  • CHRISTINE BUNCE12/28/2011

This was a Christmas gift, a perfume my sister didn't think she would see again it being discontinued, so her surprise and pleasure rates this as EXCELLENT for me.

  • GAYLA/DALLAS, TX12/09/2008

I really smell the incense in this. I love it! This is very long lasting and different. Not very many people know about this one, so you're likely to be the only one wearing it. That's one thing to like about it for sure because you won't smell like everyone else.

  • RYAN AGAIN12/12/2007

Ok, like I said before, I love this hot and fresh orchid incense scent and I think the bottle is very cool . . . like a full silvery-blue moon. However, it is the actual sprayer that I hate. On my bottle, it sprays out in a straight line of liquid as opposed to a fragrance cloud like all of the others I own. So, I end up with a literal drippy wetness on my skin wherever it is applied. Is it just my bottle? Or, has anyone else noticed this?

  • BARBARA W10/12/2007

If you like Nu (created by Tom Ford) or other scents that are unique, try his newest, Black Orchid. Like Nu, you MUST try Orchid on skin and give it time to develop before making a final decision. It will shock you upon first blast, but give it time. It's rich, sexy, earthy, sweet, incensey and smokey, and lasts FOREVER. Yes, it's expensive, but for once I didn't mind paying a high price for a perfume. Bottle is stunning, too, and it's opaque so you can actually display it without worrying about light ruining the juice. If you're ready for something unique, try it!

  • ALLYSA10/03/2007

Like most other YSL fragrances, this one is a very mysterious fragrance, so exotic, deep, and sensual.

  • RYAN09/25/2007

I must say when I first tried this I didn't like it. I basically smelled this raunchy smoky smell on the card that the saleslady sprayed. When in the store a few days ago, I decided to give it another sniff. Wow what a difference! It smelled totally different to me. I sprayed a little on my wrist and ended up buying a 1.6oz bottle of the EDP, which I've read here is more of a masculine smelling scent. I am a guy and decided to purchase this. I've been wearing it the past few days and have fallen completely in love with it. Now, I smell the incense, bergamot and the spices. I even smell some of the orchid in it, but it is not at all girly and flowery. The orchid just seems to add a little fresh kick to the whole experience. Quickly becoming my new favorite and I got it at an awesome price. Guys, don't be fooled you too can wear this scent.

  • JUVENTAS01/31/2007

before i treid this i was a baby cologne fresh kinda girl. i think after NU, i came into my own fragrance wise. Bolder, deeper, darker and provocative. this scent made people (even other women) stop and say they liked my scent. truly a little goes a long way, clothes still have a lingering trace even after laundry!!

  • MUSE11/15/2006

This perfume showed promise when I first smelled it. I liked the spicy, woodsy notes and got excited over the potential. When it dried down I kept smelling my wrist trying to place the very odd note that I kept picking up. I couldn't quite place it. I finally concluded that it was a rubber like note that was very unappealing to me. My the time I had sniffed my way to my rubber conclusion I was nauseated. I must say Nu way to this one. Not for me.

  • **HEATHER**08/08/2006

This is too heavy and sweet. It gives me a headache! With this scent remember that a little goes a long way!

  • GREEKGIRL07/18/2006

I also think this one can be unisex, reminds me of a cold winters wood on the drydown, also reminds me of Dolce Vita a little. Mixing this sounds interesting, ill have to try it!

  • GL07/05/2006

I agree with Lisa--this perfume is great for mixing. It has rather strong base notes, and will go nicely with other strong floral notes. It is nice on its own too.

  • *BARBARA W06/02/2006

Nu can swing both ways, for sure, but that's not a bad thing. Not all women want to smell like a flower bed or a candy shop, and most of the men I've talked to agree that they're just not sexy. As with other innovative, not stereotypically feminine scents, I think it takes some time to appreciate this one. I agree with Judi that I just LOVE that it's NOT another syrupy sweet confection, and that alone garners appreciation from me. It has lots of sandalwood, which I like, but I kept thinking there would be more spices involved, so I didn't love it immediately, but it has grown on me. I think this is what Opium might smell like if you removed most of the spice notes. You need some confidence and maturity to pull this off, though - I don't think the under 30 crowd should attempt this one (I'm 39). Just remove your preconceived notions and try this with an open mind. It's sexy and different. I'm going to wait to rate it until I've lived with it a bit longer. Ciao!

  • JUDI W*05/15/2006

I just received this today in the parfum & it's pleasant but not exciting as I thought it would be. My chemistry is so strange lately, that EVERYTHING turns sweet on me. This is sort of an incense smell, but I don't know, turns a little powdery on me. At least it doesn't smell flowery, fruity, or candy like, HOORAY!!!! So for that reason alone, that's nice. We'll see, it may grow on me, and I might end up REALLY liking it! At least it doesn't turn me off, like the Todd Oldham I ordered, P.U., that stuff is sweeeet, and annoying, oh well.

  • ANAND04/07/2006

Very long lasting. Fresh exotic fragrance. Smell of Sandalwood prevails. Strong enough to attract attention. It is an unisex perfume.

  • SYLVIE02/09/2006

Hi Maya, here I am back again! I can tell you: It was hard to find NU in Germany... I have the impression that they have already discontinued this new (2001) fragrance. (Poor Tom Ford! Long live Monsieur Yves Saint Laurent!!!)I tested NU now and sorry Maya, I don't like it. I always compare the new scents with the classic, old masterpieces (Porsche and MERCEDES). I like very strong and unmistakeable, unique fragrances. Warm, pleasant, inviting and ultra-feminine or sophisticated "green+clean" and refined (Scherrer 1). I get tired of testing all the new "stuff" like a bloodhound - really. I think I'm getting too old for all the new ones on the market... Paris Hilton, 5 fragrances from JLO, Britney Spears etc. etc. - who the hell... Here a Osmoz subscription for NU: "With Nu, Tom Ford perpetuates the history of the Saint Laurent House. The Nu Woman is an enigmatic seductress, full of mystery and very subtle. Discreet and sensuous, Nu is a modern yet timeless fragrance. Perfume description: Out of incense absolute rises an androgynous base, spellbinding and ardent. Woody and spicy scents add intensity and sensuousness. The middle note is a climaxes of feeling with a touch of freshness enhanced by wild orchid and sparkling bergamot." - I agree: Too discreet for me. No climaxes of feeling... I like breathtaking diva-fragrances ;-). Category: Love or hate. Nice to hear that you love LouLou by Cacharel. Greetings from Germany, Sylvie.

  • MAYA01/17/2006

In fact there are two different scents; there is the EDT: (Bergamot, White Orchid, Jasmine Absolute and Incense Absolute); and EDP: (Bergamot, Wild Orchid, Incense Absolute, and Sandalwood) which are quite different from each other. And, I really like them both, but do prefer EDP! EDT is slightly more 'feminine' if you will... AKA not as, (dark and mysterious in my opinion), as EDP (which again I do prefer for myself). But, they are both quite rich and sultry scents that leave you feeling like a mystery waiting to be solved... Mystery... many will attempt... but very few if any will ever solve! So!!! When just in the right 'mood' and you decide to treat your body and senses with something a little out of the bounds of the ordinary... you spray NU on your bare skin and the image of what that woman who wears this scent will look like just appears before your eyes... Raven black hair, deep red lips... (if you have raven black hair, you can get away with wearing deep ruby nail polish too ;) ... and then the sexy black lace undergarments over which only leather will suit the scent of YSL NU in my opinion. So on go the tight black leather pants, and a formfitting black shirt and then... And NU swirling like an alluring goddess out of your every pore with the power to create and power to destroy with merely just a smile... But perhaps NU is entirely something else to other woman, to me however, IT IS WHAT IT IS!... But... (It always makes me feel sexy in a most dark, seductive and mysterious ways... like I said, I cannot wear it without a pair of leather pants LOL)...

  • ROS01/12/2006

The Nu that is in the blue bottle gender classification is a source of controversy. Some people say its for women, others say its for men. Also, some websites, the very few that sell it i might add, say list it for women while others say its for men. I got my bottle from a website that says the Nu in the bottle is for men. Either way, enjoy its lush spicyness.

  • LISA01/11/2006

Finally, a rich & feminine spicy fragrance that isn't too sweet on the drydown. My man likes this one best, but I have to have variety.. but Nu is great for mixing too, I can use a little with my other scents to make them work for evenings. I like to wear Noa Fleur, Bandit or Marc Jacobs more often than Nu, but I am so glad I found it to spice up the nightlife! (Opium and Obsession just turn into powdery sweet stink on me)

  • NEVENA12/03/2005

EDT vs EDP Very nice and light woody incense concoction with a right amount of sweetness. The EDP is different from the EDT and does not open with a pungent peppery note.I personally prefer the EDP to the EDT. It's not a complicated scent, very light and pleasant, but unfortunately does not last long on me, or at least not as long as the vanilla fragrances do. The scent is undetectable in the winter cold, so I'll give it a try again in spring or summer.does not smell like Samsara, which is for me the greatest scent composed around sandalwood, but reminds me of Samsara when it dries down (the sandalwood). I'm surprised of the comments stating it's strong, because people never even notice I'm wearing it (and hubby and son have trained noses). I love the bottle!!!!! With two little perfume lovers at home (DS 4y, DD 2y) I've had many broken bottles. Not this one!!!! Not even after falling 30 times from the fridge, where I keep it "safe" fm little hands. this one and Rive gauche are great bottles for households with small kids and cats!!!

  • PARFUMCHASER11/24/2005

THE FIRST TIME I SMELT THIS SCENT I THOUGHT IT WAS FOR MEN, THEN , FOR MY SURPRISE, I CAME TO KNOW THAT IT'S FOR WOMEN. ANYWAY, IT SMELLS GREAT! JUST THE KIND I LIKE. WARM, REFINED AND SEXY. GIRLS LUV IT ANYTIME I USE IT. I NEVER TELL IT'S WOMEN'S. GOD FORBID! HOWEVER, GIRLS, IF U DON'T WANT IT, GUYS DO. THERE'S A BLUE VERSION OF IT AND I JUST WONDER IF THIS ONE IS FOR MEN OR IT'S JUST A NEW PRESENTATION OF THE SAME SCENT. CAN ANYBODY TELL ME?

  • KALILA10/12/2005

I love NU because Nu defines a new Saint Laurent woman:mysterious, complex and always in control. From the scent itself to the strikingly unconventional bottle, Nu is steeped in designer Tom Ford's modern vision. The fragrance itself reveals its contrasting facets gradually & mysteriously. Incense absolute makes for a vibrant, intriguingly androgynous base; wood and spice notes create layers of intensity and sexuality,a heart of wild orchid and sparkling bergamot top notes add emotion and freshness. Nu is luxury and femininity with no concessions.

  • THE/TEMPTRESS10/03/2005

Nu is rich, mysterious, luxurious, enchanting. It's a woody oriental scent that hides nothing yet gives no secret away. Nu is a warm, deep scent and I agree it is just perfect for winter or fall when the air is crisp and this scent just comes to life. I doubt I would or could wear it in the summer heat however. Now as far as comparing it to other fragrances is concerned, it does remind me of Black Cashmere when you first apply it. I absolutely love Black Cashmere but find it harder to wear than Nu. I can also see why someone thought that it smells similar to Dune, but I have to disagree there. Other than the fact that both have a strong scent of sandalwood in them I see no other resemblance, although Dune drives that sandal scent, in my opinion to far, whereas Nu is just perfect! I can also see where some women would think it slightly too masculine, but really after the dry-down that is gone. I was a little apprehensive to apply it before going to the office in the morning, and went back and forth on the decision the first time, but once I applied it I knew it was the right decision. I love it!

  • STEVE09/20/2005

This scent is very unisex...leaning more towards masculine than feminie. It has a very smokey, incensey quality to it. Similiar to Black Cashmere by Donna Karen, but i like the Nu better.

  • KATE08/29/2005

Interestingly enough that all messages here one can divide into two groups: people who definitely like it and who absolutely dislike it. I am in the fist group - I love it, though I do not like any other Yves fragrances - they all so old and disgusting. I just wonder how they managed to make this one, probably a new team is more creative then the old one. That's why we have here two groups with opposite opinions. The old fragrance lovers just can not follow such dramatic changes in a new style.

Match the rainy weather today with it´s woody, spicy, heavy caracter but it´s fresh at the same time which is rare. Can´t understand that NU have got such a low avarege rating, it´s a lovely scent! Have it on today and sniff my wrists constantly. Edp has good stayingpower too.

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE05/03/2005

Love this woody, spicy fragrance, but what a dumb dispenser. Another fragrance that won't stay put in the perfume drawer. What is wrong with these designers? Couldn't they at least flatten the base so it doesn't roll around everywhere?

  • JEFF04/26/2005

I was shopping with my girlfriend & a sales associate handed her a sample card of NU, my girl said it smelled like a guys cologne & handed it to me, I smelled it & agreed that it was really masculine, then I (unfortunately) I had the associate spray (one spray) of it on my wrist. WOW! This stuff is STRONG! It smelled kind of good, definitely masculine, spicey, kind of like "Old Spice" aftershave. I even joked that i thought it was even a little bit too masculine for me! After a while it smelled a bit medicinal to me, my girl agreed, she said it reminded her of a dentists office. It burned my nose & overpowered my sense of smell, I couldn't smell anything else at all, it was still Sooooooo strong. About an hour or so later It lost its spicey masculine scent & turned really headache inducing, nauseating, nasty, cheap perfumey "old lady" scent. YUCK! My girlfriend laughed & laughed at me, said I smelled of a Grannys panty drawer :o( I wasn't happy. I tried to scrub it off in the mall bathroom but it still lingered. I couldnt wait to get home & scrub it off of me. OMG! AWFUL! :o(~

  • ARWEN03/28/2005

Personally I find NU pretty sexy, as for Black Casmere, it is not available in my country. I still have Chaos, though, which I believe was the original version of Black CASHMERE

  • LINDA03/19/2005

I recived a gift certificate a couple of years ago that I spent on perfum. I like orientals, LOVE Mitsuko by Guerlain. I ended up buying Opium. It's a lovely perfum but there was something missing ... I had also tried Nu but thought it wasn't quite right. I ended up buying Nu and it's gorgeous. I have to say that it doesn't last as long on me compared to Mitsuko or Coco Channel.

  • PERFUME LOVER03/09/2005

I have several fragrances by ysl, but i think this one is more of a unisex fragrance, don't like it. Black Cashmere edp. by Donna Karen much better. If you like spicy fragrances give Black Cashmere a try.

  • MARILEE01/13/2005

I can't imagine what they were thinking when they came up with the ridiculous bottle for Nu - it's definitely the ugliest ever! That said, the scent itself is wonderfully different; sharply spicy, but develops and sweetens up on dry down and lasts! Love it!

  • KELLY12/30/2004

This should have been made for men! I don't know how much manlier the men version of NU is, but the female's version is too masculine for me. Very spicy, woody, and sharp. Not in a good way like Obsession for women is, which I LOVE for those winter nights!

  • SHARRIE12/25/2004

a new sensation. ageless but young at heart. awesome. inspirational. bring in the new out with the old. wonderful.

  • MELINDA12/21/2004

I have been wearing Paloma Picasso for years and recently was given a sample of NU, love it... wore it and now I have added it to my choice of scents. It is heavy, haunting and rich. Great for winter and evening events. It has turned men's heads, and I sure have enjoyed the "Nu" attention I have gotten wearing it.

  • AMADAN7410/29/2004

This has so much pepper in it, it could be used as mace! I wouldn't say Nu is unisex since I don't think men should where this either. Why would anyone!

  • DIEFRAU6020209/11/2004

I first thought it was a men's cologne, I even asked the retail associate, but after wearing it for an hour it adjusts to your chemistry and for me it is great.

  • KIM06/23/2004

I love the Nu body cream as I tend to stay away from the actual perfumes. Nu is sooo sexy and clean and it lasts and lasts.

  • MGARIS05/28/2004

To me, this is a love it or hate it, fragrance. I happen to love it. But it's not for everyone. It strikes me a unisex, although there is a men's version: Nu Homme, which is on the market in Europe. It smells almost like the original, except a little less explosive. I find Nu to be sexy and haunting . . . more for evening, and also for cooler weather. My suggestion is to try it: the more you wear Nu, the more it charms.

  • AGIRL04/05/2004

WHAT A SHAME THAT A UNIQUE SCENT LIKE THIS COMES IN SUCH A HORRIBLE AND CHEAP PRESENTATION

  • CAROLYN02/17/2004

.... by Dior. I really want to like this scent, it just doesn't *click* with me.

  • PELIN01/24/2004

I think it's good. But when u first smell it it smells like a men's cologne..

  • MARY12/01/2003

This fragrance is wonderful, alluring and fresh. Always receive compliments and does not overpower. I was unable to buy it locally for the past year and had to get it in Europe. Glad to find it on line.

  • MICUTZA11/12/2003

Depends very much of the skin PH I suppose, because on me smells so different (more sweet and nicer) than on a friend of mine. Anyway is genuine, interesting fragrance.

  • CAROLYN11/11/2003

If you can find a scent with a very lemony note, use it in conjunction with nu - it is THE perfect base for a single note citrus that you may find too "citrusy".

  • LENA10/05/2003

    What a dissapointment. A men's cologne - but a bad one!

  • PEB09/26/2003

too heavy and cloying not an every day scent

  • LINDA09/23/2003

I love using NU every day. I do get lots of compliments from my customers. Made from wood which makes it more unique.

  • BMARIE09/16/2003

A quiet understated oriental. Not too brash & bold.

  • KATYA06/21/2003

PROVOCATIVE SCENT THAT SMELLS STRONGER AT FIRST BUT DRIES DOWN SUBTLE. SMELLS AMAZING ON ME, NOT SO GOOD ON MY FRIEND. IT IS TRUE THAT IT DEPENDS ON SKIN CHEMESTRY. MY FAVORITE.

  • ARWEN04/26/2003

I am absolutely mesmerized by this scent. It is intense but not overpowering, mysterious, sensual, a bit masculine, perhaps, but I like it as it is.

  • ELADY04/18/2003

Wear very few fragrances due to allergies and low tolerance for over powering smells. This is one of the few. Can't stand sweet smells, but the aroma of Nu is soft, subtle and sexy.

  • GLORIA02/13/2003

I used to wear Opium a lot and have worn some other fragrances. I tried Nu and really liked it. It seemed softer than Opium. Now, I'm shocked that I am wearing Michael Kors more than either one. I'm usually an oriental type and don't wear much florals but who knows. I needed a change. I still think it's a good fragrance but I think Opium will go down as a classic whether you like it or not. I doubt that NU will. I think the bottle if that's what you want to call it is cheap.

  • G.S.02/01/2003

Strong tamian smell, I don't like it at all.

  • ZALE01/08/2003

Bought this online without trying it at a store! I've been looking for a winter fragrance for a while. I decided to buy a tester (much cheaper than the original 3.4) After some of the reviews I was expecting to be disappointed. What a surprise!! It's just GREAT! Very sexy and mysterious and not overpowering (unless you bathe in it of course!!). Great fragrance!

  • LUCKY GIRL01/05/2003

This is the worst fragrance of YSL's house!!! What a bad try!!!

  • ANNA12/18/2002

It smells very sexy! This perfume can give you power and you will give it to other. It prefect in the evening when you have date. Girls let's feel yourself sexy and know that guys will follow you averywhere.

  • MEGAN MARSTON12/05/2002

Nu is an interesting fragrance. I do like it but only at a certain point in the day and if I am in a certain kind of mood. I think this perfume smells better in colder weather. I got a sample of it a couple of months ago when the weather was still warm in Seattle. It does not mix well with warm weather as the notes become musky, sharp, and pungent. It can cause a really bad headache and has a tendency to become extremely sour smelling and overwhelming. I think Nu is a good pick me up perfume to inspire motivation if you're in the doldrums. But, if one is going to the gym or coming from the gym, it does not mix well with body heat. Nu is not a classic perfume that women will wear for decades and decades. Rather it is a hip, new perfume of the moment.

  • KRISTINA11/26/2002

Very bad and cheap fragrance. It is obvious that Mr. YSL is retired. Unfortunately.

  • LOLA11/20/2002

Just sampled it.Although I do like it, I can detect,in the heart notes, something similar to Donna Karan's Black Cashmere, which caused a HUGE allergic reaction, for me.The Nu isn't as intense, but the bothersome ingredient,(whichever it is),is definitely present and unmistakable, so I will have to pass on this one. Pity, because I like the scent, but it seems that all these new fragrances are formulated with newly discovered ingredients that were not used in perfumery prior to a couple of years ago;up to then I never had such strong negative reactions to scents,(other than disliking some of them,or getting a headache,in the extreme),but Black Cashmere had me pass out cold on the floor, with heart palpitations and a rash, and Nu is somehow conjuring some similar impressions,so I will have to keep my distances and enjoy it on others.

  • ALEXADRA10/23/2002

On my mom's skin smells great, on mine - a little bit heavy still good. It really depends on the chemistry. Try it , may be on you it also will smell great:)))

  • ANA MARIA10/22/2002

    Very bad, masculine and overpowering.

  • JASMIN10/20/2002

I disagree that this perfume is boring. The spiciness attracts attention. I've been asked which perfume I am wearing. It's unlike anything else new out there. It's refreshing among all the new-age flora/tea scents to something heavier but zesty at the same time. Worth trying. (27/blond/fair skin)

  • KATHY10/14/2002

if you like opium, you´ll love this one.

  • EURY10/11/2002

A deep, evocative scent ... and that pepper is wonderful. I've found that I'm addicted to (a) pepper and (b) orchid in fragrances, the ones I HAVE TO have. Hmm. Nu is unforgettable, different, dry and sweet -- a wonderful combination. Lovely.

  • VIVIEN10/05/2002

I like this sexy scent a lot, but that is because I´m very fond of oriental fragrances. But I would save it for special occasions. On the other hand, it is pretty expensive.

  • RAMON10/05/2002

I MET MY FRIEND FOR DRINKS LAST NIGHT AND GAVE HER A HUG AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, "WOW, WHAT IS THAT, IT SMELLS SOOOO GOOOOD". SHE SHOWED ME THE BOTTLE AND GAVE ME A SHOT. BEFORE WE WENT FOR A DRINK, WE WENT RIGHT OVER TO SAKS 5TH AVE AND I BOUGHT IT. NONE THE LESS, I WANTED TO TRY HER ON TOO. NU IS GREAT!

  • V.V.09/16/2002

I don't like it. It is boring and without caracter. Trendy, heavy, with nothing specific to impress you.

  • MELH09/15/2002

It's trendy but aggressive and boring

  • PETITCAJUN07/15/2002

I have Nu soap, body creme, and perfume and they all smell good, but interestingly enough, they all smell a little different. On me Nu is not sweet at all, but it certainly is spicy, with a little citrus thrown in the mix. This smells very unisex to me. Tom Ford says this scent was not created to be unisex but trust me, a man could easily wear this one. In fact, Tom Ford says he wears it, so maybe the guys should give this one a shot. The soap is wonderful, it is black and again it seems very unisex to me, it smells so sexy and spicy. I have mixed feelings about the cream, when I first put it on it smells like medicine but then maybe an hour or two later it smells just fine. If you are looking for the complete opposite of perfumes like Marc Jacobs or Michael this is the one for you. Nu doesn't hit you over the head with flowers. The main notes you smell are incense, bergamot, black orchid, and black pepper. A very bewitching combination to say the least.

  • CHINA07/13/2002

I asked for and received Nu for Christmas, and I use it as a sexy night out perfume. It is peppery, incensey, and a little sweet. I think it is too strong to wear as a daytime fragrance but it is perfect as a spicy enticing scent for evening wear. I also love the 'objets de art' bottle; it's beautiful and looks like a luminous paperweight. I love this one---it's bewitching!

  • ELJA07/11/2002
