I never heard of this fragrance before receiving it as a gift 4 years ago. I love it!! It has a nice light rose scent that isn't overbearing and lasts a long time. I've been using it very sparingly so that it will last. Now I know where I can buy it and can use it more often.

  • ANGELIQUE06/19/2007

Pleasant, sweet, inoffensive - not as rosy as it could be, but there's no wow factor about it. I'll give it an average so. It's not bad, but nothing to write home about either.

I got a nice compliment from several co-workers on this one. This is not a heavy rose, but it has just the right combination to make it just right!

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE05/03/2005

Wanted to try this for years but was afraid it would be too rosy. Well it's not! What a great, unique scent. Very different, quite complex. Lasts well too. I'm lovin' it and glad I took a chance on it!

I tried this one today but I didn't buy it. Anyway, the gift set is lovely and I will consider it next time. I agree this is good for spring & summer. For the upcoming winter, I choose a heavy floral scent.

  • DINI12/13/2003

I forgot to add that the bottle is shaped the way it is because Rykiel is famous mostly for her knit sweaters.

Did you try Stella (roses & amber)? Nice, natural, modern and refreshing. I don't like rose scents ( I don't even like typical floral scents), but Stella is something special - I bought the bottle immediately but I keep it for spring, it is the scent that is IMO better for a lovely spring and summer weather... Good luck!

I just bougt Rykiel Rose, because it was on sale. Normally I like oriental scents, but I really enjoy this one too. It doesn´t smell of fresh roses, which I don´t like in a scent, but is very warm and feminin. Not at all average or boring. Thumbs up for Rykiel Rose.

  • BMARIE09/16/2003

I like the bit of rose scent here. I don't always like a rose type fragrance to be just that: I also like when it's something more. Perfect for hot summer days!

I was really excited about getting this, thought I would really love it, but I put it on and it just stunned me! I can't stand it!! I don't know about it smelling like roses because I have never smelled a rose that smelled like this perfume (thank goodness)!! I really can't say what I am smelling, but I am sorely disappointed in this perfume (anyone want to buy a bottle for a good price??).

If you like roses - try the new YSL Limited Edition "Paris", I think you could like it!!! There's the matching Body Lotion (limited edition, too) which is very nice. Bye!

  • LAUREL05/12/2003

I checked out Rykiel Rose; you were so right. Very generic, sweet and boring. On to try some of your own rec's, then! Appreciate the input :)

  • SARAH03/19/2003

Laurel, YSL's "Paris" is famous for its roses smell. This is classic and elegant perfume with excellent staying power (you have EDT and EDP, I don't know for the pure perfume)...Also Paloma's Picasso "Mon Parfum" has bulgarian roses in it. "Paris" is more in a category of pure florals and Paloma Picasso is a chypre perfume. As far as I heard the PURE smell of roses (as a fragrance - I don't think on the buqet of flowers) is never very pleasant - it should be mixed with other notes to be alluring. And about Rykiel "Rose" - I think it is quite plain with a very weak staying power.

I've lately been looking for a clean, fresh-cut rose scent myself, preferably not too many other notes, not too sweet. I did like Tea Rose for a long time, but now I was hoping to find something in the red rose category. Got any hints in this direction anyone? And thanks Mary for your helpful post - L.

I really wanted to like this very much! But I was quite disappointed by it...the only things I liked about it were its bottle and its box...the fragrance is so depressingly common that is almost unreal...when you smell this you don't find anything exciting, unique or wonderful about it. I love roses and after reading some of the reviews on this website, about this particular fragrance, I decided to go ahead and buy this perfume...big mistake! This, to me, is just a very plain flowery perfume...I don't detect any pure roses scent...If I want the scent of pure roses, I might be better off with smelling a real rose or with buying a rose essential oil bottle. I wanted to try the other Sonia Rykiel's fragrances but now I am not sure I will...or I might want to get my hands on some samples before splurging on the big bottle and being disappointed with it. If you like common scents...this one if for you...

  • HANA05/11/2002

It changes the smell after a while (to something sweet you can hardly detect) and doesn't last... A pitty, because the smell of roses I noticed at first was nice and very feminine, so I expected more.

  • ANGELA04/19/2002

It does smell like pure roses, which I love.

  • VALERIA04/17/2002

It's nice, I can smell a light, not too strong scent of roses... A bit sweet, but not too much. Soft, warm, I like it.

  • NURSEPEBBLES02/16/2002

The poster that stated this smells like roses could never have smelled "Tea Rose"..that smells like roses..I could not detect and rose scent and actually not much of a scent at all...was NOT happy with this one:(

  • NIKKI02/06/2002

The reason her bottles look like shirts is because she is a famous sweater designer and she wanted to carry it into her fragrances. They are cute and unique and the fragrances are nice as well.

  • PETRINA12/10/2001

i love this fragrance!...really smells of roses...pure roses...

  • JOLENE10/20/2001

I don't own a bottle of this, but I've smelled it in the stores. It's a nice, good-smelling fragrance, but the tacky t-shirt bottle has gotta GO! What was Sonia Rykiel thinking when she designed the bottle? Perhaps she wasn't thinking.

  • NONI10/09/2001

right now i'm looking at my reddish pink box of babydoll next to my reddish pink box of rykiel rose thinking i really don't know what to think.oh yes i do whats the diference? rr by a nose.
