Love the fragrance, still getting compliments after using Arpege for over 40 years! I also enjoy the body lotion and shower gel.

  • BARB E02/05/2012

This fragrance is an old one but still a great aroma. Just wish shower gel, lotion and bath powder were available in this fragrance!

  • BARB E02/05/2012

Great, refreshing perfume, Needs shower gel and lotion more readily available as well as bath powder

  • SANDY01/17/2012

I absolutely adore Arpege perfume and have worn it for years. It's subtle and when layered with body lotion lasts all day long. I find it difficult sometimes to source the body lotion and was so pleased to treat myself for Christmas when I located it on Galaxy Perfume site. I'm interested in purchasing the concentrate if I can find it.

  • KYLIEMO04/28/2011

Does Arpege smell like Chanel No. 5? I bought No. 5 some years ago, absolutely adore the bottle, what a classic, it is elegance incarnate. BUT, powdery, so powdery. I can't bear it. BUT just been watching A Single Man, and Colin Firth notes that a young woman is wearing Arpege and he breathes in her fragrance. What a turn on! I thought, I must try it. BUT, only if it is exquisite and beautiful, and NOT powdery! Someone, please tell me.

I have long held the opinion that, much as people`s politics tend to drift rightward with age, perfumes become more masculine with time. This is partly due to the fact that most classic feminines undergo breast reduction at each reformulation, and partly due to the outrageous, borderline-slutty girliness of many modern feminines, which makes the ladylike masterpieces of an earlier age seem positively virile. Add to that the fact that most modern masculines are either fresh-woody nonentities or chemical foghorns, and you will see why the discerning guy raids his grandma´s shelves. Arpège is a case in point. It was reformulated many times, both stealthily and openly, all the while claiming absolute fidelity to the original formula. Today it is an elegant, nutty woody floral with an overall beige tonality that would be very dowdy on all but a guy. Recommended.

What a perfect name, chosen by Jeanne Lanvin´s daughter to describe the almost indescribable quality of this grand classic. Translated as Arpeggio, a musical term for a rapid succession of upward notes, Arpège is an ecstatic, rapturous miracle. Created by André Frayse for the House of Lanvin in 1927, when Madame Lanvin was at the peak of her career as a couturière, the perfume created quite a stir, being one of the cheeky new breed to use aldehydes as part of its complex composition. During the course of its life Arpège underwent a few slight tamperings, subtly but tellingly altering its smell. I am glad to report that at last this nonsense has been stopped and we are back to the amazingly original formula! Its newly restored classicism is impervious, and time has certainley not diminished its aura of elegant hauteur. A gently outgoing perfume, it is a captivating mélange of opulent flowers seamlessly interwoven with woody, musky notes and a hint of sparkling green in its depths. It begins its chordal adventure with sweet Grasse Jasmine and Bulgarian Rose, then builds up with contrapuntal themes of greener flower notes such as Hyacinth and Lily of the valley for a crisp freshness. Then comes the audacious introduction of heady, wild Honeysuckle. An overlay of Amber and Musk with touches of Vetyver and Sandalwood culminate in a crescendo of intensely warm, autumnal radiance - very like Chopin at his most ardent and passionate! Refinement is the word I associate with Arpège - a beautifully rounded composition with cultivated nuances and wild depths. In its gold-stoppered black orb bottle, its been famous since its creation. But whatever you treasure it for, Arpège is a tireless romantic triumph, a masterpiece of balance, harmony, richness and, above all, opulent loveliness - a glorious headlong rush of magical notes to be played over and over and over...I think Arpège is at its best with tailored or draped clothes - a smart town suit, a stunning little black dress, an arresting but unfussy evening bombshell. It cares not for seasons or ages, gliding with innate elegance and assurance through the years, giving away no secrets. Arpège adores refined reds, rich earthy colours, lush cream and ivory, imperial purple, parma violet, copper, gold and especially black! Being a Great Lady, it should be treated with a sense of refinement, so always look your best when you wear it!

After trying many perfumes through the years I rediscovered Arpege perfume in Plymouth, England in 1995 when I visited my niece. I have worn only Arpege since then. I wore this beautiful fragrance in the 1960's-1970's and now wear only Arpege again. I am now 65. People still comment on how great it is and ask what it is.

  • MIRIAM01/15/2009

When I smelled this perfume on the lady I babysat for in the '50's, I vowed I would wear it when I got old enough to buy. I am now 71 years old and I still wear it. Get complimented everytime I wear it. Don't ever let it go off the market!!

  • LOVELY NOSE07/17/2008

If somebody were to capture the scent of the average elderly lady and put it in a bottle, this is what it would smell like. Here's how I would describe this fragrance--dusty and old (not to mention too strong for its own good). If you are under 95, please refrain from buying...

  • KARA02/26/2008

Does anyone know if My Sin is still available? I've read so much about it, I would love to smell it. Thanks!

  • KATHRYN01/03/2008

I posted here in April 2005 and a bottle received in August 2007 is no different. Since the chinese company bought it in 1993, and it was unavailable for 2 years, it is so sour and has not changed.

  • MARGO12/17/2007

I have always hate this perfume. I remember it from years ago and it smelled horrible then too. Its not a nice fragrance. It might have a hefty price tag but it still reeks. It smells just disgusting. Give me something real like Beautiful or White Linen.

  • DEMONICA12/14/2007

Whoa I found a new unopened package of this in my Grandmothers Estate. This stuff is foul! It is horribly powdery and it just smells cheap. If I smelled on someone I would think they had a cheap dimestore disaster on. It is just absolutely one of the worst fragrances I have ever smelled well maybe Emerarude or something Avon might beat it. Its disgusting its out right offensive and it really assaults the senses. This particular package said it was made by Charles of The Ritz in Paris. No wonder granny didn't use this stuff. I am sure someone bought it for her and she didn't want to hurt their feelings and return it, but vowed never to wear it. This is a trainwreck waiting to happen! Yuck~

  • VIKKI08/15/2007

This is one of the great classics. My sister wore it for years. When I was 5 years old, I became addicted to perfume because of this fragrance. I have a tremendous collection of perfumes but this will always be one of my favorites. Its elegant, beautiful, timeless.

  • LONDON06/09/2007

My mother and I agree, they changed the formula (swere to God), on this one. The mini bottles tend to smell more like we remember, REALLY GOOD. Avoid the $100 bottles, you'll throw it out, you'll be so insulted.

  • SALLY KAY04/29/2007

The Arpege that is available now is definitely not the same perfume that my husband gave me when we were courting. I wore it for years, until it became unavailable. I did fine some about fifteen years ago in a tiny bottle and used it sparingly, saving the bottle. It was the real thing. The bottles I have bought since, including one that was very expensive, have been pleasant, but they are not the Arpege that I loved.

  • GLORY04/26/2007

Totally, absolutely, classically gorgeous. I like to spray this in the air and do a walk through, that way I get just the right amount. I could almost give up my entire stash and wear this alone.

  • BARBARA W02/15/2007

Just sample the men's version of Arpege - amazing! I *almost* purchased to wear for myself, though it is masculine. Would be interested to hear if any other women find it appealing.

  • LORRAINE G01/31/2007

The Arpege of today is nothing like that of the Arpege of 10 years ago. Why does the company change the formula? Do the ingredients get more scarce or costly? They should just take it off the market because it is a big disappointment to me.

  • HELEN10/10/2006

I have seen this fragrance in a black bottle: it is more powdery, less sweet and more "vibrant". At other places I find plain glass bottles, in which the fragrance is sweeter, softer and less powdery. Is this the difference (changed formula) many of you here are talking about?

  • BLONDIE10/07/2006

Maybe it's me, but several women in my family wore this and the one out not does not smell the same to me. Has it changed like so many others?

  • ANNE07/24/2006

Having survived on miniatures, I've finally found a 30ml (1 fl.oz.) bottle and snapped it up. I'm delighted. Arpege is subtle, a floral scent with an air of mystery. The essence of femininity, in my view. I use others - White Linen, Samsara - but Arpege is softer. I always go back to it.

  • SHERRY05/02/2006

I love this classic, full-bodied scent, but wear only a small amount so that it does not enter the room before me. It agrees with my chemistry and I always receive compliments when I wear it.

  • KATHY02/27/2006

A woman who has reached full peak of her "womanhood" would like this..??? How silly! Likes and dislikes are subjective and has nothing to do with womanhood. This stuff can be very harsh and sickening to a lot of us. Try not to make silly blanket statements about women.

  • DENNIS (OLD DUDE OF 59)02/07/2006

My mother wore it, my sister wore it, my favorite girlfriend in high school wore it, two of my ex wives wore it, and now my daughter now wears it. Three or four generations of women can't be wrong. A woman who has arrived at the full peak of her womanhood would appreciate Arpege. It's right up there with Chanel, Cabochard, Shalimar & Joy as one of the all-time great fragrances in my book. Unfortunately, none of the guests who frequent the Jay Leno show wear it.

  • ANNAMARIA02/03/2006

After reading so many wonderful reviews here about Arpege, I went out and bought a bottle today for $110! I wore it back at home, and thought it smelt pretty good. I asked my 7 year old son what he thought. He sniffed around and said, "It's okay - but you smell like grandma." Grandma is my 78 year old mother in law who wears No 5. Oh dear. I do NOT want to smell like my mother in law, and now he's mentioned it, I can't help but agree. What a dreadful waste of money that turned out to be!

  • VALERIE12/18/2005

Grace, this was also my mother's favorite special scent. Whenever I initially put it on, I'm reminded of searching through my mother's purse in church as a child, she always had a small spray bottle of Arpege in her purse. I now live in a town of less than 4,000 and EVERYONE complements me on this scent! It's outstanding.

  • GRACE12/14/2005

My Father used to give Arpege to my Mother. Arpege was her "Special" scent for "Special" occasions. We girls loved the way our Mother smelled when she and Daddy went out for the evening. I found Arpege after a long time of looking for it. I think it smells just the same as the tiny bit of Arpege left over in Mom's Arpege purse flacon. When I'm wearing it, people are always coming up to me and asking me "What are you wearing? You smells soooo goood!" I guess Arpege may not be the scent for every woman but it is THE scent for me.

  • *BARBARA W*11/04/2005

Guess I'm in the minority, but I do not care for this scent at all...harsh and overpowering.

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE11/03/2005

Love it, love it, love it. Classy scent that makes me feel like a movie star! Just found My Sin again, which is now being made by Irma Shorell. Used to wear it long ago when Lanvin made it. My Sin is a real beauty that takes me back to fond memories. Arpege is equally seductive and glamorous as My Sin. Highly recommend it.

  • KATHY Z.10/26/2005

A beautiful, powdery floral. Classic. A scent that I like in the fall and winter. Almost too strong for summer. Very feminine but not so much so. Has stood the test of time. Perfect for the confident woman who wants to make a statement.

  • PERFUME MANIAC10/26/2005

I am exactly liked my name, I have so many bottles of perfumes that are mostly vintage and discontinued one, well, recently I bought one my sin perfume in an old perfume shop in hong kong,I tell you, I never expect it smells so beautiful, mysterious but not vampy at all, then I got another Arpege today,it is so pretty, firstly it really smell similar to N5,then it dried down to a very gentle smell,I like chanel n5,also chanel gardenia but chanel is more agressive and more aldehyde, arpege is wonderful, anyway,I love this smell, very modern and tasteful,I don't know why ppl hate it. well,I also love revlon intimate, the one Cindy Crawford did the advertisement, not the old one, it is sexiest perfume I have tried in my life, always the best for me,you cannot find this scent liked this one so good anymore, only get this in ebay,ok, the new serge lutens cedre is similar, but I tell you, that shiseido one is less better than those drug store fragrance,Revlon. well, shiseido have great one too,Inoui, murasaki, those are hard to find, recently I got three bottles of inoui in a shop in HK,I have got them all,I know you can find some in ebay, but superably expensive, well, palais royal-shiseido has great one, liked Musc kublai khan, musc et bois,lys......well,I should stop to buy, I have so much, but recently I want to try those avon one, seems to be great, get one in ebay, wait for it,possibly, buying perfume becomes my hobby

  • KATHY10/25/2005

Oooh.... I take that back..it isn't Ok. I felt sick as a dog from this perfume. Ughhhh, seriously ,don't what it was, just too sweet I guess......barf....... do you know what the morning after hang over is like??? This is a hang over in a bottle.

  • KATHY10/24/2005

Not bad, pleasant enough, but nothing that thrilled me either. I guess I expected some thing more unusual.. I still haven't found any thing as lovely and romantic as Red Door. Doesn't look like I will either!

  • SUKI10/22/2005

Remembered using the spray cologne in 1970 and thinking it was a really pretty fragrance. Tried it again last year and it wasn't the same. Had a very cheap, strong, foul odor to it. I guess they changed the formula like they do with some many other great perfumes.

  • CT09/08/2005

The 1st time I smelled it, I thought Chanel No. 5. The 2nd time, it didn't agree w/me. Don't know why I tried it one more time, but I'm glad I did. It is exquisite! Now I wear it every day. I love it and plan to stock up!

  • MICHELE07/21/2005

Fragrant, warm and sexy. One of the great perfumes. The other two I love are 24 Faubourg (Hermes) and Opium.

  • KATHRYN07/04/2005

I am so relieved that someone else has noticed the change. Ruth noticed it in the minis; I'm in Australia and at my wits end because I already have so many opened bottles that are just rubbish. What can we do about it? I've been to the Lanvin site but there is no where to advise the heirarchy that something is very wrong. Any advice gratefully received.

  • LOUISE06/23/2005

This is a short P.S. Just looked up some info on Lanvin. L'Oreal sold the House in '01 to a group of investors known as Holding Harmonie. Now, has there been another formula change of the inestimable Arpege? Oh, I hope not. Sometimes when a company buys another, they allow status quo. Sometimes they want to fiddle with what exists. Let's hope they haven't fiddled with Arpege. Again.

  • LOUISE06/23/2005

Jo is correct in that the L'Oreal company bought out the house of Lanvin. However, the reformulation of Arpege is very faithful to the older version, and in some aspects is better. Even Luca Turin, who often laments the fact that companies reformulate the classics, has stated in his Le Guide that the newer version of Arpege is very, very good. Very respectful and very faithful to the original. In fact, Lanvin required that better ingredients be used for the newer formula. I personally find it to be faithful to the fragrance I remember from the '60s. I will also add that I have a mini Arpege that does NOT smell the way it should. I don't know why that is, but it's true. Don't base your opinion of Arpege based on a mini. Smells like someone squirted some beer in it.

  • KATHRYN05/17/2005

Thanks Ruth. All of these bottles that I have are 50ml. But it does raise the question how come no one else has noticed? My email address is [email protected] If you find out anymore I'd love to know. Thanks Kathryn

  • JO05/16/2005

Arpege disappeared for a while because it was bought by L'Oreal. When it reappeared the scent had changed. L'Oreal say that they reverted to the original formula, from the twenties, which is quite different from the one we all know and love. I discovered Arpege in the 60's, there was nothing like it, and never will be. I don't believe L'Oreal's story. The "new" Arpege smells cheaper, it has lost it's unique, exquisite scent. This will be the last bottle I buy.

  • KATHRYN05/14/2005

I replied to your message on May 10th, Ruth, but it didn't get posted here. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I will do as you suggested. All the bottles are EDP. Once again thank you.

  • RUTH05/11/2005

Kathryn, this may or may not be significant. Last year I had bought at two different times two mini EDPs of Arpege (splash). I rarely use them since I bought them to carry in my purse, but just today I got both out and sniffed each, and I could smell a sour odor, much as you described. I dabbed on some from each bottle, and neither smelled the way Arpege should. Now, the larger bottles which I have of the spray Arpege in the EDT and EDP are both quite wonderful, but not these minis. Anyway, maybe there was a bad lot at one time, or maybe someone is watering down some of these bottles. I really don't know, but there's my experience, for what it's worth. One thing's for sure. No more Arpege minis.

  • KATHRYN05/10/2005

thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Yes, all the bottles are EDP and as I mentioned even my daughter in law said they weren't the same as my old bottle. I have taken down the website of Vermont and I will have to get over my fear of putting my credit details on the net and see if I can try one more time. My family gave me a bottle of Chanel 5 for Mothers Day, which also is very special. It is surprising that all the bottles have been bought at different stores, which makes me wonder if whoever is importing it into Australia is getting the "real thing". Once again, thank you.

  • RUTH05/06/2005

Kathryn, I'm sorry to hear you're having such a time with Arpege. Many years ago I had a similar experience with Hope by Frances Denney. I had been using it for some time when I got a bottle that simply smelled different, and differenet didn't mean good. The saleslady assured me there had been no change in formulation. Something had surely gone wrong. I eventually gave up on the fragrance and went on to something else. I'm having a similar problem with Joy by Jean Patou. Just doesn't smell like it should, and I've got a brand new fresh bottle, too. Anyway, back to Arpege. I've been using Arpege for the past couple years, and I must say that it smells the way it should to my nose. No sourness, just the nice, floral aldehyde essences I should smell. I'm in the States and for my first bottle of the re-launched Arpege, I placed an order from The Vermont Country Store (www.vermontcountrystore.com) which has the Arpege EDT. I loved it. Very soft and feminine. I found on an another internet store the EDP and I have been very pleased since. I don't smell the sourness you describe, but I don't doubt what you say. Are these EDPs you're describing, or the pure parfum? Maybe you'd be willing to try a perfume vendor in the States? Best wishes to you.

  • KATHRYN CUMMINGS04/29/2005

I posted here back 11/9/02 and again when I heard it was coming back 3/5/03. I have to be honest, I'm bitterly disappointed. I'm in Sydney, Australia. The fragrance is not the same, and on me smells quite sour. I have a tiny little bit left in an old bottle and I asked my daughter inlaw to check one against the other and she agreed, it isn't the same! The body lotion, of which I have very little left is the old fragrance. What has gone wrong? I have 5 bottles in my drawer, all the same. I'm not going to buy anymore as they are all the same, sour. It looks like after all this time I will have to go back to chanel 5. Has anyone else noticed the difference? Please advise.

  • PAM E04/27/2005

First of all, thank you for sharing your story, Diana. What a tragedy you've experienced, and yet what courage you have. I wish you all the very best. My mother wore Arpege back in the '60s and '70s before it was discontinued for a time. I used to get Victoria Magazine, and in the mid-90s they did an article featuring the re-introduction of Arpege. I was interested in trying some for myself. This was before the explosion of the internet, and the city in which we lived didn't have a dept store which stocked the original Arpege. Well, fast-forward to late '03 when I discovered Arpege on an internet fragrance store, ordered it, and have been delighted with it since. It is truly a lovely, classic fragrance. Timeless and sophisticated. Not little girly at all. I also like Arpege's "little sister," Eclat d'Arpege. Quite different from the original. Modern, yet quite wonderful on its own. With internet stores like Perfume Emporium, wonderful fragrances like Arpege and Eclat are easy to find.

  • DIANA04/08/2005

I used Arpege in the late 70's and early 80's, it was then made of synthetic ingredients. They discontinued it for years. I then read in 1996 that Princess Diana wore it. I told my husband who told a couple of friends that traveled to London on business to get it for me, if they found it. He surprised me with it, with a lovely note about being fit for a princess. A few months later he passed away at 47 yrs. old. I stopped using it and I have a half bottle left, which I will always keep. I am now ready to wear it again. Arpege now is made with all natural ingredients and it is a wonderful fragrance. My husband, like Arpege was very special.

  • LINDYLOU02/25/2005

The trendy fragrances come and go, but the classics have a loyal following. I received Arpege Eau De Parfum along with the powder back in 1963 for Christmas. Our family didn't have much money, but she wanted to buy me an beautiful fragrance as I was 13 and on the brink of womanhood. To this day, this is my most favorite fragrance of all. My second favorite classic is Chanel No. 5. Woman of equisite taste appreciate Arpege.

  • VAL01/16/2005

My mom wore Arpege and Eau My Sin (which was also excellent but discontinued), and I still love Arpege today...I'm always complemented when wearing it!

  • LOUISE01/15/2005

Yes, My Sin is in release once again. Irma Shorell purchased the patent from Lanvin and manufactures the fragrance using Lanvin's exact same forumulation. www.longlostperfume.com

  • ELIZABETHANNE01/03/2005

I just tried this perfume for the first time in a shop in Germany and I was hooked! The initial hit is very strong, but the scent soon mellows out into a powdery, rich floral. Interestingly, the salesgirl tried to turn me away from Arpege in favor of something more "young and modern." That's a "Mamaduft," she said! Well, I've always been an altmodisches Maedchen at heart, and I love the sensuous fragrances of yesteryear. Arpege reminds me of a lovely, lively flapper dancing the night away in a speakeasy. I have found my signature scent!

  • SHARRIE12/21/2004

aperge is a winner. magick. the smell of attraction. no regrets, satisfied totally. woonderful.

  • DIANNE AGAIN12/17/2004

I really miss this scent as well i started wearing Arpege when I coudn't get My Sin Or Chanel

  • DIANNE AGAIN12/17/2004

I really miss this scent as well i started wearing Arpege when I coudn't get Mty Sin Or Chanel

  • CHARLES HARLEY11/29/2004

Is the scent--the thick stuff, not the eau de parfum or the spray or the mouthwash or douche or whatever--available in larger than the 20 ml bottle? For the fun of it, I should like to give my wife a larger bottle for her dressing table, but nowhere can I find it on offer. Admittedly, I am more than slightly ignorant about this category of sumptuary goods. If any high livin', sweet smellin' broad can point me in the right direction, I should actually be most grateful.

  • SARAH11/24/2004

Just lovin' this stuff! Oh, so does my ancient 45 year old DH and so does my nearly fossilized 20 year old son.

  • KAREN S.10/28/2004

At first I thought it awful -old lady unoriginal, dusty. But once the initial note leaves it becomes very interesting more complex and reflects I think it's time of the sophistcated 20's. Interesting .

  • DELPHINE10/26/2004

I'm still laughing at some of these posts. I'm an old lady of 42 who enjoys wearing this fragrance. The late Princess Diana was also an "old lady" who included Arpege in her repertoire of favorite perfumes. Let's hear it for all the old ladies out there!!

  • MARY L.10/26/2004

Is Arpege shower gel still available? It has a wonderful scent that isn't, in my opinion, as "old lady-ish" as the EDT/perfume itself. I used to take the shower gel to the gym with me in the 1980's, and women would yell out across the shower stalls in the locker room to ask the name of the great scent.

  • CATHERINE10/09/2004

I wanted to like this one so bad based off of the reviews. I thought is was nasty and so did my husband. Maybe it grows on you...I will try a couple more times before I give it away.

  • ISADORA06/28/2004

I wore Arpege in college in the late 1960s. This new Arpege is fresher, with more of a lilt, but still an exquisite, feminine, complex scent.

  • SHARM06/09/2004

This was first given to me by my grandmother, one of the first perfumes I wore as a girl on the verge of womanhood. What memories of Christmas the fragrance of Arpege brings back! Am so thrilled to be able to purchase this beautiful fragrance again after many years without it.

  • PAM05/19/2004

Don't worry, be happy. Arpege isn't going anywhere. Check out Lanvin's web site at www.lanvin.fr and you'll see that Arpege is going strong. It's Lanvin's mainline fragrance and there are no plans to discontinue it. If you haven't tried it, do so. Arpege is a fabulous classic and was one of Princess Di's favs. One of Princess Grace's (Grace Kelly) favs as well. 10/10.

  • DIANA05/03/2004

I wore Arpege back in the 80's when it was sold at Kmart. I couldn't find it for years and in 1996 I read an article that said that Princess Diana wore it. I told my husband. He never told me that he asked a couple of friends that travel for work to look for it. One of them bought it in Harrod's in London and paid $100.00 for a 3.4 oz. bottle. He surprised me with it and a note that said something about being fit for a princess. A few months later he died of a massive heart attack at 47. I still have some left. After 6 yrs. Ican't bring myself to use it. Have to buy another bottle. Arpege is a wonderful fragrance and it holds a special memory for me.

Arpege has been noted as one of the 5 greatest fragrances ever invented. It is classic and sophisticated and may not appeal to the under 25's. I remember when the formulation was changed in the '80s to attract younger buyers, it was ok but not as good as the original, which, thank goodness, has returned. If you like Arpege, try First by Van Cleef and Arpels, which is also a floral aldehyde, and I think has a similar haunting appeal, and is soft yet outgoing and seductive. Arpege is at its best in the cooler months and evenings.

  • ANA C.04/06/2004

As far as I can tell, Lanvin is not discontinuing Arpege. I've seen two posts on the internet stating that Arpege is on its way out. So I contacted two fragrance merchants; neither had any information on Arpege's demise; one was confident that Arpege was in no danger of being phased out. So then I contacted Jan Moran, author of Fabulous Fragrances II, and she had not heard anything about Lanvin discontinuing Arpege, either. As far as I can tell, Arpege is still popular and I'd expect Lanvin to continue making and selling its premier fragrance. Let's hope so, anyway. It's my favorite, too.

  • LILLIE04/03/2004

Please tell me that this Eclat D'Arpege is NOT some means of "phasing out" the original Arpege. I hope Lanvin has more integrity than to discontinue or compromise such a classy, refined, feminine scent. It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

  • VIVIANA03/30/2004

Éclat d'Arpege has nothing to do with the original Arpege. It is soft, floral and it smells of wisteria. Very feminine and delicate.

  • PAMELA03/25/2004

I don't know what the original Arpege smells like, but the new Eclat D'Arpege is WONDERFUL! Very refined, sophisticated, clean, light and a tad musky. I LOVE IT!!!!

  • LOUISE M01/18/2004

I was so thrilled to know that Arpege is not only back but easily available through internet companies. It's a dignified and feminine fragrance. Very classy. Five stars. Not like so many of the sweet, cloying designer fragrances so popular with the young'uns today.

  • LOUISE01/15/2004

This is one of my all time favorite and classic fragrances. Maybe it's because I'm forty-something, but I dislike most of the modern fragrances which, to me, smell mostly alike. They are too sweet and cloying. Arpege, on the other hand, is classy and dignified.

  • MEVELEZ01/02/2004

Does anyone have feedback on Eclat d'Arpege. How does it compare to Arpege and is it a softer version of the same. Please respond.

  • CARAVAN01/01/2004

A man bought this for me, said it is his favorite. Well, it is not for me. Too sharp and stand-offish. It is a rich smelling fragrance, but not for everyone. Might grow on me, but just not my style. I prefer sweeter or spicier Orientals.

  • MARIE10/18/2003

    Classic and enduring

  • SUSAN10/06/2003

I received Arpege as a gift from my mother approx. 10 years ago, and although we don't usually agree on fragrances, guess what: we both LOVE this one. My grandmother told me that in the early years when Arpege was first released, some department stores would have fountains flowing with it.

  • JAN07/26/2003

In the 70's I bought Arpege lotion that was lavender in color and felt marvelous is it still available?

  • SARAH06/12/2003

Absolutely would love to have MY SIN back, loved it since 1965. Arpege is also a winner!!!!

  • JULIA05/15/2003

I bought this one because of its high ratings, but it turned out to be a total mistake, sandalwood should stay as fans and furnitures, not on humanbeing, too strong and raw

  • NEDRA05/02/2003

Will My Sin ever return? I miss it.

  • SALI04/30/2003

I imagine being able to wear this better with time because it is a very rich, sophisticated perfume. It's quite beautiful in a queenly way, and definitely a classic. It reminds me of Chanel N5 (which is powdery, not quite flowery even though it's classified as a floral) but Arpege is a little greener, sweeter, and has a heavier base (which on me turns honey-like and woody). I couldn't resist buying it because of that great mother-and-daughter logo on the black boule bottle. I have both parfum and EDP, and they are both very strong; a little goes far. I wear Arpege when I miss that powdery smell and when I want to smell distinctive and womanly.

  • ELISABETTA04/21/2003

at long last I have found it again!!!! It have to live for ever!

  • AMK04/13/2003

I read through the positive commentary on arpege, and decided to go out on a limb and purchase this fragrance based upon what I read- never sampling the fragrance before I bought it. I waited with great anticipation to receive this "wonderful" fragrance- but to my dismay, I was somewhat disapointed. I normally love powdery, feminine scents- but I found this one rather dull and boring (sorry). Not to mention, after only a couple hours of wear, the scent had faded. Arpege and my chemistry definitely don't mix. I'll give this one to my mother.

  • I.B.04/05/2003

Where's the old good Lanvin's "My Sin"?

  • KATHRYN CUMMINGS03/05/2003

I have just found out that Arpege is once again available to all of us!! It has now been picked up by a new distributor and apparently is once again for sale!! Good news indeed. BTW, I'm in Sydney, Australia.

  • PERFUMELOVERMARIA02/19/2003

This one was a recent addition to my growing collection. This one is timeless and beautiful, soft and fragrant. The scent is soft yet lasting, it is not overwhelming and complements. This is one of my favorites, really you can't go wrong with this one. I would really suggest trying this one out, if you are shopping for a new fragrance, it smells much better than most of the stuff out there, especially most of the newer stuff. Also I am 26 so this is a wonderful fragrance for the young women on the go. Great for buisness or office wear, I use this one mostly during the day.

  • BARBARA D.02/03/2003

It's such a wonderful scent it brings me back to my romantic days in High School with the love of my life.

  • CONNIE01/13/2003

This has been my favorite since the 60's. No other perfume comes close! A wonderful frangrance.

  • LYN11/29/2002

My recently deceased favorite aunt introduced me to many fragrances, but Arpege has always been my favorite. I remember My Sin, too, but I didn't like it so much. Now that I know it's still available, I'm going to request some for Christmas.

  • KATHRYN CUMMINGS11/09/2002

I live in Sydney, Australia and have been unable to get it & the body lotion. What on earth has happened? We should all use our voices and demand some answers! I don't use anything else and I want a logical reason why I can't get it anymore!

  • SUSAN11/02/2002

Can't believe I've found it!!! I've loved Arpege for almost 30 years, but haven't been able to find in stores locally for far too many years. Kudos to Perfume Emporium for carrying this classic and elegant scent!

  • ELISE08/27/2002

Hopefully, Lanvin hasn't discontinued this lovely, timeless fragrance! There was a time when you could not purchase this fragrance anywhere but for the small specialty perfumeries in Florida, and other locations you would have to hunt down. I have been able to purchase it at Nordstrom's in California, the last place locally that I know of. Arpege is a fragrance that I have worn since I was 15 years old and continue to do so, with ever so many compliments from both sexes. Most people pleasantly and complimentarily ask what that fragrance is.

  • JOBETH07/26/2002

Arpege is beyond 10 stars and is timeless. It falls in the ranks of other classics such as White Shoulders, No. 5, Fracas, Anais Anais and many more that have lasted for years and years(some of which, of course, I don't particularly care for but still classics). Makes me think of winter days in Chicago, snuggled up to my new husband, driving together to work. Sadly, the marriage ended but the happy memories and perfume haven't :-).

  • TRACY06/27/2002

Carol nailed it. The cheap crap that's so "in" today is too cloyingly sweet, smells anything but classy and all smell similar to each other. Yuck! This one was given to me as a gift 20 years ago, and I still love it. However, one of the current fragrances is a favorite, Cashmere Mist, but it's the only one I can tolerate because of its softness and feminity. I feel like I'm wrapped in angora when I spritz it on.

  • JEN06/23/2002

it is said that they will discontinue this classic fragrance. could anyone confirm this? if it is true, it is a shame.

  • LILLIE05/04/2002

I absolutely adore two fragrances...Arpege and Chanel #5...both SOFT, POWDERY, and FEMININE...no heavy spices, citrus, or greenery. These are TIMELESS...UNDERSTATED...and the scent not only LASTS ALL DAY, it seems to IMPROVE as it wears. I remember the commercials and the ads, "Promise her anything, but GIVE her Arpege"(smile).

  • LEORAH04/30/2002

Carol has said it! I agree. I used to be able to find it in duty free shops but now i usually get the answer: we have only one (!) or: we don't sell it anymore! What is the world coming to?

  • CAROL04/29/2002

My grandmother started me with Arpege when I was 11. I am over 50 now and have not used anything else no would I. I find it increasingly difficult to find this fragrance. This world has exchanged quality for trash in cheap abundance. Taste and sophistication have been drowned by the sewage of the mass market vile smelling concoctions of the desensitized noses. Have you ever smelled the nausiating odor of Eternity or Liz Claiborne? They smell like old over full saloon spitoons. Absolutely gross and at one time women wore that vile stuff because it was the latest thing out. Who do I have to contact to beg that Arpege not be discontinued?

  • CHRISTINEJACKSON3504/16/2002

I first bought the perfume in 1960 while in France and it was the first time I had ever been able to smell perfume on myself after hours of wearing, I moved over to usa and could never find it so when I was in the uk at christmas my friend bought me the largest bottle and I don't want to wear anything else, I get asked every time I go out what perfume I am wearing.

  • TELLEB04/07/2002

arpege is pronounced: ar-pezch with the accent on the second syllable.

  • ELISHA04/05/2002

    ar-pe-ge lol, lol,

  • ANDY04/05/2002

    How do you pronounce Arpege

  • CARLA04/02/2002

to me, it is similar to no 5 but more outspoken, more fruit in it perhaps?

  • ANITA N03/10/2002

It's been a favorite of mine since 1960 in highschool and I have never found any others near as lovely or special.

  • HEATHER RAYNER03/03/2002

This perfume may be 'old' compared to some, but it beats the heck out of most I've tried. To no longer produce this great perfume would be a crime against women!

  • MARION RAYNER03/03/2002

Why is Arpege being withdrawn? Shops in Nice and Cannes, France, tell me it's no longer being made, and when shelves are empty, that's it. Please get them to continue this wonderful perfume! Thanks - Marion

  • CAROLINE02/20/2002

I've tried Arpege three times now. And I am looking forward to getting my first bottle of it soon. I think it's one of the most Bombshell fragrances around. Not pungent, not too floral, not too spicy, just smooth and sexy!

  • MAGGIEMAE02/17/2002

I rec'd my first bottle of Arpege for my high school graduation and have never stopped wearing it. Don't know how many bottles I have gone thru but I've never gotten tired of it.

  • STEPHANIE01/23/2002

To me Arpege is a very "French"-smelling, classic fragrance. It's a floral with high powdery notes and uses a lot of the same notes used in many famous classics, like jasmine, rose, orange blossom, etc. About as classic of a scent as one can find. I think it's a beautiful scent.

  • I have used this perfume since 1961 and still love it. It wasn't discontinued, just harder to find in the U.S. I need a source for the soap and bath powder.

  • NORMA JEAN12/15/2001

i RECIEVED MY 1ST GIFT BOX OF ARPEGE 12 YEARS AGO FROM MY LOVER , IT CONTAINED A PERFUME OIL WHICH WAS OUT OF THIS WORLD . I BELIEVE THIS PRODUCT IS NO LONGER PRODUCED ( PROBABLY BECAUSE IT LASTED SO LONG !) I HAVE TRIED MANY OTHER PERFUMES BUT ARPEGE IS STILL MY FAVOURITE. P.S. TO V. IF YOU HAVE ARPEGE THAT YOU DO NOT USE BECAUSE YOU FIND IT DISGUSTING PLEASE CONTACT ME AND I WILL ARRANGE FOR YOU TO SEND IT TO ME .

  • HARRIET11/30/2001

My mother and I used this perfume years ago and loved it. I am glad to see that it has come back.

  • HISAKO NOJI11/26/2001

I used it when i was 19. For a while the perfume was discontinued. Now it's been back! Arpege is has light flower and bit fruity but not sweet at all. This is a masterpiece!! Noble and yet not snobbish. This is not a scent for not olny old but also for young though Arpege was first created in 1927.

  • DR ERIKA A KAHN11/24/2001

My mother wore arpege and it makes me feel close to her when I do the same.(she's dead so I dont want to smell the way she does now but...) I always get wonderful comments about the sophistication of the scent. I dont wear anything else. (ok, ok, occasionally I wear clothes but you know what I mean...)

  • LIZ10/09/2001

Arpege is one of the most beautiful sophisticated perfumes. every time I wear it I always get positive wondeful comments. It also reminds me of my beautiful mother.

  • P.M.C.09/27/2001

To V, 7/12/01, something is wrong with your nose!!! I received my first bottle when I was 17, 44 years ago and it is still my favorite.

  • KATE---EMAIL: [email protected]09/08/2001

i am trying to purchase arpege powder and have been told by NY distributor that it's difficult to find in US. I am going abroad and will be in duty free shops will they have it do you still make it? please contact me at [email protected] thanks

  • CATHERINE BENNETT07/17/2001

Why don't you carry larger bottles of Arpege, by Lanvin. like 3.4floz or 100ml?

  • V07/12/2001

YUCK, Arpege has got to be the most disgusting fragrance that I've ever smelled

  • DEWYBLUELOTUS05/23/2001
