I used this many years ago and the format seems to have changed. I am disappointed but its too expensive and took so long to arrive that I will use it.

  • JULES08/22/2011

I used to wear this all the time in the early 80's I have not been able to get it in the UK for years. I bought it on-line recently and it smells mor like Miss Dior a bit fusty, my skin cannot have chaged that much. What a disappointment!

  • SHARON EVERTON02/13/2011

I have been wearing this perfume since 1985. Everytime I am near someone they just love the smell, and have to know what it is. It has a beautiful fragrance!

  • CHRISTINE07/07/2008

To me, this is the essence of what a french perfume is all about. Absolutely sophisticated, timeless.

  • SHEILA07/01/2008

This is one of the loveliest perfumes I have used. The nicest thing is that you can smell it yourself while wearing it. It is also the most difficult to find in the shops and I am so pleased I have found it on this site.

I have been buying Ivoire since .... the 80s? I can't remember, it's been so long, and if I could remember the misspoken name a boyfriend gave it I could remember how long I have worn it... This perfume, to me, is even more a classic French perfume. It is classy, sexy, alluring and I love it so much I surreptitiously sniff my wrists when I wear it. I don't know, or care what the notes are as long as Balmain never stops making it, and doesn't change the formula (Chanel did that to their original version of Christalle and really disappointed me). Originally Ivoire and Christalle were the only 2 perfumes I would wear. Chanel took the lemony sweetness out of Christalle and turned it into a more herbal eau de toilette (it had been more of a splash type fragrance with more water than alcohol). Back to Ivoire, I'm really happy to know that other people wear it and feel the same way about it. I have a hard time finding it, and luckily my husband works in NYC and finds it in a highend retailer.

I found in the stores today a new release by Pierre Balmain called "La Mome" inspired by a film starring Edith Piaf. It's a very nice floral oriental, a dark coloured liquid in a sophisticated classic rectangular bottle. Very French of course. I sprayed it on a card but next time will try it on my skin.

  • SYLVIE06/15/2007

Hi Sue C, I have a bottle Eau d'Ivoire in my collection. The colour of the packaging/box is cream/white. It's not similar to the classic Ivoire! Not so sharp and green!! Eau d'Ivoire is a hard to find (discontinued?)fragrance. A very light, modern, "transparent" fruity-floral Chypre fragrance with complexity. A beautiful balanced scent. Pleasant, uncomplicated, feminine, and elegant at the same time. Perfume description by osmoz: "After the citrus notes of bergamot and mandarin, the freesia boasts its green leaf notes. The extremely feminine wild rose mingles with pink berries to spice up the top note. Then comes the sweet and tender heart note featuring a bouquet of wisteria and lily of the valley. Ylang Ylang and jasmine bring femininity and mingle with raspberry. The end note is tender like a caress. The strong amber note featured in Ivoire has been replaced by a woody and earthy note of vetiver, the slightly dry scent of cedarwood, musk to give warmth, oakmoss for added freshness and mouth-watering vanilla for roundness. Top note : Mandarin, Freesia, Wild Rose, Pink Berries. Middle note : Wisteria, Lily of the Valley, Ylang ylang, Raspberry. Base note : Vetiver, Cedarwood, Musk, Vanilla." - Hope this helps. Happy hunting and greetings from Germany, Sylvie.

  • IVOIRE06/07/2007

ingenious! Sybolizes a noble, soft an calm "landed gentry" lady (wearing pearls as well as leather) who has a very strong, self-assured character with a hidden passionate sexuality. I think it's because of the ingenious combination of the green note galbanum (which I normally dislike as too harsh), the fresh-flowery rose and soft, but not too dry woody note. The best way ever galbanum was used

  • SCENTMANIAC06/05/2007

Ivoire is one most exciting scents ever - just were I looked for. The harsh green-galbanum, which >i don't really like, is very decent an melts ingeneously with the light, tender-feminin and ladylike rose. And both lies over a warm, gentle and calming, may be woody base. Too me, it expresses perfectly a misterous, self-assured woman: on first glance clam, but strong - with an irritating underlying sexuality and passion Normally, I don't like these green-galbanum-typical eighties scents: too dry, heavy and strong.

  • SUE C01/02/2007

Does anyone have Eau D'Ivoire? It has a similar bottle to Ivoire but the lid is silver. I was wondering if it is similar to Ivoire only lighter.

  • APRILMAX12/20/2006

Ivorie is very pretty. It's clean and fresh, a touch soapy, with just a tiny hint of something creamy in the background. It is very sophisticated. I didn't smell any "old lady" like some have mentioned (e.g. Youth Dew, Magie Noire, etc.). But it is definitely not cutesy or young, it is for a grown up lady (at least in attitude, maybe not in age). Worth a try!

  • KATHY11/28/2006

I bought this for a nice 'clean green' scent, but am disappointed with it. At first spray it smells clean and green, but in awhile after the drydown it smells tooo strong and sort of like incense to me.

  • SEXY KITTEN11/05/2006

I used to wear this and loved the scent...but it induced some mild nausea for me...a real shame because it is so unique

  • JESSICA07/19/2006

I remember when both came out. Ebene was not a men's fragrance. It was a much heavier, sexier muskier scent, the sensual opposite of Ivoire. Although I will say I have been wearing Ivoire right since it came out I think it was 1978 in fact and I adore it and think it is very sexy

  • PNP11/29/2005

I have been wearing Ivoire for almost 20 years and I never tire of it. It is a very soft but not sweet like many other perfumes on me. I only wish I could find it without having to order it or find it at a few of the outlet stores

  • DANIEL10/25/2005

the perfect fragrance, very sophisticated, this is for the real ladys, in one word FANTASTIC!!

  • MIKE09/17/2005

The only woman's fragrance I've come across that projects the image of a lady with style and sex appeal. It's the only fragrance I can immediately pick up in a crowded room, even when worn most subtly.

  • MBE07/09/2005

This is my signature fragrance--I never tire of it! It's such a complex fragrance, so many notes to appreciate--a real symphony of fragrance.

  • PATRICIA06/29/2005

I love this fragrance ! I was amazed to learn that Balmain introduced it in 1980. It has a very sophisticated smell and reminds me of what a very fashionable woman would wear in the 40's. I picture a very stylish woman on 5th Avenue in New York strolling along the avenue in her hat and high heels wearing this fragrance . It is very different than so many of the new ones that all smell the same ! It does smell like Ivory !!! It's wonderful !

  • KATHY Z.03/31/2005

I love Ivoire. A very sophisticated green scent. Nothing else quite like it. Very different from the new perfumes of today. Kind of nostalgic. Perfect for spring.

  • M10/09/2004

Ivorie is one of my absolute favorites. Reminds me of France, strolling around in Paris....

  • CK10/08/2004

This is a 100% agreement with you! I had purchased the set with the body lotion. I liked the lotion better, because you could smell the notes (to me). The body lotion is creamy and kind of luxurious. The edt. is well, good but as you said you don't know whether you like it or not. Try the body lotion! It's a green fragrance!

  • CINDIE09/12/2004

I have a bottle of this and I am still trying to decide if I like it or not.

  • PUTZSON04/15/2004

Every time I wear this perfume, I get compliments. I have been wearing Evoire since the early 80's. It's one of my favorites.

  • CODEBLUE04/10/2004

This is not a light, understated floral. Quite the contrary, but the notes all fall into place like a garden where the pastel flowers blend in beautifully with the vivid reds, blues and yellows. Perfect for day or evening, any season - although to me it shouts "Spring!" It's lusty and laughing, casual or dressy, and the drydown is well worth the wait.

  • MADAME RIFFA01/17/2004

Naomagic by Naomi Campbell, would be well worth trying for you.I just bought it.Your description matches the fragrance for me.Read the comments on it.

  • CJ12/10/2003

Creamy, silky, luscious scent---BUT maybe for the over 25. I always get compliments on its clean fragrance, but it lacks the astringent qualities so popular today.

  • VANILLALION06/11/2003

This is how my 22 yr old son described this fragrance when I tested it last night. Not for my chemistry obviously. But for those who love it-I am putting this on ebay and getting rid of it after one spray! :)

  • PETRA05/11/2003

I'm looking for a scent like Ivoire but lighter and easier to wear. I have to put tiny dabs on my wrists otherwise I am overwhelmed by the heaviness. I am looking for a green, soft scent with class. I don't care for fruity, overly sweet scents. I like the dry down and the powdery scent of Ivoire but find it too hard to wear especially in warm weather. There is a specific note (maybe the carnation) that I really don't care for. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • JULIE 05/10/2003

    VERY SOFT AND SOPHISTICATED

  • GUERLAINIA03/23/2003

I wore this for a while, but I quickly tired of it. There's something "off" about it. It's a bit chemically. And, although it's green, it's too heavy for warm weather wear.

  • DOLCEVTA703/12/2003

Creamy, elegant Ivoire is a green that goes from night to day. Good for traveling too. BUT It wears best on those of us over 25.

  • OLATZ02/03/2003

All I can say is: classy, classy, classy. I only wish it were more widely available.

  • CKG12/12/2002

Wonderful, I get loads of compliments when I wear it. I do wear it year 'round and day and night. It is terrific.

  • NINA10/13/2002

There is a male fragrance by Pierre Balmain called Ébène, which is quite obviously the male counterpart to Ivoire. It is pretty hard to get, though, a classic men's fragrance, with notes of herbs like sage and mint, combined with wood and spices. Lovely, and the do go together well.

  • AUNTGOOEY08/10/2002

Top notes of galbanum, bergamot, lemon and green accord. Heart notes of hyacinth, jasmine, geranium, orris, carnation, jonquild and orchid. Base notes of raspberry, oakmoss, sandalwood, amber and vetiver. Goes on sharp, smell very green and grassy. Dries down powdery. Not for you if you're a fan of very floral or sweet fragrances. Long lasting which is surprising because it doesn't go on heavy. Perfect for summer, but I wear it year round. It is said the name Ivoire was inspired by a beautiful mystery woman at a gala attended by Balmain, and she was dressed in a creamy pale silk gown.

  • STEPHANIE07/18/2002

I was very impressed with this fragrance. Nice floral, green but not too green. Great for daytime or at work.

  • RITA07/11/2002

Love this fragrance. Beautiful, green and spicy floral. I find myself always wanting a bottle on hand from year to year.

  • ASCHATAN03/05/2002

I am in two minds about this one - it's very nice and classy and smells like a whole garden full of flowers. But there is something sweaty in it, like maybe the gardener hiding behind the rosebush having an nap?

  • H.05/31/2001

    Very pretty scent!

  • EILEEN03/30/2001

This is a green, dry, elegant scent. It also blends well with Fendi and Ma Griffe.

  • GREENS03/23/2001

This fragrance did not sit well wwith me right away! As its dry-down occured it was great. The parfumed body lotion is strong enough to wear alone without layering!

  • DEB11/21/2000

This is a pleasing, light floral fragrance; but nothing out of the ordinary. I thought it was too "perfumey".
