I wore this in my teens, and while the notes I liked are still there, they are overpowered by the musky cologne side of the perfume. Not sure if the fragrance has gone off, has changed since I was a girl, or I simply got older and my tastes more expensive :-/

I am lost without my "scent". Been a follower for many years. Love my California!

  • MARYBETH05/02/2009

You probably didn't get this - there is another California men's cologne, which someone accidentally gave me when I requested this perfume. It sure isn't the same!

This is my favoriate pefume and I have been wearing it since it was made my grandchildren say that I smell like their nana when they hug me, because I have been wearing it since they were small now they are teenagers. I love this perfume

This is a really lovely scent. I did notice that the scent changed over time once I opened the bottle--but at such a low price, who minds buying a fresh one!

  • MOMARAMA12/06/2005

Why is it so hard to find??? Are they discontiuing it?? I've been wearing it since it came on the market. What do I wear when there is no more????

Ive used alot of designer perfumes through the years that dont come close to being this good! I still cant get over the fact that the cheapies always smell the best! I went out and bought this yesterday and I havent wore this since I was in the 10th grade! This was my taste in perfume at that age and it is again now at age 30!

California is an inexpensive perfume that will definitely get you noticed! It is the ONLY fragrance I wore throughout the 90's and I always received TONS of compliments on it, both from men and women! Although it is no longer my "signature scent", I still love it and wear it on occassion and when I do, I still receive compliments on it. It is a soft and sensual fragrance and lasts a very long time. To me, it smells very similar to "Dune", but that might just be the way my body chemistry reacts with each of those fragrances and they may not smell similar on everyone.

"CALIFORNIA is classified as a luxurious, gentle, floral fragrance." Can this be true? Did they change the formula for this fragrance since I wore it back in 1995? This is one of my least favorite fragrances, and one that I actually wore in middle school. I'm surprised that other reviewers have called it "soft and floral," because on me it smelled harsh, like cleaning products. I remember opening a bottle and having one of my classmates smell it, and he pulled back in disgust, saying it smelled like men's cologne. I dunno... maybe they have changed it.

I have worn this perfume since it came out in 1989. I have many allergies and this is the only one I can wear. It lasts forever and not a day goes by that someone doesn't remark about how great it smells. Thank You !

  • SHARON02/02/2004

I have worn this fragrance for a very long time. I have, without question, received more compliments, from both men and women, and questions about what I am wearing then any other fragrance I wear, regardless of cost. I wear it every day to work and it lasts without being too strong.

Is there a main Jaclyn Smith company that manufacturers this- or is it all made by Dana co.? maybe they are diff. perfumes???

  • CAROL07/19/2003

I purchased every bottle of California Body Lotion that I could find several years. I'm running out. Is this still available? It's a wonderful fragrance.

  • LUANNE07/08/2003

I love this perfume, it reminds me of a perfume I wore in the 1960's called 'Tweed'. So glad it has come back again.

  • FLORENCE03/03/2003

I have worn California for many years, and now have a hard time finding it. It was originally found at K-Mart and they are slowly disappearing. I get so many compliments when I wear it and was so disappointed when I couldn't find it anymore. I am glad I found your website so I could get it again.

  • HONEYB02/01/2003

I've worn California for years, ever since it came out. I ALWAYS get compliments on the fragrance and people are forever asking me what I'm wearing. I've worn the more expensive perfumes and didn't get the compliments that I do with California. Of course, keep in mind that a fragrance blends with each person's chemistry and the scent will differ from person to person. Personally, I LOVE IT!!

  • CINDY01/28/2003

I don't think that it smells floral, I found this perfume years ago and have not worn anything else since!! I couldn't find it for a while, now it is back!

  • YBW01/28/2003

Stetson cologne I got this in the spary can and that is exactly what it smells of I hate it but if you like Stetson on your guy (I didn't) you will like this one for you perhaps they make nice companions .take care

  • VALERIE12/04/2002

California made a body lotion that was so great what ever happened to it Francis@oregoncoast .com

  • CINDY08/30/2002

Jacqlyn Smith was one of the original Charlie's Angels. The fragrance smells like a wonderful, floral perfume.

  • ANN-MARIE08/02/2002

After reading that California won a fragrance contest I was surprised to see it so inexpensive. I purchased this light, pretty, every-day type of perfume and have been wearing it as an occasional daytime scent ever since. I have always wondered why it never became more popular; or why they never made a shower gel, dusting powder, or deodorent. It is the same type fragrance as Happy.

  • ALLISON07/26/2002

Who is Jaclyn Smith? What does this smell like?

  • MARION05/26/2002

I live in Peterborough in the U.k how can I purchase California?

  • MARION05/26/2002

My daughter bought me california about 1991 and I have been trying to find it ever since. I'm so glad I have.

  • STEPHANIE03/31/2002

I think this is very French-smelling! Kind of in the spirit of Bal-a-Versaille. They should've called it Alsace or Grasse or something like that instead of California!
