What was Hanae Mori thinking when she put Haute Couture in the same bottle as the original Hanae Mori? And yes, the original is NOT called Butterfly - it's simply Hanae Mori. Wish they had created a different bottle for Haute Couture, sheesh!! I'll be trying this one soon, but florals aren't my favorite, so I probably won't care for it. Love the original Hanae Mori, though...it's sweet, but the woods add sophistication. Smoooooth and yummy.

I bought this one based on the reviews, and I just could not get to like it. On me it was pungent or something really not nice. I ended up giving my bottle away to my mother in law. She seemed to like it.

I think I use descriptions, and people's personal opinions about perfumes to make my own purchases too much. Even when I do try before I buy the popular scents that people recommend, nine times out of ten I don't like it. Most people love Hanai Mori, but when I wore it, it smelled like a dry sherry mixed with a bug spray. Of course it's my body chemistry, but I just don't understand why me?

Everyone that is looking for the right Hanae Mori to buy after they have tried the sample spray (one person stated it is eau de toilette)... if it is eau de toilette it would be Hanae Mori (the one with the pink butterfly on it). Hanae Mori has two fragrances for women...Hanae Mori (which comes in 4 strengths that are: parfum (the one with the red butterfly on it); eau de parfum (blue butterfly); eau de toilette (pink butterfly); eau fraiche (yellow butterfly...weakest strength) and Hanae Mori Haute Couture.

Why does it have to be me - that can't like Haute Couture? Based on the reviews here, I bought the EDT, lotion, & shower gel without trying it and woe is me...I can't bring myself to like it! I don't totally abhor it but there's a note in it that reminds me, believe it or not, of toothache drops!

I fell in love with this scent immediately and continue to recieve compliments from all who are close to me.

I also got a sample and so glad to find this board to clarify! Thank you. I received the sample when traveling in Chicago, so no one here in Memphis even sells it. This is the first fragrance in years that has me totally spellbound. Love it!

i think most of the readers on this page are getting the two fragrances mixed up... hanae mori has two fragrances... and they are called: hanae mori (with different color butterflies to indicate strength of the scent... and this perfume is NOT called butterfly...) and haute couture.... which this page is for... if you received a sample of white tube that just says hanae mori, then that is what it is... simply... hanae mori....

The name of the fragrance is simply HANAE MORI. Evryone calls it butterfly just because of the butterflys from the box and bottle. Hanae Mori has to fragrances for women. Hanae Mori and Haute Cuture!!!!!

Are we sure the sample would just say Hanae Mori if it is the Butterfly? I want to get some too. Maybe take the sample to Saks or Nordstrom and see what the counter person says? It is a combo of light scent and rich woodsey scent, which sounds weird I guess, but that is what it seemed like to me. It says it's for evening wear, but it isn't so heavy you couldn't wear it during the day and I don't think of it as a seasonal scent either. I could see it being worn all year round. Does anyone agree?

Ali & Darlene ~ I've had the same dilemma trying to figure the fragrance of the small white-tubed Hanae Mori sample! I called Sephora (where I was given the sample) and they confirmed that the fragrance is "Butterfly". Hope that helps! It's yummy, isn't it? Cheers!

Like Darlene - I got a sample in a white tube, it just said Hanar Mori - Eau de Toilette - is that butterfly or Couture..My husband loves it and I want to buy the right one..

Darlene, I believe that would be the Hanae Mori Pink or eau de toilette.

I just posted this on the Hanae Mori Butterfly site. From what I have been able to ascertain, Red is the parfum, Blue is the eau de parfum, pink is the eau de toilette and yellow is the eau de fraiche. The order is strongest to weakest. I have not tried the Haute Couture, but I think it is a totally different fragrance from the Butterflies.

Could someone explain the difference in yellow, pink and blue butterfly's and the haute couture, other than the obvious cost?

Is Haute Couture an appropriate frangrance for a 21 year old?

The couture is a very heavy floral(reminds me of Must II de cartier). Butterfly is more edible notes(smells like strawberries and cream with sandalwood base) I hope this helps.

I received a sample of Hanae Mori by Hanae Mori. It was white. Can you tell me which one to buy so that I may get the same as the sample.

A very elegant fragrance. Perfect 4 a princess. Very rich and extremlly long lasting. That's how my girlfrind smells like.

too loud. gives me a headache i received a sample at a makeup counter in macy's smelled wonderful. but when i bought the bottle it was upsettingly loud & strong. last all day but so did my headache. maybe the sample was butterly?
