  • LAUREL02/06/2013

Oh where, oh where have you gone??? I swear I would pay double if you bring it back! It is the best!

  • ANNA MARIE02/24/2012

You'd have to be a long,dark-haired and dark-eyed woman to really get this one across - dark, sweet, mysterious, edgy, HEAD-TURNING. It was d/c'd because most women buy the cookie-cutter, fruity, floral, pinkie, smells... I still have some body cream, the edp and I just found the big bottle of lotion on another site. He will PINE for you after being close to you while wearing this. If you can find it, grab it- but only if you're exotic and tragicly sexy!

  • RAJUL08/31/2010

this fragrance is definately incensey but the total lack of any sweet touch bothers me.......makes it harsh. while incense sticks smell amazing as is, i prefer body perfume to be well rounded, balanced , with a touch of sweet.

  • AQUARIAN10/29/2008

Must be the Patchouli....wore it in the sixties...the unisex character is a plus. Does anyone remember when coeds wore "Canoe"?

  • DEE RICH02/20/2008

This is a spicy scent that works best for a woman in tune with her body, not afraid of walking on the wild side;unique, sexy, smokey with a hist of mystery. Oriental/spicy at it's best.Try it you won't be sorry .

  • JOANNAH12/13/2007

I didn't think I'd like it after testing the Be Delicious and finding that I didn't like it but this one was so pleasant right from the beginning and even though I sampled more scents at the same time than is usually recommendable, this is the one that lasted the longest and stuck out right from the beginning and I mean that it the most positive sense. I can't say it impressed in the bottle but my chemistry really likes it. Sadly, it's too late to put it on this year's wishlist and I'm broke so I can't afford to buy it for myself. It's going to be a very high priority next year!

  • BARBARA W12/05/2007

Just out of curiosity, I layered Black Cashmere with Gaultier 2, and it's fantastic! The Gaultier gives BC a creamy sweetness, and the BC gives Gaultier an incense kick. Love it.

  • BARBARA IN OR11/06/2007

Ah yes, I totally agree with FRAGRANCE JUNKIE I too just can't stop smelling it! It is intoxicating!!! The only other scent that I love is Parfum Sacre but it's very hard to find here in OR!!

  • BARBARA W11/01/2007

What a great fragrance, but probably not for the average consumer. Top notes smell like Indian spices baking on hot sand, then it slowly morphs into a creamy sandalwood/incense finish. I live in New England, and the base notes smell of autumn here...crisp air, wood smoke, and the slightly sweet smell of earth and fallen leaves. The effect throughout is dry - this is not gourmand in any way, and it wears very close to the skin. Worth a try if you enjoy unusual, incense-type fragrances. I enjoy it over a base of vanilla lotion for a touch of sweetness.

  • JILLAINE09/03/2007

Please also try NIRVANA by Tova. They are both so similiar!!! If you love this one, you will also love Nirvana. Happy sniffing!! :)

  • SYLVIE06/28/2007

Black Cashmere starts powerful, but the nice dry-down did not last. Black Cashmere stands too close to the skin and after max. 2 hours the scent has gone. :-((. So I gave my bottle away. I prefer oriental fragrances with better staying power. Happy sniffing, Sylvie.

  • CARLA05/22/2007

TO DIE FOR. HAVE BEEN GOING CRAZY SINCE I RAN OUT. SOON I WILL REMEDY THIS SITUATION. BEST SCENT FOR ME SINCE "FRACAS"

  • IONE05/18/2007

A new favorite, but surely not for everyone. It smells like church incense and patchouli, one squirt might be enough :)

  • JULIE03/28/2007

I ordered the original Mania, by the reviews on here, and to me, not at all the same. I don't even think Mania smells incensey at all, has a spicey flowery smell, gave it to my Mom. Was extremely disappointed. With Black Cashmere, liked it at first, then got bored, and nauseous. Sent it to my friend in N.Y., now I am sorry, because I don't talk to this girl anymore, and kind of miss having it around. Oh well.

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE03/09/2007

Once again, thanks to my friend Rosaria in Brazil, I have been introduced to a new scent, one I would not have likely tried had it not been for her! This fragrance is so different, so unique, I just can't stop smelling it! The only other scent in my collection which has this feel to it is Parfum Sacre, which is also a gothic, churchy scent, but it is a bit more floral and the incense notes take longer to develop. Black Cashmere is fabulous. A fall/winter scent to me. I will soon add it to my collection. Thank you Rosaria!

  • BRANDY02/26/2007

I love it. Very warm and cozy. Almost creamy with a twist of musk. I thought it couldn't get any better than cashmere.

  • APRILMAX12/20/2006

Black Cashmere is very different. It is sweet yet sensual, warm, spicy and smokey. It is a must have if you want something different and very grown-up. But definitely test it a few times first to be sure you can pull it off. It's not so much overpowering or heavy, but it's just very unique, and is for a confident, feminine woman. It has a lot of staying power too. I don't think it compares at all to Mania (some have said that, so just wanted to put my opinion in). It's worth a try if you want something that is unlike all of the "regular" stuff at the department store.

  • MARIO JUSTINIANI11/28/2006

This could be worn by a woman who is tired of over the top sweet-sugary scents or cutesy flowery. It could also be worn by a man. The requirements for either being that you've never had a cop pepper-spray you into submission, you do not take with antibiotics, and you're not allergic to massive doses of saffron mixed with incense. Glad so many of you get a warm fuzzy feeling out of this one. Wear it in good health---and preferably outdoors

  • LESLY11/14/2006

Yes, this does compare to Mania. Both are very woody, with smoky incense notes. I love both fragrances! These scents are not for teens or for those women who think wearing Pink Sugar is "just so cute!". This is for confident, well groomed women - no bleeding lipstick or chipped fingernail polish allowed.

  • ELE11/11/2006

HAS ANYONE TRIED THE ORIGINAL ARMANI MANIA? DOES THIS PERFUME SMELL SIMULAR? JUST CURIOUS. THANKS!!

  • GADJODILO11/02/2006

After reading so many positive reviews about Black Cashmere, I thought it would be a good idea to try it. And guess what? No doupt, this is the worst fragrance I've ever tried. Such a big disappointment!

  • MSDELI10/17/2006

I thought this smelled familiar too. It does smell like Kenzo. I only wear this one in the winter with soft fuzzy sweaters

  • MINIMI09/30/2006

fall & winter are near, so it is time to dust off my black cashmere! i went head over heels for this one about 3 years ago and have not been able to collect myself ever since when it comes to this scent. black cashmere is not a parfum, it is an experience! it is not for everyone, but that heavens it's for ME! thank you, donna karan, for the scentuality that is black cashmere!

  • STEVE09/02/2006

I just got a small bottle of Black Cashmere on the grounds that I love dark, smokey scents. All the talk of it being very masculine sparked my interest aswell. I'm not dissapointed with it at all, but it actually seemed a little too heavy on the smoke. It smells like a fireplace or a BBQ pit where someone had tossed in a bottle Comme des Garcons Series 2: Red CARNATION. It's kinda rustic but yet...sophisticated. There's a tar note in there that I pick up too. Creosote?....maybe? Although what I say above may sound bad, I actually like this fragrance and it seems very "rough and tumble"...very masculine! The wenge wood in this is great and the smokey labdanum (...one of my favorite notes in perfumery.)...makes this stuff incredible! So, Guys....if you want to try this, get a small bottle and try it out. It might become your favorite. And if someone asks you what it is that you'er wearing? ...tell them it's labdanum or Wenge. That's pretty close to what it is.

  • HARLEY-MAMA08/07/2006

This smells kinda like Jungle by Kenzo but, with some softer notes. Its good. First spray I get the peppery effect and some cinnamon. I will enjoy this in the cooler months

  • EVA08/07/2006

im not the type of girl that goes for top selling perfumes coz that means you can smell them on every second woman around. meeting a woman wearing the same perfume as u are is like meeting a woman wearing the same shirt as u are. that can happen w perfumes like gucci, CK, armani..but NOT black cashmere. this one is for extraordinary posh oriental queen..smells like exciting mystery

  • NASTASSIA07/12/2006

If you like incense or been inside of a church, then you'll love this perfume. True enough, some of the reviewers said that this one could be marketed as unisex because of the way it smells. And you know what? I like this one!

  • BARBARA W06/10/2006

Donna Karan will debut her new perfume, "Gold", in October. Notes are: Casablanca lilies, amber, sparkling acacia, white clove, jasmine templar, golden blossom, and East Indian patchouli. Sounds great to me! I can't wait to try Black Cashmere, too - it's my next purchase!

  • DINA 06/02/2006

This one is very sexy and romantic, My guy was just keep asking which one is this one, and every place i go same question with this one, I keep my secret.

  • ANGIE05/20/2006

I am the first one to say that any perfume that isn't girly girl or sickening sweet is my kind of fragrance. I bought this, and liked it at first, because it smelled like incense. By the second bottle, it kind of made me nauseous, so I stopped wearing it, that DOES NOT mean it isn't good. I bought NU because that was suppose to have similiar qualities, but less pungent, which is true, but it is kind of boring, on me. I love the black bottle (for Black Cashmere) it's sexy. Anyway, I give it credit for competing with all the trendy sugary scents that are out there now. Unfortunately, it didn't go over well in the stores. Too many girly girls...lol..

  • PERFUME-AHOLIC05/05/2006

I definitely believe this could indeed be pulled off by a guy! This scent is spicy and enticing and would work well for either gender. I don't absolutely LOVE it, as I do my Opium, but it's different and a welcome addition to any collector enjoying oriental fragrances

  • PAZZO03/26/2006

Totally love this one, but one problem, doesn't last on my skin, but last forever on the clothes.May be it lasts on skin too, but i just can't smell it after 15 mins or so.Does that mean that this is good choice for me?

  • STELLA03/26/2006

There just isn't a better one out there and that is a fact. This perfume is very seductive and very sexy. Men swoon when they smell this on me and my SO is nuts about it, he keeps sniffing after me like crazy when I wear BC. I will always buy it and always wear it. Can't go wrong with it!

  • VIOLET03/17/2006

so different and wonderful, I wish it lasted a little longer, but I'll put up with that for that fabulous scent! Not for the faint-hearted, wallflowers need not apply!!

  • CLAUDIA01/16/2006

this scent is not for conventional people, is for people that likes good things and not necesary comercial, this is not a conventional product, it's for people with real class...i really enjoy it, that's what it is for. =)

  • LUNA01/06/2006

Yes! I actually know someone that loves this on her boyfriend. So wear it and enjoy!

  • DEBI01/04/2006

LOVE this scent! My absolute favorite fragrance, and I have many. Beautiful, spicy, and daring. Definitely not for everybody, and not for the type that prefer light, airy scents.

  • PIERRE01/02/2006

Ladies, I smelt this at my local dept. store. I fell in love with this scent for myself, But I was wondering can a male pull this scent off? I thought so because of the wengue wood and patchouli, theyre strong elements in this where u barely smell the rose.

  • CHRISTINE12/28/2005

i'm addicted to this scent like a narcotic; it's long-lasting & goes through many different stages along the way. granted, it's not for everyone; it's a strong incense/woods scent. but for those lucky women who like it & with whom it agrees with their chemistry, wow. it's smoldering sex in a bottle.

  • STARBLUE11/24/2005

I do like it and wear it most of the time, but like others long for Chaos and make do with the nearest substitute.

  • RYMPLE09/30/2005

I fell in love with this fragrance as soon as I smelled it. I had worn Chaos by Donna Karen, and it was my favorite. Unfortunately, it was discontinued...I read somewhere the she retired Chaos when her husband passed away because he had created it for her...it was her favorite. (I don't know if that's true or not.) Anyway, I was so happy when I found Black Cashmere because the scent is almost identical to Chaos. I really hope this one stays on the market for a while...Enjoy!

  • ORIENTAL BABY09/22/2005

Black Cashmere is a very exotic, mystical oriental. Just what I was searching for! Reminds me of India and incense, which I love.

  • CEEBEE09/22/2005

i have been looking for a perfume that smells like this for years. it is just the right blend of spices without being too woodsy or masculine. the man i love is constantly smelling my skin, my hands, my clothes, anything i´ve touched to get a whiff of it. even strangers who get close enough comment on it. it´s truly irresistable.

  • MICELLE08/30/2005

BOTH MEN AND WOMEN LOVE THIS SCENT, I WEAR NOTHING ELSE, TOTALLY SOLD ON THIS PRODUCT, PEOPLE ASK ME WHAT AND WHERE CAN THEY BUY THIS!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOULOU07/25/2005

Black Cashmere is like the resin on my skin. The worst smell I've ever tried.

  • LAURA06/08/2005

This is a very feminine woody spicy floral that is not overpowering. It has enough of the floral to not be considered masculine. One of the best fragrances out there. If you like a total flowery or fruity fragrance this one is not for you.

  • WEREFOX04/05/2005

i had this bought for me a year ago for my birthday i absolutley love it

  • COURTNEY02/23/2005

I got a sample of this one, and as soon as I opened it, I was itching and sneezing! If you tend to have fragrance allergies, you will most likely have problems with this one! The scent has notes that are reminiscent of Cashmir by Chopard and Dolce Vita by Dior. But it is stronger than both. WAY too strong!

  • SR02/17/2005

This smells like something that should be marketed to men. There's nothing feminine about it AT ALL. Actually, it doesnt smell feminine and it doesnt smell masculine. It just smells nasty. Now that i think about it. It should be marketed to the "mole people". You know those fabled people that live below the streets of New York City? They supposedly live in the subway tunnels and sewer systems. They are the only people i can see wanting to wear this gross concoction.

  • BOB02/16/2005

I bought this perfume for my wife. She thought it was ok but wasn't crazy about the scent as she wore it. I in turn thought it was intoxicating when she wore it. One day I tryed some on and she thought it was awsome on me. I have been wearing it ever since incogneto. Every one that gets a wiff when I'm around thinks it's awsome and always asks what I am wearing. I just say it's something my wife got me. I like it because it's very subtle and consistent and doesn't over power you for the first couple of hours like a lot of colognes do.

  • BEBE02/04/2005

black cashmere is the bomb. fabulanced scent., WOW. the lotion is just as incredible. amazing stuff. awesome

  • ANDREW01/24/2005

Well, most of what was said is true: yes, it really is quite strong and heavy; yes, it is very unusuall and exotic; and yes, men do like it, since I'm the one and I use it for myself. So if you are looking for something fresh and girlish that would be a wrong choice, but for a hot evening it rocks!

  • JUDI W.**01/15/2005

Since I'm a child of the seventies, I was drawn to this scent. It reminds me of the smell that hit you when you walked into those funky shops in the village in NYC. You have to really like a musky-incensey kind of fragrance to really like this, but it probably would smell good on most women unless you like light, flowerey, fruity clean smells, then this definitely is not for you!!! Most men don't like fruity, flowery scents they like smoldering and sexy!

  • JUDI W.**12/30/2004

It smells like incense and shops in the village in NYC in the seventies. I was looking for it in Burdines where they used to sell it and the saleslady told me they stopped stocking it because it was "too dark" and wasn't selling well. Well, I said, "I guess I'm dark then because I like it and want to buy it, "she just looked at me and walked away somewhat embarrassed. Very smokey and exotic...not your everyone fragrance.

  • SHARRIE12/27/2004

had to get more of this divine inspiration. best. had to have a backup. my fav. exotic. enticing. transforming. wonderful

  • SYLVIE12/20/2004

...similar to the brandnew PRADA Eau de Parfum by PRADA. Please check it out ladies and let me know if you smell the similarity. Greetings.

  • CDARNELL12/19/2004

I hated it at first , BUT: When I wear Black Cashmere, men stay close by. Never had a man not love it, they notice and comment on the smell, always. asking what it is and where can they get some for their wife or girlfriend. I guess men love it better than women and that is why we wear perfume!

  • CDARNELL12/19/2004

When I wear Black Cashmere, men stay close by. Never had a man not love it, they notice and comment on the smell, always asking what it is and where can they get some for their wife or girlfriend.

  • SHARRIE12/05/2004

an eccentric divie scent from the heavens, spicy and tasteful.one of my favs the body lotion is awesome too, bravo.

  • KRISTIN11/05/2004

Wow...this one is very mysterious smelling, in the best ways possible. Very unique from anything I have smelled. Love it!

  • JT10/31/2004

This fragrance has such good ratings, that I wonder if I am the only one out there who has tried it on and smelled something like a mixture of black pepper in motor oil and cough syrup?? Sorry, but it was extremely strange smelling on me. I imagine (and hope) it smells better on other people!

  • SONYA 10/24/2004

I wanted a really unusual winter fragrance this year and was so bored with all the current fragrances available in the shops. Heard about this one tried it and at first spray it seemed strong. A couple of hours later I had forgotten about it but kept wondering what the fantastic smell was that was following me around. Of course it was Black Cashmere. Which had mellowed to a fantastic warm smokey scent. The best thing about is that no one recognises it but ppl love it. Its better than Opium and reminds me a little of an old Karl Largerfeld scent i think it was called KL. If you want something mysterious sexy and smouldering go for this one. Nothing else smells quite like it.

  • RHONDA10/12/2004

What year did this come out? I still can't find it in my area. I really want to try it. I like opium but it's alittle too strong. Do you think I would like this?

  • TANIA10/08/2004

it is a very sexual fragrance ... it reminded me a bit of organza indecence at first ( also a very erotic fragrance ) ... but black cash mere has a something , something else to it ... i de cided to take it to bed ... and let me tell you ... it sure does last , and last ...as did my husband ...all night long ... if you know what i mean

  • HELENA09/13/2004

Can't believe I loved it so much from the first sniff ! This stuff is magical ! Taking me to another place....many, many years ago....

  • SOMMIEL09/01/2004

This is a dead ringer for a perfume discontinued in the late 60's called chaos. I love it!

  • KIWI GAL08/13/2004

I love it. I am a scorpio and this fragrance compliments my personality. It is sultry, sexy, flirtatious, seductive and fun. Don't be fooled that the scent doesn't last. People comment on the perfume even when I think it has worn off.

  • RAINA07/10/2004

I really love this perfume. It reminds me of Opium (which I love also) but not as strong. I hope they don't discontinue it or I will have to stock up on it.

  • CHERYL DARNELL07/02/2004

Very much disapointed after reading the reviews...........smells like a dime store perfume...........no class at all!

  • MARIA06/01/2004

    perfect, special.

  • SUZANNE04/29/2004

My husband and I were in bed within minutes of him smelling this on me. HE said it was because I was looking so sexy and beautiful, AND smelling so wonderful. ( think it was the perfume because I was just wearing an old t-shirt, with my hair up in a bun!) THis is MY kind of perfume - smoky, deep, intense, woodsy, spicy - I love the saffron in the top note - it is a slightly medicinal smell but I have been wishing for years for a perfume with a saffron note, as the smell of high quality saffron drives me wild. Apparently it has the same effect on my darling husband! Five stars for this potent brew! (P.S. - For those sweet, nice, wholesome gals who just love a light, fresh, sheer, floral scent - STAY AWAY!)

  • JAKQUA03/31/2004

I BOUGHT THIS FRAGRANCE.....AND I REALLY DO NOT LIKE IT....I HAVE TO ADMIT WHAT MADE ME BUY IT WAS THE FACT THAT ONE OF THE LADIES DESCRIBED IT AS SMELLING LIKE "AFRICA" AND THE SINGER SEAL PROBABLY SMELLED LIKE THIS....AT THE TIME I READ THAT I WAS DATING MY NOW HUSBAND WHO IS AFRICAN AND I THOUGHT HMMMM, BUT I HAVE WORN IT AND HE HAS SMELLED IT AND NEITHER OF US LIKE IT......TO PUT IT IN A NUTSHELL, THE FRAGRANCE IS VERY OFF BEAT AND OVERDONE....

  • AMBER03/30/2004

i saw the sophisticated simple designed bottle and was taken by surprise the sent. it lingures on clothing for days and can entoxicate a crowd or just you boyfriend.

  • REINHILDE VANDEVELDE03/26/2004

A flacon like an onyx gem, mysterious as night with a deep sensual fragrance which carries you away on an exotic adventure full of danger and delicious sin...

  • MARY K.03/12/2004

WOW, what a warm, wonderful fragrance this is and so distinctive!! Very classy, sexy and worth every cent!! BEAUTIFUL....try it now!!!

  • MARILYN03/06/2004

I am addicted to it. It's definitely a winter fragrance & I love wearing during the holidays. I get a lot of compliments. It's getting so difficultto find. I heard it's being discontinued. How sad.

  • KAROLYNN02/15/2004

I really miss chaos-what ever happened to it..black cashmere is good..but it's not chaos

  • GAIA02/12/2004

It was a gift. At first I was disapointed but the oriental fragrances are unique. It is diffucult to wear .. but it is very good and original. Who knows what men will say about it !! ;-)

  • LOTTA01/28/2004

I agree with Gidi. I miss Chaos a lot. But after reading comments here I will give Black Cashmere a try. I hope it is not too "dark and heavy" - because i don´t like heavy scents. I have tried it once in the store and so far I liked it. Very much like I remember Chaos!!

  • JACQUA01/19/2004

I am just about this "- -" close to purchasing this fragrance. I would like to know if anyone has any other fragrances they can compare to this one so that I can get a better idea of what it smells like..... I am wondering if anyone is familiar with the fragrance Paloma Picasso? I get the idea this fragrance is similar.

  • SYLVIE01/14/2004

All Donna Karan perfumes are very special. I like outstanding and "old-fashioned" fragrances very much. Perfumes with a long tradition like Jicky, Shalimar or Youth Dew are my faves. I hate the most of the new, watery and synthetic headspace "mainstream-fragrances" with artificial ingredients in it. How nice that this new DK BLACK CASHMERE smells so warm, sensual and spicy. It's an opulent, complex, glamorous and fine balanced perfume. It reminds me on HALSTON-Z14 a very great men's cologne. Congratulation DK!! *****

  • TJAX12/28/2003

I love this scent its very sexy. i had cashmere mist, and i kept seeing ads for black cashmere so i had to try it. I couldnt find it any where so my husband ordered on line before we had even smelled it. i wasnt disapointed, its the best perfume i have smelled in years. needs to be more available.

  • MARYANNE12/22/2003

I'am not sure if the fragrance is for a man or a woman.

  • ELVE12/20/2003

It's the smell of old gothic, catholic churches in Poland. It's dark, deffensive, sad - as if God wasn't looking on our planet any more. Still, it's so energetic and balanced! Definitely a masterpiece :)

  • LAURA MATTESON12/08/2003

I just purchased this fragrance, and I absolutely love it! I haven't found a fragrance that I liked as much as this one in years. It's sure to be my favorite for a long time. My husband says it's a very warm smell, and he usually doesn't like most fragrances. If anyone asks me what it is, I'll have to lie as I don't want everyone wearing this one.

  • AISHA11/23/2003

I don't know what other thinks, but it's absolutely like the smell in Buddha temples. It resembles the smell of burning incense stick used in temples. I do love the it!

This is a very unusual scent. I really like to wear it on cold days, or on ski vacations. I does have staying power. My aunt absolutely loves this stuff. The smell is not a sweet fruity type of smell, but of a woodsy type of smell. One poster said it best when she described it as a roaring fire. It really does smell like a warm burning fire.

I love this one. I do. It's the darker, sexier side of the original Chaos, more spicy, more woody, more smokey. But I do miss Chaos. It was a little lighter, a little brighter, a little happier, a little greener...I used to get stopped on the street by strangers when I wore Chaos. I still have an empty bottle....I'm pining...but if I can't have Chaos, I'll console myself with Black Cashmere. I would love it if it had a little more staying power though.

Pachouli sandwiched by musk wrapped in pachouli. Why? A women's perfume that appeals to men. I expect that this is what grammy-winning artist SEAL smells like.

This by far is one of my most favorite perfumes. The sent is a rich combination of various spices and oils. It lasts all day and is intoxicatingly sensual. Reminds me of a roaring fire in an exotic locale.
