Mohammed Sani, I'm not surprised that your insightful grandfather wore Jicky. It was created at a time when men and women often wore similar fragrances, and men in particular enjoyed flowery colognes. It's too bad that men today are shy about doing that, since men's fragrances now tend to be boring! I love wearing Jicky - it is soothing and lovely - but I would also enjoy smelling it on a man.

  • KATHY02/24/2008

When I was a young woman, I was given a small bottle of Jicky perfume - the scent was so pure, and so rich like nothing I had ever smelled before (or since). The spray that most are referring to here is not the same as the pure perfume that is just touched on pulse points - something happens to the fragrence when it's put into a spray, it gets harsh - not just Jicky, but all of them. If you ever have a chance to get the perfume (very expensive and hard to find in USA) do give it a try, you won't believe the difference.

i just heard about jicky that my grandfather use to wear it. he was a man of God who travelled around the world, he died 1975 but wore this all his life and people say its was so beautifull on him, so its an obligation i find this perfum with my family. i heard as well that jicky was good but better because of him. his name was shiekh al islam alhaji ibrahim niass kaolack senegal. i m not surprised its so good.

  • MOLLY BROWN08/30/2007

Jicky is a superb fragrance from one of the great, first fragrance houses. I first wore this delightful fragrance when I was 13 years old. My Grandmere thought I was old enough to advance to a "woman's fragrance" that was in 1951. An elegant scent goes on for a long long time. These silly fragrances named after whatever bimbette of the day are a flash in the pan. Jicky, L'heure bleue, Mitsouko, and the Aquas are devine. The only other fragrance company I like as well as Guerlain are Lancome and Hermes.

  • DOLLY DAGGER04/26/2007

I was intrigued with smelling this fragrance, after hearing alot of positive reviews. I smelled it two different times, and both times, just couldn't get past the initial smell. Lavender, is not one of my favorite scents, even though, it is theraputic. (calming) Maya, give it a rest already, about how irresistible you are. LOL.

  • BERITANETTE03/27/2007

5 stars to this beauty! Amacing different, a little bit "men" in a elegant womanly way. A true classic

  • LINDA12/26/2006

I have loved this fragrance for 20 years. It is getting so difficult to find anywhere except online. I don't think Guerlain fragrances get the credit or publicity they deserve. I have yet to find another brand that I prefer to Guerlain. Oh, and this fragrance was the one preferred by one of the most famous women ever, Jaqueline Kennedy. Yes ladies, we have great taste.

  • MAYA09/22/2006

Because when I wear it,the reactions I get range from the total strangers(men) who start following me around, asking if they can come closer to SMELL me better, to the bold ones who ask me out and then fall apart when I tell them I'm married, finally to the women who somehow get really hostile when they detect it on me. I get that reaction a lot and for other perfumes too! For those reasons my husband has asked me to wear it only when I'm with him,to diffuse many potentially unpleasant situations...Of course, I don't always keep my promises, and that,of course,is the fun part.

  • LAUREN06/04/2006

Jicky, a diminuative of Jacques is not a trendy scent for hoochy wannabe's. This is a fragrance for a complex, classic and sensual woman. Lavender can be difficult to wear and I have found that Jicky really responds to monthly hormonal changes. At times this is very green on my skin, other times the lavender just pops. All I know is that my husband loves it and so do I. Apply to clean skin wait 1 hr and smell. You'll know if this is for you. This isn't a casual lazy day fragrance.

  • SARAH04/21/2006

Thanks for the advice! I'll try layering it with some lavender lotion or spraying it on my clothes. I'm now liking the sweet, camphorous edge too, for some reason. I think it sometimes takes a while to get used to a new perfume.

  • JB03/19/2006

Jicky edt does the same thing on me, the lavender fades very quickly. I really like this scent, its calming comfy and warm. I have noticed that the lavender lasts longer if I spray it on my clothes. Also another thing I sometimes do for a stronger lavender scent is dab on a drop or two of lavender essential oil, its quite innexpensive and it gives the Jicky a lavender boost that lasts a very long time. You might also try using a lavender scent body wash and a lavender body cream or lotion. Cheers! :o)

  • SARAH01/07/2006

I was so excited to get this perfume after hearing so much about it, but... does the lavender always disappear after just a few minutes? Because it does on me, and I'm just left with an overly sweet vanilla/sandalwood combination that's totally boring. I have the EDT refill.

  • RITA 12/27/2005

I remember reading about Jicky in a 16 Magazine article about Patti Boyd. I hadn't remembered it was made by Guerlain and it took me 22 years to find it (at Macy's). I'm never without it and it is definitely my favourite scent.

  • CLARISSA11/05/2005

Jicky is basically composed by lavender, rosemary, and fourgere, which are very different from Shilimar’s ingredients. Therefore, it is better not to expect a sweet and powdery vanilla note like Shalimar from Jicky because you will surely be disappointed. However, she has a very unique character to stand out on her own, sentimental but independent, fragile but daring, all intertwining in its very idyllic composition. Since she is my favorite perfume top over my other 80 collections, I recommend you trying edp version. I have heard many ones saying they sense a rusty note in the edt version, which maybe the sour note you detect from your bottle. However, I have never detected such a note in my edp.Good luck~

  • BAYLA11/02/2005

Can a perfume sour? I love Shalimar, and wanted to try Jicky. I bought a refill bottle, and have to say, it starts out sour smelling, and it never gets much better. I am disappointed with it. I am not blaming the scent, I wonder if I got a bad batch. Is it possible for a perfume, edt, to turn?

  • MELANIE08/25/2005

Jicky was the first 'quality' perfume I ever bought. Much easier to find in Europe than the States. Love that lavender! Patty Boyd, huh? I would call that a great endorsement.

  • ELIZABETH05/23/2005

Just adding that this was the favorite perfume of Beatle George Harrison's first wife, model Patti Boyd, when they met in 1964.

  • THE NOSE02/27/2005

Fear not. Jicky has lots less vanilla than Shalimar; it's a lot more refined fragrance. I've been using it since the 80s and it never precedes me in a room or lingers after I've gone. I think it's one of the best fragrances going. Enjoy!

  • CLAUDIA T.02/21/2005

Not much vanilla in my opinion. Lavender is the main note. Shalimar might smells sexier but Jicky is more graceful.

  • CLAUDIA T.02/20/2005

Lovely lavender makes this scent soothing and calm, tranquil and also idyllic. Perfect for daily wear. It smells neither overpowering nor fluffy or flimsy but demure and noble at the same time. Every time when I wear it, I feel like a poet roaming in a small lane of spring countryside and breathing the very first sweet lavender in the air. What I like it most is that it is a scent very little known in my country. When all the girls and women are chasing trendy scent in very limited market items, it just makes me smell so unique and gorgeous, totally different from any other. It was an avant-garde in the past yet still smells one-of-a-kind in the market nowadays.

  • CHLOE.F.PUFF02/05/2005

How much vanilla is there in Jicky? I like Shalimar, except there's way too much vanilla for my taste. Since there's no way to try it before I buy it, I appreciate anyones' comments on this.

  • BOMBSHELL01/16/2005

Count French writer Colette in there along with Mick & Sean. According to Laren Stover, this is one of the original "bombshell" fragrances. Very chic, very French, good for washing lingerie, too!

  • BOND11/09/2004

It smells fantastic, citrus, lavendar and basil and Sean Connery wears it too. I bet it smells even better on him than Mick!

  • BONNIE ANN10/01/2004

To my nose, the EDT is thinner and less long-lasting. I'd love to know where you found the EDP! I cannot even locate the parfum version... my favorite Jicky.

  • LOULOU07/25/2004

I tried jicky yesterday at the counter. I loved it, bought it, then realized that little bubbles accumulate on the outside of the pump extension, indicating propylene glycol is in the formula. I believe this is something the companies are sneaking in their fragrance product, but not listed in the ingredients, as in could be part of the "fragrance" part of the ingredients. Please boycott any perfume that has propylene glycol in it! This is the kiss of death to scents, and possibly the kiss of death for our health and our familys' health. Strangly enough by the next morning the stench I noticed on my arm was from Jicky I sprayed the day before. My family concurred that the smell was disgusting, not at all like a perfume, but some awfull chemical.

  • BOMBSHELL06/08/2004

Gals & guys, I just purchased some Jicky for myself for my birthday, as EDP, rather pricey but oh-so-nice. Part of my decision was based on descriptions I had read on this site. Now for my question, for all you knowledgable perfume lovers out there. What's the difference between Jicky as an EDP and as an EDT? Jicky smells powdery but somewhat leathery and amberlike on me. Would the EDT be the same but weaker? I'd REALLY like to try some of it in the fall, as I understand that this is the best time to wear such a strong scent. Please advise.

  • SHARON STONED04/16/2004

Mick Jagger actually wears Jicky??!! How nice to read that!! Oh my God... it must smell heavenly on him!* * * * * Five stars for Jicky & Sir Mick.

  • KELLEY03/11/2004

I love Jicky ... it's almost unisex as well. I agree with AuntGooey ... does not enter a room before you do. I work in a hospital and therefore cannot wear fragrance, but one can get away this this worn in the cleavage - only you know you have it on. Perfect for smelling very classy, even with jeans and a sweatshirt. Mick Jagger actually wears Jicky. An antique masterpiece they will never discontinue !

  • BONNIE ANN12/28/2003

Love this one. Has the classic Guerlain dry-down (a little vanilla, a la Shalimar) but the lavendar up front keeps this one so fresh smelling, but nostalgic, too. The lavendar is handled very well... it doesn't smell sweet, nor is it medicinal. It floats above and is supported by a light, ambery, incense note. Genius. In another perfumer's hands, this could have been a nightmare.

  • BERNY12/06/2003

I discovered Jicky while on vacation with my husband in Bermuda 11 years ago. He had always loved nothing but Shalimar on me until he smelled Jicky. I love Jicky for the office and weekends and always get compliments when I wear it. I only wish I could get its companion products (shower gel and body lotion) which seem to not be available any longer. Does anyone know where I could buy these? Thanks in advance!

  • DENISE12/04/2003

I was very disappointed in this fragrance only because I think it smells just like Shalimar, which I have worn before..I was looking for something different.

  • ANN11/20/2003

Spicy spicy spicy. And heavy. Not for everyone!

  • ADELE10/26/2003

Has been a fragrance in the family for 3 generations, my Grandmother, Mother and myself.

  • DIDI10/20/2003

This is the most exquisite perfume ever!! My Dad brought it to me from Paris when I was 15, it's been many years and it's still my favorite. Unique and sophisticated and not overpowering, I never tire of its fragrance, thanks, Guerlain!!!

  • AUNTGOOEY01/06/2003

So it must have a big fan base. Top notes of lavender, citrus, bergamot, lemon, mandarin and rosewood. Heart notes of rosemary, orris, jasmin, rose, vetiver and patchouli. Base notes of vanilla, amber, leather, tonka bean, benzoin, coumarin, incense and civet. Personally I can't wear Shalimar. Too heavy and too much vanilla for me. Supposedly Shalimar was created when the perfumer experimentally or accidentally poured an entire bottle of the vanillin, the new chemical version of vanilla, into a bottle of Jicky. And Shalimar was born. On me I first notice the fresh and aromatic notes of lavender and rosemary and some citrus. Then it dries to down with a slight spiciness (not heavy a la Samsara or Opium) and a little vanilla and leather. Very nice. Stays close to the body so it's great for office wear. Doesn't enter a room before you do. I wear this one a lot and I love the idea I'm wearing a perfume that has been around so long, with such a history behind it. It was the first "abstract" perfume ever, since before 1889 women's perfumes were evoking a particular flower or oil (like sandalwood). Used by both Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis and Sean Connery!

  • JESSICA08/28/2002

I love this scent. It smells a little like Shalimar, but where Shalimar is hypnotic and intoxicating, Jicky is clean. It's also very complex- it doesn't all hit you at once.

  • TINE07/25/2002

This perfume has a long tradition. I once read that it was the favourite of Francoise Gilot, the wife of Pablo Picasso. I adore it-even though it's a bit old-fashioned, there's something special about it which makes it unique.

  • LISA05/06/2002

I must say that I am longing for my jickyperfume, I have ordered it from france, in the meantime I enjoy samsara, guerlain is out-standing !

  • LISA 05/02/2002

this is the best perfume in the world, and I have tried many, I just adore jicky !

  • SYNDI02/03/2002

This scent has a long history in europe has being unisex. Very clean smelling with slight oriental spice.

  • AIMEE12/19/2001

The 1st time I tried it was 1996: I thought it was like a fragrant men's soap: clean but sexy and it was one of my favorites. I bought some online in 2001..Description: flat; citrusy; light spice; undertones of bleach. Blech!! What happened?

  • PETRINA12/10/2001

too spice-like for me...but still quite fresh for such an old-ish fragrance...my mum loves it!

  • SEAN12/08/2001

I love Jicky! It is a superb fragrance and although Iam a man I wear it and find it suitable.

  • LYNDA09/23/2001

Men love this fragrance because it is light and not overpowering. Every time I wear it, a man always makes a sweet comment. Try it. You'll see.

  • LORI SCHENK09/07/2001

This is a most unique scent. Every time I wear this...I get the most positive comments!
