| Blends of floral and citrus-based fragrances are recommended for casual and daywear. Spicy, woody or warm amber-based fragrances are traditionally favorites for evening and special occasions. |

| Darn, Maya, I'd forgotten that Perfume Emporium lists Shanghai, or I would've gotten back to you much sooner! Sorry 'bout that. If I haven't mentioned before that I really enjoy your posts and get TONS of useful hints from them, here's my chance to tell you! We've got lots of overlap, too, in terms of what we fall in love with. Lizzzie, as you know, is a great source, too. By this time, you may well have already discovered Shanghai for yourself, but if Christmas was busy and you haven't gotten around to it, PLEASE let me put in a shameless plug for it!!! It's one of the fragrances I own that I simply CRAVE. I just read your last post and had a chance to look at your stash list, and I think Shanghai might be a great missing link! It's different than anything you've got, and yet you've got the nose that would appreciate it. You like rich fragrances as well as fresh and fruity, and Shanghai is a lovely bridge between the two. I'd say it was leaning towards the fresh and fruity; imagine Venezia with the deeper sweetness and sultriness of Amor Amor, through in a little more fruit, and that gets you as close as words can. It's not at all spicy, yet with the plum and osmanthus there is a little something that's similarly bright. As far as Euphoria goes, I can completely understand that you would not want to smell like every hall at the university, a-waft with students drenched in the stuff. That said, to me, anyway, it's so wonderful that I actually don't CARE about its popularity! It's really that good. It's much different than Shanghai -- the fruit is deeper, darker, the wood is more pronounced, the drydown is creamy and earthy -- and I see you like Prada, and so that neo-classic structure is something you already appreciate. It's definitely light years beyond Calvin Klein's usual stuff. Another one you might like is Escada Signature with the green juice; again, it's got fruit, sweetness and wood in lovely proportions, and it's highly original. Of course, you might hate it! Aren't noses the most maddeningly unpredictable things??? Hope you'll update me on the Shanghai/Euphoria front when you have a spare moment. |
