When I was 15 my grandmother went to Paris and brought me home a small bottle of 'shocking'. Imagine my surprise 50 years later walking into a house in Cazenovia, NY and smelling my fragrance...A favorite older friend also considered Shocking 'her' fragrance....She was closer to me than my own Mother!

I,VE BEEN TRYING TO FIND SHOCKING/SCHIAPARELLI FOR TWENTY YEARS OR MORE LIKE THIRTY YEARS. PLEASE COME BACK.

  • HANNAH02/03/2010

I searched for Shocking (and Shocking You) for 30 years ... glorious, heavenly perfumes... Interestingly, I found a Jean Paul Gaultier limited edition of Shocking, purchased in Harrods, London. JPG's version looks the same packaging-wise, but is very different - hyacinth heavy top notes ... My sense of smell has changed with age, and of the two versions I now slightly prefer the JPG version. However, the 'holy grail' is to find "Shocking You" which was a 'younger' version: I remember the aldehyde top notes underscored with rivetingly sexy 'patchouli' (whereas, in the raw, I always loathed patchouli!)

I just posted, but almost forgot - the original torso shaped bottle was designed by Salvador Dali, and is supposed to represent a dress-makers dummy. I believe he suggested the name 'shocking pink' to Ms. Schiaparelli, and the name stuck for that color.

I have it on good authority (the Perfume House in Portland, OR - the owner trained by the top perfume houses in France, and considered one of the handful of true 'noses' by them) that Shocking is not being manufactured at the moment. It is, however, considered one of the 100 'classic' scents by true perfumers, so write to Schiaparelli so they produce it again! Unique and beautiful, if it works with your body chemistry it is a lucky thing. I'm trying to find it myself, and am looking online rather than the Perfume House. I've had more compliments on Shocking than any other perfume I've every tried.

I HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR "SHOCKING!," de Schiaparelli, FOR FIFTY YEARS--ever since my AUnt Lee bought me a HUGE bottle of the "SPLASH" COLOGNE--that was (ALMOST) BIGGER THAN I was(!!!!).It is (ANOTHER ONE OF) THOSE "NOSTALGIC" Fragrances, that BRING BACK MEMORIES OF (HAPPIER) DAYS, GONE BY.(EVEN THOUGH I HAVE NOT SMELLED IT FOR YEARS--THE FRAGRANCE "STAYED IN MY NOSE"--ALL THESE YEARS(THE MARK, I THINK, OF A TRUE "CLASSIC" FRAGRANCE.(TRES Francais,SOPHISTICATED, "ELEGAHNTE"--AND TOTALLY DECADENT--(ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR THE FAINT-OF-HEART--and ABSOLUTELY NOT FOR THE "BABY-GIRLS". ONLY "REAL WOMEN" can wear this.

  • WORDPERSON04/20/2005

Does anyone know if Shocking by Schiaparelli is the same fragrance I found in Paris in the mid to late 70s called Shocking You by Schiaparelli? It was a fabulous fragrance. Very sexy and notable. Would love to know if this is the reall stuff. Thanks for any help.

Have to lower my earlier rating one step. Smells good from the bottle, roses and vanilla, but on me - ugh.

  • JANN10/10/2004

Could someone please describe the notes in this perfume. Is it real sweet? Appreciate your help.

  • M10/09/2004

..but there is some notes in it that reminds of an old lady. That is not unusual when it comes to fragrances from the 20ies and 30ies etc but as this one was reintroduced in 1997 I thought that they had reorcestrated it in a more modern way, and maybe they have..

  • PATTI06/08/2004

This is the first perfume my dad bought for my mom in the 50's. She always spoke of it and I finally located it at Boyd's on Madison Avenue in New York City. Mom was thrilled. I sprayed it on the other evening and when my husband walked by me, he asked what that wonderful fragrance was. A true classic. Also, very sentimental to me.

  • GIULIA PRATICÒ VIVARELLI06/01/2004

It's simply a wonderful fragrance, wore by the greatest painter in the world: Firda Kahlo.

  • JAG10/20/2003

So unlike this era's fragrances. It has warmth and depth; long-lasting but not overpowering. It is an enigmatic fragrance and is everything I love in a perfume.

  • ROBBIE BISHOP07/02/2003
