It's the only scent I wear. It's been my trademark in fragrance since I was 16 years old! ...

  • VIOLET05/24/2016

...I absolutely love this product. The dusting powder is light in Shalimar scent and just gives me enough scent to last the day. Shalimar is such a beautiful and classic fragrance by Guerlain ...

  • ARDEN ZALMAN04/29/2015

have worn Shalinar for over 50 years. Nothing else...

  • FRANCY10/16/2014

...Shalimar is my signature and only fragrance. No sense muddling people's noses around me. Everyone just thinks, Mmmmm...

  • PAMELA06/14/2014

Shalimar has been my fragrance for over 30 years. It was my mother's favorite, and quickly became mine. People often comment on it when giving me a hug!

  • SANDRA03/16/2014

    Beautiful perfume.

  • MARCYE03/25/2013

I've worn Shalimar daily for 47 years and this was an excellent price with a very fast delivery time.

  • SUSIE12/02/2012

The scent of Shalimar is unbearable to me. It is way too overpowering with the scent of strong spices! It makes me want to pass out!

  • ELFABA09/03/2012

My jr high choir teacher wore this and I loved it on her. I've worn it since 1963. It's fresh and classic but can't be worn by everyone (my mother tried mine and it smelled like cat urine on her) but it smells GREAT on me! Can't wait for my backorder to arrive!!!!

  • PHYLLIS R. RATLIFF05/17/2012

I also use this product all the time, and it is wonderful.

  • PHYLLIS R. RATLIFF05/17/2012

I use this product all the time, and I love it. It is my favorite.

  • PHYLLIS R. RATLIFF05/17/2012

It was my first experience with Perfume, and I love it.

  • TONY PROCOPIO04/10/2012

I've been buying this brand of perfume Shalimar by Guerlain Parfum' for my wife for many years. No matter where we go someone expresses how much they love the smell of her perfume and then she passes that information along to others. So I guess what they say is true, besides having an excellent product, word of mouth also goes a long way. So good job and thanks for inviting me to make this review.

  • RAJUL02/18/2012

the new flanker really rocks !! i prefer it to the original. it is an amazing perfume !

  • DAWN01/11/2012

I always seem to remember Shalimar being a good evening, dress up perfume... was sadly disappointed as it probably did not suit my skin type. I will gift it to my mum, but other than that the product is good and delivery was excellent.

  • MURIEL08/27/2011

After 50 years on this earth, I finally found a fragrance that matches me/a wonderful earthy spicy mix with a strong hint of sexy. Awesome

  • BARBARA01/03/2011

Shocked to hear it contained musk and patchouli which I dislike intensely. But, I love vanilla and bergamot.

  • SUE01/09/2010

I ordered lotion. It arrived as Milky Veil. They're not the same product. Used to like the lotion--Milky veil is a different scent and more liquid

  • MYSTI09/13/2009

It's a classic French fragrance that should be applied sparingly in order to enjoy its smoky, incense aroma. I think it is a beautiful fragrance and I will purchase it again.

  • JUDY02/25/2009

I have been wearing Shalimar since the 60's and refuse to wear anything else .... it has to be the right one for you to really take advantage of the scent. I have has strangers come up to me wanting to know what it is - mostly men, drives them wild!!! For me there is NOTHING else!!!!

  • JR02/15/2009

To me, this smells like rosemary and powder. I just can't get into it beyond that. I find it strong and penetrating and outdated.

  • SUE01/12/2009

I'd rather not have people ask "what I'm wearing," but rather, "oh, what smells so good." :)

  • SUE01/12/2009

I think some samples get old sometimes at the counters. The new lotions in the new blue bottles do not have the same Shalimar scent they had before. The light scent is a strange variation. I don't love the new packaging--but the scent is still lovely.

  • JUDI W*11/27/2008

Sorry, you had to experience Shalimar in 2008. When I first wore this fragrance, it was in the seventies. It was much better than, and full bodied, then now. I know they've "tweaked" it since then. I smelled a bottle in Bloomingdale's and thought it was horrible, next to what it was. Maybe the parfum is still good, but the EDT was horrendous to me. All in all, it WAS a lovely fragrance, and is better than some of the cr*p out there now.

  • GAIL10/27/2008

I have been wearing Shalimar since 1972 and no other perfume comes close for me. I get compliments all the time on how nice I smell!!

  • JAN10/25/2008

Coco.....for the spice and warmth in winter. Fracas for summer nights, and Champs Elysees for summer days. Bandit...that crackes like a whip on cold, rainy days. Like a wordrobe. Many compliments on all four.

  • CAROL10/13/2008

I love Shalimar. I have been wearing it consistently for 41 years. I also love Opium which I have worn for 25 years. These are my only two!

  • PATTY10/07/2008

I love Shalimar..I try othr fragances, powders, etc..and keep coming back to Shalimar..I have worn it since I was 15 yrs..old..tried so many others..and with Sahlimar..(my grown daughtr hates it???)..I get compliments all the time..especially from the gentlemen...

  • AIMEE09/01/2008

Lassie, I appreciate your struggle with this fragrance. It is distinctive, and occasionally, I too smell that "burnt vanilla in an overheated plastic container smell." For whatever reason, I don't smell this all the time--maybe hormonal??? I don't know. When once in a while I smell this on someone else, I never get that impression from the sillage and no one ever comments negatively about it on me. It might just be an up close and personal impression that others cannot detect--but you have to like it on yourself!

  • LASSIE08/16/2008

I've sampled this old-fashioned horror and really really tried to find something to appreciate about it. But to me, it smells not only just like baby powder (gag me!) but it smells like a plastic container of baby powder that was set on fire and is still smoldering. Ordinarily I love vanilla, even the 'plasticky' note (sometimes, if not too strong), but what the heck is in here that smells so foul? I keep creeping back to the department store, spray, and run - and I still don't like it after multiple tries. Maybe I should stop trying, LOL!

  • SHARON07/17/2008

My boot camp instructor in the Navy wore Shalimar and it was awful. I will always tie in memories of her with that perfume!

  • SHERIDAN ELLIS07/10/2008

I will always have this love hate thing going on with Shalimar. I love it because it is the classic of all classics IMO and the beauty of the bottle, etc....I just can not wear it well because of the powdery dry down on my skin. I have been told it smells great on me though (by my mom and daughter so I am not sure that counts?!? LOL but I don't think they would be biased, since my mother does not care for Shalimar. She is an Opiumette all the way). Anyway, it is very pricey so if you are looking for a wonderful alternative (read: drug store) buy I would highly suggest Tojours Moi. It too, is an older scent (released 1921 by Dana) that I find very similar to Shalimar. It has sandalwood and vetiver, with a floral touch and musky undertones. I purchased some at Walmart off the shelf for only 12.00 last weekend. It has a ton of staying power and is not quite so powdery, although Shalimar shall remain unprecidented in legend along with Coco and Opium.

  • ME06/13/2008

Try Shalimar in the Parfum!! It is wonderful. I just love it. It is the best.

  • ME05/22/2008

I have it in the EDT, EDP, body lotion, and body cream. I just ordered the parfum and I can't wait. I get compliments from men when I wear this one. I love Shalimar and classic scents. This is one of my signatures and always will be.

  • WATERQUEENE04/29/2008

And for all you other ladies who have worn Shalimar for many years. People always comment on how great I smell but I myself cannot smell Shalimar within 30 minutes of applying it. I usually wear the EDP and I know that it has staying power. Is my nose just used to it? Has anyone else had this experience?

  • DONNA03/22/2008

I wear Shalimar exclusively and get told all the time how good I smell. Most men tell me how sexy I smell. I have used this for years am now the new 30. So not so young but still very good.

  • AIMEE12/29/2007

I agree ladies. This is beautiful and it is the classic to which all other orientals can be traced. Today I have a newfound appreciation for it. I dropped a full 1 ounce bottle of the pure Shalimar perfume on my bathroom floor. I could have cried, but wow does my bathroom smell gorgeous! I decided I have to go out and buy a brand new bottle. As for compliments, I've concluded that we have to like it for ourselves. Some of the fragrances that garner compliments are trendy or "foody" in nature and are not the ones I enjoy wearing. Shalimar is sexy, so enjoy it. And for the record, I am 48 years old but I have always enjoyed this type of fragrance. I do not believe it is only for the mature. I had the good sense to like it when I was much younger.

  • ANNAMARA12/19/2007

I saw you postings on Coco Chanel and was drawn to your name when I came on this page this morning. You see, I LOVE Shalimar, but nobody ever tells me I smell good, so I try other more "classical" ones like Coco, which I like, but I always feel Shalimar is more "me". Yet I feel concerned in case it's not that nice, but reading your posting this morning cheered me, and I'm going to wear Shalimar this morning! Thank you and Happy Christmas!

  • HARLEY-MAMA11/15/2007

When I smell Shalimar, "class" comes to mind. Very chic and elegant. Great staying power. My mom loves Shalimar along with my Grandma, Aunts and so do I! I'm 32 and don't feel this is 'Old-ladyish' at all. Infact, I feel very confident and sexy when I do wear Shalimar. Nothin' but comments when I wear this and its from men, YOUNG and OLD!! You can't go wrong with a classic!

  • DARRSHAN10/30/2007

it is for those who like old and classic oriental fragrances. very classical.

  • PAM09/25/2007

The scent of Shalimar has been in our family for 50 years. My sisters wear it, I wear it and my mom still loves it. Oddly it's one of those little girl things that is still so clear in my mind. I can smell it, close my eyes and see my mom ready to out with my dad to dinner.

  • OLGA09/17/2007

I remember my French colleague telling me Shalimar was her fave perfume. Since I thought she had a good taste, I decided to try it out. I must admit, I hated it at first and didn't touch a sample I got in the mall for a long while. To me, it smelled like burnt rubber. I did rediscover it recently and now like it so much that I put a little bit on my wrist every night before bed. I still feel those smokey top notes, but I learned to be patient and wait for the gorgeous middle notes to reveal themselves, the drydown is very luxurious. I am puzzled, however, as to where I can wear it. It seems too pretty and glorious for everyday or daytime wear. I guess I will keep using it as aromatherapy and for special occasions.

  • ENA09/01/2007

I first discovered Shalimar 5 years ago. I had always been searching for a scent that was unusual, oriental and unique. Shalimar in my opinon is all of those. It makes me feel like a woman and that anything is possible.

  • PERFUMER08/16/2007

Love this for spring and fall. I use Samsara in the dead of the winter. It warms me. This is a beautiful lemon vanilla smell with a powdery finish. If it works for you - you are lucky!

  • ANNAMARIA08/06/2007

I was interested by Mary Alice's comments about the EDT. I might try that. I'm not keen on the citrus start of this EDP, but I do love the drydown. Oddly, sometimes I feel it's too heavy and like aftershave, and other times I just find it so warm and comforting and powdery. But I do love it, and I also love the fact that it isn't one of the "it" perfumes, so I don't smell like the masses. I'm pretty individual in my style and taste and this works for me. I have always (well, for 6 years) loved L'Heue Bleue by Guerlain, but sometimes it just seems too much. I used to love Samsara, but I just can't wear it any more for some reason, without feeling a little sick. Mitsouko is great in the EDT, although doesn't last too long, but the EDP is not so good in my opinion. Actually, I gave the EDP to my boyfriend and he sometimes wears it. It's far more masculine than the EDT. So Shalimar is somewhere in between Samsara and Mitsouko for me I suppose. I think PRADA took from it when they were designing their perfume.

  • ME08/06/2007

I love this stuff! It is a creamy vanilla lemon w/ a bit of smokiness on me. I can't believe I haven't found it until 2007!!! It has been around forever. So much better than the modern sweet fruity fragrances out now. Shalimar has subtle presence on me and I just love that!

  • LONDON06/09/2007

I remember this smelled good, when my mom was wearing this years ago. I loved it on her as a kid. Nowadays, you can find it in the bargain bin. She even stoped wearing it because it's terrible now. We sometimes wonder if they changed the formula on some of these perfumes. It smells EXTREMELY cheap, and asthma inducing, BIG TIME. Intolerable.

  • GLORY05/22/2007

Shalimar was my first ever fragrance I bought back in 1972. Back then it came it the rounded bottle with the glass stopper. I wore it to the last drop and though I loved it I never replaced it. I got caught up in other fragrances. Recently I inherited a truckload of fragrances and among them was Shalimar parfum in the newer spray bottle. I knew instantly that it had been tweaked and found it more smokey. I wore it a few times and my son kept telling me how good I smelled and he is my best critic on fragrance. I do still adore this fragrance and somehow Shalimar evokes memories like no other scent. It takes me right back to the 70's in a very good way.

  • JUDI W*03/30/2007

About 35 years ago, I went to Paris, and brought quite a few bottles of Shalimar back to the States with me. It was in an enamel looking bottle with off white background & blue flowers on it. It smelled so beautiful & rich, smooth & creamy back then. I smelled some the other day in a store, and thought it was a joke. It was harsher, and thinner, not at all like it once was so many years ago. I KNOW they have tweaked it, no doubt about it. Maybe not the parfum, but the EDT & the EDP, yucka doodle! How could they? It was one of the most beautiful & sexy fragrances of all time, and it wasn't as powdery back then as it is now. HATE THAT!!!! Back in the day, I would give it 5 stars, now....

  • MARY ALICE03/25/2007

Nothing is lasting any amount of time on me right now because i am on chemotherapy. It is aso frustrating!! My Shalimar is the only hold-out: it stays true all day. I hope that those around me are enjoying it as much as I do. I honestly think they put cocaine in it! There are times I absolutely crave it and it is an awesome mood elevator. If anyone has any tips for increasing staying power please share...I have tried the unscented vasoline and layering with bath products. My skin is like sand-paper right now and nothing is working. Scents soothe my soul and I miss them. Don't underestimate the connection between medications and their effect on fragrance.Thanks.

  • JANE LEE03/22/2007

I adore this perfume. It is warm, exotic and feminine. Every time I wear it, I am asked (even by complete strangers!) what my perfume is. If you want a fragrance that is out of the ordinary, without being overpowering, this is the one for you. It also lasts very well, even on my extremely fair skin.

  • MARY ALICE03/17/2007

Our high end retailer in Portland, Maine has the real parfum...it costs the earth and is on my "when I win the lottery" list. Hope this helps as Macy stores seem to be everywhere I travel in the U.S. Your moniker makes me wonder if you are from Georgia. That's my home state.

  • MARY ALICE03/11/2007

I got the EDT today. I am so accustomed to having to use so much fragrance on my fragrance resistant skin, that I found I was really over-doing it with the EDP. I know that others have posted that the two formulations are very alike, but that was not my experience. On my skin the EDT was the drydown of the EDP. I didn't recognise the sharp citrusy top note that I get with the EDP: it went straight to the sweet floral vanilla. I like this concentration almost as much as the EDP and don't have to worry that my heavy handedness will offend others. I would highly recommend giving the EDT a try if you find the EDP to be too intense.

  • ALIW03/04/2007

I fell in love with Shalimar when I was in college, six years ago. I was in search of something different from the trendy, floral perfumes out in the market at that time. Shalimar was my first oriental scent and I found it to be soft, beautiful and when applied lightly, perfect for any time. What I loved is that none of my friends used Shalimar, so my fragrance was completely unique. I received so many compliments from my classmates (all in their early 20's) and they didn't find it smelling old or too mature on my skin. I'm so glad that this perfume works well with my chemistry. Even though I may try other scents from time to time, Shalimar will always remain one of my favorites!

  • MARY ALICE02/25/2007

I tried Shalimar many years ago and dismissed it immediately because it was so different from the light florals that I loved. Now that I am trying to expand my tastes in fragrances, I have given Shalimar another try. It is so luxurious. On my skin, it begins very "citrusy". That initially alarmed me because, while I have tried to smell like a flower, I don't aspire to smelling like orange juice. The fruit note quickly dissipates to this rich ambery patchouli. It leaves a nice trail as I move around the house and I can double back on myself! At the same time it is not overbearing or cloying. Shalimar is pleasantly and luxuriously feminine to my nose and I'm so glad I gave it a second try. Additionally, the staying power rocks and, on my skin, that is amazing.

  • BLACKAMBERMOON02/23/2007

An older woman at work wears this, and she smells like a powder factory (she smokes, too, and the combination is most unpleasant!). Knowing that perfumes smell different on everyone, I sampled this the other day on myself. Yup - powder puff. Not sexy in my opinion.

  • SAVANNAH12/13/2006

Can anyone tell me where to find the real Shalimar perfume in the .25 spray? Thanks!

  • PERFUME NEWBIE11/28/2006

This is a nice scent. My daughter told me it smells like the shops that sells incense/buddhas/crystals etc. I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it however. I don't want to smell like those shops! LOL.

  • STACY11/19/2006

eew. i know a lot of people like this perfume. but to me, it is yucky and i do not want to smell this bad. i think a lot of people like it so much because they think they are supposed to like it because it is considered "high class" and sophisitcated and expensive!

  • BLUE SWEDE11/16/2006

Hi! I'm curious to know what you think of Shalimar and Samsara - I have not tried either one of them. What do/don't they have in common? Looking forward to your replies - Thanks!

  • D.J.10/30/2006

i remember my grandmother had a bottle of this on her vanity and i used to sneak it on (like she could'nt smell it on me). I loved it then and still love it. it's a classic and deserves to be. the others come and go but shalimar is here to stay. thank god. enjoy it.

  • SEXY KITTEN10/07/2006

It took me awhile to get to know shalimar...like a new lover it takes time in each others company to form an opinion of whether you want to spend more time together...but I have to say that I like it...it's not my favorite but I like it...

  • LUCY10/04/2006

My sister loves this scent, but I think it smells like rusty nails. Don't Like it at all.

  • BERITANETTE10/02/2006

Shalimar is a elegant high quality scent, but I prefer Shalimar Light. Much easier to wear, and it's still Shalimar

  • GRETCHEN09/12/2006

If clouds had a scent, they would smell like Shalimar- it's so heavenly. I agree with fragrantone totallly that this is an old-school bombshell fragrance. Now is the time to wear it with the cooler weather coming. You can help but feel feminie when you spray this on!

  • DISNEYGIRL195408/26/2006

I fell in love with Shalimar when I was 15 years old. My boyfriend at that time loved it. Well, many years later, I fell in love with that high school boyfriend again and the first present he gave me was a bottle of Shalimar. He said that whenever he smelled the fragrance, he remembered me.

  • FRAGRANTONE07/23/2006

Shalimar is the finest old-school bombshell perfume that I own. I have one of the old fashioned, gorgeous bottles, and it is as fresh as the day I bought it 15 years ago. Over the years, this fragrance has drawn me compliments from men of all ages. When I apply it, it is as if I have sprayed myself with sexy self confidence. I need to wear it more often!

  • BARBARA W06/24/2006

I've really tried to like Guerlain's fragrances, but many of them (like Shalimar and Samsara), have that powdery dry down that I can't stand. I never thought I'd use the term "old lady" to describe a perfume (my apologies in advance!), but that is what comes to mind when I smell this. It's got to be the "powder factor" that has me making that association. Sorry to all the Shalimar lovers out there, but I'll pass on this one.

  • BABYDOLL06/09/2006

there is something intriguing about shalimar,it's one of those scents that slowly and gently get under your skin and in the end you find out you're kind of hooked.A real classic!

  • KATHY05/24/2006

Tried this one after 25 years of not smelling it and it is just as BAD as it was then. I know we all have different tastes, but I am baffeled that any one would like the scent of stale, musty vanilla. To each his own I guess. Must like vanilla in order to wear this one.

  • JB05/21/2006

I have to disagree with previous posts on this subject. I have Shalimar in the EDC, EDT, EDP, and Parfum strengths and I can detect differences in every one of them. I prefer the EDP & Parfum, they seriously do last MUCH longer, well, on me they do. I have to agree about sometimes noticing a different drydown, I sometimes detect a strange harshness to it, (regardless of which version I'm wearing) I really think that is due to hormones/chemistry changes here and there, I'm thinking it may have a lot to do with diet, because I've noticed if I eat a lot of onions or garlic one day, certain fragrances dont smell right on my skin for about a week or so afterwards. This makes sense to me from my own experiences, although I admit I'm no Dr. or chemist or the like and havent done any scientific studies on this, but hey, think about it, "you are what you eat". It's something to take into consideration when trying out new fragrances.

  • NR05/05/2006

I love love Shalimar because of the lingering powdery scent.I am looking for other alternatives. Can somebody help me here. Thanks.

  • BILLYE T04/15/2006

My Mother wore this perfume when I was growing up & I remember it was one of several she wore when she was going to a special event so my memory of this scent was very vague. I was at the perfume counter and thought I would try it. I spritzed some on my wrist and everyone standing around me looked up and moved away. It was awful!!! Even the perfume lady said she would get me a moist towelette as soon as she finished with her customer. As I'm standing there the perfume started to "develop" and within 5 minutes it was wonderful!!!! When the lady came back with a towelette I had her smell my wrist. She wanted to know what I had sprayed because she said it was a beautiful scent on me. She couldn't believe it was Shalimar because she said the initial spray was terrible on me...that she could smell it several feet away. I continued shopping and while purchasing an item the salesman asked what perfume I was wearing, stating that it was an intoxicating perfume. I went back and bought a bottle and the lotion. He was right! I've received so many compliments from both sexes. Thank goodness for slow perfume ladies otherwise I wouldn't have been reintroduced to this oldie but very goodie! If it is an "old ladies" perfume...que sera, sera! The men that are complimenting me are anything but old!

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE04/12/2006

Thanks for your post! I see we DO have similar tastes! I will be ordering Lou Lou soon having tried a sample; it's terrific! I am not happy with my Ghost or Ghost Deep Night; in fact I'm looking to sell them. (I posted that intent here on both those messages boards.) I see a lot of positive comments on Hypnose. I am going to have to get out and try that one! Thanks for writing. Will get back to you!

  • JAN04/11/2006

Bandit, Fracas, Cabochard, Champs Elysees,....and at times, Marc Jacobs....in that order. I could get used to Shalimar, but too common for my taste. I like something different so that I don't smell like anyone else. I would rather have people ASK me what I am wearing rather than TELL me because they are soooo familiar with it they can recognize it. I also prefer hard to find scents for the same above reasons. If they are hard to find, you are not likely to smell like anyone else you are around. Bandit is so addictive, I can actually smell it in my mind when I think of it.

  • GREEKGIRL04/07/2006

Helo again, my thats a big collection(and i thought i had a lot) but i see we do have very similar tastes I have some of the perfumes you listed, my favs are, hypnotic poison, addict, samsara, lolita-L fantasy, pink sugar amor amor, ghost , trouble, paloma picasso, deep red, red, Paris, yvresse, diesel plus plus & zero plus, narciso, tendre poison, poison, lou lou, all about eve, burberry brit, omnia, casmir, white diamonds(yeah i know) classique, wish, angel, angel peony, tried alien and love it) attraction, Hypnose(love this one) and that all i can think of right now, but i will definitely be looking for your posts for you opinion when trying new ones, bye for now. Helen.

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE04/03/2006

Hi Greekgirl! Wrote in on 3/29/06, but don't see my message here. Perhaps it was too long for PE to post, and I don't blame them! Hi and thankyou for taking the time to get back to me, since my last post i have been wearing Shalimar quite a bit and dont notice that funny smell anymore (maybe it was my hormones!) ive really grown to love shalimar as i am partial to vanilla scents, i notice we have very similar perfume tastes what other perfumes do you like? hope to hear from you soon and thanks. Helen.

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE03/20/2006

Hello there! To answer your question about the difference between the EDP and the EDT: To my nose I cannot tell any difference between the two as far as the actual scent goes. The only difference might be in the lasting power, but that's also negligible. I usually buy the EDP of any scent if I can find it. In the case of Shalimar, I have both the EDT and the EDP, and I really can't detect a noticeable difference in the staying power of the EDP over the EDT. Hope that helps you!

  • SUS02/20/2006

I have been wearing Shalimar for over 20 years and I love it! It stays with you so you do not have to reapply it, yet it is not overpowering. It is not necessarily going to smell the same on every person due to how it interacts with your body. Of all the people I know who wear it, it smell great on them. How I got hooked, a friend always smelled good and I asked what she wore and Shalimar it was!

  • SMELLIE KAT02/18/2006

I used to wear Shalimar 20+ years ago - loved it then and thought it was the sexiest, most exotic scent on earth. Because of that, and the fact that I want to add more "classics" to my collection, I purchased it again. While I still appreciate its richness and depth, I feel vaguely irritated every time I wear it. I recently figured out why. The last time I wore Shalimar, years ago, I was in a romantic relationship that was full of conflict and . . . irritation. Blew my mind when I made that connection. So now, although I still honor the beauty of this fragrance, I am letting it go to a new home with my sister, who is thrilled to get it and associates Shalimar with positive, loving memories. Sometimes, you just can't go back.

  • GREEKGIRL01/31/2006

Could anyone tell me please if there is a difference with the edt and edp. I have the edt and not so happy with it as it has a funny drydown on me .

  • 50-ISH01/27/2006

wore this in my 20s - guys love it! gave it ua as a proper married lady - now enjoying it again. i put it on before bed & remember when.....

  • PDMH4801/15/2006

I agree totally. When did perfume become so age specific? I have always loved the classics. Those here today gone tomorow scnets usually smell terrible1 ladies, apppreicate the expertise and experience of Guerlain and other classic perfumes. Classics ar classics for a reason!

  • PDMH4801/15/2006

give it to your mother. She probably always wanted to buy it herself but spent her life being to he children and wouldn't buy it for herself. (I know, I'm a mom. But I would love to recieve it as a gift.)

  • MATUSHA01/12/2006

It is a perfume which causes and expresses the desire. The woman who carries it ose, it posts its femininity and its hyper sensuality. Its mode of seduction is carnal, with the limit of the interdict. Thanks to Shalimar, it leaves free course with its directions, its desires. It has a truly passion relationship with its perfume. "To carry Shalimar, it is to let its directions seize the power " Note head: bergamot Note heart: pink, jasmine Basic note: vanilla, iris, opoponax, broad bean of tonka

  • ROSSA01/02/2006

Only Shalimar and Tabu are perfumes that almost make me sick when I smell them.

  • CASSIE01/02/2006

Obviously I will have to get the pure parfum and body cream as you have suggested JB as I do love this perfume. What to do with the edt? I will probably spray my clothes with it. I have notice this helps keep the fragrance closer for longer.

  • CATHY12/26/2005

My favorite is Shalimar Parfum Spray. The parfum is more expensive, but I want something which will wear all day. I find it light and powdery. Since the parfum is a little stronger I do not have to keep wasting and respraying. It is worth the extra money saved at the end of the day. The EDT and EDC are both too light for me. Shalimar is a classic fragrance developed in 1925 by Guerlain. Shalimar was developed when "nice ladies" did not wear loud smelling colognes among men or in public crowds. If you are having difficulty smelling the parfum--try L'Instant de Guerlain. L'Instant de Guerlain is softly scented and wears well all day. It is a soft similar scent to Shalimar but wears well with modern ladies.

  • JB12/24/2005

I have the same problem with the eau de toilette and the eau de cologne, they fade very quickly on me, especially the EDC it lasts about 10 minutes on me. I advise you to try the parfum (its staying power is amazing) and the eau de parfum versions, they last way longer, especially the pure parfum, which a few drops of last all day on me. It does cost more, but if you love this scent, its worth every penny, trust me, you wont be disapointed. Also give the body cream a try, its heavier scented than the lotion, plus it makes your skin feel awesome :o)

  • BRTTYO12/19/2005

I have used Shalimar for over 60 years. Perfume is the same, but oh those ugly bottles!! Please go back to pretty ones of old.

  • AMY12/14/2005

I love Shalimar. My mother wore it when I was a little kid, and for that reason I find it very comforting. I even own a bottle, and spray it every now and then. But I can't wear it. I'm in my mid-twenties, and it's just too heavy and musky for me. It does last forever though (both in the bottle and on your skin), so if you can pull off heavy, spicy, musky scents, you'll be quite pleased.

  • CASSIE12/11/2005

My first bottle of Shamilar was in my teens and I remember then I couldn't smell it too much and thought I had wasted my money. After reading people comments here i thought I would give it another try( yes and 20 years on) maybe my body chemistry would agree with it this time. After applying the body lotion and EDT I still cannot smell it on me.I'm so dissapointed..Has anybody else had this happen with Shalimar too?

  • MARJORIE 12/08/2005

I loved the beautiful bottles shalimar used to be bottled in new ones are not pretty but perfume is till great but i like pretty bottles

  • BONNIE ROSE12/08/2005

Like other women I have read, this is my "signature perfume". I would not settle for less. May they never do away with such a beautiful scent, forget Britney with her "Curious" and those other little fly-by-nights, Shalimar has been around since 1925 for a reason, it's a classic, and this is why.

  • KATHY12/08/2005

I remember buying this one when I was in my early 20's.. some years back. (LOL) I didn't care for it at all, but continued to wear it for a while until, I just couldn't take it any more. The only reason I put myself throught that was because, I thought wearing a classsic perfume such as Shalimar, would make me sophisticated! I have grown since then. I just can't handle the vanilla and what ever else is mixed with it. When I think back, all that comes to mind is moth ballls, not sure why though.

  • GWENDOLYN11/20/2005

Yes, Shalimar is my Aunt's fav fragrance but she is not some old bag. I personally don't care for Shalimar - too strong for me - but I appreciate it. Anyone with half their wits can appreciate a really good perfume even if they don't care for it on them. What really struck me as funny are the girls who poo-poo Shalimar - but do they even realize some of the modern scents like Prada are tweeked versions of classics (in this case) like Shalimar? DOH! :0)

  • TANGY11/19/2005

Lauren G, i loved your description! I'm 30 yrs old and looking for a more substantial, more ???perfume than Eternity, which i've been wearing since i was 17. Your description made me order a bottle!!! I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for yet, but I will know when i smell it! Thanks LG x

  • SYLVIE11/14/2005

"I think it has to do a lot with the attitude of the woman wearing it." Dear Maya, you have such nice words and ideas to describe fragrances :-). I love Shalimar since I smelled it for the first time (that's 30 years ago...). I love, love, love sweet, soft-oriental fragrances with an ambery-warm (vanilla/sandalwood) drydown and I love very spicy oriental fragrances (Opium, Youth Dew, Obsession for example). It's such a pleasure to smell beautiful and ultra-feminine fragrances and to wear them. Happy sniffing, Sylvie.

  • JAN10/31/2005

I have heard that Shalimar is mentioned by name in more movies than any other perfume. Does anyone know if that is true? I bought my first bottle in the '80's after hearing it mentioned in a movie. Forgot the name of the movie, but remember the name of Shalimar.

  • ELISHA10/28/2005

I only sprayed it twice through the festival and it lasted until after Jimi Hendrix played! It's powdery vanilla, iris, and citrusy, and for the past forty years I've been wearing it, since I was 15, I've had boys and men sniffing after me like hungry dogs. I've been a married woman for the last three decades, but that doesn't stop male strangers from asking what it is! The women ask, too. The women often compliment that it smells 'delicious'; that's an adjective I've heard repeatedly.

  • MAYA10/27/2005

Although my history with Shalimar has not been as long or as colorful as some people on the board, I am very much looking forward to experiencing and building a life-long relationship with it. Shalimar is just a wonderful classy fragrance, truly eternal in my opinion... and in all honesty not everyone will be able to appreciate something like that... after all just look at how many people actually enjoy wearing Angel! Shalimar is sophisticated and well rounded... a scent in my opinion that goes well for any occasion if worn by the right person. I think it has to do a lot with the attitude of the woman wearing it. There is a certain depth with Shalimar that is unrivaled by other fragrances as well... This is probably what got me!!! I love how it goes on and how smoothly it lays on the skin. Personally I don't think it's too 'strong' or too anything for that matter. Shalimar is sublime and absolutely supreme!!! Guerlain is a genius!!!

  • SASHA10/22/2005

I think many people say it's heavy and stinky because they judge by the initial smell, while the real fragrance comes later. I discovered that the pure parfum Shalimar is better than EDP. For some reason EDT smells different than EDP and parfum.

  • LAUREN G.10/20/2005

I have been wearing this fragrance since my early 20's and love it dearly, as does my husband. I'm now in my early 40's. All the people I know who hate Shalimar had mother's who were chain smoking alcoholics wear it. What scent is going to smell fabulous laced with tobacco breath and an alcoholics altered biochemistry? This scent is for dramatic strong self loving women and not for self loathing addicts. Don't bash a scent because you associate it with a self destructive woman.

  • CONNIE10/07/2005

I began wearing Shalimar at 16. It became my "signature fragrance" and now, forty years later, it is still "my scent".

  • ALLISON R.10/07/2005

A nice lady at work let me sample her Shalimar today. She was in her fifties and said she had worn it ever since she was 15. I loved it on me, but my co-workers said it smelled like "old lady perfume." I'm going to try the light version and hopefully that will become my trademark. It is a well made perfume, and has been around forever, hence the old remark. When I was 15, Poison and Red were what people wore. Those are so hard to wear, and I never really enjoyed them.

  • JULIA10/04/2005

I never imagined that I could say this about any perfume - even not about Chanel No. 5. But to me, this juice smells like "old lady". Nothing nice about it. You do not smell any flowers, not even fading flowers - fading flesh at most. Yieks!!!

  • MARY09/20/2005

I combine Shalimar with Angel, and many people tell me that I smell wonderful.

  • DARLA09/20/2005

When I was in my early 20s I was friendly with a neighbor who was old enough to be my mother (I was friends w/her daughter till she married and moved away). She had a great figure, dressed beautifully, and always, always wore Shalimar. I spent alot of time w/her because she was not happily married and missed her daughter terribly. I cannot smell Shalimar without thinking of Ray; bittersweet memories of a sad, but great smelling, lady.

  • LORI09/03/2005

i love shalimar, but only after the sharp top notes have evaporated. i've worn this since the 70's, it's a definite classic.

  • ALLYSA08/03/2005

This fragrance is very mysterious and has an oriental scent. If you are a person who loves something mystical you will love it.

  • CLARISSA08/02/2005

TONI, your story is so touching~I wish I could love a fragrance for 43 years and I wish that it would be Shalimar~Thank you~

  • TIKI07/20/2005

I love this fragrance. It is very unique and classic. The newer fragrances are common and cheap. Paris Hilton, Brittney spears. All cheap trash, just as cheap as their representatives (someone said they are too toxic smelling which is a good description). Shalimar is smokey and warm and smells glorious and is filled with class which is why many young people say it is heavy and it stinks.

  • TONI07/16/2005

My aunt wore Shalimar when I was young. I loved the wonderful vanilla scent I would smell as she walked by. Therefore, I started wearing it when I was 16. While I was teaching in my twenties, I was standing in the hall at school one morning talking with a friend who also wore Shalimar. After she left, our male principal came down the hall to talk to me and then commented that the hall smelled so good. I explained it was our perfume At a college reunion I had two "old" boy friends hug me. Both of them whispered in my ear, "You're still wearing the same perfume." In 42 years, which now makes me 58, I've never worn another perfume. In a way it's become my trademark. It's really become my trademark.

  • JAN06/27/2005

Not bad, but far too common. Everyone I know has used it. I prefer to have something not so familiar.

  • SASHA06/21/2005

None of the new fragrances is so deep and rich in notes as the old classics. None of the new fragrances has such a lasting power. None of the new frahrances develope through the day and reveal different notes. Almost all new fragrances are flat, smell like toxic chemicals and do not last at all.

  • SASHA06/21/2005

I've always been enchanted by this wonderful candy&tobacco fragrance and never asked the people who were wearing it about the name. One year ago I discovered that it has always been Shalimar EDP.

  • KAREN06/19/2005

Fantastic - I had been looking for a signiture smell and have found it. I'm now just waiting to have the incredible experience that others have had from wearing this wonderful perfume.

  • FRAGRANCE POLICE05/23/2005

Perfume Houses do not hesitate to do the best for a product. Guerlain is an example. Shalimar is possibly the best scent ever created.

  • CLARISSA05/21/2005

This scent is absolutely my pleasure. It has the most gentle and intimate touch to my inside femininity, which makes me feel completely a woman, and also it has the most beautiful bottle being created in the industry, which I have been adoring since I was a little girl. After finishing a bottle of EDT, I have bought myself a parfume. This product is worth of every penny and I will continue to use it the rest of my life.

  • CAMILLA05/12/2005

I AM SORRY BUT IT IS TOO HEAVY FOR A YOUNG WOMAN.(I'M 29) I JUST HAD IT GIFTED YESTERDAY BUT I CAN NOT WEAR IT. I THINK I WILL GIVE IT TO MY MOTHER OR TO MY BROTHER(IT SMELLS TO MY MORE LIKE MEN PERFUME)

  • JB05/07/2005

Shalimar CAN very well be worn by men as well as women, without a doubt or a problem. I know because I'm a man & I've worn Shalimar for many, many years. I get compliments everytime I wear it, from women & men alike and NO ONE HAS EVER commented that I smell feminine. There are some mens fragarances on the market today that smell way more feminine than Shalimar. Shalimar is one of the best fragarances of all time, one that I cannot be without.

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE05/03/2005

This one has it all. I used to hate Shalimar when I was in my twenties. Now in mh forties, I'm loving it! Cute story: Wore it to a church meeting one night. Was sitting in a pew when the man next to me who was a casual friend, leaned over and said, "Are you TRYING to turn me on? God you smell good!" I got a bit red-faced, but was complimented just the same!

  • JILLIAN04/20/2005

I really, really do not like Shalimar. I am a 23 year old woman who prefers light scents that remind me of water and floral breezes. Shalimar is in many ways the exact opposite of this. It is generally very strong and heavy. If you are going to wear it at all, please wear it during cold weather, for evening, or at least dab it on sparingly. At least I do not hate this as much as my sister; my late grandmother loved this, and it reminds me a little of her, but that does not mean I wish to smell like her!

  • MERMISS03/25/2005

To me Shalimar is more romantic than sexual. It is almost innocent in a way, there is a certain light about it, something that attracts love and loving thoughts. On me it is citrusy, leathery, much vanilla and amber with hints of patchouli. My boyfriend said "It smells like incense." Voila.

  • PAZZO03/22/2005

This perfume never agreed with me.On me it was so pungent that it made me nauseous.Reminded me of a floor cleaner.Even the dry down was nothing worth talking about.I had a sample bottle so instead of throwing it away ,one day when my 3 yr old daughter asked to wear one of mommy's perfume i dabbed a little on her neck and wrists. She smelled it and said -Umm so good!!!.Later when i was putting her to bed I hugged her and was surprised by how wonderful she smelled. It was exquisite- powdery and soft.So now i understand why some people whose chemistry agree with it love it so much. Unfortunately mine doesn't, but i can always dab some on my daughter and enjoy it whenever i feel like it.

  • STEPH03/13/2005

Yucky, sweet, chemical smell like vanilla gone very bad. The definition of "cloying" and nausea inducing. But other than that...

  • SYLVIE01/30/2005

THE legendary *MUST HAVE* for VANILLA lover!!! What a beautiful, ultra-feminine and erotic fragrance. Irresistible sexy on the right woman! If you don't like warm ambery vanilla fragrances: STAY AWAY!!!

  • CLAUDIA T.01/27/2005

One of my friends is very enthusiastic about this so I think I should try it as well, especially when it happens to be such a classic scent from prestigious Guerlain. I got my bottle tonight and put it on soon after shower, but, well, I don’t actually know how to describe this…..it is such a weird smell on me, sort of like body powder for babies. It doesn’t smell unbearable, or disgusting, on the contrary, it is quite wearable cause it smells rather light and powdery on me. The thing is that it doesn’t smells like me at all cause I usually prefer more conspicuous and intriguing scent (Samsara, if from Guerlain). I am sure it can be a timeless classic cause it has a very gentle character, but perhaps it is just not my cup of tea? Or maybe perfume will make it different cause my bottle is EDT.

  • GLORIA01/19/2005

The PARFUM is the only one I'll wear. Don't like the edt or edp. Give me the real thing or I don't want it. The body cream is GREAT!

  • CHRISSY01/06/2005

To all the people out there that say it is an old lady scent and that it is disgusting you have to remember it might just be your own chemistry that it is mixing with. Scents smell different on everyone. I love it!

  • ANNETTE12/26/2004

I have worn this perfume for more than 20 years. Everyone asks what it is and men are enthralled by it. My sons adored it when they were babies and still associate the smell with home. I recently had difficulty finding it in the shops, and my son tracked it down on line for me. I am sure the two great loves of my life were 'seduced' by it who adored my smell. I highly recommend it but it does smell different on some people who have bought it after asking me what I am wearing!

  • NONA12/20/2004

Shalimar is the best perfume on earth..I love it ;)

  • SASHA12/05/2004

Sunlight is right: Shalimar Light is light, actually it is strong but for two minutes and then gone completely. While the classic Shalimar stays a long time with you and drives men crazy! Besides you can enjoy top middle and base notes. I am sorry that most of the modern fragrances are not so rich and beautiful and have no lasting power, after 10 minutes they all smell in the same gross way. I hope Shalimar will always be available for me!

  • DORA12/03/2004

I always wanted to have Shalimar and I finally got as a present from my dad. I love it, it is so warm and pleasent. I love to wear on cold and rainy days. While I wear it I feel very feminine and at peace. Men love it! That's for sure!

  • SOFTCLASSYFEMININE12/02/2004

My boyfriend and I love this scent...in theory. His mother wears it and I always compliment her, so he figured he'd buy it for me. We all know that fragrances don't smell the same on different skin, so i wasn't too upset when it just smelled flowery. Weird thing is, I had my sister (whose only 25) and my girlfriends who are my age (22) try it and it had the same affect. My mother, aunt and godmother put it on and WOW, it's perfection. It really is a more mature scent. I usually like these (Initial and Vera Wang), but it is too old-fashioned on me. Smells really good on the "Baby Boomer" crowd (hope this isn't being to stereotypical)

  • REBEKAH11/30/2004

Shalimar is one of the oldest and most timeless classics. It has a beautiful scent that works well with everyone. After spraying it on, it smells different on each person (as do all parfumes) but this scent is as elegant and flirtatiously feminine as they come. My mother has worn it her whole life, and now all of my friends are starting to pick it up. It just doesn't ever go out of style. Its a light sweet/spicy smell that does not knock you over, or announce your presence in a room before you get there like others will. Its definately a good choice for everyone.

  • MEDIA M.11/28/2004

This is the most incredible fragrance I have ever worn!Men especially love it.I've had them stop to ask me the name of my perfume. One guy asked me if I would just walk past him so he could smell the breeze I created.Shalimar makes me feel so sexy and womanly. It is the only perfume I wear. This is one scent that will be around forever. It is truly timeless!

  • SHANNON11/26/2004

I nearly and I mean very nearly bought a bottle of this for a very cheap price of $9.99 - luckily I tried it and It smells like pinetarsol with vanilla essence - the worst perfume next to poison. Ughhh Im so glad I didnt make that mistake

  • SANDOKAN09/20/2004

Sometimes when I wear Vetiver, I add a tiny amount of Shalimar - blends very well!

  • CINDIE 09/12/2004

I have a bottle of this from way back in the day that belong to my mother and now she does not like it. A little to stong and heavy.

  • PARISIAN08/06/2004

To me, Shalimar for men is just that, Shalimar. Why change a classic fragrance and adapt it to the men;s market? If you like it, wear it. However, if you do think Shalimar is a little too feminine for you, here are a few suggestions. Mouchoir de Monsieur de Guerlain smells very much like Jicky, which in turn smells like Shalimar. They say Shalimar is Jicky with loads of vanilla. The notes of MdM and Shalimar are quite similar. Jicky used to be worn by men, it was after all Sean Connory's favourite perfume for himself. Habit Rouge de Guerlain was touted as Shalimar Pour Homme when it was released. To me, this is the most different of the ones I have mentioned to Shalimar, though it has a very smooth, vanilla sensual character to it. Habit Rouge is a classic in itself and I really hate comparing the two. Habit rouge is a spicy, citrus, sweet and heady oriental fragrance that was created by JPG in 1965. It still ranks number 6 on the French market and when I was in Paris a few weeks ago, many men in Paris were wearing it. So I hope my suggestions have helped.

  • CHRISSY07/15/2004

I gave this one another shot when checking out the new light version. I just cant wear it. I think it must be a chemistry thing. I do prefer the light on me. But I am not sure if enough to actually buy it. Shalimar Girls continue on..its a definite classic.

  • ERIC VON RHEIN07/11/2004

I wear it day and night. I LOVE that 'girly' feeling I get when i spray it on!

  • CHERYL DARNELL07/02/2004

GREAT!!!!!! This is all I can say. My daughters friend bought a bottle home from Paris and I have been hooked ever since. Men love the smell.

  • LAURA06/23/2004

I wanted so bad to like this!! It just doesn't mix with my chemistry!!! I loooved the vanilla in it, but once it settles, it has this beautiful vanilla smell, but another mix that smells like pledge and baby powder in it too. I was soooooo sad!!!! Darn my skin chemistry!!! But for those who can wear it, it's a very beautiful, classy smell.

  • MARTIE06/06/2004

I just bought this in the lotion. It has a really upbeat smell. It is fresh (bergamot) and sweet (vanilla). It's one of those that you have to keep smelling (addictive).

  • LAURA05/28/2004

I've worn Shalimar for years and am by no means an old woman. It's always been my husbands favorite, and I've tried alot of different ones over the years. If pleasing his senses makes me an old woman, then so be it. I don't quite understand why people on this message board feel the need to insult someone elses choice of fragrance; pretty childish.

  • SUNLIGHT05/14/2004

dont buy the old Shalimar~ I saw that post and needed to support her ~ please smell the NEW Shalimar Called "Light"~ ITS SO ADDICTIVE. I actually came to this site to find it. dont see it. Its SO sexy one of those where u keep smelling YOURSELF who cares about anyone else smelling you~! Its LUSH~! not heavy, sensous But powdery, Floral, but makes u hungry for something u cant put your finger on.. mysterious but free and open...

  • ITALIANGIRL05/05/2004

This perfume is classy, sexy, and timeless. Since it has been around since 1925, and still sells in large quantities, my guess is that it is a true classic loved by many...I included. It has stood the test of time.

  • KAYLIANNA04/28/2004

I too thought the original was a bit old ladyish but the new Shalimar Light is AMAZING! I have not stopped smelling my wrist ALL DAY! I love vanilla and right now I feel like I've got cookies on my wrist. Totally sunny and warm and finally YUMMY! My new fave! You've gotta try it!

  • NAYAD04/18/2004

In your dreams! Light and airy is more like it. Ask the real men what the heavy fragrances are.

  • KARENA GUTMANN04/18/2004

My man doesn't like the light version. So much the better. I like wearing the original. If it fits, wear it! Shalimar forever.

  • FRAGRANCE FAN04/18/2004

Shalimar is that everyone likes it and can wear it no matter what age, shape or size! I feel beautiful when I wear it!

  • SONYA04/15/2004

I used to wear this; but after awhile I grew tired of it. Even though it is powdery, there is something about it that just got too overbearing. I recently tried Shalimar Light and feel in love. It's a softer, youthful, and more refined version of the original. I can't wait to buy it!

  • ELIZABETH SHARON04/04/2004

I agree with Sheryll--men do like it. I have always liked it, partly because it was my grandmother's favorite, and partly because it smells like yummy goodies in the oven. But I have noticed, men do go for this, especially in the real deal--perfume. My favorite Guerlain is L'Heure Bleue, which has some of the same spicy, good-to-eat qualities, but is a little more sophisticated and complex, I think.

  • HAMPWIFE03/29/2004

if you want to smell like an old old lady(70 and up) put a dab of this behind your ear!!!!

  • SERENA03/17/2004

many people out there don't like this on themselves or on anyone else. Sorry if I offended anyone but I'm sure you're mature enough to handle it. Just be glad that the people who didn't rate Shalimar highly were not rude and impolite about it-go to any other board on this site and compare. That's class.

  • KIMBERLY03/14/2004

I have worn this classic perfume for over 26 years and love it just as much now as I did the first time I tried it. To me, it is the ultimate, to wear anything else would be less than First Class.

  • DENISE03/11/2004

I purchased recently the Shalimar Light and it is heavenly......as the name says lighter than the original shalimar and younger smelling I would say

  • ANA C.03/05/2004

My apologies to all the fans of Shalimar, but I think it's rather stinky. Reminds me too much of Emeraude, whose fragrance has always made me think of the epithet "cheap." I was frankly surprised and disappointed in the way Shalimar smells. I would give it a very low rating, but I chose not to rate it, simply because there are many people whose olfactory nerves enjoy the smell. I'm not one of them, but I do appreciate the fact that we're all different, and how boring it would be if we all liked the exact same things. I'd not appreciate it if someone gave my favorite fragrance a low rating; therefore, I'll refrain from giving Shalimar a rating with this review. I do want to state my take on the venerable, respected perfume---it ain't for me.

  • EDNA02/07/2004

and I'm turning 73. It's my signature fragrance. It makes me feel so sexy and it still has the men looking.

  • LOLITA02/07/2004

and was disappointed-too classic for me. My husband prefers Lolita Lempicka and Angel.

  • LAURA01/19/2004

I just purchased Shalimar this past weekend. They had something new I didn't even see at Christmas called Shalimar Light, I believe. It's in a light blue package. Has anyone else seen it or tried it? It has a lighter more citrusy smell to it. I didn't try it on my skin, I only smelled it on a card. My husband also bought me a baccarat bottle of the pure Shalimar perfume, which is heavenly. This is the only perfume he likes, and I've tried many over the years.

  • SHERRYLL12/28/2003

the first time I wore this ladys oh the looks from men I got it made me feel so sexy and when I got home WELLLLLLL and its happend everytime since my husband starts purrrrring everytime I wear it

  • NEL12/10/2003

i wear this fragrance when i go out people ask me what iam wearing shalimar is very seductive.

  • ANGEL12/02/2003

I have used Shalimar for 30 years. I fell in love with the fragrance first time I used it. It's a very sexy scent.

  • CHARLOTTE12/01/2003

This perfume is very old fashioned, clearly represented by the cheesy bottle shape. Smells like bug spray, not sexy at all.

  • SUSAN11/15/2003

I have been using Shalimar for over 25 years and I still love the fragrance. It is a classic.

  • KAT 11/08/2003

^^ I like this perfume. It sounds like it's going to be a good one to try.

  • GAYLE WILSON11/06/2003

This smells nice. If only it will last longer. When you first put it on, you smell like you just finished soaping and shower. Later it will turn, and you will smell like a older woman with too much sachet.

  • ELLA10/31/2003

Sweet, woodsy and heady, Shalimar is a sultry fragrance that will either thrill or repulse you. I've always loved it, though it needs to be applied sparingly, as it can be quite intense.

  • CHRIS08/14/2003

This has always been one of my favorite perfumes.I bought a gift set for my mom for her birthday. It sure smells different on her than it does on me.We both love the fragrance.

  • CHRIS COLOGNE08/12/2003

I actually bought an eau de cologne version of Shalimar thinking it was for men, not knowing that there ARE womens colognes! (I'm still a novice at fragrances). But man let me tell you, this stuff is INCREDIBLE! The most devine powdery, sweet fragrance without being overdone. This is classic and should be an example to all the other "come and gone" fragrances for the young generation like Tommy girl, Curve, etc. I sprayed a little on my wrist (which is ALL you need) and i just wanted to keep smelling it. I think i got a high from this fragrance. It's a shame ill have to give the bottle to one of my female friends. Anyway ladies, Im a 30 year old guy who tends to like high quality fragrances and if i smelled this on you, id follow you for miles!! :)

  • SUSAN07/27/2003

Shalimar is my fragrance of choice. I do have others I like and use but this is my favorite. Because I have allergies I learned to use all fragrances sparingly and on proper body parts. I will never purchase one that does not offer me dusting powder and/or body creams. Over-application is not only wasteful and un-necessary with a quality product but also offensive to those around you. I personally think your "scent" is the mix of the product and you... this makes it "individual" and should always whisper of you as a memory, never beat someone into submission! :)

  • MYLAAN07/14/2003

Just scanning the site, happened to read your post. I emailed Guerlain one day, and asked them if Shalimar had been changed. The response came as an emphatic NO, followed by a full explaination on the changes of body chemistry over time. I must admit that perfumes I liked when I was yound do nothing for me today, and perfumes I used to hate are now on my top ten list! Hormones? Could be... HTH! Enjoy your Shalimar, I am swooning over my wrist as I type!

  • KEN07/12/2003

I wish it would be released in a men's formula like how Opium has been.

  • DANIELLA07/08/2003

I didn't used to like Shalimar as a teen, I thought it smelled old-ladyish. I noticed it on a friend recently, and it smelled so good I went and bought some. I really like it now--it's fresh, warm, romantic, and mysterious. I don't know if Shalimar has changed, or if I have, but I'd recommend it now.

  • JANINE07/06/2003

Your stories were awesome! I've been wearing Shalimar Cologne or EDT (not solely) for 20 years & love it. Have been told EDP & Pure Parfum are much better than the formulations I've been wearing. Just wondering -- which one Aphrael & Angelique use? Do they use Pure Parfum, EDP, EDT, or Cologne? What are your opinions as to the differences in these strengths? Thanks very much in advance for your input (again, your stories were great!)

  • GINA06/30/2003

Can somebody send me a sample of this perfume, please? I've heard a lot of good things about it, but I still didn't smell it. I know my grandmother loves it! I can't find it in magazines, only in online magazines! If someone can help me, please send me an email at [email protected]

  • LAURA06/30/2003

i've worn this since i graduated high school in 1981 and while i have tried literally dozens of other "newer & hipper" fragrances, this one fits me perfectly. there are no "sharp" notes only seductive warm ones. a co-worker once caught of whiff of shalimar while in a department store and he searched out the wearer thinking it was me only to meet up with another woman. this one definitely makes a statement. my husband tells me it reminds him of the days when we were dating and loves when i wear it. too strong? smells like a brothel? (how many brothels have you been in? i've never been myself.) it won't happen unless you overdo it! this is a soft, sexy and warm scent that i'll probably wear until i'm 80!

  • NAKEDCITY06/13/2003

this one just seems to hate me. Darn!!

  • MYLAAN06/11/2003

With a very light hand, Shalimar on a hot summer day is wonderful. You all wouldn't believe the # of compliments it's gotten me.

  • JEN06/01/2003

This scent will always remind me of my honeymoon! So sweet!

  • LINDA05/12/2003

    Shalimar drives my husband wild!!!

  • ARWEN05/12/2003

I´m sorry girls, but I really can´t wear this , no matter how thrilling most of you claim it is.Maybe it just doesn´t suit my chemistry. Sorry!!!

  • GOLDENLADY05/07/2003

Shalimar is way too heavy for my tastes and I've smelled it on other women too much over the years to ever want to wear it myself.

  • NANCY04/27/2003

As I said earlier post, I've been wearing shalimar since the 60's. There are still people who will compliment on the scent when I wear it, ask what the scent is, and when I answer it's Shalimar......the response is usually something to the effect" that can't be , it's so nice and light on you." Guess body chemistry has a lot to do with it........ Tried Chanel once (uncle brought it home from Paris ) showered before I left the house......Mom agreed with the decision..... Have a cousin who only wears Chanel and can't wear Shalimar.....

  • NANCY04/27/2003

The only fragrance I've used for the past 40 years........

  • GLORIA04/10/2003

Have it on today. It is so wonderful! I must admit though I think it has a lot to do with application. I am just wearing the silky body lotion and just "walked through" 1 spritz of the EDT. The body lotion is so soft smelling. I love it. I am too sexy for myself.

  • AURELIE03/27/2003

Un-matched. A love it or hate it fragrance, as most strong, distinct fragrances are. I love it.

  • MELISSA03/05/2003

I'm 45..whenever I saw Shalimar I thought "OLD" never smelled it but I guess seeing it on my mothers vanity when I was a little girl made me pass this one by. Today on a whim I bought a miniature..cool bottle..put it on and I LOVE IT. Its addicting like Angel (to me) makes all my modern scents smell artificial. I'm glad I tried it, and I know now why its a classic. Will by a full size tomorrow

  • MARYMAGS02/26/2003

to like this and the more I try, the more disappointed I am becoming. Maybe its the combination of citrus and vanilla. They just dont seem to marry well. I am not a citrussy person anyway, maybe thats it. I cant seem to give up my mini and when I see it, I want to smell it every time, and pisses me off when I do smell it because its just so disappointing. I had high hopes and they just flattened out.

  • TRISHA02/14/2003

Heavenly, sweet, heady, intense feminine, valentines day present it must have been good, she bought me a chinesse take away.

  • DEBRA B02/13/2003

c'mon, now, "disgusting" actually says nothing about the perfume, only about the raters small vocabulary. personally, i don't wear shalimar -- not because it smells bad to me, but because it evokes a strong association with my grandmother. it has been her signature scent since she was in high school back in the '30s. she used to buy a tiny vial from the five-and-dime and save it for special occasions. gramma is now in her 80s and has alzheimer's, but dabbing on shalimar still makes her feel good and special. isn't it awesome how fragrance can summon emotions so easily?

  • APHRAEL02/06/2003

Hi!I just left you a message on the Opium board. The original Lalique came in 1992, and a new one came in 2001...And I can't remember for the life of me which one I sampled!!! If you are concerned about staying power,do try to layer your scent over body products.Although a blend put together by Lalique SHOULD be of high quality and long lasting.

  • SUZANNE02/06/2003

My Signature perfume for the last 20 years.

  • HANA02/02/2003

Hi, Lola! I have a question for you and your sisters. What do you think about Lalique fragrance (there is only EDP and EDT), the new one in a white box (modified version of the one in a blue box - this new one in a white box is much better). I'm quite intriguing with this fragrance, but I'm not sure about staying power. It is very expensive and hard to find!!! PLEASE TRY IT, and tell me what is your opinion. (I left you the same messages on Opium and Must board). THANK YOU, love you all!!!

  • MARYMAGS01/31/2003

could I wear this. I dont give a damn if its a classic, I dont give a damn if its all the rage in london, france or auntie maes underpants. If it works for you, have at it dahlin. But please take it easy if you are coming near me cause I might just pull a harpo marx and hose you off with a bottle of seltzer water. Gerlain is fabulous, baby, but shalimar needs to stay far far away from miss mary. Have a great 2003.

  • APHRAEL12/16/2002

Like I said, this is why perfume is so damn cool: It's like food! You might enjoy a nice boeuf bourguignon, while someone else will prefer a coq au vin!yum yum!

  • JASMINE12/14/2002

I hope no offence was taken with my description of Shalimar. Although it's not for me, it has never bothered me when worn by others in moderation. As you know we are all entitled to different views on fragrances and I'm sure you might dislike some of my favorites. C'est la vie! It's amazing how differently people can perceive a fragrance-you'll notice one person saying a fragrance is too weak and another saying it's too strong, one person saying it's sweet, another saying it's bitter! It's quite funny really. Do you detect smokiness in Shalimar? Perhaps that is what I (and a certain Antonio) perceive as bitter. I hope you continue enjoying Shalimar.

  • APHRAEL12/10/2002

Actually,I know this Dimitri quite well,he is the cousin of one of my brothers in law.(That idiot didn't even bother with a screen name) His wife has been using Shalimar since before they even met,it is her signature scent, she has never considered switching for even a second.(Dmit' would probably hit the roof if she did!) Angelique is one of those people whose chemistry is the reason why Shalimar was created. On her,the fragrance is like nothing else in the world,it's hard to describe and totally out of this world (we should all be so lucky) It's all softness and depth, gentleness and intensity, manages to float everywhere yet stay subtle and intimate in a way that turns the whole thing shockingly erotic.I have never,in my life, met anyone else whose chemistry could transform this perfume like that.No wonder he lost his mind, when he met her!(has not regained it yet,by the way...)

  • LOLA12/08/2002

DO NOT BELIEVE THOSE PIGGISH, UNSCRUPULOUS ,SLIMY,SLEAZY SALESPEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They're lying, they're trying to make you pay much more,so that they can make a larger comission on your wallet. The scent is the same. The only change occurs with parfum VS Eau de toilette VS Eau de parfum, but if you are buying the parfum, (or perfume,or extract),the formula, oil concentration and therefore scent is the same. The only reason people buy the baccarat bottle are those who are perfume bottle collectors,or those who really want a collector's item to decorate their bathroom counter.

  • D.J.12/03/2002

the only perfume i ever get complimented on. it makes me feel very sexy and thats a feat.

  • NICK12/03/2002

I would like to know if there is a difference regarding scent when it comes to "Shalimar by Guerlain" and "Shalimar Baccarat by Guerlain." I assumed that the price difference was due to the limited edition classic baccarat bottle, but have been told otherwise in a couple of department stores in New York.

  • BETH12/03/2002

I know this is supposed to be a classic, but for the life of me, I can't figure out why. It is simply disgusting; just nasty.

  • SONIA12/03/2002

Ha-ha, Dimitri, what a nice "story". Should we believe you? The same as Carla in her message, I think that Shalimar is quite nice, high-quality perfume, but not very wearable these days. Why? I don't know. "Spirit of the time" (not only the "body chemistry") must have something with that!

  • DIMITRI11/26/2002

A long time ago,I was walking down the street when I was caught completely off guard by the bewitching scent of a beautiful woman in front of me.I was so enthralled that without thinking,I followed her. After about ten minutes she turned around to stare me down with a pair of the darkest, most expressive brown eyes I had ever seen before, and calmly asked me what I wanted.I told her that her perfume was the most beautiful thing I had ever smelled in my life and asked her to please tell me what it was.She wouldn't have been more shocked If I had insulted her in the crudest words! She flatly refused, explaining that a woman's fragrance is far too personal to just tell anyone,a total stranger at that! So I told her my name, and asked hers. But she only smiled, turned around and walked away! And without thinking,I followed her again, this time shamelessly begging her to tell me not only the name of her perfume, but her name as well. Then,I did something not only stupid as hell, but totally unforgivable: I only wanted her to look at me face to face and tell me,I never had any ill intentions toward her, but, desperate moron that I was,I grabbed her arm...and found myself face down on the pavement with a broken jaw and a dislocated shoulder in less than the blink of an eye!She then walked into a cafe to use the phone and call an ambulance, came back out,sat on the floor next to me to wait for the ambulance and told me that I was lucky:if she had thought for a second that I could be dangerous, she would have REALLY hurt me. And in her slightly accented, deeply melodious voice, she proceeded to tell me that I was rude, stupid, but thankfully very funny(??)She climbed in the ambulance with me,explaining in details to the E.M.Ts what she had done to me,naming with the accuracy of a surgeon each body part she thought had been affected. When we got there, the E.R staff took one look at me and started to laugh:I was a 3 year med student, there, and they all knew me.I was admitted overnight for observation, and the next morning, bright and early,SHE walked in,with a huge bouquet of flowers ,no less! She lowered her face to mine,(that perfume, again),and whispered:"It's Shalimar,my name is Angelique, and and I am very sorry." Three months later I married her, that was 20 years ago,she since then has given me two beautiful children who are as stubborn as me and look just like her and she has never worn anything but Shalimar, probably never will. I never write on sites like this but she has made my life so wonderful, I want to tell the whole world! Our anniversary is december 31,but the past 18 years have been a holiday everyday. SHALIMAR!!!

  • APHRAEL11/26/2002

This is precisely WHY fragrance will never cease to amaze me...I never heard of anyone before who could detect bitterness in Shalimar! After reading your post,I went to my bottle of Shalimar, and carefully inhaled it straight out of the bottle, on a card, and on my skin.I even buried my face in a scarf that I only wear when I have Shalimar on.And for the life of me I couldn't find any bitter notes in it!The closest thing I could think of would be the top notes,(VERY citrusy),but once the dry down has taken place,it's all softness from there...(at least for MY nose!)The floral heart is so broad-ranged it has an aromatic edge to it,although that may come from a trace amount of the top notes still threading through the rest of the composition...I find the base to be quite musky, but the balance between the hesperides, woods and florals mingled with very low pitch vanilla give it a hazy, fleeting yet penetrating touch that I find impossible to forget! But I'm sure there are many perfumes out there that others can't get enough of,and that just don't do anything for me!Perfume is so cool, you can never get the same exact effect on 2 people...

  • JASMINE11/21/2002

Yes, it is vanillic but not in the same way as the perfumes you've mentioned. I don't find it to be as sweet and there is a smokiness and bitterness to the vanilla in Shalimar.

  • JASMINE11/20/2002

I never thought much of it even though I go for this family of fragrances. For its time it may have been daring and different and the first of its kind but it smells chemical to me compared to the more modern orientals. I think fragrance chemistry has come a long way.

  • MAYA11/03/2002

I never wear the E.D.T,and I only use the E.D.P to scent fabrics like a pillow case,a scarf, the hemline of a skirt etc...On myself I use the entire line of bath products, and the parfum,in trace amounts only.I have noticed, though, that the diluted forms of Shalimar are different. They seem more "brittle", more "porous", (I'm REALLY trying to make sense, here!) and I find it more difficult to to get the full bodied effect that is so obvious in the parfum. The E.D.P, and especially the E.D.T are much sweeter, drier and not nearly as musky as the extract. The pervasive, lingering sillage (trail) in the full strength perfume is almost animalic in its intensity. But I find this effect to be lacking in the in the E.D.P and E.D.T.However,in terms of the scent itself,Shalimar is simply grand. There is nothing like it.Where Must is a ambery scent with a definite smoky quality, and Coco is another ambery formula with a strong leathery edge, Opium was clearly created with a spicy angle,Shalimar is the only oriental blend that I know of which seems to have it all.Spicy but well rounded, with sweetness that is perfectly balanced with deep hearted florals, and incense, leather and musk surrounded with just a hint of amber. And the backdrop of subtle woods is so light it is almost undetectable. This is a scent for the soul. The woman who wears it is intense, quietly passionate, with smoldering determination to achieve what she sets her heart to.I see her as deeply loving , devastatingly feminine, and terminally, hopelessly romantic...Yet I could picture her wiping the floor with anyone who would do her wrong! Shalimar smells very different from woman to woman because it really seeks out personal chemistry in the wearer. So,as luck would have it,if it doesn't agree with you,it will fight you and you will loose.Fragrance cannot be bossed around,it decides whether to accept or reject you,not the other way around.

  • APHRAEL10/31/2002

Indeed,if vanilla notes give you a headache, you'll want to skip this one.But I suggest that you make absolutely sure of what notes EXACTLY are upsetting to your system. Are you certain it's the vanilla?Because the fragrances you mentionned also contain a fair share of floral essences.Shalimar, although sweet and oriental,is rounder, fuller than, say,L'Heure Bleue or Must. It's because the middle notes are loaded with rose and jasmine, and the base is quite musky.I have to say I love it,it works quite well, for me.You will find an explosion of fresh citrus notes when you first put it on,then aheart of heady flowers will develop, and finally a sensual, powdery, musky base will give the composition a hazy, yet deep and intimate feel. Before you try, though, you might want to stock up on headache medicine, just in case .I hope this helps, good luck!

  • AUDREY10/30/2002

Is this one vanillic like Allure by Chanel,or Hypnotic Poison by Dior?Because those give hadache to me.

  • TIGRUSHKA10/22/2002

Thank you so much for your posting. Awesome reading!

  • APHRAEL10/21/2002

I agree with you.Shalimar, with its 1925 launching date,is not at all old fashioned, because emotions and the ability to stir them up are always timeless.Whenever I wear Shalimar,I constantly get very positive reactions from men of any age,but last year an incident happened that I will never forget: I was at work,(I worked with small kids in the morning, and teens in the afternoon),and a brand new 4 year old child was brought to my class. He was afraid because he did not speak english, couldn't communicate, and didn't know any other children in the room.He had never been away from his mother, and clearly had trouble dealing with the separation.I sat down on the floor, next to him, humming a children song and drawing a picture. The child grabbed a crayon, and came closer to me,and started to add to my drawing. He caught a whif of my scent,(Shalimar),inhaled deeply and climbed into my lap, where he stayed pretty much for the rest of the day. When it was time to leave, he ran back to me and stuck his little face in my neck, wanting to smell me one last time,so of course, I took off my scarf and gave it to him.You have no idea how many scarves I've parted with, that way! Then I had a lunch time staff meeting, and sat down in a crowded room, between my boss(a man of roughly the same age as me),and another male employee in is 50s. My boss started laughing, and said: Aphrael,if I keep on smelling you,I will forget what I'm supposed to say, make an ass of myself,do something that will cause you to slap me in front of 30 people,so let me sit next to the coffee maker,it's bound to be safer. The meeting went on smoothly, and afterwards,as I was getting ready to greet my afternoon teenagers, the older gentleman who had sat to my right during the meeting walked up to me.He was clearly all choked up,very emotional, and said:"There are no words to how good you smell. It goes right to my heart. It's so light, yet it's everywhere. It's unbelievable." Then he went back to his office without another word. My point is that in one day, there were 3 different people of very different ages who all reacted to my scent positively,so when I see all those posts talking about how "old fashioned" a perfume is,I just want to laugh.I was talking about that with a female friend, and she thinks that the old fashioned part is when someone assumes that one needs a trendy,"flash in the pan", "new" fragrance to feel stylish. I couldn't agree more.

  • TIGRUSHKA10/13/2002

This is possibly the most seductive scent ever! My husband loves it (but it just seems to attract males in general...) Powdery, lingering, classy come-hither scent.

  • DEBBIE10/09/2002

I tried Shalimar a couple years ago and fell in love. I am a perfume fanatic but I always come back to Shalimar and am making my way towards using it exclusively. I wear it everywhere and at anytime of day. I soak myself in the stuff. Shalimar is an old perfume having been introduced in 1925(i do believe) but it is not old-fashioned. It is for the mature of spirit-it is very, very sexy. It always makes me feel unihibited. I realized that Shalimar is WAY more than perfume. It is soooo hypnotic. And for the woman who said that Chanel no 5 was overrated-I could not agree more.

  • LOLA...AGAIN09/19/2002

I just thought you guys should know that my CAT looooves Shalimar... So I'm not sure if it's just my cat,or most cats, but everytime I wear it, she is all over me purring like a car engine. So to those who are allergic to cats, out there, use caution! Incidently,my husband loves it,too.

  • MAYA09/18/2002

On the right skin,in the right nose, Shalimar is still magical. But human chemistry and Murphy's law can be a real couple of bitches, sometimes. And every time that I put it on,I thank my lucky stars for being "Shalimar-compatible"...

  • JANE09/15/2002

    and Shalimar is classy.

  • APHRAEL09/13/2002

In the past,I,too, described Shalimar as a winter fragrance. This morning, for no reason that I can figure out, I decided to use it,even though the temperature has reached 84 degrees before noon.I used the scented soap in the shower, the body powder afterward, and then the tiniest drop on at the base of my neck. The result is very light, yet enveloping and lingering, warm and fresh at the same time, deep and penetrating but airy and fleeting all at once.Which reenforces the fact that less is definitely more,as always...

  • ANNIE09/11/2002

He rarely comments on scent, but this one he loves. The vanilla blooms on the skin. The body lotion is a rich indulgence in winter. A true classic. I see lots of younger women, as well as older ones, using Shalimar.

  • LOLA08/26/2002

Relax, put it away, and wait...'till the weather turns blustery, frigid peel the skin off your face cold and dry,THEN try it again. If it still doesn't rock you, then this blend is wrong for your chemistry (it's a bit like trying to find THE perfect pair of jeans or THE perfect shade of foundation.) Luckily, there are thousands of different perfumes out there... Good luck! P.S: It takes an average of three consecutive days of trying the same blend before your skin will decide whether to love it or reject it:)

  • FAYE08/10/2002

This is a bit of a shocker(sorry)! It's kinda *knock everyone dead* in a bad way scent --- reminds me someone I know who is overly tough and oppinionated.

  • SHARON ROSS08/05/2002

There is NOTHING around these days except synthetic junk! Shalimar will be around for YEARS!

  • LENUS08/03/2002

I always wanted to have Shalimar.Today I bought one and...I am so glad to see how many women Shalimar made happy:)) I also like Samsara,Chanel 19, L'Heurre Bleu and Organza

  • JUSTINE07/26/2002

This may have been the rage of years ago, but it's time has come and went. Wear to much of this and you'll smell like a brothel. Move on ladies...

  • BRENT07/01/2002

My ex-wife wore this for years. She was one classy lady. Always smelled good. I can still smell her. Very sexy smell.

  • BETTE06/12/2002

It has been around as long as it has for a reason. This fragrance is timeless.

  • BETHANY06/12/2002

I always thought that this was a heavy "old lady" type fragrance until I tried it (put a small amount on as advised). This is good stuff. Probably all depends on body chemistry as usual-but I was happily surprised. Thanks to those on this board who recommended it.

  • CARMEN04/26/2002

im using shalimar since iwas 15

  • ELISHA 04/16/2002

I love this perfume. Its so wierd, I used to hate this fragrance, until I smelled it again in a department store and I fell in love with its awesome aroma. Now whn I wear I always get compliments. I guess my sense of smell has changed. I am now almost 24 and have been wearing it since I was 20. Also who in here said that it takes a certain chenistry to wear it is correct. Bye all!!

  • CARLA04/02/2002

Old fashioned but nice, not very wearable in my opinion. i am a bit surprised it seems still very populair in the states and france

  • TRAV03/29/2002

This is my favorite "classic" ladies' perfume. It is so sexy & spicy, and I don't find it old fashioned at all. I would liken this to a fine business suit, in other words it's probably not the best for casual wear. The cooler scents are usually better for casual use. I think it's great that it's strong, that only means you use less and get more for your money! At least it lasts. Some people get in this negative mindset about older scents and miss out on some great ones. I find that Shalimar smells very modern and contemporary, if it came out today I don't think anyone would think it smells "old". I don't feel the same way about Chanel #5 however, I think it smells VERY old-fashioned and it is in my opinion very overrated. If I'm not mistaken, I believe Shalimar is even older than #5. This scent is truly timeless, and it shouldn't make the least bit of difference that it's about years old. It's like fine wine, it's improved with age. One of the most beautiful and classy scents out there, this is the epitome of good taste.

  • ELISHA03/15/2002

I agree with you the the new shalimar bottle is not as pretty.

  • NICOLE03/13/2002

I elected Shalimar my best winter perfume. It's amazing, that top citrus, animal note and that lingering vanilla scent. The bottle is just beautiful, I mean the original one. I like the new bottle less. I used to be reluctant to "vanilla scents" but I realize it's because I smelled cheap ones like Coty.

  • LAURA03/07/2002

Shalimar was the very first perfume I chose for myself. I used to wear it all the time when I was in high school; now I reserve it for special occasions. It's so romantic and all-enveloping when I put it on that it's just not something I could wear every day. I think it's soft and seductive and I wear it when I want to feel especially feminine. I think it might be the epitome of all great, classic perfumes.

  • DEMELZA02/26/2002

...and Shalimar is the Spice of Death. For those who enjoy mainlining incense oil.

  • CAROLINE02/21/2002

Shalimar is among my many favorites. I think of it as one of those fragrances you wear when you want to have high-brow attitude complete with a big brimmed black hat, a mid-length sleeveless black dress, moc crock pumps and tortise shell sunglasses. (Ala Holly Golightly!)

  • TATIANA02/17/2002

This is my favorite perfume. It's reactive. Sometimes it smells a bit heavy on me when I'm tired, but most of times it's heaven.

  • MAGGIEMAE02/17/2002

Would never buy Shalimar as it's too strong and overdone by everybody who wears it.

  • SERENA01/25/2002

I love Shalimar. It is the ultimate femminine fragrance, starting off very fresh with bergamot top notes and drying down to a heavenly powdery musk. My mom wore Shalimar when I was a kid, and every time I smell it I think of her.

  • MARGO01/24/2002

i was wearing it 32 years ago when i met my husband- he still will not allow me to wear another fragrance.

  • AMY C01/21/2002

Love it, from top notes to dry-down. Elegant & compelling. I would never buy it in a spray bottle, though--a little goes a long way!

  • CARY GREENE12/30/2001

A deep rich treasure from the long forgotten Orient. A scent you might envision floating from inside a caravan tent in the far east as the pipers play under the moonlit sky. Shalimar is bold, reacive to ones skin and very, very deep. An Ocean of layers in fact. Truely a classic fragrance, not for everyone though. If you're frumpy or conservative this one is not for you. For those that dress with sex appeal and pizzaz, Shalimar yours to exploit. I feel this perfume is on my top 5 list. As always, wear what suits you best and be well........

  • Z12/16/2001

    Coco Mademoiselle is the bomb!

  • CYNTHIA12/09/2001

Pretty feminine scent. Sweet, and nostalgic.

  • ANTONIO12/09/2001

I don't know about this one. Some women at work wear Shalimar and I can't stand the way they smell. It's too bitter, strong and un-feminine for my tastes. I had to get a bottle for my daughter for Christmas, unfortunately. She knows it bothers me, so she only wears it when she's away for college. Thank goodness.

  • AMY12/06/2001

Takes a little getting used to, especially if you normally go for more delicate scents. My husband can't stand it -- says it's much too spicy-smelling.

  • JOANNA11/28/2001

I've been wearing it since I was 19 and it has always driven guys wild! I also noticed that while I was house shopping with my husband (we looked in about two hundred homes before making a decision!), more women had Shalimar on their dresser than any other fragrance. Shalimar is also the most "mentioned" fragrance in movies and on TV. I first became interested in it because it was a gift given to young Bess Armstrong by her 'older man' paramour in one of my favorite films, Alan Alda's "The Four Seasons". It was also mentioned as being worn by 'Jill' on the TV show "Home Improvement" during her first sexy slow dance in the 1970's with her 'husband', Tim Allen. A bottle is sitting on Morgan Fairchild's dresser in the movie "Seduction". Jaqueline Bisset wears it in "The Memphisto Waltz". Sigourney Weaver chooses it in "Working Girl". Joan Severance wears it in "See No Evil, Hear No Evil". It's mentioned in super-groupie Pamela Des Barres' book as being her favorite fragrance (she wore it while making out with Mick Jagger, Jim Morrison, Don Johnson, Jimmy Page and more). And that's just a few I can remember quick!

  • EDEN11/23/2001

I love Shalimar. You can never go wrong wearing this one.

  • MARGO11/21/2001

To me, Shalimar alway's seemed mysterious. My mother wore it when she was dating and then when I grew up so did I--Men absolutely go wild over it!

  • SHERON10/25/2001

Shalimar is the best smell. I always have someone saying that I smell good. I was in a crowd of people one day and I heard someone say wow! someone sure smells good. I did not say anything til she walk up to me and ask what I was wearing.Long into the day I can still smell it on my wrist. Try it at the department stores as a sample bet you go back and buy some.

  • KATHY MCKAY10/16/2001

Its the only perfume I use!

  • KATHY MCKAY10/16/2001

Shalimar bath soap is the most fragrant soap I have ever used!

  • VIKI09/18/2001

First rate and timeless perfume. But very heavy. For some women it's OK, for some not. I completely agree with Karina. I think it's a wonderful perfume, but I can't wear it.

  • MAGGIE09/03/2001

I have to agree with Alison and Mary. Shalimar is a wonderful classic fragrance. I also prefer vintage scents. The "new ones" are all the same. You smell one, you smelled them all. And if wearing Shalimar makes me old, well, that just proves that with age comes wisdom. Another favorite Guerlain "oldie" is Mitsouko. I wore it for years and always got compliments on it.

  • MARY09/03/2001

I've worn Shalimar since I was 17 years old. I'm now 46. My family loves the way I smell even though my girls 18 and 21 don't wear it. It has lots of memories for them and its the only perfume my husband likes.

  • ALISON08/25/2001

Shalimar isn't too old. Just because a fragrance wasn't released in the last five years does not mean it automatically sucks. Some of us happen to appreciate older fragrances. We like the vintage scent. Can you see it that way at all?

  • CATARINA08/24/2001

So heavy and old! I don't think my grandma would wear this anymore...

  • JOLENE07/29/2001

I love Shalimar by Guerlain! It's no wonder that it's been a best-selling fragrance for about 75 years now. The scent is very distinctive. It goes on citrusy, then has powdery, Oriental dry-down. Gorgeous perfume & elegant art-deco bottle! Shalimar is strictly first rate!

  • ELISHA07/20/2001

Ok then get it at Rite Aid.

  • TAYA07/11/2001

Does anyone remember those rad tv commercials for Shalimar that ran years ago? (80's maybe?) They were awesome and captured the true essence of the fragrance's persona. There was a beautiful flapper in a mansion I believe, and a gorgeous classical (Chopin?) piano background accompaniment. Incredible...

  • ELISHA07/09/2001

I agree with you 100% I love Shalimar and Lheure Bleue they are awesome fragrnaces

  • KARINA07/08/2001

In my opinion, Guerlain is probably the best perfume house in the world-everything they've made is a true classic. Shalimar, (along with L'Heure Bleue) is among my favorites from them. It's a fragrance with an incredible warmth to it-makes me feel like I'm wrapped in a cashmere sweater when I wear it. It's a true powdery Oriental, but incredibly soft, without any of the "bite" of some Oriental fragrances. It's such an intriguing mix of scents-at first, there is a lovely lemony quality to it, which soon dries down to a sensual, woody fragrance, with a strong vanilla note- a beautiful, true "dry" vanilla, not at all the sickly-sweet cheap vanilla used in alot of other perfumes. One thing to keep in mind: Shalimar (Chanel #5 is another example of this) is the kind of scent that, for whatever reason, just doesn't smell right on everyone. Women tend to love it or hate it-it's definitely a matter of having the right chemistry for the fragrance. But on those who can wear it well, it's heaven!

  • RUBY07/07/2001

smells a bit overwhelming and powdery to me, although i know it's popular. i guess it's an older fragrance. i prefer samsara.

  • ROBBIE07/03/2001

Does anyone know how to obtain the Shalimar bath oil?

  • GLORIA07/01/2001

Thats funny, Its the only fragrance I have worn since 1960 and I often have men ask me if thats shalimar I'm wearing. I love it and everyone close to me knows not to buy me anything else.

  • ANN HUDSON06/28/2001

Shalimar has been my fragrance of choice since 1960. It is the only fragrance I use. To this day people continue to ask what fragrance I'm wearing. I use all the products. When I receive it as a gift the person is sending the message that they truly know me.

  • ELISHA05/09/2001

I love this scent, it is sweet, and powdery. Very beautiful smelling. Its a classic by Guerlain

  • SHERRY04/03/2001

I'm interested in finding Shalimar without the spray, it seems that I can control the amount used much better and it lasts longer. Do you still make it that way and where can I find it in the Greensboro, N.C. area? Thanks, Sherry!
