having travlled the world this is by far the best that I have ever encountered

  • COLLEEN05/05/2008

You will either love it or hate it. Everyone can't wear this fragrance. Lucky for me, I can. It has such a rich blend of scents that demands to be noticed, that I would wear this as a fall/winter fragrance only. I tried the ligther version of this and it was absolutely awful on me, go figure. I'll stick to the original. In fact, I have to hunt this one down. If you are unsure, try the smallest of samples first. My husband ADORES this fragrance on me. It is uniquely MINE.

  • LISA04/15/2008

Excellent, sexy smelling perfume...but NOT on me! The first whiff is powdery and exotic but after about 10 minutes it smells like perspiration! I gave it to my mom and it is delicious on her: powdery, but rich, yet dry...not for everybody but GREAT on mommy!!

  • MAUREEN08/06/2007

Yes, its a very lovely fragrance but not on me. Thought it would smell spicier but on the drydown just smelled powdery and seemed to fade. By the way, its in a different bottle from the pic shown - classier look I think. Anyway, please enjoy Rouge if it works on you.....

  • VICTORIA06/07/2007

This is a perfect example of how just because perfume is expensive, it doesn't mean its good. There are number of times when I passed women in my office building(usually older)who were drenched in a very strong and musty smelling perfumes. For me, Rouge would fall into this category. I can't imagine how it would be considered sensual type perfume but that's how it was marketed. I love variety of perfumes, my favorite is Samsara, L'Eau par Kenzo, Simply by Clinique and new Escada Into the Blue. But This is just awful(to my nose and my boyfriend's who thought it was the most unappealing perfume ever). I guess its the matter of taste since I've seen so many good reviews.

  • VERONIQUE IN FRANCE11/22/2006

This perfume feels exactly similar that "Rive Gauche" by Y. Saint Laurent...

  • RAMONA BAUMANN08/07/2006

I received Rouge perfume for a gift, about three or four years ago,it was purchased at Marshall Fields,at the Lancome counter,is this the same Rouge made by Hermes

  • NEVENA11/16/2005

To me the scent smells like a chypré Samsara. I once mixed Samsara with GivenchyIII and my neighbor, who works in the Hermes flagship store in Paris thought I wore Hermes rouge! Very complex and not every-body's cup of tea, but if You wear chypres (Cabochard, Fendi, GivenchyIII) and woody orientals (Samsara, Montana) with confidence it is worth a try. Average staying power.

  • MAYA11/07/2005

Thank you so much for that wonderful explanation about this fragrance. Rouge indeed is a very complex scent that just totally captured my attention. I think I will enjoy it for a long time to come... just something there that makes it very unforgettable (for me at least) :) I still have not sampled Chamade by Guerlain but will let you know how that goes once I do. By the way what do you think of Nu by YSL, I really like it! Many thanks again, Maya

  • SYLVIE10/08/2005

Hello Maya, I can understand what you mean. ROUGE is a difficult floral-oriental-aldehydic fragrance. Not a pure and sweet oriental like Opium for example. Please compare legendary Chamade by Guerlain with ROUGE. I can smell a similarity. What smells difficult and "strange" in these days are the aldehydes. The most HERMES fragrances include aldehydes (Calèche, Parfum d'Hermès etc.) - Chanel No. 5, Arpège, Je Reviens, and Ferré by Ferré are also classic aldehydes-florals. Not for everyone. But very classy and expensive. A little "old-fashioned" and very mature. Imo for self-confident, very elegant and successful ladies with luxury Hermès leather handbags. Aldehydic-florals are not nice for young and uncomplicated girls. Just my opinion.

  • LIZ10/06/2005

Hi Rouge lovers, your compliments to this fragrance have my attention. Please give me a more detailed description -- does it have any incense notes, spicy notes? Can you compare it to other similar fragrances? How does it compare to Rouge eau Delicate?

  • *MAYA*09/19/2005

Do I like it? Yes I do! But what is it about this fragrance? There is just something that is off, a little weird, in a good way but at the same time just a little weird... And like this explanation of the fragrance I am lost when trying to explain the feel you get when you wear it... I liked it when I first sprayed it on, a little strong but I personally don't mind that. Then there is the transformation which happens pretty fast on me and then I am told that it smells like soap. Now I wonder where that came from, especially since after having read all these posts I see no one at all mention that this could ever possibly smell like soap whatsoever... Once again, I do like it but now I'm not sure if I really want to buy this... Maybe for the winter this will make a prefect companion on the way to work and in the office, on the drive home on those wintery cold days... but I'm not so sure that my fiance really liked it on me that much :) He simply just prefers lighter scents, and I love the more sensuous slightly heavier ones :)

  • KRISTINA09/09/2005

I have been looking for something earthy, deep, sensual. Today I tried Hermes Rouge! Very sophisticated and deep. Elegant and mystical. Very impressed!

  • ALLYSA08/03/2005

When i spray it for teh first time, it smells good, very feminine but after several minutes, the scent turns into a ver cheap scent. One word for this fragrance " yieks...!!!!"

  • LANELL05/31/2005

Knew this was 'me' from the magazine sample. My only complaints: Frangrance is not long lasting to say the least , and cannot find the solid cache. Any help on that? I hate to support the French, but the perfume business is at least not making munition for the insurgents.

  • SHARRIE12/20/2004

color me rouge. another proincess of the perfume family. wonderful. a delightful treat.

  • SHARRIE12/17/2004

sio full of life and richness in red, dreamy, nice, a taste of the good things in life,

  • SHARRIE12/14/2004

a perfect blkend in harmony ludt, scrumptous, my husband adores it on me

  • SHARRIE12/06/2004

rouge is a top note scent very aromatic, awesome, delicus enough to eat, my husband loves it, i cant wear it enough

  • BARBARA10/02/2004

I've been a big fan of Calache and 24 Faubourge for years, so I tried Rouge. Very sweet and heavy in a Shalimar, Opium kind of way. Didn't like it. Couldn't wear it.

  • MELISSA JILL09/01/2004

Wow...just...wow. On me, Rouge starts out with the scent of ylang ylang, spicy and a bit strong. As time passes, Rouge goes through a slightly bitter stage on me that actually reminds me of L'Air du Temps. Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying this smells like L'Air du Temps. But I do find them reminiscent of each other in that "bitter" way. After the spicy and bitter notes are gone, it soon softens down and I can smell the myrrh, rose, sandalwood, and a hint of vanilla - it's bourbon vanilla here so it doesn't do much to make the fragrance sweet or foody. This is supposed to have cedar but I don't smell it - definitely no "hampster cage" cedar smell here! I find that it does have the churchy, incense-y feel to it at times. The myrrh and rose notes in it remind me of Parfum Sacre as well, which perhaps adds a bit to the fragrances "heavenly" appeal for me. What I have in the end is a beautiful, wintery scent that is cozy, warm, and enveloping. I can see Rouge keeping me warm for many winters to come. My new comfort scent. I just love it.

  • CT04/26/2004

I am all about hermes. Have the cuffs, the scarves and the bags. Had to have the scent. Simply says, "i am worth it".

  • AMANDA04/06/2004

Eugggg, it reminds me of my granny!! The top note smells like a heavy-smoker's breath, and when it dried down it has a very toxic cheap old lotion (almost identical to that awful 'Aromatic Elixir' by Clinique)!!! I cannot believe that I was mugged to buy a bottle (it was a bargain online and I couldn't resist it).... Just because it's quite expensive, it doesn't mean it's a nice one. I prefer Madness by Chopard which has a similar note (and much cheaper), though I am not that keen on this kind of theme. Stay away unless you like to make peple around you cough.

  • JAN12/14/2003

Strong at the beginning and then dried to "nothingness"

  • JAN12/08/2003

I don't get any comments from anyone when I wear Rouge. I'ts certainly different but I never get a nice whiff feedback from it.

  • MIMY11/20/2003

    SIMPLY..THE BEST!!!!

  • BMARIE11/07/2003

I've never smelled a more exotic, sultry, yet classic fragrance! It's everything a perfume should be.

  • TAWNY08/18/2003

Received this as a Xmas gift from my ex-honey. I wore it out for New Year's Eve & met someone else. Such is its enticing power.

  • SCHNOZZ05/14/2003

I am not sure what I think of this fragrance. Sometimes I love it and other times it bothers me. It is deep and smoky. It is unlike any other fragrance I own. I don't think it smells much like Giorgio Red. Red is sweeter, while this is smokier.

  • PERFUME JUNKIE05/11/2003

    Absolutely wonderful! Rich, powdery, sensual.

  • EILEEN04/16/2003

It's very like Giorgio's Red only a bit smoother. It stands out.

  • GUERLAINIA03/22/2003

I adored Parfum D'Hermes. Rouge is definitely a reworking of it, but Rouge is heavier and spicier. I'm sorry that the original was discontinued.

  • GLORIA02/13/2003

I bought this about a year ago. It was definetly different. I notice I don't wear it as much as my favorites. It is nice but I don't wear it when I am going somewhere special. I don't know if I will ever finish the bottle.

  • MARYMAGS02/11/2003

yes yes yes i could drink this stuff and beg for seconds.

  • BB01/23/2003

if you get a sample, let me know what you think. my husband hates it. my mother hates it. obviously my husband cant handle the competition with my reaction. silly man. just kidding.lol. i guess you love it or hate it, no in between?

  • ELAINE01/17/2003

BB, where did you get your sample. I've been looking for one.

  • KAREN01/12/2003

This parfum is simply the best in the world. I smell every day the bottle, just to feel good.

  • BB01/06/2003

i wasnt too sure when i got my little sample in the mail. it hits you hard the first time and doesnt let go. i didnt think too highly of it, but all day i was putting it to my nose. every time i sniff, i find something new, a new note, and i am quickly becoming addicted. it smells different on different parts of my arm. i am serious. and i have been respraying, as if it werent strong enough, and the spots with the older sprays smell more intriguing than the freshly sprayed flesh. i think i am becoming aroused by myself. oh my goodness. dries down to an almost masculine scent. not for the daytime. makes me feel in charge and like i dont need a man. oh my goodness. i have never had a reaction this strong to a womans perfume. its almost embarasing. good grief, i think i am blushing. i can smell it all around me and it smells different on the air. kindof masculine and very warm. MY HEART IS POUNDING. how friggin crazy is this? to be aroused by my own scent????

  • B12/01/2002

I have to say that someone just bought me Parfum D'Hermes....What a horrible scent. I am writing this here, because someone mentioned it, and it is not listed. It has to be the most heinous scent I have ever smelled. Unless like it was said, it was discontinued and got the first bottle ever made that had since gone bad.

  • JASMINE11/12/2002

From the bottle to the scent this is a jazzed up version of parfum d'Hermes, which, if I'm not mistaken, appears to have been discontinued (to my regret). It's spicier, sweeter and heavier with more sandalwood and cinamon and spices. A sophisticated and intoxicating scent more suited for evening use. Try Parfum d'Hermes, Chamade and Dioressence if you like this.

  • HISAKO10/06/2002

A couple of days ago I received my large Rouge after trying a mini. It is not a incense smell on me, rather it smells like rich strawberry-vanilla bourbon, though hard to describe. In any case, I feel very comfortable wearing the scent. May be some people don't like it as it is strong and too warm but it could be a choice of perfume for the up-coming Holiday season!

  • REDONE09/03/2002

Not your average perfume! Different, in a good way. Long lasting reminds me a bit of roses? and incense. I really liked this - I bought the BIG bottle.

  • BONNIE07/29/2002

I totally agree with Claudia. Rouge is sophisticated and classy unlike most of the trendy sickly sweet perfumes that seem to be taking over today. Definitely a scent for woman who likes to be noticed. Perfect for the fall/winter months. It also has a lot of staying power, which I like.

  • GIA07/26/2002

There is something smoky and mysterious about this smell--is it incense? I think of a clove cigarettes and souks in Turkey or Egypt.

  • STEPHANIE07/07/2002

I don't have any of this, but wouldn't mind buying some. I think it smells really good.. It sort of reminds me of something.. It was launched in 2000, but the smell makes me think of a memory of my youth.. Christmas and one of my relatives or something smelled similar on that day. Is there any other perfume that smells like this?

  • CLAUDIA06/20/2002

LOVE IT FOR WINTER... 24, FABOURG IN SPRING AND SUMMER.. ROUGE IS VERY SENSUOS AND EUROPEAN SMELLING..NOT FOR THE TYPICAL PARFUM BUYING PUBLIC..

  • A.06/13/2002

I think I found my signature scent. On me this smells like really rich incense. It's just the sort of scent I've been looking for. I love it.

  • PERFUME JUNKIE06/09/2002

I liked this one, too. But then my favorite perfumes are always the strong ones.

  • GÜLDEN04/30/2002

    Fantastic!

  • HLK04/12/2002

A sensuous scent. Very classy! Try 24 Faubourg. Great for summer. No alchohol in it.

  • LOLA04/10/2002

hot hot hot, spicy and long lasting.

  • SAMMI01/29/2002

Hermes Rouge will always remind me of a lovely vacation in Paris, as does 24 Faubourg. Very different scents, but equally lovely. Give both a try.

  • TOURAY12/26/2001

    Synthetic smelling.Heavy.

  • ZEKIYE12/23/2001

because I once had a tester and my boyfriend loved it. He won't let me wear anything else. It is a bit strong and old but I have grown to like it (especially when he is buying it for me!)

  • LADYSTEPHANIE11/16/2001

I love this stuff. I find it very sensuous. A good mixture of scents.

  • KARINA11/10/2001

Love almost anything from Hermes, but not this fragrance. I was intrigued by the pretty jewel-toned bottle, but was disappointed by the scent, which I found very sharp and strong. Not the best offering by this company that usually produces great fragrances. Try 24 Faubourg instead! :)

  • LINDA09/29/2001

To die for! This is the best!

  • EVONE09/29/2001

Smelled it in a magazine and thought I had to have it. When I got to the store and smelled it again, didn't like it so much...

  • L08/17/2001

What a sexy perfume! Sophisticated and wonderful

  • SHERE'E HUDNELL07/12/2001

it is a very sophisticated scent, at least it's not like the trendy stuff.

  • RUBY07/07/2001

sweet, with myrh in it, i think (among other stuff.)
