I love this perfume and have for many years, it's signature fragrance is elegant and gives the sense of an expensive luxury perfume.

  • GINETTE05/15/2014

HP has got to be the best perfume I've ever used. Just beautiful!

  • PERFUME NEWBIE08/31/2013

It's beautiful. Sweetish, but not sugary and noticable.

  • JUNE BIXBY12/25/2012

I've been wearing Christian Dior's Hypnotic Poison for at least 10 years and getting compliments from everyone from the dental hygienist to the director at my workplace. ...but nolonger could not find it in the stores. Needless to say I was very excited to when I found it online at Perfume Emporium.

  • DEE S10/24/2012

Best Fragrance EVER!! Everytime I wear it someone wants to know what perfume I have on! My last bottle of the "original" HP fragrance is almost finished. Went to the store to purchase another and WAS TOLD THEY HAVE CHANGED THE FORMULA!! WHAAAAAAT!! How can they do that to a winning formula - haven't they heard the expression "if it's not broke DON'T fix it"!! Needless to say I have not bought another bottle of HP because the fragrance is definitely NOT the same. C'mon Dior - we want the original back!!

  • DANYA FENTON07/02/2012

    brilliant product...lasts all day

  • ROBIN02/07/2012

Every person who notices my perfume loves it. I get "You smell so good!" at least once a day.

  • VICTORIA11/03/2011

This was my favorite perfume, I have not brought any for two years or more due the rockerting prices of this perfume, but now I can afford a bottle, I must say " it is not as strong as before, it used to linger all day and I did not have to re spray, but now I have to respray at least 3 times. could ploy to get used quicker and more brought. Why change an already excellent perfume.

  • PERFUMEJUNKIE06/30/2011

Beautiful scent! So mysterious and feminine. And different! I love different. Who wants to smell like everybody else? If you are a Eau de Mallrat devote, stay away from this. YOUR loss, though.

  • JUDI W*06/30/2011

They DEFINITELY changed this scent. I emailed Dior, and told them to change it back, because it was so wonderful before. I still buy it, because it was my favorite, but it lacks the tenacity, and depth (quality) that it originally had. STOP RUINING ALL THE GOOD ONES!!

  • DAVIS01/02/2011

My daughter and I both love this perfume, but we tend to turn perfumes a bit acidy - like we doused ourselves with lemon floor cleaner if the perfume is light and youthful. It really is about your chemistry - after having a baby I had to change my perfume. Try the mini if you aren't sure. Someone will be sure to like it if you don't.

  • SEXY T10/22/2010

It's the best! Hands down! And the men love it!

  • JUDI W*07/26/2010

I remember, the first time I tested HP. It was much heavier, then it is now. It smells similar, but I just bought a new bottle today, and it lacks the strength, that it once had. That REALLY annoys me, this is the same thing that happened with my other favorites, Halston, Fendi, Opium & others. I'm really tired of these companies, "reformulating", "tweaking", "updating" whatever the adjective is, I am getting really annoyed!!!!!

  • TREBOR03/12/2010

The perfumer of Hypnotic Poison is Annick Menardo, who has also done such great perfumes as Le Labo Gaiac 10 and Dior's Bois d'Argent. HP is an almond/vanilla/spice oriental that borders on gourmand. It projects well and lasts forever on my skin. Wish it was easier to get in the UK!

  • SHELLY WALKER11/29/2009

    Very intoxicating. Love it!!!!

  • MARCI06/10/2009

I can't get enough of this perfume! I am so addicted to this smell. Mt husband LOVES this perfume on me. It literally drives him crazy! I have to say that I haven't had any perfume in all my life have this much of a control on me. When I run out and have to wait to get more, I visit the store and have them give me testers. (lol)

  • SEDUCTRESS04/28/2009

Let's get one thing straight: There are some fragrances that women like and there are some that men like on women, from extensive experience I have found that the fragrances that most women don't find so amazing smelling, are quite a winner with the men, this includes Hypnotic Poison... none of the ladies around me like it or find anything special about it, however men absolutely adore this fragrance. So to all those women who are getting so agro about this fragrance not smelling good etc, all I can say is: go back to your usual girlie smelling florals etc and leave this to women who understand what sexy is all about and actually wear this for men (or a man)... not to attract all the other women out there... and thankgoodness for that because I'd hate to be wearing a fragrance that 100 million other women wear... HP is the best.

  • DEE02/22/2009

The most "AWSOME" perfume ever. I can only find it online and in Pigeon Forge TN. I have never found another one like it. It just fits my personality and I really enjoy it's fragrance. Try it you may really enjoy it. :) Thanks Dior

  • BBD02/08/2009

Hypnotic Poison by perfumer Annick Menardo is a wonderful near-gourmand. There's a lot of honeyed vanilla-pod notes with bitter almond to balance the sweetness. Although very rich like Dior Addict, it's not as sweet or cloying. There is a close relationship between this and the men's fragrance Dior Bois d'Argent - also by Menardo. As with the other Menardo greats like Lolita Lempicka, Body Kouros, and Oriental Brulent, this can be enjoyed and worn by guys as well as girls. Excellent - just wish it wasn't so expensive.

  • MICHELE02/05/2009

It's the best perfume for me. Men & women alike stop to ask me what I'm wearing because " I smelll so good" ! LOVE IT!!

  • ANIA12/28/2008

I'm a big fan of powdery perfumes, and I've been looking for a perfect fragrance forever, I have more then 20 bottles in my collection, but Dior's HP is timeless, it's soo sexy amd misterious, I absolutely love it. My other favorites are DK Cashmere mist, Gurlain samsara, cacharel Eden

  • MELODIE12/09/2008

i love this perfume!!! it smells great!!!!

  • THEQUEEN12/05/2008

I will be wearing this fragrance for as long as I am able to purchase it. It's getting hard to find it in stores. HP is my signature perfume - when people hug me they say "omg you smell wonderful".

  • TERRI11/01/2008

I love this fragrance....it is like none other I have tried. I started using it when it released and now am having a difficult time finding it. Thank God for the internet.

  • BARBARA W10/19/2008

Well, I found a big bottle of Hypnotic online at a great price, so bought it. Enjoying the smell very much, but it doesn't last at all on my skin! :( Anyone else have this problem? All the reviews I've read say it lasts forever...hmm.

  • BARBARA W09/24/2008

Yes, I love Midnight Poison, and I agree with you that it's the best version since the original (but those who love Hypnotic will surely disagree!). It reminds me a little of Euphoria, but MP is much more elegant.

  • TRADOG09/08/2008

...and so does my husband, & everyone who semlls it on me! Every time I wear it (which is sparingly, these days, b/c I can't get the Shower Gel & Body Lotion with any regularity, anymore) I alwayw, ALWAYS get complimented on it...! Anybody know anyplace I can get the other products, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!

  • SOUTHERNBELLE08/18/2008

I will agree this is definitely not a scent for everyone and WILL NOT work with everyone's body chemistry. My girlfriend loves the scent on me and absolutely HATES it on her lol..... BUT IT WORKS ON ME...This is my signature scent and has been for the last 5yrs. When I first smelled it I will admit it has a very different and unique aroma...so I had to test it before I bought it...OMG....it smelled absolutely delicious on me. I get so many complements by men and women.

  • DOC.T08/10/2008

Ladies, I think you have found your perfect perfume here. I normally don't make it a habbit to chase the ladies down about their perfume but this ine made me do just that and thats saying alot. This does slightly remind me of Bath and Bodyworks Warm Vanilla Sugar accept for this being a little sweater with a powdery note with a hint of root beer. That's what makes this such a delicious scent.

  • JUDI W*08/09/2008

Haven't had a bottle for a few months, and had to have it again. I realize, I need this in my collection. Not that it's great or HG, but it is something that is comforting for me & can wear without me feeling uncomfortable in.(nice vanilla) Some scents that I've worn, I don't feel that comfortable in, and while I'm wearing them, I wish I hadn't. Not with Hypnotic, I always feel okay. Still looking for my HG scent, but amazingly after all this time, haven't found it. Like I've said before, it used to be Fendi, when it first came out, many years ago. Now the formula has been tweaked, and it has lost it's unique appeal for me. Still haven't quite forgiven them (Fendi) for that blunder.

  • DOC. T08/08/2008

Normally, I don't make it a habit to chase women down to ask them about their perfume. When I smelled this on a lady walking through the mall, she told me that it was hypnotic poison. Ladies, the fact that I don't normally stop ladies to ask them what their perfume is says alot here. Get this, and I do not think you'll be disappointed. It is one of the rare perfumes out there that I can feel inside when I smell it.

  • KIKI05/23/2008

I like this perfume alot. It has a unique scent to it. I tend to wear this perfume more when its Summer time dont know why but it actually smells better, weird!!

  • WILDFLOWER05/18/2008

I am a little surprised at all of the negative comments on this perfume. It averages 4.5 stars on this site, yet seems to be 50/50 like/dislike. The playdough note, by the way, is Amber. A local health store used to sell solid amber blocks in small wooden boxes. I purchased one for my sister for Christmas because she loved Amber, and it was definitely a playdough scent. On me, the Amber, Vanilla come through pretty strong, with a little bit of Almond, and sometimes the overall scent, to me, smells like a delicious coffee scent. I agree it is different. It is the only perfume so far that I have given 5 stars because I think it is true to what it is. It doesn't morph into something totally different and doesn't disappear right away. I am 44 years old and have yet to commit myself to a signature perfume. I always wished that I could find "the one". I've read other posters who have felt the same disappointment. I can appreciate most perfumes on a certain level, especially depending on who is wearing them. There is a right person for every perfume. Some people just seem to go so well with their choice of perfume. Anyway, I do love Hypnotic Poison. It stands alone, is a classic, and spontaneously wafts exotically and aromatically around me throughout the day. Nothing wrong with this one. I do hope that Dior never alters any ingredients in this one. That would be a shame.

  • WILDFLOWER04/21/2008

I was hoping some of you HP users or non-users could share your experience as to why this is not a good perfume to wear in summer. I have grown to really like it and am thinking about still using it through the summer. I do agree it is on the heavier side, not associated with the light airiness scents of spring or summer, but does it turn funky or horrendous in the heat?

  • BARBARA W02/13/2008

Yes, I really like Midnight Poison too, and I agree that it is the best version of Poison after the original. I had a strange reaction to it, though. I actually had a hard time breathing when I had it on; something in it seemed to bother my lungs. That's never happened to me before, so I'm going to try it again - I might have just smelled too many perfumes that day. It might be reminding you of Euphoria by Calvin Klein - I noticed a similarity. Midnight is less sweet and heavier on the patchouli than Euphoria, but they are similar to my nose. Enjoy Midnight!

  • ANGELLOVE01/22/2008

It smells like synthetic red licorice and quite weird. Not a bad smell, just not very natural. I suppose with the right chemistry it can dry down to a warm comforting vanilla tone. I gave it a chance, but then I gave it away. I love Dioressence, Gardenia Passion by Annick Goutal. I love any thing that smells like sweet peas, but can't find that scent any where. I like Angel and Dior Addict alright, but not enough to buy yet anyway. I like Miss Dior. I would like to buy Nahema by Guerlain but I'm stalling right now, not 100% sure. I like Black Pearl by ET. I like powery, ambery jasmin scents.

  • ERIN PERFUME ADDICT01/11/2008

Although this smells absolutely heinous on me, one of my coworkers has been wearing it and it smells amazing on her in fact I can't stop sniffing her

  • ERIN PERFUME ADDICT01/06/2008

I tried Hypnotic Poison again today cause I really want to like this one but I still really don't like it. I tried Midnight Poison again too it defiantly still smells like the Poison family but is a lot spicier, has more character and I think it to be the best of the Poisons. I have the sample but am still not sure if I will but it, it reminds me of something but I am not sure of what? Anyone wearing Midnight Poison here?

  • ERIN PERFUME ADDICT01/03/2008

Normally I would be onboard with a Vanilla based perfume and in theory I should love this one but quite the opposite. I can't quite put my finger on it but the the more I smell it the more I hate it YUCK!!!

  • BASIA12/10/2007

I have used this perfume for the last 3 years. I am very picky and have a hard time finding a perfume that not only sits well with my alergies, but with my husband as well. Quite frankly, it drives him crazy! I noticed that he always enjoys smelling me up close and personal along with the added comment of telling me I smell like sex. Hahahahah If that doesn't say it all, I don't know what does. Capturing my husband and pleasing my senses is all that matters. The beauty in perfume is that there is a scent for everyone. This one just happens to be the one for me.

  • AMYA12/08/2007

I have loved this scent since the first time I have ever smelled it. I also get stopped on a regular basis by men when I wear it and they always say...I don't want to sound weird but perfume do you have on?

  • BARBARA W11/27/2007

...for your feedback! You know, it's funny, every time I visit Sephora I always try Hypnotic in the hope that one day it will just "click" and I'll just have to have a bottle (that has happened to me in the past). But, I think you're right - obviously many men find something irresistible about it, though my boyfriend didn't care for it. Eventually, I think I will buy a bottle and see what the reactions are. Opium, Jungle L'Elephant, and Black Orchid are among my favorites, too. Can't win 'em all, I guess! ;-) Take care!

  • JENNIFER 11/27/2007

From Diorella and Diorissimo to J-Adore to Hypnotic Poison and Addict? An innovative in fragrance-caraway seeds

  • AIMEE11/25/2007

Barbara, I know what you mean. I posted earlier and indicated the positive feedback I get from the gentlemen when I wear this scent; however, I am the first to say that this phenomenon defies explanation. It is a fragrance with many strange qualities. At times I smell root beer, other times I detect a strange, synthetic play dough sort of scent. And other times, I am drawn to it. While it generates compliments, it is not my personal favorite. I favor both Opium and Tom Ford's Black Orchid. There are many classics that I enjoy and I try the new ones too, but those two, especially Opium are my top choices. I also like Kenzo's Jungle. I've concluded that there must be an aphrodisiac in Hypnotic that the opposite sex detects because I think the other fragrances I've named are better made and far more elegant.

  • BARBARA W11/04/2007

Why oh why don't I "get" this fragrance? I really want to like it. It has notes that I just love, but all I get is straight root beer float on my skin! Anyone else experience that?

  • ADRIANA10/20/2007

I so wish I got what others do out of Hypnotic Poison, but on me, all I smell is root beer! Midnight Poison is interesting, lots of patchouli and florals, very dry. Neither one seduced me into buying a bottle. I recently splurged on both Euphoria and Black Orchid, and I'm loving those (especially Orchid).

  • BABYDOLL10/20/2007

My signature- what else can I say! Started wearing Hypnotic Poison when it was first released , have tried other perfumes in the meantime and never found anything to match the masterpiece that is Hypnotic Poison.I also think men love this fragrance and I agree with everyone who said it really is very intriguing. I DON'T think it belongs to any fragrance family/category-it's not exactly oriental, not really a typical gourmand, not a boring floral like thousand others out there- it's simply unique because I wouldn't even call it a "perfume" if I have to be honest, it is simply a skin scent that is part of me-absolutely!

  • BARBARA W10/09/2007

I tried it, but my reaction to it was lukewarm. Too florally for my taste, but the patchouli drydown is nice. Give it a try.

  • BARBARA W10/09/2007

Your description of Lutens scents sounds irresistible! I have wanted to try his products for ages, but fear getting addicted to them...!! I'm currently swooning for Black Orchid by Tom Ford, but after having shelled out almost 100 dollars without even blinking, I fear my perfume addiction has reached a new level! LOL *Runs to Serge's website anyway* Thank you, as always, for keeping me so well informed! I'll keep you posted.... ;-)

  • AIMEE10/08/2007

It's true. Men are like hounds when you wear this fragrance...they pick up the scent and track you down!

  • FATMA . A09/28/2007

Its for sure my favorite perfum,i'm a perfum addict and i have 38 perfums, but this one is my number 1.I love the scent of vanilla, its seductive, sexy and so elegant. My man loves it on me.In oriental scents, this is the best.I recommend any woman to try it.

  • ROBIN09/12/2007

Hello, Barbara! You'd mentioned wanting a really good vanilla scent that was complex and wowsville. I've got it: Un Bois Vanille by Serge Lutens. Omigod!! It's got black Mexican vanilla, lots of resinous qualites, a touch of musky coconut. YIKES!!! The drydown is lovely, too, because rather than the vanilla lasting and winding up smelling sweet and simple, it's the vanilla which fades, leaving all these rich, mellow, smokey notes. Not cheap, but a little goes a lonnnng way. If you're looking at Serge's stuff, check out some of his other frags. You might like Santal Blanc -- very sandalwoody, naturally, but more interesting than that, with lots of incensey notes. I know you like Trouble and Addict and Elephant, and these are in the same sultry ballpark. Good luck and hope you're doing well -- Robin

  • CARINA09/10/2007

I dont know what it is about this perfume. I have to be in the right mood to wear it in which case I love it. Otherwise, I find it overbearing. I usually get the urge to wear this perfume on a very cold and grey winter day. It is definitely a snuggle by the fire with a good book type of scent. I dont personally consider this to be a sexy fragrance. I think it is a comfort scent.

  • GREEKGIRL08/30/2007

Hello there, i just tried this one today and its gorgeous! it has a little Addict, a little Hypnotic Poison and also a little Very Irresistable, i really love it, mind you i just sprayed it really quickly on my turtle neck as i was running throught the shops so i dont know if it would of smelled any different on my skin so ill have to give it another go, going by the frags you mentioned you might like it, ill keep you posted if it smells any different on my skin, see ya.

  • HARLEY-MAMA08/13/2007

Has anybody tried this yet? What does it compare too? VERY cool bottle by the way!! I love Addict and Hypnotic Poison too.

  • BARBARA W08/09/2007

I feel the same about vanillas - I like them to have an edge. Some of them smell great for a while, then dry down to just pure vanilla, which is disappointing. I still really like Trouble and Addict, but I've yet to find a truly smoldering vanilla. Let me know if you have any luck!

  • JUDI W*07/30/2007

I'm going through alot of changes, and all of a sudden, I'm getting into vanilla. Not plain foody vanilla (sweet & smelling like cookies) but something with some other spicy or interesting notes to it. Kenzo Jungle has been my all time favorite, but I've gone through 4 bottles, still love it, but want something different, but I too, have to still have it in my collection.(get ALOT of compliments with that one) Hypnotic is again, to me, a very comfortable scent. Nothing amazing, but pleasant.

  • BARBARA W07/27/2007

Oh I agree, if you have to have it, it must be done! I feel the same way about Jungle L'elephant - I get nervous when my bottle gets low. I'm warming up to Hypnotic Poison, too. I will probably buy a bottle this fall. Have you tried the new Burberry London for men?? It's incredible - I'm going to get a bottle for myself! Hope you're having a good summer!

  • JUDI W*07/07/2007

I don't know what to say about this fragrance, other than it is unusual & comforting to me. I don't like all vanilla scents, but this one is good. I bought a dupe of this, and it smelled like straight out Playdough. If you like that kind of smell great, but I will definitely be splurging on the real thing. It ain't cheap either, but if ya need to have it in your collection, what can you do?

  • BARBARA W06/30/2007

Decided to try this again at Sephora, and I actually had three men stop me within an hour to ask what I was wearing, saying it was incredible. I'm still on the fence about it personally, but if you want to attract men, I guess this is the one to wear! ;-)

  • CHRIS COLOGNE (MALE)06/22/2007

One of the most incredible womens perfums I've ever smelled. Young girls please take note. When you think you're ready to ditch your Curve, Happy, and other childish fragrances, THIS is the one that will announce you are a real woman. Absolutely amazing scent on a female-any age.

  • GREEKGIRL06/13/2007

I was wearing this at my sons 18th birthday, as i was walking past a group of young boys, i heard one boy whisper to another mmmmmmmm something smells good, i was so embarrassed i kept walking not saying anything but everytime id walk past him hed give me a little grin, so guys definitely like this one, that night my son said to me, my friend wants to know what perfume youre wearing so he can get it for his girlfriend, gee he must really love it he was going on about it all night! its definitely a man pleaser.

  • SUNSHINE06/11/2007

i am from canada, just went across the border to bellis fair and found it at macy's

  • LABANDR05/13/2007

This is the best scent! It doesnt wear off, you may think it does but thats just because your wearing it & used to it. Its still there :)

  • CYNCYN05/01/2007

This scent from the first spritz became endeared to my heart. I consider it part of my essence: sweet and dark layers. I agree it can leave an odd play doh scent but it's worth it. I like to put this one on before bed just to enjoy its strange notes as I enter a seductive sleep.

  • BARBARA W04/12/2007

I thought I'd really like this based on the notes and reviews, but there is something funky about this that makes me not want to wear it. I agree with Judi W, though, that there is something compelling about it. I can't say I dislike it, but nor do I like it...it's just odd. I'll try it again at a later date to see if I change my mind - that's certainly been known to happen before! :-)

  • JUDI W*04/05/2007

I don't know with this scent, it isn't the best scent I've ever smelled, but something about it, makes me keep coming back to it. (not flowery or fruity, which for some reason, I don't like to smell like) I feel comfortable in it, it's not too much, maybe at first, but it dries down nicely. Weird actually...

  • ALLYSA03/06/2007

This fragarnce smells like Bananna Boat sun tanning oil. Vanilla dominates this fragrance. The scent is like the combination between vanilla and jasmine. It really seduce me.I'm only giving 4 rating for this one because pure poison is better than this one

  • NILLA02/08/2007

pretty sure this is not discontinued. bought some at dillards dept store last week. but they also had organza indecence there too, which has been discontinued. hynotic poison seems too popular and profitable for CD to quit producing it.

  • JENNY01/03/2007

Most of the department stores are not selling this anymore. Does any one know if Hypnotic Poison is discontinued?

  • DIVINA12/24/2006

This is my favourite fragnance...I can't get enough of it. It is mysterious, sexy, snezual and warm scent that drivesm man crazy...Strongly recomment it!!

  • SMELLIE KAT12/21/2006

When I first started wearing this fragrance, I noticed the "play doh" elements that have been mentioned here. I also work in a children's hospital, so I didn't mind so much. However, the dry-down is something entirely different; sweet wood, vanilla, musky . . . I like it. Actually, my husband pointed out the complexity of the scent (he's a very good fragrance student). It's quite rich and lasts forever.

  • JUDI W.12/21/2006

The first time I purchased this, I really liked how different it was, but now, it is too sweet & annoying after you have it on for more than an hour...my opinion, so don't jump on me, ladies! Like the bottle, but you can't wear the bottle. Wouldn't buy it again...over it!

  • LASSIE12/20/2006

...I really really wanted to like this. I love Dior Addict and many others, and on paper it sounded just fabulous, right up my alley. Love vanilla, but sadly there's that plasticky, playdough note you often get with vanilla. Does anyone know why that happens? The drydown is a little better than the initial blast, but not crazy about it.

  • MELA11/21/2006

I started to get real sick of this fragrance. It's too sweet and sickly for me even though I love vanilla fragrances.

  • JESSICA11/08/2006

I really love this. I have been wearing it for aver 4 yrs now. Used to get it at a store now have to buy over the internet. Tried others, can't compare. I constantly get compliments for all types of people. I love the attention.

  • EDT11/05/2006

I think it's a disgusting odor, undoubtably strong enough to cover BO. Maybe that's the appeal.

  • DONNA11/05/2006

Hmmmm, I used to wear this fragrance when I was much happier and thought I would try it again. We can never really go home again ...so, time to move on and maybe try woman by Dolce c

  • LEILA11/04/2006

It's very sweet and vanilla/licorice to me. Like Pink Sugar but with a bit more complexity. And, nice to see that men fall over Maya for this one as well as Boucheron Trouble, wow. Interesting.

  • *MAYA*10/31/2006

Thank you ladies, I could not agree with either of you more... Oh my goodness, it's been bothering me so much that this new Maya is posting under the same name as me and well it's just gotten quite confusing who's who/.? I used to post at the beginning of this year, made a few wonderful friends and never offended anyone... But now I hardly even want to come on this website because of how it makes me feel to read the trash that this person has lately been posting. By the way I love HP.

  • GRETCHEN10/28/2006

I was given a sample of this when I bought Dior Addict, which I love. It was pure vanilla- I didn't get any scent of caraway seed, etc. Actually, if you like this, save some money and go on ebay and buy Calgon's Vanilla Body Spray as that's exactly what this smells like. Felt like I was smeared in buttercream frosting. Way too vanilla- and this is coming from someone who can appreciate a good vanilla scent. Extremely cloying and unfortunately, long-lasting!

  • SEXY KITTEN10/25/2006

oooooh boy... I had high hopes for this one because I love scents that can use vanilla well but hypnotic is not one of the ones I like....a bit too strong and peppery for me...after the vanilla wears off it leaves this nose-burning masculine afterscent that won't quit...the lotion is much softer and doesn't have the burn factor but I still find the overall scent a bit of a tummy turner...I guess hypnotic is pas pour moi!

  • SMELLIE KAT10/19/2006

I traditionally enjoy your postings and respect your knowledge of perfume. But I must say, your "hypnotic on me" posting is rather nauseating because you have posted this IDENTICAL message on many different perfumes (you've just changed the title). Did you think no one would notice? Or do you somehow need us to believe that men "fall all over you" and women hate you because you're so irresistible? Wow. Truly irresistible women don't have to advertise, and truly classy women appreciate beauty in others. Please, for all our sakes, get back to rating the perfume and keep your "I'm so hot that my husband can't control me and women want to destroy me" fantasy between you and your man. Really, Maya, it's beneath you.

  • DOLLY DAGGER10/07/2006

Your a character. When YOU wear this scent, and men find out your married they fall apart? Women basically don't like you on sight or smell because of this perfume? What an ego, lol. Nothing wrong with liking yourself, but we're talking about the perfume. Hypnotic Poison is very vanillish. (if that is a word) and almondy. It's different, and because it's not flowers or citrus, I like it, not great, not horrible. Somewhere in the middle.

  • MAYA09/22/2006

Because when I wear it,the reactions I get range from the total strangers(men) who start following me around, asking if they can come closer to SMELL me better, to the bold ones who ask me out and then fall apart when I tell them I'm married, finally to the women who somehow get really hostile when they detect it on me. For those reasons my husband has asked me to wear it only when I'm with him,to diffuse many potentially unpleasant situations...Of course, I don't always keep my promises, and that,of course,is the fun part.

  • LU09/16/2006

The best Dior ever !!! Sensual, sweet and warm. I just can't get enough !

  • DIONE09/09/2006

I have to say that this one didn't work for me. Initially I bought it because of the good reviews and was really excited but then...I found it very hard on the nose. Be careful using it.. I recommend trying it on first before buying it or u might be dissapointed.

  • LUSI09/05/2006

It wasn't love at the first sight, but the style of the perfume... or maybe its misteirous made me try again and again. The bitter almond is loud in the opening note one my skin. It was weird in the begining but now I love it. The vanilla is dominant after, but in a classy way.

  • JOANNA08/02/2006

Hypnotic Poison is a great winter perfume. It certainly wouldn't go unnoticed. It smells of playdough but in a good way!

  • FRAGRANTONE07/23/2006

My husband loved this one from the first sniff...it is unique, in my opinion, nothing else out there quite like HP. It is somehow sweet and dry at the same time. I just wish it came in EDP, I don't think the EDT has enough lasting power for a Dior. I also bought the body lotion, which smells very chemical and nothing like the perfume.

  • JULIA07/05/2006

This fragrance is simply overwhelming and literally "breathtaking". Whereas the original "Poison" is strong but yet provocative (and wonderful on the right person and occasion), this one will knock off the feet everyone around you. Big no-no.

  • MAG07/02/2006

The first scent I fell in love with was Obsession and I was just a child then....When I came across HP I remembered the old days once more. You may hate but as easily love this smell- it is strong, vanilla and bitter, some people say"chemical". It certainly is not a smell for everyday use, but it is perfect for winter -esp. accessorised with black sexi dress and bordeaux nails.

  • ANGIE06/23/2006

My sister purchased this a couple years ago and I could never bear to smell it. It is so strong. I tried to like it, but I just don't. It gives me a headahce and I get nauseated if I am around it.

  • MELANIE06/14/2006

This is such an original scent, like no perfume I've smelled before! I've been using it for 3 years now and couldn't live without it! Lots of perfumes give me headaches but this one doesn't, it's just so relaxing and sweet, would never give it up!!! I found that I get use to the scent on myself and thought it was wearing off, but then someone complimented on it and I realized it was still goin' strong.

  • ANJELL06/01/2006

I absolutely positively looooove this fragrance. Its like nothing else I've ever smelled before. Very seductive. And surprisingly it lasts all day and night(on me), I couldn't believe I was using an EDT spray cause it lasts so long. This is definitely my favorite fragrance hands down. Dangerous stuff ladies, handle with caution and have lots of fun with it!

  • JB04/23/2006

I love this scent, but it doesnt last very long on my skin. Does anyone else have trouble? I wish Dior would make this in an EDP or a parfum strength. The original Poison EDT lasts almost forever on me, but sadly this one doesnt. I really do LOVE the scent, which on its own I would give the highest 5 star rating, but on longevity I only give it 2 stars.

  • NATHALIE04/16/2006

i have to agree this is a nice perfume, but the dry down does smell like playdough. pretty funny!!!!

  • SUZAN S04/06/2006

I still hope Christian Dior makes a bath powder version of Hypnotic Poison...... Love Phil's comments.....if only it were that easy...

  • JUDI W*04/05/2006

I posted on here about one year ago, and wasn't sure if I liked it or not. I've come to the conclusion, that it's a comfortable scent for me to wear, but nothing exciting. Being that it is so expensive, I will finish the bottle, but no more purchases. I have NEVER gotten a compliment when wearing this. My other two favorites, get compliments all of the time. (sorry, not sharing that info) I like that HP is not fruity or flowery, which for me, gives it points!

  • EJHOSHH03/29/2006

I have been using this perfume for 1.5 year and my another name is 'hypnotic girL' =) I can't use another perfume instead of it.. when i do i feeL Like a part of me is missing=) I admit that it sometimes smeLLs Like synthetic but i can't give it up=D

  • GREEKGIRL03/20/2006

I have had a mini of this for a long time but only tried it once not really liking it, well after reading all these posts thought ill give it another try and to my surprise loved it! now it is in my top five favourites, so if you dont like it give it another go you might be surprised like i was , absolutely hypnotic!

  • VIOLET03/17/2006

smells like a cross between root beer barrels and play dough on me....not so good

  • ARICIA02/20/2006

A real feel-good fragrance. Smells like root beer, Play-dough, licorice, almond, vanilla... all happy scents to me! I love it. When asked, I told my co-worker what I wore (duh) and now I smell it on her every day.

  • PAZZO02/13/2006

This was my 1st perfume purchase and l was totally taken by it.Later i got many others - samsara, dune, Light blue, dior addict, poison, youth dew, estee, lolita, beautiful, sicily, Issey miyake, emporio armani, versace woman and many others as well and it is my habit to regularly wear a diff. perfume every day, but somehow for a few months i neglected this gem. But today after a long time i tried hypnotic poison and was hypnotised by it all over. When i was using it regularly i cldn't smell it on me after a few hrs, so i thought it had no staying power at all but today the smell seems to linger on and i keep finding myself sniffing my wrists over and over.I am nuts about any kind of nutty notes -almonds ,hazelnut, etc and love the yummy almond notes in it.

  • LA LA PRINCESS02/07/2006

DOES ANY ONE KNOW IF THIS SMELLS SPICY TO THEM? IT SMELLS VERY VANILLAISH ON MY SKIN. DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHAT WHOULD COMPARE TO MY ALL TIME FAV. KL FOR WOMEN NOW THATS A F R A G R A N C E !!

  • KAREN02/05/2006

This is my new favourite. I really love the almond top note and the vanilla and musk base notes (try Smitten Handcream from 'Lush'). I was a bit worried as I read on one of the earlier posts that it was going to be discontinued but the Dior rep at my local store says it isn't - and they have just released some handbag size bottles of all the Poison range so fingers crossed that it will be around for a while. I am in England so any up to date info from anywhere else would be much appreciated. (Maya, I am trying to like Youth Dew Amber Nude but haven't got there yet - no doubt I will eventually buy it though.

  • KAREN01/29/2006

I love this perfume! I'm frequently asked what I'm wearing and told that I smell so good. Sophisticated and very sexy, indeed! My friend wore it, but it did not smell good on her. So, you should try it out at the perfume counter and see how many compliments you recieve. If you don't receive any, or they ask what you're wearing and don't follow it up with a comment about how good you smell, it probably doesnt work for you.

  • VIVIAN P01/19/2006

Like many others here I own way too many perfumes. None other like Hypnotic though. Maybe my all time "anytime: fragrance. I agree that there's a hint of play-dough and root beer on first spritz but somehow in a good way. This disappears quickly though leaving this amazingly lovely vanilla scent. I get tons of compliments on this from both men and women. Wonderful.

  • HEATHER01/10/2006

This stuff is WAY too strong. I've smelled it on a few people and straight from the bottle and it makes my head pound in pain every time. Horrible stuff.

  • PHIL12/28/2005

I love this perfume so much, I had to post another message. This makes me drool whenever I smell it. I become putty weather or not the lady wearing it is 100lbs,500lbs,3 ft. tall, or 8 ft. tall. Make your man buy you this masterpiece.

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE12/21/2005

Wow! Just when I SWORE I wouldn't buy another fragrance, I stumbled onto this one. Couldn't pass it up! Unbelievably fabulous scent for those of you that like warm sexy complex scents. This one really delivers, and is truly mesmerizing. Can't stop smelling my arm all day! Love it!

  • MARY-BETH12/21/2005

A friend of mine wears this and aaaaaaaaaaalways gets complimented on it, usually by men. I thought it was okay, but she kind-of bathes in it. I didn't see her for several months, and when I did, I smelled that familiar smell on her and realized that I MISSED it, even though I didn't absolutely love it before. I got a sample of it, and it turns out that it smells great on me, too. :) It's a heavy, going-out fragrance. You might make people pass out if you wear it to the office, though. It's one of those fragrances that is completely different than anything out there.

  • MAYA12/18/2005

Hi Sumrie, I've just sampled the EDT yesterday and love it... smells the same to me... in fact I was wearing my own juice when I went to the store and sprayed the EDT on the hand that I saved so I can do the testing... LOVE IT, JUST AS MUCH!!! And, dear Erica S. I too smell the licorice in HP and really love it – my sister smells licorice on me but also the vanilla; perhaps to your nose licorice is the predominant note, but be assured that others smell all the other wonderful notes on you too... Complements are endless with this one as I'm sure you've already seen... Best of luck to you both... Maya

  • ERICA S12/15/2005

i finally bought this perfume, but i don't know if it smells good on me...i feel like it smells like licorice throughout the whole day, and never gets to the "dry down" smell. at work, someone said "ooh somebody smells good!!" but i didn't know if it was actually me she was smelling! i wish i could smell it on someone who *knows* it smells good on them to see how i compare...does anyone else smell the licorice in this perfume? i still love it but...

  • SUMIRE12/15/2005

Hey Thanks for your reply! The only problem is I didn't smell the EDP it was actually the EDT. I think they stopped making it. I read from the other reviews in this section that's it's been discontinued!! NOOO. BUT the EDT smells really nice. Never smelled the EDP though, is it different??

  • MAYA12/12/2005

Hello! As far as the lasting power of HP is concerned you've got nothing to worry about. It really lasts and lasts! I find that the EDP is a very good quality product and will really stay with you, especially the warm vanilla base... Best of luck!

  • SUMIRE12/09/2005

I love the smell. When I took a whif of this it reminded me of sweet and warm vanilla but one question does it have lasting power? To me that's one of the most important qualities in a scent.

  • COCOA12/09/2005

A fragrance for the spellbinding seductress whose fascinating glance electrifies and bewitches. A mesmerizing scent, Hypnotic Poison is provocatively magnetic, the fusion of four intense and vibrant notes. An intoxicatingly sensual alchemy that leads to obsession.

  • LAURA 12/08/2005

I had a boyfriend once, that would ASK me to wear this on every date once he smelled it the first time. Men love it for some reason! I bought it because I love anything 'poison' but it became a staple once I realized how powerful it is! Just try it!

  • SKYGIRL12/07/2005

I read about this scent in some magazine while I was on the elliptical machine at the gym..some actress remarked that men always ask her what she is wearing, when she wears this perfume. Curious, I read the reviews on this site and shortly thereafter, purchased Hypnotic Poison. At first, I wasn't sure what to think of the scent (the scent being a sweeter mix of vanilla and musk) but after wearing it out a few days in a row, I simply fell in love with it. To top it off, my boyfriend constantly tells me how good I smell...even when I wake up in the morning and there is a faint hint of HP still on my neck. The key to this scent is less is more...I do the "spray, delay and walk away" technique twice and that is plenty. I wouldn't recommend spraying directly on the wrists or neck, since the perfume stream is substantial and you risk over-doing it. Overall this is now one of my favorites!! I also wear Laura by Laura Biagiotti

  • ROBIN 11/28/2005

. . .but want to try something similar with a bit of a twist that is a little less well-known, do try By Woman by Dolce and Gabbana. By has the same notes in the mid-base drydown -- vanilla, sandalwood, cedarwood and musk -- but it's got these very different topnotes --bergamot, Sicilian tangerine, lily of the valley, mauve cyclamen -- that might do something for you. Not to everone's taste (they're very potent) but if you already adore Hypnotiq, it could be just the thing to shake things up a little for you!! I've posted a similar message on the By Woman board just to give women on both sides of the equation a reference point. Have fun!!

  • SUZAN S.11/26/2005

One time when I wore it, hubby said I smelled like a cookie. The next time he said I smelled like coconut. I can't wear it unless the weather is cold. I just know the "undernote" reminds me of some old musty books.....but I like that.

  • DANCINGBEAR11/21/2005

"Could this one be that bad??" No, definitely not! I recommend you at least SMELL the perfume first before thinking it will be a toxic sickly sweet scent. I'm with you on that aspect- nothing I hate more than someone smelling like cheap cotton candy. But HP dries down to something VERY soft and subtle. It's sweet-smelling, but not over-powering. It's yummy. It might be a little off putting if you sniff it out of the bottle, but dab a bit on your skin and then see what you think!

  • DANCINGBEAR11/21/2005

  • KAY11/17/2005

I just don't understand why some one would think that smelling of vanilla is a good thing. It certainly doesn't smell sexy. Why not just dab on some real vanilla extract and save a lot of money? At least it would be a true vanilla scent and not these phony and toxic vanilla scents. I thought about ordering this one until I read the comments about it smelling of vanilla. I can only pray for the co workers and neighbors that the ones using this perfufme use it sparingly. If it is as vanilla sicky sweet as Casmir, I feel for any one who crosses paths with a person wearing this.Could this one be that bad???

  • JESSI11/16/2005

Yeah this is definently not a scent you find in other fragrances. It's really different... but not in a good way. I really tried to like this one but somehow the vanilla-note made me sick. I smelled it a couple of times for a few seconds and it was ok but after a while the stuff started getting that bitter, strong smell and it made me dizzy. Too much emphasis on the vanilla and bitter almond notes.

  • JULIE 11/09/2005

It's true, this perfume, when I wear it, nothing exciting about it, but when I run out, I miss it! It's a very comfortable scent to me. I don't like flower or fruity scents, and this one definitely isn't. There's just something about it that has hooked me. It's strange...

  • LAURINHA11/07/2005

Many people were saying Trouble/Boucheron was similar to HP, but better. Well, I tried Trouble and I still prefer HP, I'll keep buying this one, my fave for winter :)

  • DIANE10/19/2005

I have never received so many compliments as I do when I wear this fragrance. It is mesmerizing. It is my signature scent. People tell me they love hugging me because I smell so good - that's the result when you wear Hynotic Poison!!!!

  • ALLISON R.10/12/2005

I have a friend who wears this , and boy does it work for her. It smells of rich Amber and hard to find spices. I just love it! It is one that leaves a scent trail that is so magical, I wish more people would use it.

  • ROBIN 09/18/2005

LL -- Miss Dior Cherie, the newest from Christian Dior, is nothing like Hypnotic Poison. It is extraordinarily fresh and soft and pretty, full of light blossoms and fruit. I'm crazy about it, although it's not exactly cheap!! I think it's easily the most youthful and modern fragrance Dior has come up with; it hasn't got any of that classic, older-lady smell to it that, IMHO, Miss Dior has, so don't judge it by its more "mature" namesake. Have fun, and hope you find it soon!!!

  • LAURINHA09/13/2005

Sweet and warm, this is the best fragrance for winter. It's strong/long lasting, but in a good way, without being nasty or making people around sick, like Angel does...

  • PERFUME_DIVA08/11/2005

Hypnotic Poison begins with almond and caraway, which mellow into a hedonistic blend of sambac jasmine, champack, and jacaranda wood. These are built over a base of tree moss, vanilla and musk to create a spicy oriental fragrance for a true Temptress of the New Age

  • LL08/11/2005

Dior has new fragance "Miss Dior Cherie" (chypre-fruity) if somebody tried it let me know about it.

  • JT08/09/2005

If you read my first post about this perfume, you'll see I did not like it. I thought it smelled "weird". Then every time I smelled it over several months, it got better and better to where I love it. That never happened before with any other perfume. Usually I either like it or not. Someone in a much earlier post said something like how it smelled like dusty old library books...I have to say I know exactly what they mean! Part of it is vanilla, yet part of it is like a hard to describe woody "antique" mysterious sort of smell which I really like... blends well with the vanilla parts. What people are saying about that playdough smell is what you first smell, especially in the lotion, but that goes away when it dries down and becomes wonderful! Also, I keep reading about people who are unhappy with a purchase of perfume and reluctantly use it up, or give it away. That's rediculous... if you don't like it, simply RETURN IT to the store you purchased it from. Most retailers will let you return it and give you your money back or at least exchange it provided it isn't half used. I have no idea why so many people do not use that option.

  • BEBE08/01/2005

Loved at first, but then it started to remind me of the scent of play dough. Try Escada's Magnetism instead, it's much better and sexy.

  • MAYA07/26/2005

I know this may be weird but Hypnotic reminds me of the beach. From the very first time I smelled it I could almost feel that warm wind off the ocean blowing to the sandy shore. I guess this could be because of it's warming quality. This is not a light fragrance, but possessed by a warming aura that shows of its charms in sexiest ways. It's like it teaches the wearer the secrets of passions and joys of play. Like the name says it hypnotizes with its sex-appeal too...

  • DOLLY07/18/2005

I love this perfume!, I wear many perfumes, depending How I feel, & this one at firts was to heavy , but a little bit is enought,My Boyfriend compliment me for this perfume like 3 or 4 times a day he really enjoy smelling my ears & hair, he always is asking me which one it is... but I will never let hem know! is my little misterious secret!!! I LOVE !!! THIS FRAGANCE!!! I'll buy another big bottle before it get descontinued. :(

  • JANCYE07/14/2005

I love different, spicy smelling fragrances and I wanted to much to like this. I was hoping Dior put this out to make up for releasing the horrible original Poison to the world. I liked it for the first 5 seconds and then the main note started smelling like Playdough to me! If you wear it, think of your childhood memories and I swear you'll notice the Playdough smell too!

  • KATIE06/08/2005

Several department stores I've been in told me that Dior is discontinuing Hypnotic. Ahh! I've been wearing this perfume for a few years and I absolutely love it. The good news is that I've only used two bottles, so if you can stock up before they stop making it, you should still have it for awhile!

  • KRISTEN06/08/2005

I just tried this in the store last night. The spray was hard to control and I got too much on so it was overwhelming at the time. But even so I find that I can't quite forget the scent and want to smell it again. It's incredibly sexy and feminine. I think it may replace Spellbound as my signature scent.

  • CHRYSTELICA05/31/2005

This perfume totally adds a deeper aura that you can carry with you all day. It creates another more sensuous world to play in. Great for work!

  • COLLEEN05/26/2005

This perfume is a personal favorite. Whenever I wear it, people always tell me how wonderful I smell and they want to know what perfume it is! I really love it. If you like light floral perfumes and aren't a real perfume lover... this might not be for you, but if you like to enduldge your nose often to wonderful scents, this is perfect!

  • ROBBY05/18/2005

Today I met this really nice girl at our local car service. I had never really noticed her before like I did today... Even asked what perfume she was wearing... I have spoken with her before, but this time was different... By the way, she works in Beaumont Texas

  • SAPPHY04/29/2005

Hypnotic Poison is delicious! I've been wearing it for months now and it's become my "sig fragrance". Very seductive, sexy, alluring and appetizing!

  • SASSY04/29/2005

Love it! Takes me back to an island that I haven't been able to go back to for quite awhile ~ the memories are mmm, mmm, mmm!! Drives my man WILD!!!

  • S04/28/2005

The key to wearing Hypnotic Poison is to apply it with a very light hand. Do not 'soak' your wrist when you spritz. Instead, hold it away from a distance, and let it mist on you. I think that if you apply this close to your skin, it will overwhelm you and you may not get the best effect. I used to hate this scent because I had sniffed it from the bottle or sprayed a paper card. Awful! I don't know what compelled me to try it on my skin, but I'm so glad I did. It smells so captivating, alluring, and gorgeous on the skin. It begins a tiny bit on the rootbeer-ish side, but once it fully sinks in (about 20 minutes), it just gets better from there! A soft vanilla type scent, but not sugary or sweet at all. It isn't a 'foody' vanilla by any means. Give this one a try and see if it works for you! It's expensive though. A small 1.7 oz. bottle retails at $56.00 (USD).

  • TINA04/23/2005

The perfume makes you feel sensual and sexy. It tantilizes the senses very subltly. Unforgettable....He will remember this one!

  • JUDI W.03/31/2005

I'm NOT going to trash this perfume. I really wanted to go wild for it but I'm not, that doesn't mean it's not good. I've worn it for a month now and it is subtle on me, not a turn on or a turn off, so I wear it just to use it up since it's not cheap!! But it is pleasant enough to use without issue.

  • MMARIECRYS03/10/2005

This smelled really good on the card in the store, I was literally hypnotized by it. But when I ordered and applied it, it didn't strike me the same. It's a very heavy, creamy scent; I smell cherry blossoms upon first application, although that doesn't seem to be one of the notes. It's really heavy and luxurious, just like the original Poison, so you do not need to apply alot. I haven't received any compliments on it though, and that makes me skeptical, because I KNOW they can smell it. This might eventually end up in the back of my cosmetics shelf, or giving it away.

  • SARAH B.03/07/2005

At least on me. I made the mistake of spraying too much when I first purchased this and, whoa, did I reek. But just a little is very nice, very sweet--reminds me of jelly beans.

  • NEL02/27/2005

YES I AGREE WITH YOU. I'AM ALSO VERY PICKY ABOUT MY PERFUMES. I ALSO LOVE HYPNOTIC POISON AND THE REGULAR POISON BY CHRISTIAN DIOR, I HAVE NOT TRIED THE PURE POISON YET. CAN NOT WAIT TO TRY IT.

  • SABS02/27/2005

I was randomly given this one day by a classmate since she was sick of it. I took it home and tried it. Indeed hypnotic, very heady, swirls around your head, very musky vanilla. It did nothing for me and I passed it on. I agree with "Picky Perfume Girl" This is not for me but it is not a bad scent. I just happen to dislike vanilla. But then I tried Henri Bendel's Vanilla Flower and it's really pretty! Go figure.

  • ME02/24/2005

on me it's smells just like vanilla and i mean just vanilla!sad i wanted to like this one... and by the way i've heard that bitter almont is not indicated in aromatherapy so....it might be bad

  • BEBE02/22/2005

ive been hypnotized. great like black cashmere. hypnotize your main man. sends me places ive never been. very nice

  • PICKY PERFUME GIRL02/13/2005

I am SO glad this smells good on me, I love it. I just wonder if those that hate it have ever smelled it on someone that it smelled good on? I just think sometimes it is a little unfair that people give perfume a bad rating because it stinks on them, when in fact it could smell wonderful on others - but they don't say that. Those kind of ratings give the scent an unfair rating I think. I guess they should have a separate rating that says is "Excellent on Others But Stinks on Me." Oh well. Just my opinion. Anyone else agree?

  • LOISPOL02/13/2005

I love Hypnotic Poison. I feel young, youthful and seductive wearing this perfume. It has a great lasting power on me. I mostly wear it going out in the evening, hopefully dancing.

  • JT02/03/2005

5 stars now!! I really REALLY love it now... makes me wonder how I could have hated it before. It's now one of my favorites - very versatile because contrary to some posts, it is not too heavy, in fact it really dries down pretty light. After all it's an EDT. Mysterious and unusual smelling... very unique vanilla. It's earthy yet fresh at the same time!

  • JUDI W.***01/29/2005

Most of the posts were positive. When I smelled it in the bottle, it was interesting, and at first when I put it on, it is interesting. It isn't that strong on me, even though I put on alot. The strange thing is with me, is that I don't smell things on me as others do, (probably not that strange)Some perfumes I think smell great on me and some I don't but that doesn't mean other people don't like it on me. I don't know with this one, it's nice but not potent enough for me I guess. Jungle Elephant and Fendi knock me out. Love them....

  • MARY K.01/28/2005

WOW.....love this stuff! If you ladies love Hypnotic Poison, and if you can find this perfume, I recently tried Guipure & Silk by Jeanne Arthes and it smells soooo much like Hypnotic Poison...which is a good thing ;)

  • BELLA01/10/2005

I have a hard time with perfumes that don't smell like I want.I love HP,the first time I wore it,my husband liked it,now that other guys have commented they do,he decided he doesn't like it-hmmm.

  • JT01/08/2005

I don't know what happened between my last post and now, but I changed my mind about Hypnotic Poison. I guess I smelled it so many times at the store that I got used to it and started to like it. I know that's something that doesn't happen often, but I'm glad it did in this case! It does still smell sort of peculiar to me, but in quite a surprisingly good way now! It is still not among my absolute favorites, but good enough that I finally had to buy a small bottle! It starts to smell even better after it dries down a while.

  • SUZAN S.12/28/2004

In regard to the possible weirdness of Hypnotic poison...what I notice each time I smell it is an "undercurrent" smell that reminds me of old musty books....but I love that !....wish they would make a body powder. Love the shower gel, too.

  • DANIELLE12/20/2004

If I could rate this one higher I would!!! I've been wearing it since it came out and I have never had a fragrance that suits me more... it never clashes with me, it never "gets to me" in the sense of nauseating me, in fact, I can't get enough of this fragrance and I get sooooooooo many compliments when I'm wearing it too!!! It suits my personality and body chemistry....It's me in a bottle! *Giggles*

  • JT12/07/2004

But NOT in a good way. It is not the worst, but nonetheless, I think it is pretty strange smelling. The mix of bitter almond, cedar and moss or whatever else with the vanilla is not appealing to me. I've actually tried it on several times trying to like it after reading good reviews, but I just can't. It DOES go with my chemistry though... someone standing next to me said it smelled good on me, and I can tell it is not an issue with chemistry. I guess it is just the particular blend of smells that I personally find peculiar. I tried.

  • SHARRIE12/04/2004

hypnotize me pleaze with hypnotopic poison, awesome, canbe very influental to your senses

  • CARMAN HENDERSON12/02/2004

I love this fragrance! I think it smells so sexy, and I always feel great when I wear it!

  • CHERYL11/29/2004

I have never received so many compliments on a perfume as I have since wearing Hypnotic Poison. It will be my #1 perfume, thanks Christian Dior for outdoing yourself on Hypnotic!

  • SKYLA11/23/2004

i just bought it today. smells so seductive, and rich, yet it's not overwhelming. one sexy sexy scent!

  • JOSIE11/18/2004

This IS the sexiest fragrance I have ever worn. My husband can't resist it - and he usualy doesn't even like fragrances. Aside from the sexiness, it's beautiful, and unique. It's a heavy sweet vanilla fragrance on me, with notes of bitter almond and cedar. The descriptions claim that jasmine is hidden somewhere in this mysterious blend as well. This is a scent for a heroine in a gothic novel! Never fails to get compliments every where I wear it.

  • JOHANNE11/11/2004

Hi Susan, I bought the lotion and I'm glad I did. It smells great on me. I also bought the eau de toilette and maybe it's the cooler weather, but it smells great on me too! Go figure. I spray a little in my hair and a little on my chest and it lasts all day. Thanks again!

  • ORBIT10/31/2004

If you enjoy smelling like something sugary, Hypnotic Poison is for you! I admit I'm not usually wild for these types of strongly sweet smells...but I wanted to give this one a try because I adore a subtle vanilla and that's what I'd heard HP was. Well, at first whiff (from the bottle) this perfume was unbelievable strong, deeply warm, way too spicy and musky. It's totally enveloping. I felt a bit nauseated, developed a headache within seconds. Decided to see if it would be any different on skin so I sprayed it very lightly on my arm and walked around for awhile. Gave my arm a sniff, and yum! Smelled delicious and I started to get hungry. Drydown is more gentle and subdued -- I could smell almond, cream, cola, spices, sugar, and cocoa there. Still...Hypnotic Poison is quite aggressive. Better suited for the colder months as it is very deep and warm. Definitely addicting, I just can't stop sniffing that beautiful drydown. I recommend a sample or mini of it, though, and don't spray too much, because it is strong, strong, strong!

  • BUFFIE JO10/25/2004

I just bought a bottle yestday. I just loved the smell of it. I needed a new bottle of perfume and wanted something different than what I had been wearing for the past 10 years. It smells like Thanksgiving and Christmas to me. Warm, and sweet. I took my dear husband and our two boys (6 and 4) and had them smell it and another one I was debating on. They chose the Hypnotic poison. It last a long time. When I woke up I could still smell it on me. I have definately found my signature scent. It was just what I was looking for.

  • BELLE10/20/2004

I had posted a message on here last month that I didn't care for Hypnotic Poison. I had tried it in a store and it turned to a medicine smell at the end of ten minutes. I decided to try again, and I'm glad I did because now I love it. It must have been the bad combination of the body lotion I had on that night mixed with the perfume on top that didn't go well together. It was a citrus lotion. I wear a vanilla lotion with Hypnotic and now I love it. it is definetly not harsh smelling on me at all now. No medicine smell or those moss and cedar notes coming through cloyingly like with the citrus lotion before. Just sweet vanilla... but pleasant, not sickening sweet. I love it now and get lots of compliments (which is one way I know when a fragrance is good on me). I've definitely reconsidered my previous opinion. This is delicious!!

  • DEB10/10/2004

Does anyone think Hypnotic smeels like the perfume of my teen's called Heaven Scents? That what it reminds me of. I think I'm going to Love it but I do not want to overpower people with it on me.

  • ERICA S10/05/2004

so, i can't decide between addict or hypnotic poison and i've been going to the store and spraying them on either wrist for like 3 weeks now. the other night, though, it was much cooler out than it has been so i tried both the perfumes again and after i smelled HP it had the weirdest smell to it! i don't know how to describe it, it smelled like stale yucky syrup or something else gross. i've never smelled that in it at all and i'm wondering if the cooler weather had something to do with it...even though everyone says it's a better fall/winter scent. i'm disappointed. :( has anyone else had this experience with HP??

  • DOREEN BONILLA09/25/2004

I LOVE THIS PERFUME! Also every sngle time I wear this perfume MEN AND WOMEN always ask what kind of perfume am I wearing and I tell them what is is and they always compliment me on it. They say it smells great! This is my signature fragrance that I will always wear!

  • BELLE09/23/2004

Sampled in store. First initial reaction was sweet like candy. I like vanilla fragrances. This one has vanilla. As for the dry down, on me... it turned to an offensive "Vicks Vapor Rub" smell. Not good with my chemistry at all. you definitely need to test this one first. It could turn on you too! P.S. I could really smell those moss notes in there too at the end! Harsh, but as with any fragrance it just depends on your chemistry.

  • JAY DAWG09/19/2004

I bought this thinking it smelled pretty sweet and vanillay-big mistake, this crap gave me a huge headache, way too heady-I chucked it out in disgust

  • XANDI09/13/2004

i just received my hypnotic poison today, and unfortunately will be returning it asap. it's strange though- i am used to wearing sexy, musky type perfumes (ie rapture) and i guess i just thought it would be more like that (based on the descriptions). not the worst i have smelled, but definately ranks quite low in my book. this is absolutely one of those 'love it or hate it' perfumes.

  • KATHERINE09/11/2004

It always amazes me that when people don't like a scent, they simply trash it. Wouldn't it be better to say, "This doesn't smell good on me. I don't like it, but you might." I am allergic to many scents, and I can wear this one beautifully. It has delightful sweetness with no sharp edges. If over applied, it can be too strong, but worn lightly, it is an excellent scent. Spray some on little cards and tuck in your lingerie drawer, too. Men love it, and that's good!!

  • ERICA09/10/2004

does anyone else think hypnotic poison smells like licorice??? i tried this one again today too and i can't tell if it's just me or what...

  • ERICA09/10/2004

ok, i smelled this today and am totally disappointed because i feel like it smells exactly like black by kenneth cole. that stuff makes me nauseous. and there's something weird in the dry-down too...i sprayed it about 2 hours ago and i'm just smelling the weird note now. almost plastic-y.

  • DOTTI09/08/2004

Personally, this is my signature scent. I actually saved money to buy it, and I'm glad I did. It is a magnet at clubs and restaurants. All you need is a quick spray and it will last all night. Not for girls at all.

  • MIZZE09/08/2004

Ladies you want men to instantly be drawn to you...wear this perfume! I work in a very prominent male environment and all the men love this perfume...I get so many compliments! I love Dior! and if you like this one you will love Dior Addict!

  • ERICA09/08/2004

yum, i LOVE this perfume too, i smelled it awhile ago and i loved it but thought it might be too...overpowering or something. after reading all these comments about how awesome it is though i think i'm gonna buy it!

  • ERICA09/08/2004

there is a new poison, "pure poison." it is in a white iridescent bottle. i wanna smell it so bad!! i'll probably get out this weekend.

  • SHARON STONED09/07/2004

Hi John, you have such a good taste. Thank you for your nice comment. Hypnotic Poison - a wonderful, dangerous name for the very best fragrance of the world! Not similar to any other scent. Sooo unique, sexy + special!!!! Enjoy the hugs from Hypnotic-ladies :) Have a nice day!

  • AMANDA09/05/2004

Amy L is right. I saw an opalescent bottle version lately. However, the scent is nothing special, more like insect repellent. Stick to Hypnotic Poison if you love sweet candy-like fragrance!!!

  • JOHN09/01/2004

A co-worker wears this (night club) and every night when i get a hug...i don't want to let go. I just want to sit and inhale the aroma. I have never come across anything like this. Working in a nightclub i hug prolly 30-40 women a night, and nothing has ever been close. Not only will the guys love the smell, they will do what ever you want them to.

  • STEPHANIE08/26/2004

My husband gave this to me. He's not picky about what scent I wear, he can't discern one from the other and seems to like them all, but this one always grabs his attention and he knows just what it is. Drives him nuts! It's not my favorite, but it's nice to wear - not too strong but sexy and feminine. Perfect for evening.

  • STU08/17/2004

I read all the rave reviews and thought my mom might like cause she used to wear Poison. This is some kind of nasty smelling, makes you grip your stomach in agony. Wow it is really gross to smell this. I am not gonna bother giving my mother this *+@#!!!

  • SUSAN08/16/2004

Hi Johanne, After I started wearing the Shower Gel & Lotion, I tried the perfume. The perfume did not set will with me and was a bit overwhelming layered. Please give the gel/lotion a try. The scent holds well and is high quality products too.

  • AMY L08/08/2004

has any one tried the new posion perfume called pure posion? it comes in the same bottle as hypnotic but is a white pearlize color . it remindes me of a cross between addict and hypnotic very nice any one eles tried it?

  • MARTIE08/08/2004

I really like this scent. It's one of the most unique and addictive fragrances I've smelled. It smells like jelly beans!! I have tried it on about 5 different times (even with the lotion), I want to buy it SO badly, but it just turns too powdery on me. I want it to keep that nice jelly bean smell!!! Maybe one of these days I will just buy it anyway. At least I'll have it around to sniff it!!

  • DONNA LEE`07/22/2004

I have been wearing it since 1998, and still have strangers asking....What is that your wearing, it's delicious.

  • SC06/14/2004

u know if perfumes smells sour on ya, try using green notes or aromatic scents. perfumes actually accentuates someone's natural odor.

  • JOHANNE06/03/2004

I find the fragrance spray turns a bit sour on me but I love the vanilla & woody notes in this. I'm wondering how you find the staying power with the lotion. And does the lotion smell exactly like the parfum? I'm hoping that "sourness" isn't in the lotion. Chanel is one fragrance I don't especially love, but the bath oil and lotion are very nice. Not like the edt/edp at all. Very clean smelling. Chanel turns sour on me as well. Just wondering how the lotion and edt/edp compare.

  • SUZANNE05/20/2004

I never get tired of Hypnotic Poison. I got my first bottle several years ago. Like a lot of us who post on this site, I collect perfumes and wear many different ones, depending on my mood. Everytime I give that beautiful semi-translucent red glass bottle a sniff, I have to say out loud - "Mmmm, this smells SO GOOD!" I especially love it for cool weather - really for me it reminds me of Christmas. It is warm and sweet and luscious and yummy with a naughty undertone. I wore it at my husband's and my second wedding (the big one!) in late November, with a green crushed velvet gown. It was perfect!

  • CASSANDRA05/16/2004

This is my favorite fragrance of all times. I love it.

  • MIC04/22/2004

I keep going to the perfume counter to smell this stuff. I'm debating on whether or not I should buy it. The smell lingers on your wrists for 24 hours, and I just love it. I can't keep my nose away from my wrists!

  • SYLVIE04/20/2004

This HYPNOTIC POISON is pure sex in a bottle!!!! It's not sophisticated or fresh and cool, but inviting and warm. IT'S SHAMELESS *S*E*X*Y*!!!! The red rubber/Latex bottle looks very ordinary, cheap and ugly. But don't judge a perfume by its bottle: Hypnotic Poison is a beautiful and ultra-feminine fragrance. No other perfume comes close to this UNIQUE scent. It is one of the best oriental perfumes. It's powerful and long-lasting. Use it with a light hand because Hypnotic Poison is so strong like a real perfume!!! Enjoy and take care.

  • KRISTYNROSE04/08/2004

I've had the strongest reactions from men when I wear this fragrance! Complete strangers comment, some just smile, others ask what it is. I've been noticeably "sniffed" countless times! I've even been told that i smell good enough to eat! This scent is as close to a sex potion as it gets!! Try it - you won't be disappointed! ;)

  • ALEKSANDRA04/04/2004

    Sexy, unusual, complex fragrance!

  • TALL THERESA03/23/2004

oh my god, I love this perfume. I know that NOT every perfume is right for everyone and smells different on other people but this one is definately a MAN Magnet, I have been told that this perfume suites me to a T and that I smell soooo sexy, any good comment you can think of I have received from this perfume and the men I attracked or should I say the amount of men is outragous, I think a mixture of this perfume as well as my being 5 feet 11 inches attracks them all !!! If they ever stop making this perfume, It would break my heart!!

  • BRON03/20/2004

My mum was given this for a present, I want her to give it to me as I don't think it suits her its not florally enough for her and I absolutely love this interesting scent! I will keep trying!!

  • KATHY1103/19/2004

I get compliments from men and women alike when I wear this. It is sex in a bottle! I bought the body lotion also and layer it for extra long staying power. If you like vanilla almond type fragrances like Etro Heliotrope then you'll love this too.

  • AMANDA03/13/2004

my husband said to me 'it smells a bit like a dentist's waiting room'. However, I somehow belongs to the group of people who LOVE it. I think it's my INNERCHILD who loves this creamcaramel-like sweetness, actually. When I wear it, I feel like I am indulging myself in a candy store..... If you like fruity kind of aroma, but NOT floral-feminine kind of perfume, but want to try something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT, this perfume is worth trying. I normally wear Tresor, Sensi, Dolce Vita, Casmir, and I also like Twice, Blu, Deep Red, etc.. (By the way, my husband also commented on Sensi as 'hospital-like'!! I like Hypnotic Poison and Sensi equally, and think both are powderly in the same kind of way.)

  • SANYA03/05/2004

I bought Hypnotic Poison two weeks ago and at the first I was like "Oh my God this smells wonderful...I've never tried something like this before". And I was wearing it every day...It smells wonderful... Unfortunately, one evening I put it too much and I was feeling so sick and horrible..I had to change all my clothes, and after that night I can't even smell Hypnotic Poison. Don't really know what happend but I feel sick and horrible everytime I smell it... Can't belive I liked it so much...Yuck!

  • NEAKIE02/21/2004

My brother who know's Im a perfume junkie told me a young lady he was seeing had this unforgetable fragrance. I happened to see it in the store, picked it up and all I can say its a scent men appreciate almost like something else I won't say.

  • SUSAN02/20/2004

I read a couple years ago that a famous celebrity used this scent, but only the shower gel and body lotion NOT perfume. I bought them, tried them & ITS AMAZING. Please give the body set a try w/o the perfume.

  • JANCYE02/19/2004

I love rich, spicy amber -toned frangrances and this one seemed different and interesting but then I figured it out - the mian under lying note seems to be Play-Dough! I told a friend this who wears it and now that's all she can smell in it too! I don't know there is something about Dior's frangrances that give me a headache whthin 15 minutes of wearing them. I'll pass on this one

  • LIBERTY02/12/2004

I have gotten so many compliments when I wear this. Every time I go out with it on, somebody tells me how good I smell. It works wonderfully with my body chemistry. I either am told that I smell "delicious" or "sexy". I love this stuff!

  • D01/25/2004

Men dislike the name, but love the scent.

  • JSTAGRL01/06/2004

this is an absolutely beautiful fragrance, perfect for any occasion....I love the vanilla and almond notes in it. EVERYONE complimented on it.

  • OANA12/25/2003

If you want something just as oriental, but lighter, try Initial by Boucheron. I just love that fragrance. Now I received for \christmas also Hypnotic and I fell in love with it...it's extremely rich and luxurious. I had J'adore last year and now I can make a difference between Dior's perfumes by their type. Hypnotic is more ellegant and more womanly :)...Makes me feel profoundly sexy and classy. It's warmer than Allure, but has the same ellegance of great perfumes. Hypnotic will be my fur coat for this winter...

  • CARLA12/18/2003

Is a best seller in the fragrance dept. I have sold many to unsuspecting men that want something nice and different. They buy it for their girlfriends that have never heard of it. Men LOVE this stuff. The people that buy it the most are between 25 and 40. It's young and hip. It stays with you a long time.

  • CLAUDIA12/10/2003

This is my absolute favorite fragrance. It just smells delicious on my skin, especially after wearing it for a few hours. It dries down to something indescribable: a bit sweet and vanilla but also slightly spicy and sexy. At least three different men have told me I smelled "divine" in this perfume. For me, it's a keeper.

  • CARAMEL12/07/2003

It stongly reminds me of the smell on the beach. like seashell - or John Frieda hair spray for beach bums. i mean not sexy as others claim. sorry.

  • PELIN12/06/2003

This is the best perfume. It smells very sexy..It really hypnotizes me

  • CHRISSY11/24/2003

After having a sales associate beg me to smell this..I don't get the big deal..he was totally in love with it. I did'nt find it appealing at all..and the bottle is just awful looking. I had to pass this one up. Maybe its wonderful on some people..not for me.

  • DEEDEE11/12/2003

I love this scent and I guess it may be because I am a scorpio. It agrees with my body chemistry. A favorite in my collection.

  • DEEDEE11/12/2003

I first tried this in a dept store, I thought the scent was ok but nothing spectacular. I received a bottle as a gift and I'm sold. The scent goes on a little strong but the dry down is well worth it. It has a very unique smell that is not overly perfumy and offensive. It dries down to a nice powerdy, almond vanilla smell. I really can't give this fragrance the justice it deserves. I've been given so many complements on this scent I think it may become a signature. I think it is just wonderful.

  • HOL11/03/2003

Love this scent... great for scorpios. I use just dabs on my wrists and neck since it is a strong fragrance. Very sexy!

  • VICTORIA10/29/2003

Every single time i go out, guys flock to me and tell me i smell amazing. This perfume is definietely hypnotizing...

  • ABIGAIL10/21/2003

and just bought me a complete set (with some other interesting Dior samples enclosed). I love it too, especially for cooler weather. I do love vanilla and spices in fragrances. This is definitely one of my top five favorites.

  • DEBBIE10/07/2003

Bought this last winter and thought it was different but definitely nice and certainly wearable. After a wear or 2, I thought, naw, this isn't for me. But I have worn it since the weather has turned cooler here in New York and I have to say I ABSOLUTLEY love it. The perfumes I thought I liked more, I don't like anymore. I find myself comparing every other perfume to this one. Maybe I have found a signature. Who nose?

  • ELENA10/02/2003

Have you not thought, have you not smelled the dominant grape smell in Poison? Smells like Kool Aid.

  • MAD MAGGIE09/22/2003

I couldn't really compare this to any other scent; it really is unique. combines a soft, warm edible with a powdery note. I wish I could wear this, but on me it smells of...play dough:(

  • MINNIE MOUSE09/07/2003

When trying this for the first time, I found it disgusting. I used to work at a fragrance counter and all the women would douse themselves with this. I remember feeling suffocated and queezy. However, I went back to the counter to visit today, and was compelled for some reason to try it. My reaction was surprisingly opposite of what it used to be. I loved it so much!!!! I couldn't stop smelling my wrist on the way home. It is very soft, sweet, and powdery (completely vanilla). A few posts mentioned that it has a play-dough smell to it and the funny thing is that it does. However, I find it comforting and round. Maybe I'm crazy, but I love it. It will be my next purchase!!!!

  • KAREN09/03/2003

The last time I wore this scent, a man I didn't know actually stopped me in the street and said, "What perfume are you wearing? You smell intoxicating!" I'm not kidding. It's a contradictory fragrance, though, sweet and dark at the same time, so if you're looking for a simple, clean scent, this isn't for you. If you're looking for something more complex, though, then this is a beautiful choice.

  • KATE NIVER09/02/2003

I happen to love it - but as you can see from the ratings above, you'll either love it or hate it - but if you love it, you will LOVE it

  • HAIRKUTER08/07/2003

Love this perfume, I liked the sweetness along with the spicy mixture to it. My being a hairstylist has my wrist close to many clients faces and each and every time I wear this I am always asked what is that perfume you are wearing? I find the men like the vanilla and the women like the softness to it. You'll love it!

  • ALICIA07/24/2003

This is one of the most beautiful scents i've ever smelled and even though it's sweet it doesn't make you suffocate. It's perfect!

  • CC05/07/2003

    Gives me a headache........not pleasant

  • M04/25/2003

Only if you want to kill him. If you want to see him again use something "normal"-like 212 by Carolina Herrera.

  • OPHELIA04/18/2003

Hypnotic Poison is delicious, with just the right amount of venom to be alluring and a little ominous. A girlfriend of mine was wearing it when we went out to eat one night and i smelt it as soon as i got into her car. My first thought was *what is that yummy incense smell?* then i asked her and she told me what it was. The very next day i hopped online and bought myself a 1.7 ounce bottle of the perfume, and was thrilled when it arrived. Not for everyday - but i did like it for the winter. It warmed those cold winter days and nights right up! And that bottle! Red hot and sexy as hell! i also like spraying a bit in my room before i leave for work - when i come home the whole place smells yummy!

  • ANN S04/04/2003

I first tried it in the form of the body lotion (the sparkly one). At first I hated it, but the next day I tried it again and LOVED it. It has good staying power (even in the lotion)--even after washing my hands still smelled of it. Give yourself a chance to get used to it. It IS slightly sweet, but only a tiny bit so--mostly it is rich and luxurious. Now I'll be buying the large EDT bottle :) PS: If you like a rich smell but cannot stand really sweet smells like Angel or Lolita Lempicka, go for this one. It's great.

  • RHONDA04/01/2003

bought this perfume after a sales associate recommended it. I just love it. Always get comliments.

  • YO-YO03/27/2003

One of the best CD's perfumes, but I don't wear it often (usually sometimes in winter - when it is cold). Extraordinary, extravagant - could be great for the same type of woman. A very special fragrance. At least it is not boring at all...;-)

  • JANNINE03/26/2003

    Try hanae mori butterfly

  • JANNINE03/26/2003

This perfume was so unique to me that the moment i smelled it I begged my friend to lend me money to buy it. The bitterness only adds to the intrigue. It's bittersweet, diabolical, like me. However, I find that nobody can even smell it on me unless they put their nose an inch away from the spot where i sprayed it, and it doesnt last. But it smells so awesome im going to give it four stars anyways.

  • JACQUIE 03/21/2003

Every time I wear this scent I receive compliments. Men are truly drawn to this fragrance.

  • ANN03/13/2003

My boyfriend likes this scent best on me. I've had many compliments on this one, but I also know that a lot of people don't like it. Someone once said I smelled like the powder box of an old woman... I love the scent though, and I refuse to give it up :-) because it has something mysterious, something magical. It's warm and layered. It is a typical fragrance for winter, because it's quite heavy. I'll always have this one in my bathroom cupboard. It's a keeper. And the body lotion's nice too. It shimmers!

  • ARWEN02/28/2003

I like vanilla notes in general but this one smells too sweet and cloying on me. I prefer Dolce Vita .

  • BOBBIE02/24/2003

I had a sample of this when it first came out. I never took the time to buy it. Finally I rediscovered it and fee so lucky I did. It is a warm, loving, sexy fragrance. It's ME!

  • DANIELLE02/20/2003

I recently purchased Hypnotic Poison. I only wear it in the evening. The first few times I wore it I thought it smelled like something else I own - Angel. Angel is my favorite. It's amazing how you pick out something else so similar.

  • DANIELLE01/31/2003

I have had countless men stop me and tell me how good I smelled while wearing HP. One man asked me what it was called and when I told him Hypnotic Poison he replied "Well, I'm Hypnotized!" Cheesy, but cute! :) I have bought this several times and keep it on hand at all times! I think though it either works for you or it doesn't. My husband loves Allure on other women, but on me it is boring. So chemistry has a lot to do with whether or not a fragrance smells good on you or not.

  • CHAR01/18/2003

I came home from the department store with Poison on one arm, and Hypnotic Poison on the other. I, myself, preferred Poison. I was hoping for the same response from my husband. I asked him which I should buy, and he requested the Hypnotic. I asked him why he liked the Hypnotic better, he replied - "You smell like food." Nice oriental vanilla for the linger.

  • ZALE01/12/2003

That's for you. Takes about 3 hours to have a somewhat decent scent. But for the first three hours all I could smell was a plasticky almond smell. Final notes vanilla and sandalwood...

  • JANET12/31/2002

I have long loved Dior fragrances. I wore Miss Diro and Dioressence as a teenager in the late 1970s. But I really don't like Hypnotic Poison. It went on smelling just like rootbeer, and the dry-down was just like playdough. Not good at all.... On the other hand, I tried Addict, and I loved that one!!!

  • KATARINA12/22/2002

I was attracted to the bottle at first, there is something magical about perfumes in red bottles...I tried it and use it ever since. So nice, sweet and comforting...

  • D12/18/2002

At first I didn't like it. Then I smelled it again months later and found it intriguing. Now I love it. The vanilla in it reminds me of sweet ice cream!!

  • LUCIA12/09/2002

I share the same feelings as Mermiss. As much as I would like to to wear this, I just can't. I like the warmth delivered by the vanilla, but there is a bitterness to this fragrance that just doesn't work. I guess it smells like some kind of medicine after a while. Mermiss is right about the amount used, too. It has staying power and it sticks everywhere. Too much of it will make you nautious. I gave it three stars because it does seem like a well-made fragrance, though.

  • BROOKE12/02/2002

I love this perfume!!! It is so great. I love almost any perfume with vanilla in it and this one isn't too strong, but good enough to get lots of compliments. I wear it mostly in the winter or when I go out at night. The compliments never stop. I love any perfume made by Dior that has vanilla in it. If anyone knows any other perfume by Dior that has a wonderful vanilla smell but isn't too strong, let me know. (post it)

  • DANI12/01/2002

Since I like Angel and other gourmand scents, I decided to give this one a try. Unfortunately it didn't mix with my chemistry very well. It had a nasty thick vanilla scent, remisnant of the cheap Vanilla Fields I wore in high school. I felt almost nausous when I wore this out and had to scrub it off.:( I am so jealous of women who can carry off this perfume. I wanted this perfume to be my "evening time" alternative to Angel. Smells yummy on other women, but too strong for me. If anyone can suggest a light oriental or gourmand scent for evening......:)

  • SUMMER11/25/2002

I just love it; gives me completely deep sleep with a sweet dream . just wonderful to me; but here in Japan a little too strong when I was in Canada it was OK

  • JASMINE11/06/2002

All of the praising makes me want to smell it again, but the first time I smelled it, it smelled like wintergreen. Maybe I had a cold.

  • NINNA11/01/2002

This is the best Oriental fragrance to me - more contemporary than Shalimar, Must de Cartier, Opium or Obsession and much more intriguing. But put on just a little bit or a body lotion + just a spritz of a fragrance, beware it is very strong and less is more in this case. This is a very potent fragrance, you will feel very self-confident and strong when you wear it!!! But don't put too much. It is great. I don't wear it in summer but it is great for fall/winter.

  • PHIL10/30/2002

i have never smelled such a wonderful perfume for woman! woman will get what they want from there guys when they where this

  • STELLA10/29/2002

I like this perfume very very much, but it makes me feel sick.It is hard to explain:İt is totally gorgeous but thereis some note or some material in it that gives headache sometimes.I am very sorry about it.maybe not the perfume but some ingredient in it could be the reason:( do you know any other one similar to this one.

  • ANOUK10/28/2002

Yesterday I fell in love with this wonderfull elixir at the perfume counter.Isn't it bottle made by plastic?or I bought some fake perfume

  • DONNA10/03/2002

This perfume is unbelievable! My boss wore it and it always smelled awesome. Customers always compliment her on how great she smells. I thought it was because of her attractiveness also. I asked her why she smelled so damn terrific? After she told me sure enough I bought a bottle of my own. Let me tell you when I go out I get just as many compliments. Of course, the only place I don't where it is work.

  • JAMIE10/01/2002

I bought this and Jadore. This is perfect for when I go out on dates, go out to dinner or night out in general. I will not lie and see it will make a man weak in the knees and he will be all over you! :) Seriously though this is a terrific, original scent. Powerful

  • CARRIE(SARA)10/01/2002

i love it but u know what when u first smell it in the bottle it smells like playdough!!! i thought this was sort of funny.

  • ROXY09/30/2002

this scent sets me great, I ussualy love classics ones, I hope this one will follow them. modern, but comparable to the greatest: shalimar and opium

  • LANA09/27/2002

    old Play-doh. Bleh.

  • TATIANA09/17/2002

It's my favorite for a few years. On me it smells like a mix of jasmine, vanilla and a little bit of cedar, just to add some sophistication. To those, who feel sick wearing this perfume. Please put on just one spritz. The perfume is pretty strong.

  • MADELINE09/11/2002

This perfume smells like root beer, licorice and an ice cream shop, as described by others here. Oddly, these are not normally bad smells, rather good, but this perfume has a sickening effect on me and others who I asked to smell it. It actually turned my stomach somewhat. I can't imagine anyone would like this perfume...it's horrible!

  • BIG D GAL09/02/2002

I like Hypnotic Poison but not enough to buy. My sister has a bottle so if I'm in the mood, I'll take a hit of hers. My husband has severe allergies, so there aren't many fragrances out there he can tolerate, and this is a strong one. I prefer fall/winter use myself. Bath&Body Works has a line called warm vanilla sugar. Maybe it's me but has anyone noticed that it smells very similar to HP?

  • MADELINE08/31/2002

I hate Angel, with it's old fruit and patchouli smell and find Michael Kors too thick and sweet...would this perfume have the same effect?

  • TRINA08/19/2002

I love hynotic poison! It is so sweet and sexy! It attracts many! It's like vanilla with a kick! I need to get some because i miss it!

  • A.08/13/2002

I had high hopes for this perfume, but when the sales lady sprayed it for me, I was struck by how cheap and flat it smelled. The vanilla had the same mouldy swamp cooler pad scent to it that drug store vanilla scents often have. The bitter almond was faint and not a good balance for the vanilla. I'm very disappointed in this one.

  • LARA08/10/2002

THANK YOU BETHANY! Angel smells like no other parfum before and after

  • LARA08/10/2002

This one is something else... Ask your boyfriend about it!

  • MERMISS08/08/2002

I admit I have mixed feelings about this perfume. I love its exotic warmth but sometimes there is a masculine, bitter aftertaste (the bitter almond, I suppose?) that I do not care for. Perhaps if you mixed it with vanilla oil or lotion...but let this be writ in stone-DO NOT wear too much of this-you will regret it!

  • JOY08/05/2002

This is my favorite perfume right now! It smells light, sweet, and doesn't overdo the vanilla. It's just great...people always ask me what perfume i'm wearing and comment on it smelling good! Whenever I'm in the perfue section of a store nd there's a person next to me, I suggest they try HP right away. God, I just love this scent! But I've gotta buy a new bottle now b/c my mom and sister has been using it too.

  • YBW07/25/2002

Angel. I know alot of Angel lovers might hate me for this but Angel is disgusting I don't even smell chocolate just stinky patchouli but Hypnotic Poison smells delicious I agree with the licorice and vanilla comparison add flowers and there you go it is one of the best scents I have ever tried you simply must try it, just beautiful.:):X

  • MELH07/25/2002

I can't stand it! it provokes nausea!

  • YAMINI07/18/2002

People compare these because they're both sweet, "gourmand" scents, but Angel has a sharp patchouli note in it that tends to give a lot of people headaches, while HP does contain a darker note to it but is still much sweeter and food-like. Smells like cake. Yum!

  • BETHANY07/14/2002

Hi. Lately on lots of different sites people have been comparing a myriad of perfumes with Angel. I know we all have different noses, body chemistries and tastes but in my opinon this or any other perfume I've tried is not "just like Angel". Angel has a unique smell that is all it's own. I find all these "smells just like Angel" posts misleading. Angel smells like Angel.

  • BRIAN07/12/2002

My gf got this and I thought nothing could beat Jadore. Well this does! Even though It seems to smell better on her at night I love the power of this. I couldn't even explain the scent if I tried. It is a woodsy aromic scent and it turns me on! It is very different. If you ladies are sick of the same dull flower perfumes get this right now.

  • EVE07/01/2002

    Absolutely superb!

  • ROBIN06/28/2002

stronger scents. I think it smells like a combo of vanilla and licorice. I also have the lotion, which I use first, then layer with the perfume. My only issue is that it doesn't seem to last very long. Maybe I'm just so used to it I can't smell it anymore.

  • JULIE06/26/2002

Great scent! I always get compliments on it. It smells alot like Angel. Men love the combined smell of the vanilla and tropical scents. It's a hit!!!

  • LAURA06/25/2002

I just received this as a gift. This smell is absolutely what I've been looking for! I'm used to wearing floral scented perfumes and was dying to try something different. I'm very, very happy with this. On me, it smells like cotton candy.

  • BETHANY06/23/2002

Was intrigued by the name, had to try it. Went on very strong, kind of spicy. Dried down to a wood smell. Not exotic woods, not tropical woods, not even vanilla woods. One note on me:The smell of wood. It might work differently on you; on me-think Lumber Mill :-)

  • KATRINA06/21/2002

I love this fragrance! It smells of almond, vanilla, and cotton candy all in one. It doesn't take but one spray for the whole body. It is very different. I recommend it to attract men. Go an get it!

  • TRACY06/21/2002

I think this perfume is very beautiful. I also think that it isn't for everyone. I think that it has a sweetness to it but it is backed up by pure thought. Once someone at my work said she smelled vanilla perfume and thought it was me. I told her to take a sniff of my arm and she was so confused... but intrigued. so in a nut shell it is sweet, confusing, not for everyday, and not for everyone...

  • BRIAN06/02/2002

I was shopping in Dillard's after I bought some Givenchy Pi we went to the perfume section to the Christian Dior counter and had all the perfume testers. This is a very very different perfume. I couldn't even go into detail what this scent is only it is exotic and sexy. Not your boring zzzz flowery perfume. This is hardcore stuff for girls that want to try something totally different.

  • SUZANNE04/20/2002

I love this fragrance. It smells like cake, ice cream, and other pleasant things. American men don't seem to like it as much as European men, though. However, whenever I wear it, at least a few people stop me to tell me how good I smell!

  • CHIARA04/18/2002

It's an intriguing, sensual and sophisticated scient, and I love it very much!

  • MONICA04/14/2002

If you are sick of all the frou-frou, flowery/citrusy little-girl scents, and are looking for something sexier and more sophisticated, then this is it.

  • HILDIE04/13/2002

I have to take issue with the comments posted on this board that claim that this scent is too sweet. This is indeed a very sweet smell, like ice cream or candy, but it also has a disturbing, contrasting, spicier note that really complicates the fragrance and makes it really very grown-up.

  • CARLA04/02/2002

Ice-cream-factory! That's not a bad description. It is a nice smell, lots of Vanilla, but there are lots of nice smells that are not really for perfumes. It is not very refined too smell like candies

  • JM04/01/2002

I don't know about Hypnotic Poison..sometimes it's appealing, very different, but other times I feel like I am in an ice cream factory!

  • MAGGIE03/20/2002

This fragrance was so appropriately named. It is mezmerizing, dreamy, sexy. I have quite a collection of fragrances and whenever I apply this one I always get a very favorable response from people. If you ever have the opportunity to purchase the candle - it is so fragrant - even without burning it!

  • JULIE03/12/2002

I think this smells very similar to the perfume Angel. They both have undertones of vanilla/chocolate with a fruity smell too. I just wish it were cheaper! LoL

  • RACHEL03/09/2002

i can still remember the first time i smelled hypnotic poison. my now girlfriend was wearing it and i became addicted immediately (to the perfume, not her.) it is by far my favorite scent ever and every time i smell it i think of her.

  • GAIL02/20/2002

LOL! That's funny! About the scent, I don't really care for it.

  • MAGGIEMAE02/17/2002

    but HATE the Poison fragrance.

  • LYNN02/12/2002

    Better than Obsession

  • JUDY02/09/2002

this is just the strongest fragance ever,it is so strong it gave me a headache,so sweet, yuck

  • AIMEE12/19/2001

It is alot softer than the name and packaging would imply: Mouth-watering sweet almond but to summarize: almond-whipped-cream topping; Drydown is rubbery-balsamic-vanilla-almond. I am not the biggest fan of "gourmand" scents, but this is an example of how it can be done well.

  • PAT MOORE12/13/2001

I love the product. But, do you have the body lotion?

  • MAI12/09/2001

if you feel like choking everyone around you....

  • LOLA11/27/2001

A fellow co-worker came into work one day wearing this wonderful fragarance. UMMM ... this is delightful stuff. Whenever I wear it, I feel so confident and sexy! Please don't ever stop producing it! :)

  • ANGELA DELGADO11/26/2001

This is also a great exotic sweet and spicy fragrance that i like wearing. I need to get another bottle.

  • DD11/18/2001

Kris, lucky you, you just dont't like this fragrance, but HE doesn't like me. Or he's just so shy, he doesn't want to call me. I'm so sad, I feel like a sheet (sorry, girls!). I like Hypnotic Poison, but who cares for it now!!!I hate Hypnotic Poison and everything when I can't speak with him.

  • DAVE11/17/2001

do you realize you're paying more to smell good than you are to fill your tank w/ gas for oh i don't know a week.

  • KRIS11/15/2001

After reading about how wonderful this fragrance is, I bought a bottle. I want so much to like it, but I can't. It makes me feel vaguely nauseated, and gives me a headache. No men have complimented me on it either, contrary to promise. Maybe it's just my body chemistry. I read a study once that showed that women find the sweat of men who share their genes repellent. Perhaps there's a bit of my brother's sweat in Hypnotic Poison...

  • RITA11/15/2001

This scent is absolutely delicious. I love the bitter almond. It's the one dark, dissenting note among the other sweet ones, and the way it contrasts with the vanilla is what makes the scent so complicated and unforgettable.

  • V.11/11/2001

Hypnotic Poison is terrific! Strong but not vulgar. I like it very much and feel excellent and very confident when wearing it.

  • ROBERT11/09/2001

Very powerful stuff. Doesn't smell bad at all, but it's SO strong. One spritz should do it.

  • SANDI11/08/2001

This perfume is absolutely wonderful, sweet and sexy...drives the men crazy, i will be wearing it for many years!!

  • GALE11/07/2001

One of the best i have ever bought and i have bought many. Drive,s men crazy. Which you would sell the bigger bottle

  • AMANDA10/25/2001

smells like candy. This is my absolute favorite perfume ever. It's marvelous. People tell me how great I smell all the time!

  • NANCY 10/24/2001

i just love this perfume. have been wearing it for almost 2yrs now and so many compliments on it. it has become my most favorite

  • MARILYN10/14/2001

I Love, love, love this fragrance. It has an intriguing aura about it.

  • PATRICIA10/12/2001

I can say I really hate heavy fragrances, I don't like orientals either. But I found Hypnotic Poison very intriguing, and interesting fragrance. The most contemporary and modern of all oriental fragrances, which are usually kind of old-fashioned. I feel good when I wear it, and in may opinion it is a very extraordinary perfume, with a personality. It has quite strong bitter almond note, which I usually don't like, but here it's OK, too. I don' like the bottle, it is plastic and looks somehow cheap, but I reccomand the perfume, especially for the evening. Body gel is excellant, too.

  • DEB10/04/2001

Its gross, I gave it to my cousin!!!

  • VIKI09/17/2001

Hm,hmmm! It's really dangerous. Interesting and very special perfume, but not for every day.

  • JUANDA WARE-STROTHER08/28/2001

UMMMMM... delicious. Nothing but compliments when I wear it. Combined with shower gel and body lotion... it's a winning combination.

  • CATARINA08/23/2001

First, it smells like make-up, then it becomes medicine-like. No good.

  • STEPHK08/20/2001

Just bought this one a few days ago, and my boyfriend is now showering my wrist with kisses. He loves this and so do I. Destined to become one of my favorites!

  • NICOLE 07/09/2001

I have been wearing hypnotic poison for a few months now. I get so many compliments when I wear this fragrance.

  • KATHI07/09/2001

I have been wearing this fragrance since it came out and have received nothing but compliments. This fragrance is the best scent Christian Dior has invented. THANK YOU THANK YOU

  • MARCY06/22/2001

this fragarance must have something about it that appeals to men. My husband searched hi and low for a fragrance to get me for Christmas. He said that when he smelled this he loved it. It is strong, but I wear it because he loves it. Very vanilla smelling in the dry down.

  • H.05/31/2001

    A delicious scent!

  • PHIL05/28/2001

first off all, I am a man and I must say: every girlfriend of mine WILL wear this...it is soooo good!

  • ILENE05/10/2001

this is one of a kind if you like sandlewood this is the one soo sensual

  • TRACEY 04/20/2001

..As a younger woman I loved Poison, but ,it became too harse for me as the years went by. I discovered Hypnotic Poison awhioe back, and absolutely love it. Can't keep the bottle from going dry !

  • MARCY04/19/2001

My husband bought this for me this Christmas because he sampled it at at the small and fell in love with it. I like it, but can only wear it once in a while because it is so strong, and I love strong smells! But this one- wow!

  • DEBBIE GUESS04/07/2001

the only fragrence that I have found that I can use and I love it.

  • MONICA03/24/2001

it will get you whatever your heart desires. sweet and spice in one red hot bottle

  • ROSEMARY03/14/2001

Poison is my favorite. But Hypnotic Poison choked me up the first time I tried it. So I stick with Poison or Tendre Posion.

  • AMBER01/09/2001

A scent that holds you in its grip. Once you've used this, you will never find another fragrance that is as warm, sexy and apealing as this one.

  • KAREN12/01/2000

This is sexy and yummy rolled into one perfume. Men find it addictive.

  • LYNN HOLLAND10/12/2000

    wonderfully subtle.. men love it..
