Gendarme is nice and light and it smells like tanning lotion, however it doesn't last. I ordered the perfume instead which is much better.

Gendarme has the same scent of the bubble bath I used as a kid. It's nothing special to me.

I have used Gendarme for over 10 years. The only problem I find in ordering from Perfume Emporium is sometimes the spray nossel doesn't work and I have to take off the spray top to get to the cologne. Other than that, I love the product.

This is truly one of the best clean scents out there! It is sold in the mens department but it is a uni-sex fragrance. Yes, women wear this too! It is neither a masculine or feminine scent. Regardless if worn by a man or woman it is truly an easy going, yet somewhat energetic scent that is definitely pleasant to be around. Men will love you for wearing it! :)

There is no other! Take it from me....this is 'the one" that will do it for you. It smells clean, shower fresh, and SEXY! Those strong scents out there give me a headache. It's not for you to smell on you; but rather for others to smell in the breeze as you walk by. This one leaves and alluring behind you....in the house and every where you go. Yes, Gendarme is a subtle cologne. It's meant to not offend. What I have learned is that even though I can't smell it on myself after a couple of hours, others will still notice it on me. Not from 20 feet across the room, but when I've walked by I've had people comment on it. I find it's also good for romantic evenings. I've had girls want to get closer to me once they get a whiff of it.

Just bought his cologne a week ago, due to people praising it on here. It smells good, but the scent is so weak. I haven't even gotten a single compliment on it at work since wore it. I can hardly smell it when i put it on, i can't even imagine how people can smell it. It's weak. Weird. Maybe it's just me. Deffinatelly a scent that's not offensive at work, because you can hardly smell it. Would never wear it for a night out.

thanks for the recommendations. I've owned both KC's 1st and BPH when 1st came out. Loved BPH but as with many other wearers, had that burning cigarette smell on the skin. Haven't smell nightflight since the 90s but may re-acquaint my nose with it. Read good reviews about Geir and would have to make blind purchase cause not sold anywhere where I live but heard it smells alot like Allure Sport. Again thanks!

If it's a "clean" scent you seek then I would recommend Bvlgari Pour Homme, Geir, Nightflight, and KC's 1st..............just some examples. Not sure if you came across the Le Male Summer Frag. board but check it out sometime. Take care

Felt the need to finally post my review of Gendarme. Sorry if it's lengthy but I must tell it all! Blind purchased this fragrance 2 years ago based completely on reviews on this board. Received my package in mail, smelled it and really liked it because it smelled like no other cologne ever created but kept saying i've smelled this scent somewhere else? Anyway I must say I never got a "favorable" compliment when I wore it which was about 3 months. I got comments all the time like "u smell like a baby" or "what kind of detergent do u use"? No kidding! Over and over! The one slightly favorable comment I got was from female i was dating that said she could still smell my cologne like 15+ hours later. Got rid of it and gave it to my mother. Now the pros to Gendarme-This is one of the best "made" fragrances ever created. You spray it on your skin and it does not run. Very oily, Very thick. It lasts 24+hrs. on the skin and 2 weeks on your clothes! In fact, it lasted till my next shower and then some. Will not offend and will not induce sneezing! 100% original clean scented cologne. Just before I gave it away I realized where I had smelled the scent before- 1970s Pro-line Afro sheen!

This is probably the best smelling men's fragrance out there, but I am not sure of hypoallergic stuff, because it can give you a headache so try it first.

This scent blew me away when I first smelled it. I kept smelling my wrist all day. It smells so clean, like soap. I could even see a woman wearing this and me liking it on her too. Also, one small spray last all day. I can even smell it the next day after a shower! It has alot more oil in it than other colognes. Excellent stuff!

A great scent if all you have to choose from is whatever's behind the counter at the mall. Oherwise appallingly average. Vitrues? Inoffensive, has a cool name that sounds "old school" (it isn't--try Versace L'homme, Gentleman by Givenchy or Lui by Rochas) and is still hip/'modern'. How could it not be? I mean it is at the mall , right? (sigh)

A nice crisp, clean and invigorating experience that's nicely priced as opposed to CLEAN men and a good alternative to Bvlgari Pour Homme.......Grabazzi is also another of Gendarme's great ones for those unaware.

This fragrance for men smells so clean and fresh, however I've worn it for years and I'm a woman. The interesting thing is that men are drawn to the scent so strongly; the number of times I've been stopped by men to ask what cologne I'm wearing is nothing short of amazing. The company is also the best, I've written them many times and heard from them each time. I highly recommend this scent even though I'd like to keep it my own secret.

I live in Florida so a fresh clean scent unlike all of the others on the market, it necessary in this heat. I read that Sharon Stone loved this scent, and not seeing it anywhere, I had to try it. Totally unique in fragrance and simply the freshest, best cologne any young man can wear. It seduces both men and women and they don't know what's happening to them. Gendarme is a masterpiece fragrance. There is nothing on the market that smells like it. Clean trys to immitate Gendarme but falls short by a mile. This one will get you a lot of compliments and while you cant detect it on yourself after a while, others will. It has Glycerin in it which actually locks the fragrance onto your skin. Couple that with 12% fragrance oil and you have an incredibly long lasting scent. Watch for a new fragrance from Gendarme in September called 20...(courtesy Gendarme website)

I recant my previous statement. I posted my first statement after sampling this fragrance from sephora. I just recieved a sample direct from the parent company and WOW!!! This scent is masterfully blended. Something magical happens when it warms up on your skin. I apllied the sample yesterday and the scent lingers today! Something is wrong with other fragrances if you still notice it on yourself which means its not in harmony with your olfaction. I felt the need to give credit where it is due as now I shall be inducted in to the family of Gendarme faithfuls!

I won't let my husband wear anything else! This is the best...subtle--not overpowering like so many others

This is without a doubt the best cologne on the market. I have worn Creed and all the high priced others, but nothing compares to the fresh, clean and natural smell of Gendarme.

I discovered a very nice green scent by Hermes called Mediterreanee. It is expensive but well worth the buy. If you sample this, let me know what you think. Take care!

Lee..please note that Gendarme scents fade quickly to the person who wears it...but others will notice it. There is an extreme version coming out within the next year.

Unique scent, but the aroma fades quickly. There is supposed to be a newer formila containing more perfume and less alcohol.

Brad, Thanks for the reply. Gendarme V is called an EDC but actually it contains 15% fragrance oil which is equaled to an EDP. What it is called and what is actually is are two different things. it has a nice clean green smell that will get you lots of compliments. Take care!

Hi Nick, thanks for the reply! I caution about buying Gendame V for 2 reasons. 1. It is an EDC which is weaker than an EDT. 2. I am not sure that I like the vertiver type of green. I like the true green smell like in the original paul smith. I am just looking for more refinement. Guess I will have to stick with creed. Any reccommendations are welcomed!

Thanks for the reply nick! I checked the gendarme website and I would not consider the gendarme V for two reasons. 1. The concentration is EDC which is weaker than EDT. and 2. I am not sure vevtiver is the type of green I am looking for. The closest a designer has came to making that perfect "green" smell is the origianl paul smith. However, I am still looking for more refinement in the sense that the green is not just in the top note but will prevail throughout. If you have any advice. please comment. Thanks!

I personally love Gendarme and always get that "Wow what is that your wearing, you smell so clean". If you are looking for a warmer greener version as you say...look into Gendarme V. It is heavier with a touch of vetiver. It was made for the person who wanted something stronger than Gendarme. These fragrances are one the best out there!!

I was not impressed with the jasmine-leather combination. It is light and clean smelling but nothing to make me say "Wow, what is that". This is clearly my opinion and not meant to affend the faithful of this fragrance. It would be nice if the scent was warmed up and a little more green. It just didn't smell the slightest bit masculine. In a way, it reminds of the Rain candles in pier one.

This is just about all I wear. Truly the cleanest, most non-offensive scent around. This is really a classic. I've been complimented on it - which to me, is a great indication that something is working for ya. Gendarme makes a great after shave balm as well ... the body wash/shampoo is very refreshing. Awesome scent!

This one fine scent indeed. It's not heavy and is great for evening wear as well as day wear. The scent fades rather quickly but as already mentioned it's still there. A person must get close to you to smell it. To Katie...I still don't come across too many men wearing Gendarme, so I would assume the secret is still safe.

What did they do to this great fragrance? I recently ran out of the 1st bottle I was given so I ran to Sephora but to my surprise the fragrance doesn't smell the same, it is like too much alcohol and the bottle is a little bigger than the original and I tried several different ones but none matched the original smell. As someone asked, did they change the formula of Gendarme?

I love Gendarme. There have been some complaints that the scent fades quickly, which isn't exactly true. I put some on in the morning and went out the same evening with a girl (without reapplying) and she told me I smelled great. But I myself could barely smell it on me. I don't recommend wearing Gendarme to a hot smokey nightclub but for an intimate evening with your lady it's perfect. She'll want to sniff your neck all night with some Gendarme on it. And it's not all that bad for office wear either.

Strange, funky ... it has an odd tonic-like smell that kinda overwhelms you. Different, but in my opinion, nasty. This just doesn't smell like a cologne - smells like a disinfectant they use in a hospital. I can see where one might think it has a "fresh and clean" smell, but that nasty tonic-like smell is overwhelming to the nose. I bought this and then returned it ... didn't work for me at all.

No Nick, the juice from Sephora was clear and the drydown smelled excellent. What I'm say is that the logo that the bottle had(the little tail) was at the bottom of the bottle similar to the picture that is shown here on perfumeemporium. On the other hand the bottled I received directly from gendarme has the logo on top just below the word Gendarme and it smells kind of different specially on the drydown and not from what I remember it from Sephora. I prefer the Gendarme from Sephora bottles which seem to be a little 'aged' but smell much better on the drydown. That's why I'm inquiring since they have different bottle designs and different drydown, was the formula changed?

Tom, I read your post about Gendarme smelling different. You say the bottle at sephora and yours looks different. Was the one at sephora a yellowish color? If so that was a bottle gone bad. The formula hasn't been changed and Gendarme smells amazing as usual.

I can't say this is a weak fragrance. It's very very potent and strong. I have to be careful how much to put on. It smells pretty good though.

I sampled this at Sephora about 2 months ago and the drydown was really the best, sensual and fresh. My sister gave it to me last week as a gift and she got it directly from Gendarme.com but it smells differently specially on the drydown this one smells good and fresh but not as sensual as when I tried it at Sephora. By the way I'm talking about Gendarme NOT Gendarme V which I have also smelled. Could it be that the formula has been modified or could it be that because it's a new bottle, it hasn't really developed? I also noticed that the bottle I have and the bottle from Sephora look different. Any comments, anyone else experiencing this?

yes it's true, women really love this scent it because it's not hyper masculine. no machismo, but still definitely sensual. It has a sensitive, sexy, smart, gentlemanly scent. for someone who doesn't like to appear flashy or sleazy but still wants to be noticed for their sex appeal (by boys and girls). The only problem is you have to bathe in it, and that can get pricey. It lasts for maybe 2 hours tops. I still wear it. It's been 5 years. I don't give the secret away to anyone. except maybe you!

Gendarme is in a class of its own. There's nothing like it. ITs light but very noticeable. Makes you feel like a million bucks. If you want something warmer try the Gendarme V. It's a sweeter version of Gendarme that is very unique. These are fragrances on your "Can't go wrong list".

Gendarme is the finest men's fragrance I have ever used. It has a classy, cool, clean, masculine scent that does not overpower or smell too "perfumey". My only complaint is that I cannot find it at any of the stores where I shop. I have missed it!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

This light scent lasts a long time and is very classy. Woman always compliment me on how this scent smells sexy and sophisicated. If you want to make a great second impression wear Gendarme V. This fragrance is heavier and greener than the original. People pay atttention to it because it's so unique. If you want woman to turn their heads and look at you like your steak...wear Grabazzi. This scent is spicy at first but drys down to a very sensual scent that ladies notice immediately. Trust me...buy these products!

Gendarme colognes fade fast to the person who wears them...but others will notice the fragrance on you many hours after you've sprayed it. USe 6-10 sprays of Gendarme or Gendarme V...and watch the magic happen. If you want your nose to perceive it longer use the balm....bath and body oil or body shampoo..then spray the fragrance over it. Gendarme products are my favorite and I cannot tell you how many girls love these fragrances. Hope this helps!

Absolutely gorgeous. I have been wearing Gendarme for a long time and have tried alot of colognes since then, nothing comes close to Gendarme. Try it. If you don't like it. Try and Try again. It's good and great for your confidence.

Aaron and Alissa...must have received a bad bottles of Gendarme. Gendarme turns yellowish when the fragrance has gone rancid. It must be kept in a cool dark place or it WILL smell like dirty socks. Gendarme is truly in a class of its own.

I think Gendarme is highly overrated and I cannot understand what all the hype is about. The fragrance itself is so weak and insipid that you can barely smell it. As for this big idea that only this fragrance can blend with the wearers 'musk' I would suggest that all fragrances do this!!.

I usually hate men's colognes...they all smell very similar...sort of sagey. I discovered gendarme when a gentlemen coworker wore it several years ago and inquired about it. It smells like a fresh man out of the shower! Love it!
