Hiris is not so feminine that it cannot be worn by guys. Starts out with an earthy iris note - powdery with a touch of carrot. This eventually yields to a light floral/citrus heart that persists for a while, even if it doesn't project far off the skin. The Guide's poor ratings are unearned in this case - definitely one of the better iris based fragrances available.

Very elegant and clean scent. More complex than a one note fragrance. Lasts over one day for me. Hangs in the air. Sexy , sharp.

This fragrance in not really special, it's flowery type of fragrance. This fragrance smells like creamy soap slightly but if you smell it carefully what you smell actually a clear flowery notes.

I will try that next time I buy this fragrance. My house burned to the ground almost three years ago, jusst a few days after I wrote the last post, and I lost all my fragrances. I am in the process of replacing them. Any suggestions for some that smell as good as Hiris?

I have a trick for making light scents last! Spray on immidiately after towel drying from your morning shower. I do this sometimes as a layering effect if I want to wear more than one scent at a time. The one that I sprayed on freshly showered skin always out-lasts the others. It probably has to do with our Ph balance, I don't know but it works!!

Really wanted to try this for the iris so I did a squirt but really couldn't judge it since my nose was fried from smelling too much! So I'll have to give it another go--this is what I got- first I couldn't smell it, then I detected a nice, clean wet hidden floral--good for cool wet days--my mom sniffed and had 2 words--"evening perfume" So I'll give it another go and maybe let y'all (heh heh) know what I think.

Discovered Hiris today. It blows me away! Sooooooooo good! It has the exact type of clean smell that I have been searching for in perfumes but could never find. This one is exactly 100% perfect for me. Blends with my skin chemistry perfectly. Love it!

I love this scent. I have gone through 5 bottles in the last 3 years. When I first smelled it, it reminded of dirt...very earthy...but the saleslady said you'll be back...and as I was walking to go home I got another wiff and I turned around and went back into the store and bought it. The scent does change after its been on and it is never overwhelming. I do enjoy many perfumes and spend way to much of my pay checks on all the newest scents that catch my nose, but I would have to say this is my favorite.

I fell in love with this perfum the very first time I smelled it... it's very chic, fresh, but a bit woodsy, which makes it really unique. I totally recommend it!

I loved this in the store and thought it was delightful on. However, after half an hour it was entirely gone. A relatively expensive fragrance as you have to keep it with you and spray continuously!

I have read all of the wonderful comments regarding this perfume. I love it, myself, but I can not get it to last from my house to my office. The scent is wonderful. I would love to wear it all the time, but absolutely no one can smell it, and that is after I have practically bathed in it. Any ideas? ( I have even sprayed my clothing - nothing helps).

I adore this scent. So glad I purchased a large bottle as I'll be wearing it a LOT. So fresh and clean. The iris comes through-a note of "green". WONDERFUL.

Although still not my favorite scent, I have decided I like Hiris much more than when I originally posted. When I am in the mood for a soft floral, this one does nicely. I still have to wait a bit for it to settle on me, but I am happy to wear it. I work in a small office and try not to offend anyone and I work very closely with a male who has allergies so I have to be careful. This is a pretty, feminine and subtle scent that I started to wear in early spring and lately in the hot weather. It smells fresh, powdery and clean. It doesn't smell like any other floral, so it is hard to compare it to other perfumes. Just the inital spritz ireminds me of Lauren, a fragrance I don't care for. I think that people who really love perfume and analyze them (posters on perfume sites!) could pick out the powdery iris note. Most everyone else on the planet would think this is a soft, lightly sweet, fresh floral.

This is a bit too masculine for my taste. I found an elegant, feminine iris fragrance called Blue Iris by Perlier. It is beautiful! Softly sweet, softly floral, just lovely. It is available on Home Shopping Network. I have tried the dusting powder only, not the eu de toilette yet. The eau de toilette is available as a kit which includes a summer straw bag, dusting powder, shower gel, hydrating body cream, hydrating hand cream, and a sachet with a large silk rose. The price is under $80. Perlier products are known in Europe for the best bath and body for healthy hydrated skin. Try Perlier especially the Blue Iris, which I love!

everything by hermes (bags, scarves, scents) has a dry, showy, harsh edge i don't like and this perfume was no exception. there was a little lovely floral going, but the ambrette -- leathery, harsh, bitter -- stomped all over it. i can see why some people would like it, but i didn't, not just specifically on me, but in general.

Iris. that's IT. In spite of claiming to contain other notes, that's all it dries down to. It's pleasant enough, but nothing special.

I think Hiris must be one of the most original and amazing fragrances I have ever smelled... It's very fresh and "clean" smelling yet is has a softness to it and a earthy feel to it, just lovely! It's not at all overpowering yet it lingers all day...

I've read the postings claiming Hiris is a unisex fragrance -- if you visit www.hermes.com you'll see it is marketed as a feminine fragrance only. This has become a favorite of mine because of its unique interaction with my body chemistry. I receive more compliments about Hiris than any other fragrance I've tried. Sometimes you DO get what you pay for -- Hermes uses a high percentage of expensive essential oils/fewer artificial scents. This is why it smells so different as it develops on the skin, compared to just whiffing the bottle. You've got to wear this one to decide for yourself!

I just don't see how any men would want to wear Hiris...I personally would not want my fiance' to wear this perfume...it's definately very feminine and I just don't smell anything masculine in it....I love Hiris very much on me...but I strongly doubt that this would smell nice on a guy!!I don't believe Hiris to be a unisex frangrance at all!!!But that's just my opinion...

I am surprised it is marketed as unisex, as i find it very feminine. Light Iris, not as heavy as no 19 and also less powdery. The drydown is much sweeter then no 19 and on me very long lasting. Very pretty ladylike soft floral.

Iris is a rare and unique fragance. Is strong and fresh in the same time. Is no so artificially because my cat love it, just the same as flowers.

Just to let you all know that Hiris fragance it is for men also.

I was fascinated by Hiris. It's sleek dark and opaque blue bottle....it's elegant appearance as well as its name..its two-piece orange box.... After reading other reviews on this board about this fragrance, I felt even more curious about it. Some of you found Hiris to be a souless fragrance...or nothing special anyway...the very first thing I noticed when I smelled it was its uniqueness...this is NOT one of those boring perfumes!It's clean, fresh and elegant...very sophisticated. Of course the iris plays the major role in this scent, and that's why it's the first note you'll pick up. I'm always looking for perfumes that DO NOT smell like others...that are original and unique in their own way. Hiris will surprise you and unlike some people have said, I don't find anything medicinal or chemical in it!! I'd find much more chemicals and cloying, artificial ingredients in Amarige by Givenchy...that truly is a disgusting fragrance, but Hiris...oh no...we're talking about a high end,superior perfume. Hiris is for those people who can appreciate fine fragrances. Mary

I purchased this after reading so many good reviews-but I wish I could have tried it first. I probably would not have bought it. It has a wonderful drydown and for my body chemistry-it's the best part. I hate the way this smells after first spraying. It has a sharp green note that reminds me of Polo by Ralph Lauren and is very overwhelming.It takes several hours before I start enjoying the scent. I'm glad I bought a small bottle. I use this on my sheets as a linen spray, mostly. I really think this is a fragrance that either works with you or not. It just doesn't do it for me. The packaging is first rate and makes an excellent gift. I would reccomend that you try before you buy. I really wanted to like this!!!

It smells fresh and imperial, but I'd never buy this - when I wore it, it immediately conjured up an image of a fresh, imperial woman with no soul.

Hiris has a very fresh refined elegance to it. Reminds me of a spring day after a shower has cleansed the air. In my opinion, I find it more pleasing than 24 Faubourg or Caleche (although I like Caleche also). It most certainly does not have a medicinal or pesticide odor to it. Well done, Hermes.

E-R-O-T-I-C! (because one has to get so close to smell the powdery,musky scent that one would HAVE to get some seriously wicked and inapropriate ideas...that is,if one knows how to treat a lady...)

This is very subtle and elegant and clean. It can be used at any time of the day or year. I'm sure this will become a classic scent. Smells like ever so lightly sweetened fresh air.

I've always been on the lookout for an interesting fragrance. Usually, most fragrances for men seem to be composed of a rather limited range of notes, take lavander for example. Enter Hiris, clean-smelling and neutral enough to be enjoyed by both sexes which is centered around the single note of the subtile iris flower. Brilliant and an excellent in its simplicity indeed. Highly recommended for those who seek an alternative fragrance that's surely a fine new classic.

I love it! I have been wearing it for a couple of years now. I don't like sweet perfumes, so this one is wonderful for me. I get compliments on it too. I also love Que Viva, by Escada.

I bought this because I wanted an Iris-based fragrance. I sampled it at Sephora and found it to smell of iris. Good: green; foresty; woody; fresh air; light floral. Bad: bittersweet; lays flat; hint of 'Raid'. Other comments: passes as a unisex fragrance. A bit powdery.

I love this stuff. I go thru it like water. I Get compliments everytime I where, from men and women.

This is 'perfume'? It smells very chemically or medicinal. Just awful!

Recently sitting beside a lady wearing Hiris and asked her what perfum she was wearing and she said Hiris. I told a friend and he gave me a bottle and it is wonderful, the best I have ever worn.

It is awful. I haven't smelled a fragrance as horrible as Hiris.

I recently received Hiris for Christmas. Absolutely wonder scent, light yet engulfing. Not flowery and overbearing. A great buy for that special woman in your life. Thank you Honey!
