  • SUE REDDING12/03/2012

I have always loved this perfume. It's very girly but not young girly - the name says it all.

  • PAT JONES05/05/2012

What is vintage knowing. I have been wearing for 25 years and have never heard of it. Is it still available

  • BEVERLEY11/06/2011

Have worn it for years and continually have strangers commment on how lovely it smells - economical as a small spray lasts all day

  • LUCINDA04/20/2011

Have worn Knowing for almost 20 years and the number of people who have stopped me to ask what that wonderful fragrance is has been tremendous. I love it and always come back to it. For my children it is what Mommy smells like.

  • CHARLOTTE_SOMETIMES04/10/2011

I agree withall who are unhappy with Estee Lauder reformulating their fragrances. I was so excited a few years back when a store had marked down a giftset of Knowing with a 2.5 oz bottle with body lotion. Upon fisrt spray I immediately noticed a difference- it lack the "oomph" of the mini I had previously owned. So I looked at the ingredient list- it now contained tree moss instead of oak moss. Not sure if that's the culprit but I will only by buying vinage from now on. As to the scent- it is a bold chypre that smells like you are in a forest, not a like a forest of pines or anything, just sun warmed, spicy. It projects in a lovely way. The woman who wears this has a wink and a smile, "knowing".

  • CATSEY02/27/2011

It was my signature fragrance in the 80s- and I just went back to it. I am so happy I did. A classic. Beautiful and elegant. A little goes a long way,and the fragrance just gets better. Este outdid herself with this one!

  • CATHY02/19/2011

This scent is sensational. I love it and always get compliments.

  • REAL MCCOY11/30/2010

Cannot understand why anyone would rate this perfume as horrible - they really must have problems with their sense of smell!!

  • LISY05/20/2010

Makes me sick to my stomach gross the worst or the worst. A co-worker put this on and I heard her go on and on about how great this stuff is. I couldnt even fake a straight face when she put this stuff on. gross!

  • JULIE12/30/2009

My beautiful and elegant mother-in-law wore Knowing when I first met her in 1991. I loved it, too, but I would never buy any for myself b/c I felt it was "her" scent. She recently passed away, and I immediately went out and bought a bottle of Knowing for myself. Wearing it somehow makes me feel closer to her. As far as the scent goes, it is woodsy yet floral at the same time, and it has fabulous lasting power. It smells better after it dries. It is a beautiful fragrance that will always remind me of a beautiful and special woman who greatly influenced my life.

  • KITTY10/06/2009

This fragrance is divine. I discovered it among some small Estee Lauder samples I received over the holidays. I can't believe I did not discover this jewel sooner. The fragrance stays with me and does not disappear by the middle of the afternoon. One application is enough. It is strong but not overpowering. I am so glad I gave this one a try.

  • SMELLIE KAT06/21/2009

Each birthday, I buy a perfume that signifies my mood in September (this is in addition to others that I purchase year 'round). On my birthday, I'm ususally feeling a combination of nostalia, exhilaration and rebellion. Ironically, I usually end up choosing a chypre just because it feels right. After several testings, Knowing kept inviting me back and it was my birthday purchase of 2008. It is introverted but confident, disarming and tenacious. Chemistry must be right, and application must be restrained. Wait for the exquisite drydown. Woody, mossy, just a touch of rose.

  • NANCY06/17/2009

WORE IT YEARS AGO AND AM NOW BACK TO IT, IT SMELLS GREAT EVEN IN THE HOT WEATHER WHEN OTHERS SMELL SOUR.

  • CAP06/08/2009

Excellent, My husband loves it and always compares other fragrances to knowing. It is his and my all time favorite.

  • PAULINE THEODORE05/11/2009

Very good smell and it takes awhile longer for the smell to linger on you

  • CHRISTINA03/01/2009

Knowing reminds me of those old-time wise-cracking New Yorkers - like Lauren Bacall in "How To Marry A Millionaire", or Bette Davis in "All About Eve" - brittle, brilliant, bitchy. It has that same hard-shell exterior and pushover interior beloved of sleek, polished sophisticates. It´s what Americans call "high-toned", "swanky" or "classy" - formidable but basically friendly. The inspiration for this perfume reputedly took place at Cap d´Antibes in 1988, where Mr and Mrs Evelyn Lauder were holidaying. Evelyn apparently wandered out onto the terrace to enjoy a balmy and fragrant Riviera breeze and smelt something wondrously mysterious - a warm, rich scent she couldn´t identify. She and Mr Lauder followed their noses to a green bush full of tiny white flowers with an enchanting perfume. The next day they tracked its origins down, revealing it as pittosporum. Back in New York, Evelyn pressed ahead with the making of a new Lauder scent. To pittosporum´s rich powers she added some other typical Provencale flowers, like tuberose, rose, jasmine, lily of the valley, orange flower, marigold and the much underrated mimosa. For a touch of the Orient, ylang ylang was called upon, along with a battalion of oakmoss, vetyver, amber, patchouli, musk, clove, bayleaf and, finally, rich vanilla. But something more was needed for a warmer and sunnier embrace synonymous with the south of France, and it turned out to be the ripeness of melon and plum. Personally I think it´s their delicious inclusion that gives Knowing its sensuous magnetism, its upbeat modernity and intelligent charm. But attractive and poised as it may be, Knowing belongs to the woman who is a breed apart. She is not averse to glamour, as long as it´s not cheap. She has a certain appreciation of her subtly wielded power, but never flaunts it. Her intrinsic intuition guides her in the other direction where she can charm the angels and get away with it by laughing at herself. She is wise, witty and wonderful. As they say on Broadway, "She´s quite a dame!"

  • WILDFLOWER02/02/2009

I used to wear Knowing when I was in my early 30's. Now 45, I recently bought a bottle and it is still the same classic scent I remember. I think I will really enjoy this in the summer. I am currently wearing Cinnabar and Spellbound. To my nose, the Knowing and Spellbound smell the same and have not been tweaked, but I believe the Cinnabar has; it is not as strong as it used to be and seems to be missing some spice that used to be in it. I always find myself drawn to the Estee Lauder counter. There is, as many other posters have noticed, a certain base scent that seems to be in all Estee classic perfumes. But this is what I think sometimes draws me to them. Maybe that is what makes them great signature perfumes. I love the fact that you can spray Estee perfumes on your inner arms in early afternoon and still smell it on your skin the next morning. You definitely get your money's worth!

  • MARCIA01/15/2009

I have used Knowing Bath powder for years, and I am older, but I love it and it has a wonderful lasting fragrance, I can't believe they are taking it off of the marker

  • FPE05/17/2008

I've had this before and I liked it a lot. However, my sons and sisters thought that it was too strong so I stopped wearing it after I finished my 3.4 oz. bottle. It was my fault 'coz I overdid it so I didn't buy it for several years. I settled for those fruity/floral kind which lasted for few hours. Now, I just found out that my husband preferred those strong scents on me as long as I go easy on them, 2 sprays the most. Spray on 1 palm, rub it against the other palm and massage it on my wet hair after I shower then the next one will be applied on the clothes I'd be wearing. My skin is sensitive so none on the wrist or behind the ears. I bought this again but in a miniature bottle. I prefer to alternate this with Champs Elysees, Coco Madamoiselle, Lolita Lempicka and if I can find a mini Aromatic Elixir, these will be my 'signature' scents. I decided to have 1 oz bottle or minis from now on so I'd have a fresher batch all the time.

  • ME05/01/2008

There are 3 fragrances that I love for summer. Knowing, Agent Provocateur, and Paloma work for me in the summer. I wear heavier stuff and these stay with me and I love the body lotions for all 3! They don't have any sweet syrupy smell that does not work on me in warm weather. Great floral chypres!!

  • BARBARA W02/05/2008

It is easy to overwhelm the whole room with Knowing. One tiny spray and you're done! I think that some people overdo it and that's why others are bothered by it. It's strong!

  • CARLA SCARBOROUGH01/29/2008

I agree with the 2 Julie's. This perfume nauseated me like no other. My sister who wore this all the time was not allowed in my car if she had this on.

  • ANGELA G01/28/2008

this is a very sophisticated perfume maybe not for everyone but I love it I will soon be 37 years old and I love elegant scents and this one is very nice.

  • MARY ALICE12/30/2007

I'm so sorry I haven't checked the Knowing page in so long. I have tried Princess and I loved it, but it did not last on me. The Angel products and Knowing last really well on my skin which tends to be dry. Take care.

  • MUSTAFA12/29/2007

I THINK KNOWING IS A METAMORPHIC PERFUME. AROMATICS ELIXIR GREW DIFFERENT TO KNOWING. HOWEVER IT IS VERY PERSONAL AND EXCELLENT.

  • BOMBSHELL08/13/2007

Agent provocateur the original scent is similar to Knowing but it much softer. Very similar to my nose.

  • BOMBSHELL08/09/2007

I love the smell of this perfume. It is intoxicating to me, however, if applied too liberally it can be a tummy turner. I guess that what I love about this scent is the feelings that it evokes in me. It reminds me of the classic beauty who was confident, strong, and in control of her femininity. This perfume in my opinion is a little heavy on the patchouli---which I find overpowering. I still wear this from time to time because of the feelings it evokes in me, however, I cannot use it everyday. I find that the original Agent Provocateur perfume to be a similar scent to Knowing but much much lighter on the senses.

  • BARBARA W07/20/2007

I agree with the way Annie describes this fragrance. This is a perfume constructed in the classic sense, before perfumers marketed "candy" fragrances to the young crowd. Knowing takes some time to appreciate; you may not like it upon first spritz, but give it a while. Like any truly great perfume that lasts, the notes need time to breathe and mingle with your skin. It's a chypre in the true sense - dry and woody with an earthy sexiness that is addictive. It's interesting to see the male reaction to this! Try some and you'll see what I mean... ;-)

  • ANNIE07/09/2007

I love this fragrance. This rich smelling, classic type of floral chypre is becoming difficult to find now because they are not being created anymore in this style. The new fragrances that are being called "chypre" are very different in character. Knowing will not be to everyone's taste, and probably most younger women won't like it, as they have grown up with a different style of fragrance. Knowing will probably make them think of their mothers or grandmothers. I tried it in a department store and fell in love with the dry-down. It's quite potent initially, you only need a tiny bit, and I would imagine one bottle would last a very long time (!!), but the fragrance develops on the skin into a beautiful floral/woodsy/mossy rich melange. I couldn't stop sniffing my wrist. This is one of my very favorite Estee Lauder fragrances. For me, it is a cool weather autumnal fragrance - the time of year when I love to wear chypres. I will probably buy a bottle for fall/winter.

  • NESE06/22/2007

Hi Mary Alice. I read your reviews and I trust you.I bought HM,Ellen Tracy , both are good but not long lasting.I want to try Herve Leger.I think I'll shopping Angel or Knowing.Did you try Vera Wang Princess ? I'm waiting your answer.

  • MARY ALICE04/29/2007

The bottle of Knowing that I tried several monts ago must have been old. I've purchased a fresh bottle and I love it. I don't get the smokiness of my previous experience. I smell sophistocated roses with a hint of jasmine and a woody, but not smoky, drydown. The lasting power is amazing. I also have the body lotion which is rich and, to me, a bit more floral that the actual EDP. I'm so glad that my desperation to find something that had good staying power led me to give this another try.

  • MARLYS04/09/2007

This perfume is beautiful if used sparingly...just 1-2 sprays. When this is applied extravagantly like today's "sheer" or "transparent" fragrances, it is olfactory assault and battery. The staying power is phenomenal. The coriander and mossiness make this scent very unique. It is simultaneously warm and exciting.

  • MARY ALICE 03/25/2007

I gave this up because of the smokiness, but it did last, even through a shower. I am having so much trouble with staying pwer right now, I may give it another try.

  • MARY ALICE01/28/2007

I wore this fragrance years ago when I smoked. Now that I have quit, Knowing is almost unbearable to me. It smells just like cigarettes with a touch of floral.

  • BLONDIE01/21/2007

If you are a grown up woman sick of all the watery cotton candy out there marketed to teenagers, and want something designed for an adult, this is a good one, as is Spellbound. Only 35 and up can really carry these off in my opinion.

  • RUSSELL12/21/2006

Knowing that she wasn't wearing anything but knowing what I was in for I knew that not Knowing that it was actually Knowing that she was wearing turned me into an animal... I slammed her naked body onto the bed and Knowing exactly what she wanted I knew that it was Knowing that really made her worth Knowing.

  • BORN4MD12/12/2006

i like alot of estee lauder's scents, but i never tried knowing until i read all the wonderful comments. i am so glad i did. try this one girls, it's great.

  • BABYDOLL11/07/2006

hi there, I read your post and thought you might try Parure by Guerlain,I find it very classy, sophisticated, basically what Knowing is.Give it a go and let me know what you think.Parure is not a very common scent, not trendy and wearing it will definitely get you noticed (in a good way).Whatever you decide-good luck!

  • LIZZIE09/15/2006

Hi Candace, if you're still looking for something similar to Knowing, try Cabochard by Gres. If you wear chypres well you should like it a lot.

  • LISA08/11/2006

I have gotten so many compliments on this fragrance that it is now the only one I wear. I have given everything form Caroline Herrera to Nocturnes by Caron, to Chloe' away. I was at a sports event when I ran into an old friend (just a friend) who greeted me with a kiss on the cheek and then stepped back and looked at me and said " you smell like an angel". Needless to say, that sealed the deal, it's been know ever since. If you KNOW what I KNOW you'll give it a shot. Lisa

  • ALICIA07/31/2006

    Turns men wild

  • D07/26/2006

but by the request of my husband, as i had worn it early in our relationship. but ya know, it just never 'fit' me...and it can truly be overwhelming to those around you. i stopped wearing it a long time ago, but i think i can still smell it....:)

  • JULIE05/16/2006

My mom really likes this fragrance, and since I believe that likes & dislikes are so varied in this area, I try to keep my opinions to myself, but with this one, it's difficult. It really makes me queasy, and I don't want to have to say that to somebody, but I had to tell her, so I could be around her without incidence. Love my mom, but that one, has to be used when I'm not around!

  • ELLA04/08/2006

This one just stinks! Its not sexy for a woman at all! It smells like a mans cologne. It does have staying power....If this is your fav perfume ...sorry...

  • GAYLA03/10/2006

I ALWAYS GET COMPLIMENTS! THIS IS A LONG LASTING SCENT & VERY MOSSY. YOU WON'T BE SORRY.

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE02/09/2006

A few more suggestions for you: Animale (chypre-very heavy on the dry woods), Instinct d'Animale (Chypre-floral, similar to Animale, but a bit more floral. I prefer it to Animale, which I ended up donating as it was too woody for me), and My Sin (originally made by Lanvin; now by Irma Shorell-very hard to find but worth it! I found it through LongLostPerfume.com). Again, these are not like Knowing, but embody some of the traits I associate with Knowing. Good luck and let me know how the search goes. P.S. Might be easier to find a new boyfriend!!! (Just kidding)

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE02/06/2006

Sadly, there is nothing quite like Knowing out there. Too bad about the ex-girlfriend thing. I don't know about the Aramis idea from Steve, but I had a few suggestions: Le Parfum by Sonia Rykiel, Chanel's No. 19, Mitsouko by Guerlain (although it's a bit more woody/mossy than Knowing), and Dali by Salvador Dali. Let me know if I can be of more help to you. Some of the scents I suggested are not found in stores to sample. I can mail you homemade samples if you like. Let me know.

  • STEVE01/29/2006

Knowing is almost an identical copy to Aramis for men. The other day i sprayed Knowing on my left hand and Aramis on my right. After they dried down, they were identical scents. The only difference was the initial spritz. Knowing was a little more floral. Aramis is slightly, only slightly i say, more woody. Knowing and Aramis are both unisex scents that can be worn and enjoyed by gender.

  • KATHY Z.09/30/2005

I am addicted to Knowing. I just got my first bottle recently ( mostly because of the positive posts here). I was not disappointed. I have many scents to choose from but every day lately all I want is Knowing. It's partly the change of seasons--In the fall I put some of my summer scents away and take out some that I haven't worn all summer. I have many beautiful fall/winter fragrances but right now this is my favorite. Strong--but in a good way. Complex with many layers. Powerful. Doesn't smell like any of the newer perfumes out there. A classic for a real woman.

  • D09/22/2005

TRY 'MAGIE NOIRE' BY LANCOME OR 'DIVA' BY UNGARO. BOTH ARE SIMILAR TO 'KNOWING' BUT UNIQUE.

  • EWA FROM POLAND09/15/2005

I have been wearing them for more than 10 years now and I am not going to change it. Only these perfumes are worth to be worn by me. They are excellent !!!

  • MIMI08/20/2005

Intense scent. beautiful if applied lightly. Maybe even spray in air then walk into it. scent last and last. Some may not like it though.

  • CANDACE08/19/2005

I am looking for a fragrance very similar to Knowing, with a similar woodsy fragrance. I love it, but my boyfriend dated a girl years ago that wore it and he says it reminds him of her. We wondered if you know of something similar to it, but different enough to satisfy both of us.

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE05/03/2005

Whoa, hold on with this one! Chypre scents are not for everyone, but this one works for me. I tried Knowing in a department store one day on a whim. The next day, grabbed my coat to go out and kept smelling this wonderful scent that I couldn't pinpoint. I knew it wasn't something familiar, yet here it was on my coat sleeves. Then I remembered! It's the Knowing I tried on yesterday! Ordered it immediately online and have been savoring it ever since!

  • JULIE02/07/2005

My mom used to wear this but bless her heart, stopped because it made me physically ill when she wore it. It is one of the most sickening scents TO ME, so ladies, who like and enjoy it, be happy and wear it proudly. (hopefully I'll never have to run into you)

  • SHARON01/20/2005

I have used Knowing for several years now and wouldn't want to have to find a replacement fragrance. My husband makes sure that I never run out.

  • EMMA BOVARY01/10/2005

to the back of my hand where I sprayed Knowing...mossy green, yet fruity...warm and mysterious...truly beautiful fragrance...I smell a sexy woman here...if you love the chypres, this is a softer chypre...love, love ,love this perfume

  • GAIL12/13/2004

Been wearing this for almost 15 years. I keep trying to find something new but nothing ever smells better. I've always gotten compliments from both sexes but usually guys don't know I'm wearing perfume till they get really close. so I guess I go light. Don't know what they are talking about overpowering??.. it's always a surprise when someone I've known for years finally notices I'm wearing perfume. It is not perfumy to me it is a clean woodsy smell.

  • SHIRLEY11/01/2004

My husband loves Knowing. Women and Men (especially the men) complete strangers, have stopped me and asked me what I was wearing. I sell Mary Kay and I still have not found a fragrance that compares to Knowning. I know it's an evening fragrance but I wear it day and night because it's the only one that I can wear without having a sneezing attack. It's also a little expensive even online, but it's worth it.

  • CASSANDRA JOHNSON10/06/2004

I too wore this fragrance years ago and will be purchasing it soon again. I love to wear this scent in the evening for a night on the town. It always leaves you wanting more. This is one of the rare jewels that is always overlooked....................................

  • FUJIYAMA10/01/2004

I have been using this perfume for more than 10years during only late autumn and winter. When I wear this scent, I feel as if my IQ would reach 180.

  • MAXXXX09/25/2004

i have got every perfume under the sun nearly....this perfume is near perfect. Don't over do it....you must go out there and spray it...leave it for an hour and WOW i just cannot express how much i love this perfume. :)

  • LILL09/14/2004

Knowing is my signature cologne. I have always received compliments anytime I worn it. Most of the compliments surprisingly come from women. I can't smell it on me but it seems everyone else can.

  • LIN COLEMAN08/13/2004

I have used Knowing for years and it has always been admired by the men around me. My husband tells me it is his favorite.

  • KAREN06/01/2004

I have been wearing Knowing for 15 years. When I try another perfume, my husband asks me to go back to KNOWING. What more can I say.... We have been together for 31 years! I don't think of myself as "an old lady"!

  • PUZZLED05/28/2004

This is a wonderful fragrance. purchased it because someone at work wore the lotion only! Why do they start cutting corners on quality? I bought the perfume and body lotion years back and just purchased a new lotion. Guess what!, new packaging and not so concentrated. They cut back on the perfume oil in the lotion. Well, that's my beef!

  • SANDY05/24/2004

. Edith---you spelled it wrong! The fragrance is Knowing, not Knowning. It is a really classy smell that lasts a long time. Maybe a little heavy for Summer though.

  • KATHY05/12/2004

    it is so elegant,attractive,sexy.

  • ANNA FROM FRANCE04/26/2004

Well I'm in my 20's (23 to be precise) and.... adore sophisticated feminine perfumes. I've tried many of them (being totally French, I prefer putting some perfum than washing my teeth) but Knowing is the best nightwear for me... I never go to sleep without MY perfume....

  • CHRISTINE03/30/2004

I have adored Knowing for years. It smells like a fistful of unlit incense sticks of all kinds from the local hippie shop. Mysterious. It is for the mature, sophistocated woman. Nothing girlish or innocent here. To set the record straight, the perfume websites list the wrong ingredients. According to Estee Lauder they are: Top notes - rose, tuberose, pittosporum, mimosa, plum, melon, marigold. Middle notes - jasmine, clove bud, bay, orris, lily of the valley, patchouli, orange flower, ylang-ylang. Bottom notes - oakmoss, vetivert, sandalwood, amber, musk, vanilla. (Plus, there is a secret ingredient.) When I wear it, people ask me what I'm wearing.

  • KAIA03/19/2004

I used to wear this when I was younger. Thinking back, God help me, I realize I probably bathed in it. Twelve years later, it's not the kind of scent I'm into. I like things that are more subtle and feminine. Knowing is not a horrible scent. It's just too damned strong. A word of advice for wearers: DON'T APPLY IT DIRECTLY TO SKIN. DO US ALL A FAVOR. SPRAY AND WALK THROUGH IT!

  • JILL02/21/2004

Ladies, please go easy on this. It has a very penetrating spirit odour, which I find very unpleasant. Only one other perfume has the same effect on me, and that is, Eternity by Calvin Klein, which I find very similar. I have to move, if someone comes close to me with this on. It's the kind of perfume that only starts to smell reasonable, when it has practically worn off.

  • BERNADETTE01/04/2004

I have being using knowing for 15yrs and I use it every day. I have received comments from both sexes about how lovely it smells and what is the fragrance I use called. I tell them it is "knowing" of course! They say that they are going to have a try of it. But some fragrances don't suit everyone.

  • WILD HONEY12/09/2003

I smelled this scent once on another woman and KNEW that it was for me. I went out and immediately bought some for myself, and am not disappointed. As to the waay it smells, it reminds me vaguely of Red and maybe Norell, but earthier. I like it.

  • CHRISSY11/25/2003

I find this to be one of those dated Estee scents. Its just too heavy. The drydown doesnt seem to change for me anyway.

  • PERFUMENUT'7811/14/2003

    EROTIC!!!

  • MANDIE11/08/2003

I have many of Estee Lauders fragrances and I purchased this one a couple days ago...it is by far...a wonderful smelling perfume, I give this one a tie with Beyond Paradise:)

  • SASHA08/31/2003

Five glamourous stars for this velvet magic fragrance!

  • MELANIE08/24/2003

I've tried some of Estee Lauder's perfumes, but never tried this one. It's a little heavy at first, but with time it really gave off a warm scent. I'd say this one is a sure shot.

  • OKSANA07/29/2003

Since I came from Russia, I have had the opportunity to work, be financially independant, and afford the things I like. I have worn all the expensive perfumes out there. But the one that gets me noticed and fawned upon times and times again is Knowing. So I give away the others and keep this one for myself. It's not exotic, foreign, or expensive, it's out there in plain view, nobody really notices it, but when I wear it... Nice things always happen. So why would I wear anything else?

  • MYLAAN07/28/2003

This is very, very, very nice. Not an "in your face, legs spread out" obvious raunch factor fragrance at all, it's more of an understated, quietly powerful unforgettable scent. The woman who wears this won't get propositionned a zillion times in the evening, and she won't be stuffing phone #s in her purse all night. But she will get invited to dinner parties and galas, and she will get that single long stem rose delivered at work "for no reason at all"...

  • MARTHA07/15/2003

I have always been a great fan of Estee Lauder Perfumes- mainly because they are not available at just your local Pharmacy or in every Department store- as so many other brands are! I always loved Knowing but when another girl at work started to wear it- copying me- I felt that it was no longer my signature scent and I thus stopped wearing it for some time! I recently read Mike's review- from this site- and it made me realize that I did miss it and since I am now retired it once again can be my signature scent! I have also read Mark's review recently and thanks guys- my husband feels that this is definately the one as well!!!!

  • SALLY SUE07/08/2003

This fragrance should be illegal to wear or possess. It reminds me of old ladies smoking cigarettes. Grody to the max!!!

  • MARK06/26/2003

When she walks across the room and leaves that faint trail behind her, let's just say that my colonel stands to attention and I have to have her... It's not a desperately obvious lapdance kind of scent, it's subtle, classy and then reels me in. She's worn this for years, and it is in a completely different league than those other perfumes out there.

  • KATZIE06/03/2003

I have worn Knowing for many years ..and being I am 27 years old ..you can do the math. This scent can be worn by the young and old. I am asked DAILY by someone what scent I have on and always with a comment of, "it is wonderful!" I have known women, though, who have worn Knowing and it hasn't smelled quite the same on them. Body chemistry plays a part, as it does with every scent. If you want a scent that is rich and seductive ..this is it! Forget the "evening wear" recommendation ...spritz yourself in the morning and lather yourself in the lotion after a warm bath at bedtime. A truly elegant and pampering scent!!

  • LILITH05/29/2003

All the Knowing lovers here, you know what I'm talking about: This has got to be the most underrated fragrance ever! I have shamelessly followed women who wore this to ask them what fragrance they wore, I have sampled it at E.L, and finally, I bought it... a couple of years ago. And it's really nice, blends well with my chemistry, leaves a beautiful sillage, lasts all day... So why can't I remember to wear it more often?? (could it be because I have so many fragrances I can't even think straight?...)

  • MURKI05/21/2003

A coworker wears this and a little goes a long way! But, if worn in small doses, is elegant.

  • DEBBIE05/19/2003

all my friends associate me with this wonderful fragrence - thank you estee lauder

  • LONG LASTING NICE SCENT05/07/2003

You don't need too much of this one; a little goes a long way. Romantic and alluring in a nice way.

  • A SLADE03/21/2003

very enduring powerful bewitching perfume. Love it along with my other estee lauder perfumes. So if you love this one and you have never tried estee lauders other fragrances then you better get to a counter in those departmnet stores and try those other beautiful also is a very nice one been wearing that one for years

  • MIKE03/10/2003

I first was exposed to "knowing" by our 12 year old baby sitter, who had "borrowed" some of her mom's. Taking her home late in the evening, there were whispers of flowers and a richness of fine leather. I bought some for my wife, and the rest, as they say is history. Although I like most of Estee Lauder's other fragrances, Knowing is in fact something magical. It engenders visions of warmth, suppleness, long silent gazes in the firelight. I would say that it is more romantic than erotic (yet it is erotic enough). To me, "knowing" conveys a sense of confident, mature feminity. It is a powerful enough fragrance to leave no doubt that its wearer wants to be noticed. And noticed she shall be! It is a perfume for executives that are proud of who they are as professionals and as women. It is, in fact, a power fragrance: It conveys a sense of power, self-determination, and control mixed with allure. Yet, "knowing" does not assault the senses head on; rather, I think it is perceived in the heart. I do not smell knowing so much as "feel" it. It is a "whole body" experience. A word of caution, ladies, a little knowing goes a very, very long way. This is not some frilly splash. Wear it tonight and your husband will respond to the scent of it until you change the sheets next week. It is among the most enduring fragrances I know, and each stage of its aromatic lifespan is an experience unto itself. At first blush, it is a blockbuster, which then dries into, powerful elegance. The next day it's refined memory will call back memories of an evening well spent. If you are allergic to some fragrances, this may be one that aggravates your nose. I find it best dabbed on discreetly at the back of the neck. Just a drop on the inside elbows or wrists will work its way through your clothing, creating a "layered" aroma that changes as you move through the the room (or across the dance floor). Mothers: keep this away from your young daughters!

  • ROGER03/10/2003

As a man Knowing just knocks me out when I smell it on a lady. It's an absolutely beautiful smell. It's my second favorite perfume of all time second only to Andiamo, no longer made by Marcella Borghese.

  • DANA02/17/2003

I first tried Knowing by accident - I hated how it smelled in the free gift bottle, but picked up the "wrong" spray. Oh happy happy accident! The entire day I was haunted by the scent: the most elegant sexy smell just wafting around me. I get stopped all the time when I wear it - some magic that seems to work perfectly between the scent chemistry and me. (It goes quite horrible on my sister so this is one of those great mysteries of the nose)

  • MAGDALENA FROM SWEDEN01/28/2003

I just want to say that Knowing is the best and finest parfume ever! Thank you Estée Lauder for the beautiful feeling it is to wear this parfume.

  • SHARON ROLAND01/19/2003

Knowing is a fragrance that words can't describe....Dazzling, emotional, exciting, sexy (dare I say it), and sopisticated all in one in a bottle. Estee Lauder thank you for making my life so nice with this wonderful perfume...It is a blessing!

  • DEBBIE01/10/2003

I wore this perfume when it first came out. I rememeber going to Macy's with my mom and spraying a little on and keeping my wrist to my nose for the whole car ride home and thereafter!! I received this for Christmas from my parents because they knew how much I liked it but that was not until a year later when I 17 yrs old. It is a very sophisticated and sexy scent. I stopped wearing it after about 5 years but am now making my way back. I am disapointed that the soaps are gone as well as the non-spray bottle. Like one of the French sisters, I am a fan of body products and I think use of the body products are perfect for this scent because it is strong. Less is definitely more!!!!!!!

  • LINDA01/09/2003

Love it!! People stop to ask me what I am wearing. Very distinctive fragrance.

  • KATHY G.01/05/2003

I work for Estee Lauder at a major department store. We still sell TONS of Knowing. Beautiful, Pleasures, and Intuition are our best sellers, but Knowing still has *plenty* of die hard users. It's no longer advertised, but it still has many devoted fans. So don't worry about it being discontinued any time soon. Knowing is still very much alive and well, sales wise. We have other scents that don't sell a fraction of what Knowing does, and we still have those, too. I can't recall if E.L. has ever actually stopped making *any* of its fragrances, now that I think of it. I can't think of any off-hand that have been discontinued.

  • AUDREY12/23/2002

I am a teacher and years ago received this as a gift from a student. It has become MY fragrance, replacing Chanel #5. Everywhere I go people ask about it. When I am away from home my daughter keeps the scent under her pillow to keep me close. It seems to have the ability to combine beautifully with one's own individual scent to create a unique amalgam. My worst fear is that this will be discontinued.

  • MEGAN MARSTON12/07/2002

This fragrance is timeless and sexy. I wore it when I was sixteen and will probably start wearing it again in my 30s. This is what a successful woman smells like. Love this fragrance! Very sexy and confident!

  • JICKY12/07/2002

I have been wearing knowing for 6 years now and everytime I go out. i.e. store, work, gym, people comment on it. I had a man tell me once he could tell when I had been at the gym. When you get your own oils going and it mixes with the scent and smells even better. Clean smell. Its "my scent".

  • LUILU07/12/2002

I was shopping at the supermarket when I became aware of a beautiful fragrance worn by an elderly lady. I asked her what it was and she said "KNOWING" by Estee Lauder. Well, I thought I knew all about all of Estee's fragrances,,, I love Youth Dew and Cinnabar,,,bu this is a "floral chypre" not usually my type at all...I love those spicy orientals, but you know, this smells pretty darn good on me...good for days when I want to feel different! Way to go Estee!

  • CANDIE06/23/2002

I totally agree with who posted this tibit! Again I am in my early 20's and could never dream wearing this in my worst nightmere! All the power to you babes!

  • DANIELLA06/08/2002

My favorite perfume...complete strangers ask me what I'm wearing. Makes me feel feminine and confident.

  • NICOLE05/21/2002

I tried a lot of perfumes, just to be disappointed and not finishing the bottles. I remembered a colleague wearing Knowing a few years ago in my office. It is distinctive and has a lingering classy scent. I decided to buy a bottle. I'm so happy about it. I realized this is my kind of a scent. I wore Aromatic Elixir for four years and got tired of it. As Knowing is classified as a "floral/chypre" as well, I deducted I am for that kind of a fragrance.

  • SHARON04/27/2002

Since I started wearing Knowing seven years ago I have the best of compliments. Many people want to know what it is and where to get it. It is not an overwhelming scent. I want to thank you for this product.

  • OLGA04/09/2002

Really a very elegant fragrance. People began to know me by it. "Knowing" makes me feel great. Men become crazy when they smell it on me.

  • LAURA03/07/2002

This is one of the few florals that I love. It's strong and has personality while remaining soft and feminine; it's distinctive and doesn't have that awful sweetness that so many floral perfumes do. One of my best friends wore this to her wedding, and shortly after that, I had to buy a bottle. It's not something I have the occasion to wear very often, because I save it for romantic occasions, but I think it's the perfect perfume for such times.

  • MAGGIEMAE02/17/2002

I wore Knowing for 2 years when it first came out. I stopped wearing it when I lost a wonderful job cause it caused me too much pain to remember the people and boss I no longer was around. Fragrance does a lot of things to your mind and spirit.

  • SANDY01/29/2002

People chase me down in halls restaurants, grocery stores, just to ask me what I"m wearing!!!!

  • PATRICIA01/25/2002

    makes me feel beautyfull

  • AIMEE12/19/2001

Somewhat masculine; coffeecake; reminds me of mornings with the family and the smells of breakfast, coffee, and Dad. I smelled it on a friend years later: It was very pungent and balsamic.

  • TAMMY RUBIN11/30/2001

I discovered it a long time ago and I don't want to finish it. Is delicious & elegant

  • ARETHA11/28/2001

I love the way people notice me when I wear knowing..They always tell me that after I'm gone they can still smell me in their home for hours on end..I love Knowing. Thanks

  • SUSA11/23/2001

It'll always remind me of romantic city nights walking in Boston's Back Bay...outdoor cafes, bookstores, boutiques and limos...a very classy and memorable scent.

  • JOLENE11/03/2001

I've liked Knowing since it first came out. I was a teenager, and whenever I tried it on, I instantly felt like a sophisticated woman. I think it's a very feminine, sexy fragrance. Though I've never actually bought a bottle of Knowing (not sure why I haven't!?), I do like it a lot, and will be buying a bottle very soon.

  • ANGEL11/02/2001

KNOWING SMELLS SO GOOD AND GENTLE ON ME, PEOPLE RECOGNIZE ME BY THE SCENT AND THEY LOVE IT AND ALWAYS ASK WHAT IT IS.

  • H.10/31/2001

Okay at first, but gets better and better as the day goes on. Very pretty.

  • ANGELA10/27/2001

It is the scent of a midnight-blue sky, speckled with twinkling stars and a glowing golden moon. It is magic, it is night, it is a woman

  • JANE10/23/2001

To me I smell the original Men's scent Aramis mixed in this. Kind of like they took Aramis and added some flowers to it. It might be the woody/chypre thing. Any way its just not me, power to you girls who can pull it off.

  • JENNIFER10/19/2001

They're not exactly the same but there are similarities. It's a nice fragrance, but a little too woody/chypre for my taste.

  • LINDA T.09/28/2001

I could not be more pleased with a product than I am with Knowing. I have used this particular fragrance for over 10 years, and am still amazed at how many compliments I always seem to get. There is seldom a day that goes by that someone doesn't comment on how delightful I smell. Many friends, as well as strangers ask me what I am wearing. I used to shop around and try different brands, but not anymore! I have found a beautiful scent that stays with me all day and night, and apparently works wonders with my body chemistry. Layering the scents of the shower gel, the whipped body creme, the powder and a light touch of the cologne is all anyone could ask for. KNOWING IS THE BEST!!!!!

  • JEANNIE09/22/2001

Edith, I'm with you. It has to be on a better sale than that for me to buy it. With this discount, it is the same price as my department store...but why pay shipping to get it here instead?

  • EDITH07/04/2001

Like the messages that preceded mine regarding a discount on the fragrance Knowning. So, why is it that it is never discounted. Please advise

  • ME07/03/2001

Why isn't knowing discounted? Advertisement says up to 70% off over 200 products!!!

  • KATHY07/03/2001

    Why isn't this ever discounted?

  • EDIE06/24/2001

It's the best fragrance by Lauder....... I like Knowing a lot! It's a sexy, sophisticated fragrance. I like how it lingers. And it smells even better once it begins to wear off.

  • GERAL05/20/2001

I have worn this fragrance since it was first released. Back in 1989, I was going to a formal affair, and needed a fragrance as appropriate as my dress. I went to the perfume counter at a local store and inquired about a good perfume. The estee lauder rep. showed me the knowing. I was a little apprehensive about paying that price at that time for a perfume. She then explained that I did not need much to get the full effect and that it would last me the entire evening. I replied, will this be noticable? She said to me that if I bought it, and that if no one asked me that evening what fragrance I was wearing, that she would buy it back from me herself. That's just how sure she was about her product. I went to my affair that evening, and so many people would ask what perfume I was wearing, and commented that it really smelled good. They asked where did I get it, a few even asked how much it cost me. They all said they wanted to get some. I would even walk by some of the young men there and they would comment that I really smelled good. Those comments have not changed over the years. I am in the health care profession, and a lot of my patients will ask what I am wearing and comment that it smells good. I will in turn answer their question and then ask them if it is too much/overbearing, they all say no and that it is just perfect. I can walk onto an elevator and people will comment on how good it smells. I wear it everday and I only buy two bottles a year. So when I look at it that way, it is relatively inexpensive. I have been an avid Knowing wearer now for 13 years and am proud to say it is the only fragrance I wear. Thank you estee lauder for creating my fragrance.

  • ANGELA 04/18/2001

This scent is a reminder of what a female stood for..feminine, romantic and totally self-assured! A little strong - so spray lightly then walk-into it.. it is great!

  • CEO03/23/2001

As always Lauder products are very concentrated. This is strong but the dry-downs yield an unforgetable scent that is very powerful indeed! It is usual! This stuff last "all day long" without refreshing! I have only used the lotion and you would have swore I sprayed the perfume all over me!
