Blends of floral and citrus-based fragrances are recommended for casual and daywear. Spicy, woody or warm amber-based fragrances are traditionally favorites for evening and special occasions.

I now understand why it is named JOY - like true joy in life, it is like nothing else and not found by many in this life. This scent is for that very special woman who is not just happy but who has found her joy!

JOY PERFUME REVIEW BY WOODY PERFUME EXPERT
What people fail to understand is that the essential oils from flowers change each season from climatic conditions. I buy Rose Oil from the same factory in Bulgaria using the same Flower crop but each year it smells different. A good perfumer would notice this change and adjust the oil ratio to compensate. I make Joy in an Almond oil base, smells the same as original Joy.

JOY PERFUME REVIEW BY SHANE
I was intrigued by your comments Elisha regarding similarities between 'JOY', The 'GUERLAINS' and 'PALOMA PICASSO'. To mention a few. I have been augmenting my mothers fragrance cache for most of my adult life, an exercise in devotional trial and error. One of my first presentations to her was a 1fl oz.Parfum flacon of Joy. Several years later I was informed that it had been applied to the filter in the air-con unit in my parents bedroom. I was amused to say the least, it just didn't suit my Mom's skin acid mantle. 'Joy' is a very complex creation and was/is made from hundreds of predominately natural substances. At the time aldehyde's were quite novel and extensively used in perfumery. There is a distinct possibility that Joy and it's high end counterparts are now being re-formulated today due to both the rarity and scarcity of these natural ingredients. The floral absolutes and plant essences seem to be in ample supply, many of the other elements such as fixatives, musks, ferns, mosses, woods and animal derivatives including ambergris and civet are now either unavailable or banned from commercial use. 'Joy' is a divine fragrance and will remain a testament to the art of the Haute Perfumers. One of my Mom's favorites for many years is Mon Parfum by Paloma Picasso, I've just gone out on a limb and purchased her Patou 1000 for a change. They are both chypre-florals so I will keep my fingers crossed. Regards to all. . . . .

JOY PERFUME REVIEW BY BLONDIE
Everyone on this board needs to buy the new book by Chandler Burr the fragrance critic for the NY Times, called "The Perfect Scent". It explains what has happened to alot of these old perfumes and it is not a pretty picture. Most of the old ones have long been purchased by P&G, or some other large fragrance conglomerate. Almost none of the original designers own the rights to their own names. Many had nothing to do with the creation of the scent other than to submit a statement of what they wanted then it is chosen by committee. The ugly truth is that when Patou sold out to Proctor and Gamble they lost all control of the formulae for any of thier scents and there is no way to tell what has been done to this one. I can tell you I've worn it since the 70's and it has definitely changed. My guess is the quality of the jasmine and the roses has in some way been compromised. The price has certainly not been lowered. There are only a few houses left with control and autonomy and one of those is Chanel. Guerlain has some control I think but they are owned by LVMH. If you want the same unchanged scents, go with anything by Chanel. Almost anything else except Creed is a risk.

JOY PERFUME REVIEW BY LUCYINTHESKY
Just bought Joy parfum in St. Thomas and it is NOT the parfum oil I remember. Definately more alcohol. Does ANYONE know where I can buy the original uncut parfum oil. I had some in a black flaconette, but what they sell in that container now is the same as in the 1/2oz glass bottle I bought in STT. I will send to France. HELP!
