...the new tamango [in black box] is very good and fresh...

  • DAVID H SLACK11/23/2012

My first encounter with Tamango was a young lady wearing it in a Monte Carlo nightclub in 1974 (no funny business !!!) andknew that my wife would simply adore it. I was not wrong and she has been using it ever since. Sadly not EDP any longer.

  • NORA MARAZZI11/20/2012

I love the smell of Tamango.

  • SUSIE04/06/2011

Tamango is such a beautiful perfume. I had recently worn it when meeting a friend I haven't seen in many years. The first thing he said was "what is the name of the perfume your're wearing, as it smells delicious on you." I think that says it all about Tamango!

  • SHIRLEY08/09/2010

I concur with one of the ladies here.. Tamango might have a lite and subtle scent but it does stays with you long or all day! It doesn't mean that once you don't smell it it's gone.. nope that's how should a perfume be. you can't smell it but others can...love this perfume.. one of my favorite!

  • SUANNE LILLA07/13/2009

I think the reason this perfume is cheap is because #1, it's mostly sold in drug stores and 2)this fragrance is an old one, but a classic!

  • SUE C11/15/2007

I finally treated myself to some Tamango after loving it many years ago. As Dennis mentioned, if you like Fidji you will like Tamango. It is light, delicately spicy and exotically tropical with its touch of wild orchid. It is very classic French and you can wear it anywhere. If you are a teenager who is used to the current fad of heavy sweet candy/fruity scents you will find Tamango too subtle for your nose.

I always get such nice compliments when I wear Tamango. I ride the subways to work everyday and many riders sitting next to me do ask which perfume I'm wearing. I guess my chemistry and Tamango compliment each other. My husband says it smells beautiful on me.

  • CAROUSEL04/09/2007

Two weeks ago, when I first tried this scent, it was so heavenly--it took me back to my childhood when the pretty ladies smelled so nice. Now, the bottle smells like a dirty armpit, and if I wear it, I smell like I need a bath.

  • JORDANA04/22/2006

Even though Tamango may be 30 years old and I'm only 22, I still love to wear this perfume. I always get compliments on how beautiful I smell, especially from the young guys at work. I think Joyce needs to have her nosebuds checked out or maybe she should wear it when she's on a date. I'm sure the reaction from the guys will change her mind. She seems to be the only one who has tried Tamango and dislikes it. Maybe she should wear men's cologne!

  • JOYCE04/17/2006

Yuck! This stuff smells like old lady perfume! The only note I can actually smell is a sour sort of rose smell, if you want to call this a soft floral go ahead, Hey this perfume is nearly 30 years old, please people out there find something new!!! You will be glad you did. I am happy that I got a sample of this, after all the good comments on it, I thought it would be great, but there is no accounting for taste, maybe you want to smell like a sour old lady!!! Good luck!

An oldie but goodie!!! Here a description by Jan Moran: "Tamango by Leonard Parfums for Women. Year Introduced: 1977. Scent Type: Floral - Aldehyde. Top Notes: Aldehydes, hyacinth, iris, wild orchid. Heart Notes: Rose, lily of the valley, jasmine. Base Notes: Sandalwood, oakmoss, vetiver, musk. Tamango is an exotic floral symphony with a dominant note of wild orchids, lifted by ethereal aldehydic top notes and soothed with soft sandalwood and oakmoss. Feminine, rich, refined." - Another olfactive description: "Floral(Hyacinth, Muguet, Jasmin, Rose) Vetiver Sandalwood Oakmoss." I agree with all the good reviews here - this is a very classic (aldehyde!), elegant and subtle fragrance. Clean and a tiny bit "soapy". Tamango smells exquisite and classy. It's composed in the typical old French perfume-tradition, but I like it. This fragrance smells ladylike, but in a good and very pleasant way. Self-confident and posh. It's worth a try if you like Chanel No.5, Arpège by Lanvin and L'Aimant by Coty!!!

  • DENNIS02/07/2006

Definitely stands out in my book of the most lust-worthy fragrances of the 70's. Like Fidgi, it screams Dorothy Lamour & sarongs, although I always imagined a blond would be more suitable for this fragrance.

  • WARTIE11/19/2005

I think Robin's description is good -- I, too, find Tamango to be a light (and lovely) chypre. It is feminine in a quiet understated way, womanly not girlile, and is not jarring, too sweet, or new-fangled. It does start out "sharp" (as in the product description) but almost immediately softens to what to me is an enticing and balanced blend of flowers and warm mossy undertones. Better still, it doesn't do anything weird when it dries down. I do wish it lingered longer; does anyone know if it comes in perfume or eau de parfum?

  • KAY11/19/2005

I am interested in this scent based on the reviews. When it is described as "powdery" are you suggesting the kind of "powdery" scent like in Chanel no.5??..I certanly hope not. Thanks

  • KSENIA09/30/2005

Best from all aldehydic perfumes. My favourite now. Can't understand why is it so cheap on the web.

  • WARTIE08/15/2005

I smelled this many years ago and it stuck in my mind -- i then looked it up here to see what people said, and based on your comments I ordered it! I wasn't disappointed -- it's a wonderful, classic and classy french fragrance.

  • SUSIE01/17/2005

Tamango has always been one of my favorites of all time. Everyone who gets a whiff of it always asks me what I'm wearing and where can they buy it. My husband just loves it on me and so did my dates during my single days.

  • KATHERINE03/08/2004

a friend brought me tamango from france, and i always thought it complemented 'the katherine scent'. subtle, light, but exquisite, tantalizing. i'm so happy to find it again.

  • SUE C02/24/2004

I remember trying this fragrance about 20 years ago when the packaging was a black box with a single pink flower on it. It seemed to disappear for years but happily it's still around and the scent is the same. It's a lovely soft floral, and nice to have something that not everyone else is wearing.

  • ROBIN11/21/2003

I think this is a beautiful and special fragrance, somewhat of a light chypre, almost "buttery" - maybe it is the jasmine in it. I find it quite similar to First by Van Cleef and Arpels, but a bit softer.

  • ILYSA08/04/2003

I have been wearing Tamango for 20 years or so...it was always really difficult to get and I'd find a way! Someone actually brought me back a bottle from Paris once, I wanted it so badly. It's a shame that I have so many other favs now that I tend not to wear it as much, but there is NO OTHER fragrance like this one, ladies. Flowery, sensuous, summery...it's like wearing a beautiful garden dress.

  • CYNTHIA12/07/2002

Very nice, subtle. Good for daytime/office.

  • MIMI06/01/2002

Tamango has been my fragrance favourite for more than twenty years.Subtle, powdwery and feminine.

  • CHRIS04/19/2002

This perfume is so light and airy. I love this one, many good compliments!

  • AIMEE12/20/2001

Cool; powdery; lotion; flowers; soap; similarities with Rive Gauche.

  • ANNALISA12/03/2001

Tamango is a very, very good parfume, with a special body line. Try it. I'sure you will like it.

  • RENEE09/22/2001

This scent is very light but stays with you all day. I received Tamango as a gift while living in France and have found very few places to get it in this country. This is a wonderful, subtle scent. You will not be overpowered by this, but you will feel special all day. I highly recommend it!!!!

  • STEPHANIE09/05/2001

I've been interested in this one for quite some time because of the curious name, I was literally shocked at how light it was. I usually am prepared to get bowled over at the first whiff, but this stuff is actually too light! I couldn't believe it; although it does have a very nice floral smell that isn't too yucky and sweet. It was so light that within 5 minutes I couldn't even smell it anymore on the sample stick they gave me. I guess I'd have to use half a bottle at a time if I were to buy this one; otherwise why bother?
