Sickly, sweet and cloying. Fine if you like smelling of confectionary...pass.

  • IRFAN07/08/2009

This is definitely a chic magnet! It does seem to be attracting attention from ladies who i meet or have walked pass me. And even some guys aldo did asked me about the cologne as they say it's smells different from all other colognes. Thumbs up to xeryus rouge!

  • FOR J.RIV01/22/2009

Yes!! This is one of the sexiest men's fragrances I've ever smelled. You are right - it is sweet without any vanilla, which makes it more masculine than other sweet scents. The sandalwood and musk in the drydown are amazing. It is very strong, and not office appropriate, so save it for seduction purposes. Every man should have a bottle of this stuff...

  • LUCK04/09/2008

To me... this remains as a cologne that I wear only from time to time. It is a very nice fragrance, but in my personal opinion, is nothing spectacular. Worth a purchase though.

  • FRED04/03/2008

Along with Arpege Pour Homme, Xeryus is the most intoxicating fragrance i've ever worn, of course, in a pleasant way. Applied carefully, it can be a daytime wear, and absolutely a thing a nice out. Walk by girls and let them intrigued, because it's very sexy. Once, when i were in the supermarket, i noticed a nice girl walking behind me most of the time. More amazingly, she followed me even when I changed the cashier aisle. Maybe because of XR, a masterpiece of Givenchy! You will have a lifetime customer, it's me!

  • ALEX04/03/2008

Xeryus Rouge is the best cologne I have ever used. I used to buy a lot of colognes but haven't realized this is the best. The packaging is perfect, but what make its value is it's intoxicating smell. There no not enough words to describe Xeryus Rouge because it's not simply a cologne. Love it!

  • BARBARA W02/10/2008

Oh definitely! This is a VERY sexy scent - one of my all time favorite on men. It has aphrodisiac qualities. It is my favorite of the ones you have mentioned. Two others that make me weak in the knees: Arpege pour homme and Burberry London.

  • J.RIV11/10/2007

I some how got my hands on a small sample for 15 bucks... And this is a GREAT fragrance. As I posted on the Le Male board. Very very loud if I do say so myself. Even as loud as Minotaure was, but I guess that is more of a POWERFUL smell than sweet. Minotaure is rather funky due to the initial spray with OJ and Vanilla. At least to me, same with Pi. But both of them are in my top 5 oriental scents. They are the greatest, but XR seems to be on a different type of genre of sweetness. No vanilla notes makes it very interesting. But would you consider this a SEXY scent Barbara? And if so which would you choose between John Varvatos, Desire (Red liquid) and Xeryus Rouge? Thanks in advance!

  • BARBARA W11/01/2007

Hi there, Jay, nice to "meet" you! You have an amazing nose for such a young age - that's fantastic! I know what you mean about wanting to find a great fragrance. When I was in high school, I was wearing Coco by Chanel when everyone else was wearing Jovan Musk or something like that! lol Welcome to fragrance addiction. ;-) I'll try to answer your questions as best I can. The first one - what does this smell like? Rouge reminds me of a grownup, sexier version of Dunhill's Desire. It is VERY distinctive and well balanced - not too sweet or sharp, just right. Slighty fruity topnotes, then it gets more spicy and the wood notes emerge on the drydown. It is very seductive. You will definitely not smell like everyone else if you wear this as it is fairly unknown. Not sure where you could test it, though. I found it at a very high end fragrance store. You might be able to find a mini if you search the internet. This is truly a magnificent scent and will set you apart from everyone else, but I would reserve this for the evening - it's not a daytime scent. Here are some of my favorite mainstream fragrances for men: the new Burberry London, most of the Bvlgari line (pour homme, Extreme, Blv, and Soir), Arpege pour homme by Lanvin (very sexy!), Hypnose by Lancome, Ambre by Baldessarini (very nice sweet/smoky/amber/rum notes), L'eau D'Issey *Bleue* and Bleue Eau Fraiche, Red Delicious by Donna Karan, M7 by Yves Saint Laurent, Gucci pour homme, Eau Sauvage by Dior. Some of these are light and fresh, others rich and sensual. There are many more, but I can't remember them right now...I'll post again when I'm more awake! ;-) Anyway, best of luck with your search for a signature scent. Xeryus Rouge will certainly put you on the map! Let me know what you think of it. I look forward to reading your posts. Take care! ~Barbara

Well of course I'd be happy to suggest some other colognes. I'll go through a few. If you like fresh musky type scents I'd recommend 212 Men. A great anytime scent that I like as of late is YSL's L'homme. Very citriusy and great tones of ambers and wood. Truly excellent. Leau D'Issey by Issey Miyake is something that I really had a hard time with lol but it is loved by many. It is a very floural scent and while it is not really aquatic it has a very cool quality to it. Yet it is almost salty with hints of lavender (or at least what my nose tells me). Another scent by Givenchy that sparked my intrest was Very Irresistable. It smells of mocha and chocolate and is truly a pleasing smell. Unlike Thierry Mugglers Angel Amen which is totally dependent on your mood whether you'll tolerate it or not due to its cloying sweetness. If you like the whole Mocha coffee thing I'd definetly peep Attitude pour homme by Armani. It is a more sophisticated type of coffee smell with hints of lavender and musk. I liked it. lol. Then I'd suggest a few woodsy colognes, Pi which is an all time favorite of mine sweet almost feminine some say. Kenneth Coles Signature is VERY woodsy infact to my nose straight out of the bottle smells like someone has been cutting cedar. But is really pleasant. Then Vera Wang by Vera Wang. This is something that no woman really doesn't love. It is woodsy but still smooth, a more refined and masculine version of Pi. It has notes of Tabacco and from what I smelled leather and vanilla. If all those fragrances fail... try Curve...lol I hope I helped. Love, peace and hair grease!!

  • J.RIV10/03/2007

Hey there, we haven't met yet. But I am Jay. I saw your post on the Le Male forum about this cologne and I wanted to ask you a few things if you dont mind. The first would be what does this smell like exactly? I read a lot of your reviews and out of all the primary people who post your reviews reflect the closest to my nose as well as Mario Justiani. The second is where would I find this fragrance? I do not remember coming across this when I bought Pi 2 weeks or so earlier at a Macys. The third would be probably the most important to me. Do you believe this cologne to be commonly worn? I have been looking for a signature, unique and remarkable scent. I have been trying to look for colognes with specific notes that are compatible with my personality... I fail every damn time too. I am terribly picky when choosing fragrances I wear. Even now as a teenager I hate mainstream scents. I rotate 212 men, Boss no.6, Pi and Lacoste Pour Homme regularly, with inbetween days with Escada Sunset heat, Lacoste Essential, and recently I've worn Claibourne Sport which I like now (again lol) for some reason. But I would like a single scent... Help my poor soul before I have no more room on my dresser for pictures of my girlfriends...Thanks in advance ; )

  • JIXJAX07/28/2007

This one blows me away. Thankfully, the woman I am seeing found this to be quite appealing too. Resembles Ungaro III but I like this more. Can someone suggest something else for me? I also like Carlos Santana, Relax, and Escada. Love and peace.

  • LAWYER GIRL07/28/2007

A colleague of mine wore this at an office party the other night. I had never really noticed him before, but all of a sudden I found myself wanting him! First time a cologne has had that effect on me. This stuff is an aphrodisiac. By the way, we're going out next week. If he wears this stuff, I'm toast! LOL

  • JULIETTE07/28/2007

Makes even a plain looking man irresistable. Strictly an evening scent. Put on some black clothes and wear this with confidence. Women WILL notice.

  • THEO07/15/2007

Rich, seductive and long lasting. This is my personal love potion. It is not as popular as many, and richer than its original. Kumquat and cactus surprizes and thrills! Think red. Dark, smokey and mysterious, this is worthy in the single mans collection. He wont be for long!

  • BLACKAMBERMOON03/02/2007

...this is an aphrodisiac. Another one with a similar effect is Arpege pour homme. If you do NOT bathe yourself in these two (one spray, please!), they are two of the sexiest men's fragrances on the market today.

  • RICHARD02/11/2007

I happened upon this stuff one day at lunch break as a tester. Went back to the office, and held everyones attention at a meeting. No one fell asleep! The next day, I picked up a bottle and used it ever since. Promotions followed.

  • VAL01/24/2007

I have this cologne for about 7 yrs now, and it`s the same bottle that I bought back then. Well this cologne is like nothing else out there-sexy, elegant, charming, hypnotizing, arousing,...that`s how many impressions it makes, so I didn`t use it all the time, maybe because you have to be a very special type of person to be a complete match. Not many here in reviews say about having to match in personality, although I beleive it`s the first criterium when choosing a cologne. Anyway this cologne is a heaven and must have if you think you are masculine, bold, daring,...have good taste and have nothing against beautiful women attacking you:-))) Cheers! [email protected]

  • JASON1312/19/2006

Designed to be a complete attention getter!! One of the strongest fragrances I've ever smelled so be conservative with it. One spray will suffice or otherwise you will leave a trail! It's so strong I can't really give a fair rating!!

  • MARIO JUSTINIANI10/19/2006

It is not true that you have to be in your early 20'a and go clubbing to wear this scent. Being nuts at any age will suffice. It's about as sweet as a scent can get without being powdery, sugary, feminine, or--worst of all , vanillic (see Joop, Cristobal, etc, etc, etc) The idea of cactus-sweet is mad genius at its finest. This one is an upbeat and bizarre joke, like Quasar, and you should really sample before buying-but if the damsels drool, why argue?

  • ENGINEER09/10/2006

This cologne goes on strong but drys down extremely well. I cannot deal with a strong scent, so guys take it from the feedback I've received from women. "It makes me want you extremely bad!" Enuff said.

  • TAJSMELLSGOOD07/22/2006

Although I was a rookie in the smell game, this was the first fragrance that struck me as powerful...different.To my novice sniffer, it was all that. I didnt buy it that day because of my tight budget.Being close to X-mas and having about 5 bullcrap bottles of cologne, I told myself I would get it later.By the time I finally bought it(months later),it didnt smell the same.I has purchased it, so of course I wanted to like it.Not to say it was bad, it was alot spicier and not as fruitier. On a good note, this is the longest fragrance Ive encountered to date. The spices seem to give it is longevity. This is classified as an oriental. When it settles down , hours later, it is sweeter and I see some similarities to Desire. They are in totally different stages when this occurs. This is one of those borderline fragrances as far as Im concerned. At the moment, Im feeling it a bit more.Ill give it a rating of good.

  • SAMI06/09/2006

all these years i spent time & money on various scents.. why did not i try this before? silly me.. excellent but still, a very weird bottle though

  • CEDA11/29/2005

WHEN I MET MY LOVE HE WAS WEARING THIS COLOGNE AND WE BOTH DECIDED THAT THIS WOULD BE HIS SIGNATURE. THAT WAS 8 YEARS AGO, AND I STILL LOVE TO SNUGGLE AGAINST HIM JUST TO GET A WHIFF...MMMMM

  • *BARBARA W*11/23/2005

I really love this...sexy and masculine without being in your face. I don't like the original in the black bottle at all. They're VERY different. Guys, give this a try - I'm sure lots of women will love it.

  • PAULO08/27/2005

I've always been a Xeryus (black) fan and was very disappointed to find out that Xeryus Rouge is much inferior to it. Why give it the name Xeryus at all, since there is such a big difference between the two of them? Don't like the scent and felt cheated. It will never replace Xeryus ("noir") and may even make Givenchy lose clients. Wouldn't say "Horrible", but still bad enough.

  • JUDE08/08/2005

This stuff is the real deal. It sort of smells like Diesel Milk, but better. Very manly, very unique. A very sweet scent. I have been all over this site reviewing colognes, and this stuff is very very solid stufff. The dry down is amazing, very long lasting cologne. Up there with Ungaro III, Antaeus Chanel, Body Kouros, Mambo, Joop. Those are the best out of 50 or so I have sampled, Rouge is better than plain Xeryus. Take my word for it- you will not regret acquiring this stuff, amazingly masculine.

  • WAYNE06/18/2005

Wow, came accross this totally by mistake and absolutely love this fragrance. Have had LOADS of comments when wearing this. This is one that will last most of the day.

  • MARCO TESTAVERDE06/12/2005

Right next to Pi, this is probably the next best from Givenchy. The women love this on me and the awesome thing is that it's not all that commonly used like that Curve stuff and Cool Water which ain't bad but way overplayed, not to mention this stuff is more for sensual use than regular casual use like those two anyways. 5*'s BABY!!

  • TAJSMELLSGOOD04/04/2005

It seems that the more fragrances I smell the more my tastes evolve.I dont like this one as much as I used to. When I first purchased it,it smelled more friuty. Now, I just smell overbearing spices. There is suppossed to be 'green' notes, which I love.I cant detect them.I will give this five stars for longevity.I dont have one of those great body chemistries, but this one lasts on me.I only wear this one to work, a non-office environment with no women.Oh, I love Desire and the only similarities I see are the red bottles.

  • SOME BLOKE IN ENGLAND04/02/2005

Hey, no worries. It was a combination of all the reviews that made me buy it and to be honest ive decided to last out the bottle. Using just one spray it certainly works OK in some situations. Ive since come across the new Joop Jump which seems like an imitation of Xeryus Rouge but not quite as good so i would probably promote my rating to a 3 star.

  • XERYUS MAN03/27/2005

sorry if anything i wrote influenced you. I didnt like xeryus at first and was going to try to return it, but it changed my mind. Give it to someone who finds it amazing--that will be e a s y!

  • SOME BLOKE IN ENGLAND03/06/2005

It has dawned on me that cologne reviews arent really worth the pixels they're printed on. Ive been searching for that special scent for ages and thought this might be the one after reading some of the reviews but sadly it wasnt to be. I found this fragrance way too heady and imagine it to be something my Grandmother might wear. I did notice some mildly pleasant notes much later in the day but the initial experience had already deterred me from ever using it again. But as they say, one mans cup of tea is another mans poison. Every available cologne appears to get a rave review declaring it the next classic with amazing powers on the opposite sex while the next person likens it to horse manure. Conclusion : always try thoroughly before buying.

  • XERYUS MAN02/15/2005

This cologne is in a classic bottle, which contains a potion that dries into a mysterious dreamlike fragrance that slowly overtakes you with a mysterious veil. The mystery is the wonder of the potion and what it contains and can do as it slowly works its wonders and unlocks its mysteries. Thats hard to get from any cologne orr product but i get this only from Xeryus Rouge and Dior's Farenheit, and Somewhat from Bulgari BLV. Sorry i wrote so much. at first i didnt like any of these three, great colognes.

  • ALISON12/21/2004

OH MY GOODNESS....MY MALE FRIEND WEARS THIS ALL THE TIME AND WHEN I AM NEAR HIM, I WANT TO JUMP HIS BONES. ME AND MY COWORKER DECIDED TO GET A BOTTLE FOR EACH OF OUR TWO BOSSES IN HOPES THAT THEIR WIVES WILL FEEL THE SAME WAY. HINT HINT!! I LOVE THIS COLOGN AND AM CONSIDERING IT FOR MY HUBBY ALSO.

  • OSAGUY12/09/2004

WARNING: Do not buy this if you have a trigger happy finger. Just a little bit will last you well into the next day and try not to get any on your cloths. This is definitely one the the strongest cologns you can lay your paws on. It's getting increasingly hard to find so pick one up if you get te chance. Definitely for nights out. This baby sits up there with Dolce & Gabbana and speaks nothing but class. It's simply the BEST!!!

  • MIRA09/14/2004

When i first smelled it on my boyfriend I could have fainted with pleasure. i still think it's great though we broke up:)

  • R.J.07/14/2004

THIS REALLY ADDS SPICE TO YOUR LOVE LIFE IN NO TIME. ANOTHER WINNER BY GIVENCHY.

  • JASMIN04/26/2004

very very sexy! i love it! i bought it for my husband for our wedding anniversary. i wanted to get him something that was very masculine and something that fits his personality, and as something that i like. go for it guy's! i also bouhgt him a 2nd male fragrance by jean paul gaultier "le male". that one is also very sexy! makes you wannna run to the sin bin. he he he :)

  • XERYUS ROUGE FAN02/22/2004

    One of the best.

  • W.B.12/02/2003

FELLAS: IT'S SOMETHING YOU WANT TO TAKE OUT OF TOWN WITH YOU. TRUST ME, THE LADIES WILL GREET YOU AT FIRST WHIFF AND YOU HAVE TO BEAT THEM OFF WITH A STICK(YOU WOULDN'T WANT TO THOUGH.....).

  • KEV06/26/2003

It's really strong and distinctive, hard to miss. Most people like it when I spray a little, too much and I get a headache. It's nice though, not for little boys!

  • CONNOISSEUR05/31/2003

Xeryus Rouge is a blend of sweet and spice that is simply one of the best out there. I find that the sweet part smells very fruity. I like it more than Pi which smells very vanilla, almost too much so in my opinion. BOTTOM LINE, women swoon over Xeryus Rouge, believe me. It is definitely one of the best evening fragrances I've ever had the privilege to wear. Get it! And if you want some other sweet (some more than others) scents that women seem to find sexy here's a short list...Darkness (Geparlys), Carven Homme, Mick Micheyl, Claiborne (very underrated), Rochas Man, Presence (Mont Blanc) & Desire.

  • ONE & ONLY WOMAN PLEASER02/02/2003

Use only 1 (one, uno) spray of it, and you'll be just fine, he he :)

  • STEVE AUSTIN01/30/2003

Can I get a HELL NO?

  • BOB12/19/2002

Can't say this one rules. It's okay but Pi is much much better overall.

  • BOB12/16/2002

if you don't like xeryus rouge, try the black.there's a world of difference!

  • LEE11/07/2002

this scnet is too much it gives me a headache.

  • HAL11/07/2002

    yucky gross rotten

  • PHIL11/01/2002

this is one of my top ten for sure! I laugh at how xeryus is suppose to be so erotic...what a joke! Get the rouge and panties will fly!

  • LOLA10/21/2002

I went to a store and decided to compare both. I like Pi better. X.R is quite nice, but a bit more harsh than Pi.They are both clearly orientals, similar in many ways, but where X.R is a spicier, drier blend, Pi is rounder, fuller and (I think) more balanced. The very slight hint of bitterness that I detected in X.R is not to be found in Pi. Pi is softer, yet deeper and longer lasting than X.R,and absolutely, indeniably muskier.

  • ZEUS10/17/2002

Big R, Yes I do like it as well as the one's you listed. But I put it in the same category as Le'Male because it came come off similarly on certain people. Lapidus, Bijan and Hollywood are all different from each other. Another fragrance that is similar to Rouge and Gaultier is Givenchy Pi although a bit lighter.

  • THE BIG R10/08/2002

Dude, i've always enjoyed your posts in the past.....i agree with you 'bout the Rouge.....it's something else....just curious, do you like this one better than others you mentioned like Lapidus, Le Male, Bijan & Hollywood?

  • JON09/26/2002

not necessarily in a bad qay, though. It's a sweet, spicy fragrance, very attention-getting and aphrodiasical. Don't wear it to work, unless you work at a bar, but definitely the thing for a night out.

  • ZEUS09/20/2002

I am now seeing this girl who I met a month ago and she approached me because of my cologne. You guessed it Xeryus Rouge, she has since bought it to spray on her pillow, and when I wear it she goes bonkers. it is kind of like catnip for women.

  • JOSH09/13/2002

This is another winner from Givenchy. It's just as unusual as PI, but in its own way. This is a rich, warm, fresh scent that lasts and is a guaranteed winner. Try it...you'll love it, if you like unique and classy fragrances. Josh

  • SKIP08/27/2002

    It rules, man !

  • CLAYTON08/05/2002

I used to wear Adolfo, can't remember who made it. I didn't like anything until I found Xeryus Rouge! It's fab!

  • [SPEED]HIRO08/03/2002

I just got this perfume yesterday and Im loving it!! It's got very smooth and sweet scent but yet strong. I would recommend this product to anyone who loves sweet scent.

  • CAROLINA07/28/2002

This fragance is incredible... and not for every men: not romantic or sensual but very sexual. It may be an aphrodisiac. Special for winter nights.

  • ACE07/20/2002

This is great stuff; get compliments every time i wear it...I highly recommend it.....!

  • BRENDAN07/18/2002

    The smell makes me sick!

  • DG07/16/2002

This stuff is the sh*t! Every and I mean every female who has smelled this stuff loves it, women will be coming up close to you just to smell you. The best kept secret in colognes out there.

  • THE BIG R07/08/2002

I think that if you wear this one you will definitely get your share of attention ;)

  • BETHANY07/02/2002

Very sensual. Sweet and spicy, must be used with a light hand as it can be go from sensual to too much easily. Otherwise, I really like this one on a man.

  • RALPH07/01/2002

GREAT SMELL. MANLY, SPICY, GOOD. THE LADIES REALLY LOVE THIS ONE ON ME. I GET MANY GOOD COMMENTS ON THIS ONE. DEFINITELY A WINNER.

  • DAVID06/25/2002

This is hardly the type of masculine cologne you would wear to smell good. With the rich, sweet, refined scent it is intended for romance and sex. My sex life has improved with this product.Trust me!

  • GOOSE05/31/2002

All she said when she first got a whiff of this stuff was "Please Do Me Now!" So I obliged. Great, a winner and not overpopulated like some other colognes I know of.

  • BRIAN05/26/2002

I bought a small bottle of this on sale and liked it alot on paper. It has alot of different tones to it, a very complicating smell. Sometimes it will have a mild warm spicy scent to it, then it can smell sweet. This is my first Givency product. I am aware they make very different exotic colognes, daring scents even more then what Christian Dior makes. This is a somewhat strong cologne, but I did not feel one that you could only put a little on so I went with alot. This could be used in romantic situations or late out at night. Definitly a night cologne but would not restrict it to just night. This cologne defintly makes my top 10 best colognes ever list so I am giving it a 5 star rating. Received alot of compliments on it. I am eager to try the regular Xeryus as well.

  • ZEUS05/24/2002

Don't buy that pheromone laced crap like Realm to attract the ladies. Xeryus Rouge is the ticket for long-lasting attraction. I do not get asked anymore "what cologne I have on" when wearing my fav. LeMale by Gaultier because many women already know it but this stuff is a sure thing for getting asked and then you receiving. BUY IT!!!!!

  • DOUG05/22/2002

Just recently discovered this cologne, and is it awesome! Everyone I've asked love it, very HOTT!

  • STEVE02/27/2002

i've had this one for a couple of years, and it is one of my most complimented fragrances... take my advice: wear this on a first date! it's spicy/sweet, masculine, sexy!

  • BULLDOG12/15/2001

A *very* popular scent with the ladies. Reactions from some women have been most surprising. I wound up buying a bottle of it for one of my co-workers' husbands for their anniversary. One of the more powerful reaction-producing scents I've found. Similar in some ways to Samourai (Alain Delon) and Desire (Alfred Dunhill).

  • HARPO10/27/2001

everytime i wear the rouge, i get so many compliments on it! great smell! great product!

  • EDIE06/23/2001

My ex wore this, and he said he got more compliments on this cologne than any other that he had ever worn! I also love the cologne. It's very sexy. More men need to wear this one!
