| Please don't worry about offending anyone with your pithy comments!!! I love your whole Man-Repellent, like-someone-kicking-the-back-of-your-chair, skin-crawling description: perfect (and in my opinion, perfectly apt when it come to Fendi)!! you're a great, natural writer -- I've noticed other posts of yours, which are always original and lively!! -- and it would be a shame to hold back because you were afraid of hurting somebody's feelings. That's been a pet peeve of mine all along; we're so afraid to speak our minds here, because of so many thin-skinned women out there (including me, sometimes, I admit it; it's hard to hear harsh things about frags we ourselves love and identify with, but that's OUR issue, not theirs, and we need to be clear on that distinction), that we don't honor our own right to our self-expression. This is a place for no-holds-barred opinions, isn't it? That's the whole point. It'd be dumb, and counterproductive, to keep on saying, as I have found myself doing after getting lambasted for daring to say that Obsession was as dated as big hair and shoulderpads, "oh, gosh, well, maybe it's just my chemistry, and if you like it then that's swell, and maybe I should keep my awful opinions to myself and save your ego." I force myself to get over myself, and I look forward to reading women bash my favorite scents!!! It builds character!! Heck, it's good to remember we're all different and have different reactions. So Maya and all of you who have strong opinions, don't water them down just because somebody takes offence. In fact, I totally think we have an obligation to blow the whistle on stinky scents like Fendi to minimize the chance that someone will sit next to us at the theatre in a cloud of outdated scent! My very best friend in the whole world, who is loyal, fiercely intelligent, funny, sweet and kind, insists on wearing Oscar, which gets the gag reflex going in me something fierce. I still adore her!!! And she smiles and keeps wearing her adored Oscar, and that's life and we've got to be philosophical, while still carrying the torch of what we really believe in. C'mon, gals, and lighten up! Grow thicker skins!! And DO think about revisiting your own opinions; maybe Maya's right after all! |
