same foundation with a summer tan as you would in the
winter. Skin color changes with the seasons, so your foundation should
change, too.
TO BE PRECISE
For the most professional application, use your fingertips or a triangle
sponge to apply foundation. Natural sea sponges don't cover evenly—save
them for your bath. Instead, try foam wedges—the smooth surface strokes
on evenly, the tapered edge blends make-up into tough to reach spots like
corners between the eye and nose.
BRIGHT-EYED TIP
Use foundation on your eyelids even if you never wear shadow. It evens out
the lid’s tone and instantly brightens.
THE BLEND TREND
Be sure to double-check your neck when applying foundation. To avoid a
severe line where your makeup stops and your neck begins, start at the
center of the face and blend outward, gradually applying with a lighter touch
as you approach your neck and hairline.
SHAKE THINGS UP
If you are using a liquid foundation, always shake the bottle vigorously
before applying.
FINE LINE TAMER
To smooth fine lines, normal to dry skin types should prime their skin with a
primer like COVERGIRL and Olay Simply Ageless Primer. Primers
moisturize and even skin tone for a smoother makeup application. |
