Actually, the plural name "Fleurs" was the original 1930s formulation. It was changed in the 1990s to Fleur and became rather a different scent altogether. There are several articles online addressing these perfumes; just type in Caron perfumes or the name of the one you are interested in. But there has been confusion regarding them both. One can find vintage bottles on ebay and other sites where you can see the name printed on it.

  • DEBBY01/18/2011

There were two perfumes. I loved them both, my stepmother always loved the nonplural... a very rosey scent... the plural came out around 1993... I totally associate it with being pregnant with my son. Neither of these are available anywhere I can find, in Canada. the Bay department store used to exclusively carry them all. I'm tempted to order online, but with some comments I'm not sure if the perfume has changed, or if some are not aware that there were two perfumes with VERY similar names.

  • LINDA LOUIS12/14/2010

I wore it into the 1990s.Then received a gift of the reformulation. It just does not do it for me! PLEASE bring back the original!

  • JULIE03/20/2008

I bought this fragrence for my mother in the 80's and she loved it so much that I replenished it whenever necessary. The new one certainly does not have the class as the old one and I fear that I may not be able to find it again. I see that this Emporium doesn't sell it. Does anyone know who does?

  • IRIS10/26/2007

I am sorry, you are not right about the year of its creation: in fact it was created in 1933, and since than, at least twice re- orchestrated! I find it sophisticated and not so fresh, sooner it is floral- oriental!

  • NYRICAN4T02/21/2007

I was wearing the original formula back in the eighties. I found this new one in the nineties and do ador it although I still miss the original formula that I found in an old style apothecary in the East 80's in NYC.

  • WADERWINGS09/28/2006

I was introduced to this fragrance by my mother when it first came out in 1993. I have held all other fragrances to its standard and have not found one yet that can come close to it. It is a very rich, sensual, sexy fragrance that evokes these same feelings while wearing it. When I want to feel beautiful I always wear my Fleur de Rocaille!

  • FAIRLIND06/03/2006

The original Fleurs has a very heavy, basswood-honey type of smell on me. The new version, Fleur, is a lovely light floral, perfect for the summer.

  • POMPEIA02/14/2006

a very refined bouquet of white flowers which includes rose, jasmine, violet, gardenia, orris and musk. This is an original fragrance I just can't get enough of.

  • JANICE08/13/2005

The original scent (spelled with the "s') is available, of all places, from the Vermont Country Store. I bought it on a whim just by their description, and I love it. I've never tried the new formulation.

  • LAVINIA07/19/2005

I like this one a lot. It's a nice floral with good staying power. I smell roses, gardenia, and maybe a touch of fruit. Can't comment on the original, though it sounds completely different from the modern version. If you like florals, you might like this one.

  • STEPHANIE07/07/2005

very disappointed in both fragrances, original is very mossy, nasty and the other is boring, I'll stick with "bvlgari pour femme"

  • FABRICIO06/23/2005

The original version may be better. I haven't had the chance to smell it...however I don't understand how people can say the new one is awful. I like it and it's neither too sweet nor too flowery nor to be considered a bad scent...I totally disagree with that...Think twice, folks...

  • LOUISE06/23/2005

The newer version, Fleur, reminds me a lot of Fred Hayman's 273, only without the heavy peach Jell-o note. I really like the newer formula. The original formula didn't work on me at all. Reminded me of leaf mold, or something strange like that. The older, original formula gets raves from some, rants from others. All depends on your taste. The newer Fleur is more floral, the original Fleurs is more woodsy and green.

  • STEPHANIE06/09/2005

What fragrances is this comparable to in notes? Would it be soft or more what one would consider a classic stronger scent? I t's very hard to describe a scent, but might be easier if one knew a few similar ones> thanks

  • STEPHANIE06/07/2005

I am intrigued by the comments as to two different perfumes by caron. I would love to purchase samples of this fragrance, but can't seem to find them. Would anyone care to offer a cotton ball sample? Or perhaps have a mini bottle for sale of the original and the new version? thanks

  • LOUISE03/29/2005

I recently recvd a dram of the original Fleurs de Rocaille. Talk about disappointed. There are quite a few classic scents from Caron that are very appealing to me, so I was sure that the original FdR would be great since it's alsoo one of Caron's classics. Well, I was quite surprised at how strange the top notes and even the dry down seemed. Can't identify what note it is, but it's very unusual and not exactly appealing to me. In some ways FdR, the original, reminds me of Ferre by Ferre, only the latter is much nicer, if not strange at first itself. I've given the original FdR quite a few chances and just can't get into it. However, I'm not rating it since this is really for the modern version of FdR and since I haven't tried that one yet. Any idea on what note I'm smelling that seems strange?

  • ZANNA06/11/2004

    Apparently Beyonce Knowles favourite!

  • MARLENA04/01/2004

The original version of Fleurs de Rocaille by Caron is a lovely, sweet green floral. It makes me feel like I've just wandered barefoot through an enchanted garden after a misty rain. The horrible modernized version called Fleur de Rocaille (no 's' on the end of Fleur) smells like a car freshener! Always insist on the original version! It is delicate, delightful and suitable for daytime wear. You will be wearing perfume history--it was invented in 1933, I believe. Never have I found anyone who feels the scent is objectionable, but then I don't slather myself with fragrance from head to toe either. People whose fragrance can be detected from across the room are boors. That's like blowing cigar smoke deliberately in others' faces. Perfume should only be detectable to oneself or one's lover. I'll also include those giving one a hug.

I posted about the original fleurs de rocaille a couple of weeks ago when I first purchased it. At the time I liked it a lot, then one night I sprayed it in my bedroom and my husband walked in and asked me "what is that awful smell?" Now I am not sure if I like it myself or will ever wear it again. Pity, I liked at first.

  • CHARLENE07/14/2003

I agree, the original had a distinctly special scent. Every time I wore it people would ask me about it. Bring back the old fragrance, perfume fragrances should not change, they should be retired.

  • NAKEDCITY06/13/2003

I totally agree that the new revamped version doesn't compare. I gave a try to Jardins de Bagatelle by Guerlain and think that is a good substitute to my beloved Rocaille.

  • VICKI05/28/2003

I don't like the new Fleur de Rocaille at all. The old Fleurs de Rocaille was such a distinctive fragrance -- truly gorgeous. The new Fleur de Rocaille is all sweetness -- no bite like the original. That was what I loved about the original Caron fragrance. It had the sweetness of flowers but had a certain wildness underneath that set it apart from other floral fragrances. Please bring back the original and dump the reformulation.

  • CHERYL03/29/2003

for whatever it's worth, this fragrance has absolutely enchanted and pleased everyone who has been aware of it when i wear it, and i love to smell it on my clothes!

  • BETH02/28/2003

I just bought this untried, because I thought the description sounded good, and I was right. It is just gorgeous, all my favorite smells in one- jasmine, lily of the valley, tuberose and rose. A lovely summery scent; just like walking through a garden. I love it, and hope this site will introduce more products in this scent.

  • PARFUMOLIQUE01/06/2003

Fleurs de rocailles is a boring floral with top notes of tuberoses.

  • J.LOBATO11/25/2002

The real "Scent of a woman"

  • ANN10/23/2002

Why did they re-vamp this long time favorite? Is the "s" version available anywhere? I miss it so!! The original version is wonderful, excellent!!

  • MGARIS06/05/2002

This is my all time, favorite. It's the one Al Pacino mentions, at the end of 'Scent of a Woman.' I prefer the old version, very hard now, to find . . . more effervescent than the newer offering. An anytime, anyplace, any age scent . . . always perfect.

  • CARLA04/01/2002

    Too sweet for me.

  • MARTHA03/26/2002

Love this perfume. It is so elegant and ladylike. I wish I knew the flowers put in this perfume. Anyway, it's a great scent.

  • THOM11/23/2001

I've found one version with an "s" on the end of the name: Fleurs de Rocaille. The bottle and box are different. The Fleur (no "s" on the end) de Rocaille, I understand is a contemporary version, released in 1993, of the 1933 original.

  • CHRIS11/08/2001

This is not the original scent that Caron used to put out. A few years ago you could not get it...discontinued. They then came out with it again and changed the formula! Very disappointing. Even the color of the perfume is different, and the scent it heavier. What a shame!

  • TATIANA03/27/2001

Very light (I use EDT) spring/summer scent. Lovely soft floral. Sometimes I can smell honey in it.

  • PHYLLIS BETHUNE03/22/2001

have used this fragrence, and liked it although was a litt;e to sweet for me. My mother loved this fragrance
