My all-time favorite. It's hard to find and expensive, but worth every penny. The scent is indescribable, and it makes you feel good when you wear it. If you can afford it, buy the perfume instead of the cologne.

  • MIKE03/16/2011

Vol de Nuit was launched in 1933, NOT 1993, as you indicated on your website. Correct your error.

  • JEANNIE 12/03/2010

Neiman Marcus sell is on there website but is it more $$$. 3.1 oz. is $122.00 plus shipping and tax.

  • ALICE COMES11/26/2010

I have been using this fragrance for over 30 years and I would like to place and order but I do not know where to find it

  • MAGGIE07/24/2010

The only thing I know about Vol de Nuit is Katherine Hepburn wore this perfume. I've never bought this perfume, but I had an aunt who wore this occasionally. I can see why Katherine Hepburn wore this perfume.

  • KAREN GABLE03/25/2009

This is the most wonderful perfume I have ever worn. It evokes memories on the deepest level. It is difficult to find and I just can't live without it

  • JEANNE12/27/2007

I received a flat round bottle of Vol De Nuit for Christmas. It must be from the late 30's or early 40s. How can I find out when it was made? It's still in the original box and the bottle was tightly sealed.

  • BARBARA W07/21/2007

My introduction to this fragrance was during a trip to Paris to visit a friend. It's legendary in France, for good reason. Elegant, spicy, woody, dry, mysterious. Very well balanced. Sophisticated in the French aesthetic.

  • SUE C01/19/2007

The woody notes are oakmoss and sandalwood. Vol de Nuit (1933) top notes: orange, orange blossom, lemon, mandarin. Middle notes: Galbanum, daffodil, palmarasa, jasmine. Base notes: vanilla, oakmoss, iris, sandalwood, Peru balsam.

This parfum has a most tremendous remembrance for me. My mother's brother brought it back for her when he served in WW 2. I inherited it when she died in 1957. It is exactly the same beautiful quality as then and brings back such wonderful memories of 58 years ago !! Imagine, 58 years of consistency & dependability. :) Thanks, Guerlain, for the memories.

  • BERITANETTE10/02/2006

I have to say that, even I don't wear it often. I think it's a little bit old-fashioned .. Very soft elegant, nice for winter and not overpowering at all

  • MARY05/12/2006

May I please ask if anyone knows what sort of "woods" are in Vol de Nuit? Does it have a cedar or pine drydown?

  • TBUZZ05/10/2006

I bought the infamous Nahema after reading how precious its supposed to be. Yikes... it smells like hair spray or bug repellant to me.

VdN is a true classic. It's one of my favorite Guerlains. A word of warning, especially if you're new to the classic Guerlains: these older, classic Guerlains were formulated to an aesthetic quite different from today's. There was a time when I'd have shied away from the likes of Mitsouko, Jicky, Apres L'Ondee, or Vol de Nuit. But now I embrace these venerated, beautiful classics. Vol de Nuit is a dark fragrance. The name suits the juice well. It's something of an assertive fragrance, though it's not an in-your-face-and-in-your-mouth fragrance like Samsara. No, indeed. VdN is both sensual and evocative of the past at the same time. I frankly like both the EdT and the parfum. My only complaint is that neither lasts on my skin as long as I'd like. But that's a small matter since it's easy to re-apply.

Thanks for all the feedback on Vol du Nuit. I liked the comments so much, I went out at lunchtime to purchase it. You were all very accurate in your assessment of the perfume -- it's a spicy Oriental that reminds me of the bazars in Morocco! Very nice for winter but not cloying or too sweet like Nahema. Thanks!

  • MARIANNE10/06/2005

I remember as a child visiting my grandmother in Paris. This was her perfume in the distinctive flat round bottle with a pointed glass stopper. The fragrance is unique and beautiful. I was able to find it at a hotel shop in Las Vegas. Sadly they have redesigned the bottle, but I bought it anyway and it even smells different, but I love the idea of it!

  • LASSIE06/10/2005

....not all that long ago in a big department store at the mall. Maybe if you ask the person at the perfume counter they could order it for you. Back to the topic, Vol de Nuit is just the most heavenly fragrance, isn't it? Not sweet and flowery. And the romantic background of this perfume just knocks my socks off and doubles the pleasure of owning it.

  • SUE C05/05/2005

I too recently came across Nahema, which is very had to find. If you normally find rose-based fragrances a bit old-fashioned, this one is anything but. It is unique, very sexy, feminine and definitely very French. It is warm with just the right touch of spice and interesting ingredients. Worth seeking out - you'll love it.

  • SYLVIE04/27/2005

Nice to see here "hard-to-find"- Vol de Nuit, but where is wonderful *NAHEMA* by Guerlain???????? Believe me, Nahema is out of this world!!! It smells heavenly and rocks my world since 20 years. No other perfume comes close or smells similar. If you love roses, passion fruit and vanilla, this wonderful complex Guerlain fragrance is a MUST HAVE. From its delicious fruity start to its warm, ambery finish - this fragrance is one of my very beloved perfumes!!!! It's awesome, unique, breathtaking, mouth-watering and sooo beautiful ***feminine***. I can't describe it better - but this scent is a real beauty. An amazing rare jewel - so special and gorgeous. Glamorous - excellent fragrance. Good hunting ladies!!

  • SUE C08/07/2004

Yes, the novel by Saint-Exupery inspired the scent - the extrait bottle has a design based on a propeller. The perfume is one of Guerlain's best, a lovely woody floral-oriental, warm and sexy and suits cooler weather as it has a touch of leather and spice. I like it better than Shalimar. I first tried Vol de Nuit about 25 years ago and it hasn't changed a bit. A true classic.

  • MARY L.06/15/2004

I remember reading somewhere that Vol de Nuit was inspired by Antoine-Marie-Roger de Saint-Exupery, the French author, poet and pilot who disappeared in 1944. He wrote the novel "Vol de Nuit" ("Night Flight") and "the Little Prince". Anyway, I usually wear either Mitsuko or Femme de Rochas in the autumn and winter, but I'm looking forward to trying this scent. Thanks for the information ladies.

  • COLETTE02/15/2004

I love this perfume, which is classified as Oriental. I read somewhere that it was produced in 1933, it is a sophisticated, enigmatic fragrance with rich woody characteristics. In 1944 , a Wing Commander in the French Air Force disappeared during a mission over occupied France. Neither his body nor his plane was ever recovered. Since then, the French Air Force College at Salen-en-Provence orders bottles of the fragrance specially designed with the French wings emblem to be given out by its Air Force Cadets during official visits abroard. I read this in the late 80's, don't know if it's still true! It is only availabe as EDT and perfume (not spray).

  • MEL09/16/2002

Can't find Guerlin's Vol De Nuit in the USA. My mother brings it back to me each year from her annual trip to London & Harrods.

  • JANE04/03/2002

I am moved by the story behind it.is it discontinued? it is not available in my country and I had tried several times to ask others to bring me one from other countries but all failed, what a pity! I beg your pardon for the mistakes I made in English.

  • JAMINE T04/02/2002

Vol de Nuit was introduced in 1933, not 1922 as I stated in an earlier post.

  • JASMINE T04/02/2002

Vol de Nuit was introduced by Guerlain approx. 1922. It is classified as an ambery oriental, and has distinctly spicy tones. It is composed of the following: Top Notes: orange, mandarin, lemon, bergamot, orange blossom Heart Notes: Jonquil, aldehydes, albanum Base Notes: vanilla, oakmoss, spices, sandalwood, orris, musk

  • SUSIQUE04/01/2002

This is one of the sexiest frangrances around. It is not terribly floral but has an unforgetable aroma!!

  • JANE 03/20/2002

I want to know more about this fragrance, is it very strong?

  • AIMEE12/20/2001

    Musk/Spice/Powder: An interesting spicy scent.

  • EDEN11/23/2001

This is my favorite fragrance by Guerlain. It's a very spicy Oriental scent. I only wear it in the winter-time at night.
