Not excited and not as i expected. I adore the perfume and i was expecting something rich and divine but to me it smells very synthetic. So i prefer the perfume alone.

  • LENAGR11/17/2011

IMHO cinema is a treasure. I'm over 30 and i absolutely love it. I wear it from the morning with one spritz till the evening.I just ordered the body lotion and i'll come by for a review. Highly recommend....a masterpiece!

  • AMY03/23/2009

i actually finished the whole bottle. it's that good. rarely do i stick with the same scent but this one is very sophisticated. perfect for evenings. ladies, dont wear it just on special occasions.

  • DMARIE11/15/2008

I am reading R Shrest comment on this perfume and seems like something Maya would have posted.I have been noticing since people called her out she has been using other names and I don't believe any man would get on here and give a detailed description about a womens fragrance!

  • REBECCA09/30/2008

I just bought my first bottle of this perfume. I have loved it since it first debuted. It's so elegant and luxurious.... just embodies a hollywood star of the 1930's or 40's. I am 26, but I also tend to buy different perfumes than the average woman my age. It's divine on my skin!

  • SHARON07/22/2008

I'm a perfume addict and love to try new fragrances. I got a couple of samples and then sprayed it on my skin. It immediately burned me where I sprayed it! Bizarre...

  • LEEYA05/03/2008

When Monsieur St. Laurent envisioned Cinema, he must've had classic movie stars in mind--specifically, the likes of Greta Garbo, Marlene Dietrich, Sophia Loren, Catherine Deneuve et al... dark, mysterious, sensual, sexy & seductive femme fatales. To me, Cinema- with its deep, warm, smoky, nutty, vanilla flavor- perfectly embodies the spirit of these screen sirens. When I'm all dressed up & I spritz on Cinema for the finishing touch, I feel like I should be getting into a limo on my way to a red carpet event or something :) Gorgeous scent & equally gorgeous jewel of a bottle that deserves center stage on every dresser.

  • ADRIANNA01/08/2008

Wow!!! I have just opened my 15ml pure parfum bottle of Cinema and I am blown away! I took the top part of the gold box off and inside nestled in black satin was a gold colored bottle of Cinema made of very heavy metal. Holding it is such a great pleasure! The cap is so well made. I opened it carefully and got the first whiff of the gorgeous aroma!!! I put two tiny drops on my wrists. Minutes later after walking next to my husband, he asked what I had sprayed. Well, obviously a little goes a long way! How does it differ from the edt and edp? Well, I would have to try them all one at a time to say, but the pure parfum is soft and warm. I love it!

  • DARRSHAN01/03/2008

awesome awesome a great combo of floral, sweet and aromatic notes. a real star. amazing stuff

  • MIRIAMA12/17/2007

I don't think Cinema is for women 35 and above. I can imagine it on younger girls as well. Any perfume is not ragned by age. Anyway, Cinema is beautiful perfume.

  • CRAZY FREIND11/21/2007

hi am a man and i really liked this perfume i think its excellent for women from 22 years old and above its not casual at all it would be better to be waering on a fustian nice and elegant one its very very sexy turns the men on its long lasting i love it i dont know how dose it works on the bed but think it will make me wild i would bite every where lol

  • R. SHREST11/14/2007

Cinema is a very rich and elegant scent for that sophisticated woman who wears it when she's looking her most glamourous self. Best worn for those special dinners with your man or fun times with your friends in some classy bar or lounge (or big movie premiers). The scent comes off very rich and the sillage is great but won't force people near you to gasp for fresh air. Don't see it fit for girls my age (25) but can see this coming off great on sophisticated women out there 35 years young and above. Actually I'm picturing the hot and elegant Monica Bellucci wearing this with panache. *sigh* I'm daydreaming again. ;)

  • BARBARA W08/31/2007

I like this one. The florals, spice, and vanilla are blended very well. Retains that "French" feel. Sweet (but not foody) basenotes round out a very nice fragrance.

  • IZABELLA04/02/2007

My friend has this on and I absolutely loved it! It smells so fresh, perfect for Spring. I had to try it and it lasted on me all day. I kept on sniffing my arm. I went to bed and when I woke up 7 hours later, it was still on my arm! I bought it the very next day, I love it! The vanilla notes smell really yummy!

  • AMY03/29/2007

very elegant and luxurious. you definitely feel like million bucks. glad i bought this based on reviews. somtimes i strike out but not this time!!

  • LE NEZ03/23/2007

This perfume wears like candy as vanilla harmonizes this all of the sweet florals! Delicious without being too "Pop" oriented like so many American brands. I am sure this is popular at film festivals.

  • FRANCES01/09/2007

I really like this one, but I have a concern. Does it last? Has anyone worn Cinema and had lasting power? I tested it once, but did not spray enough.

  • SEXY KITTEN10/09/2006

the top notes seem to smell a little like pledge wood cleaner to me...once those are gone, it's very nice...I love vanilla scents too...very sexy and the boys go wild!! Some others I like are Angel, Samsara, hypnotic poison (but only the lotion, the perfume is too sharp once the vanilla wears off) shalimar, trouble (in VERY small doses) casmir, lou lou and tocade...hope you'll find something you like with one of those!

  • ANN08/06/2006

Love the bottom notes of vanilla, but not the top notes. If anyone knows of another perfume smelling like the bottom notes, tell me!

  • DIANE07/05/2006

First I received a sampler of this when I purchased another perfume. Using the sampler got me hooked. The almond is nice. I can tell when other ladies have this on. It is very noticeable to me and it has good silage. Very classy and also modern.

  • CAROL02/13/2006

Aside from loving the scent, I clearly notice the excellent quality in the YSL perfume. There is a difference among manufacturers. YSL used great quality ingredients when making Cinema. It is so obvious when you wear it.

  • ANEELA02/04/2006

You are most welcome. Mont Blanc Presence is not available in department stores. Only Mont Blanc boutiques carrry it and PE sells it also. However, the rest of the fragrances you could find at many department stores. Chanel Allure Sensualle & Chance Chanel are very nice also. I like to have all kinds of good fragrances and then wear them according to my mood & occasion, etc. I do love Cinema a lot, Paris from YSL is beautiful also.Take care. All the best.

  • LORI02/03/2006

This one does not last on me either. I had to return it. I bought Trouble by Boucheron and it has the same warm spicy vanilla scent and it lasts. Good luck, it really stinks to spend bucks on fragrance and have it not last.

  • ROBIN 01/31/2006

Dear Bets, Wow, thanks to all those great replies you've got dozens of scents to explore! Pretty neat, huh? I was just thinking, if you like Cinema -- gee, have i mentioned this already? My brain is like a sieve -- you might want to try L'Instant by Guerlain. It's got vanilla and wood with this intriguing honeyed twist you might really dig! Also, Narciso Rodriguez is in the same ballpark of richness; I personally think the EDP is more attractive than the much-different EDT, but you'll want to try both and see for yourself. Also, you might investigate Prada and Fendi and Shalimar Light; stylistically, they might be just right for you. Everybody's wearing Prada right now, so if you don't want to follow the sheep that might not be the best choice; come to think of it, that would make Fendi a big contender, because it's one that's been around long enough that all the hype surrounding it has long disappeared. It's woody and sultry, very classically proportioned. Tell me how it goes!!!

  • ROBIN 01/31/2006

Hi, there. Wow, that's incredible; just in the last few days, all I've been hearing is Gloria, Gloria, Gloria and how wonderful it is. Synchronicity, or WHAT?? Grrrr, though; another one of those times it's frustrating to be up here in Canada, where we don't get the same selection as you lucky women. I'll still be looking for it on-line, though -- and thanks very much for the hot tip!!!

  • ROBIN 01/31/2006

Great to get your message. I'm intrigued to read some of those unfamiliar names and I'm determined to track them down! That's not the first time I've heard the Montblanc juice praised by some pretty trustworthy noses, so now you've got me on a mission! Thanks greatly. R.

  • PERFUME-AHOLIC01/13/2006

From the house of Yves St Laurente, one can usually be assured of two things: quality and expense. But, as they say, u get what you pay for. Once again, the house has pulled it off with a top of the line, classy fragrance. This is a bold scent that paints a picture of its wearer as being a woman of sheer sophistication; one who is both confidence and comfortable in her own skin. Wear this and you will feel and smell rich!

  • MATUSHA01/12/2006

A fresh and luminous take-off. A flowered and sophisticated character. A ambrée and sensual structure

  • JAN01/09/2006

For me, Cinema is not at all like Hypnotic Poison. I can find a similarity with Trouble from Boucheron though. I dont care for Hypnotic Poison. It does not work on me. Cinema develops beautifully with my chemistry. Totally classy.

  • SINNAH01/08/2006

Cinema is so glam and so beautiful. I really love it. But the problem is that I end up having to reapply all the time and I mean every 20-30 minutes. And not it's not jsut my nose getting too used to the smell. No one can smell it. I've asked cvo-workers, friends and family to see if the can smell it and nothing. Perhaps I got a bad bottle if there really is such thing with new scents on the market. Maybe I'll try with a new bottle as I love the scent. Did anyone else find the same problem with Cinema? Would love to hear from you. But for now until I get a new bottle I'll just stick to my Omnia which on me does last and wear terrifickly well. Would give the smell of Ciname 5 stars but to me it cannot be a 5 star scent if no one can smell it.

  • TAT2DBETTIE10/18/2005

Robin, thank you so much for all your lovely suggestions! (nanette lepore is my new love as well!)Thanks to everyone else who offered up some suggestions too! I wrote them all down. I enjoy the classics because I don't want to smell like everyother young woman out there... with the new trendy scents. There are a few newbies I enjoy, but I prefer the "oldies but goodies". I like to stand out from the crowd and love when people ask what scent I am wearing! I just cannot get enough when it comes to perfume either and I am sure ALL of us here can relate to that! I also sampled Paris Hilton and Curious (both out of curiosity) and found that they actually smell decent! Paris Hilton's scent far better than Curious though. I might just purchase it. As for the other suggestions, a few I have and most I will be trying in the near future! I've made myself a checklist! hehe. Thanks again ladies, my scent collection (and the people who smell me) appreciates it!

  • NEL10/10/2005

Hi Tara, I also love Cinema, I'am A YSL. and CHANEL fragrance fan. But from what I ried, CINEMA is A Froral--Oriental Fragrance.

  • AB10/05/2005

All I can smell is the vanilla, I think so it reminds me of Hypnotic Poison by Dior. Does anyone else agree with this?

  • KRISTIN M.10/03/2005

Hi Robin...I love a lot of the same perfumes as you as well.....I have just discovered Gloria by Cacharel...it is awesome too...look it up and give it a try.

  • ANEELA10/03/2005

I sampled Sarah Jessica Parker's Lovely at the mall & thought it smelled very pretty. Pure Poison by Dior is very nice. Calvin Klein's newest addition, Euphoria, smells good too & the bottle is very pretty. I also like Mont Blanc's Presence, Ralph lauren's Romance, & Vera Wang. Cinema is superb indeed as are Opium & Organza.

  • ROBIN 09/27/2005

Ah, did I mention Just by Cavalli??? Tons of light wood and rich vanilla. . .and my new love is Nanette Lepore, all girly fruit and violets with yet more wood. . .

  • TANJA09/16/2005

Cinema has enchanting oriental notes that smells so rich and beautiful. It develops into a powdery yet clean scent with my skin chemistry. It makes me feel special. I know I smell great when I wear Cinema! No question about that! 5 Stars plus from me. This one is worth trying ladies.

  • ROBIN 09/14/2005

Oh, and I mustn't forget Guerlain's Lovely Cherry Blossom (Limited Edition), Elizabeth Arden Red Door Revealed, Elizabeth Arden Provocative, Gianfranco Ferre's Lei/Her (topnote of apple sorbet: yummy). . .did I mention Salvatore Ferragamo Incanto? Ah, and Stella. Now, any other Perfume Emporiumers, if my nose sounds a bit like your nose (c'mon, Lizzie, I know you're out there) please let me know what might be lurking out there that I've missed. I can't seem to get enough fragrances!!!!!!!!!!

  • ROBIN 09/14/2005

Wow, Tat2dbettie, we share the same nose. Of the fragrances you already own, I own almost all: Wish, Light Blue, Blush, Brit and L'eau par Kenzo! So, for what it's worth, you may be interested in tracking down these for a sample (I love 'em all): Hanae Mori (Butterfly bottle), Magnetism by Escada, Incanto, La Perla Blue, Venezia, Capri, Paris Hilton (don't laugh!), Curious by Britney Spears (don't laugh!), Still by Jennifer Lopez (don't laugh! Much like Blush, but less expensive), Sui Love, Chance, Realities (not the Liz C. one, the pink one), Shanghai, Silver Rain (gorgeous, insanely expensive) Flowerbomb, Black by Kenneth Cole, Versace Woman, Versace Crystal Noir, Attraction by Lancome (underrated!!), Un Jardin sur le Nil by Hermes, Couture! by Moschino (glamourous), Very Irresistible, Black Cashmere (very different!) Love in Paris, Alfred Sung Pure, Maxmara (delicious!!!). To me, they've all got a beautiful balance of flower, fruit and wood, while being complex with real personalities of their own. Good luck.

  • PETUNIA09/08/2005

Dear TAT2D, good for you for not wanting to follow the crowd! Classics have the advantage of keeping you from smelling like all your girlfriends. Maybe you could also try classic standards YSL's Rive Gauche, or Cabochard, or Jardins de Bagatelle by Guerlain. You might also like Nirmala or Molinard de Molinard--classic siren wear. A mature French friend says that when young women wear the classic scents it breathes life back into them...and as other posters have said, a young (and interesting) woman can wear a classic perfume as she would a beautifully cut, vintage suit....good luck

  • TAT2DBETTIE09/07/2005

Thanks for all your lovely suggestions!! I will be running to the perfume counter to try a few out. I actually just recently bought Chanel Chance and Vera Wang. I love both of those, they work well with my chemistry. I will also take the advice of letting ME wear the perfume and not the other way around. I will wear Cinema... it won't even know what hit it. :-p Thanks again!

  • TARA08/31/2005

Thanks for the description. So nice of you to post it! I think the ingredients sound wonderful. What a nice combination. Guess that is why I like it so much!

  • ANNETE08/29/2005

i have this perfume, and it's so very pretty to wear. i work in retail and get alot of compliments on this. this is a very soft and feminine smell. gals, you'll love it!

  • ANEELA08/25/2005

Have you tried Chance by Chanel, Pure Poison by Dior, & Vera Wang? maybe you will like them, they are all pretty & long-lasting fragrances and good for women of all ages I believe. YSL Cinema is gorgeous & if it works well with your body chemistry then do wear it coz it is very long-lasting & classy. I was in the mall recently & sampled the new Guess fragrance & Lovely by Sarah Jessica Parker, you could check those out also. Hope this was helpful.

  • SYLVIE08/24/2005

Hi Tara, I found this description via the Internet: "Cinema (Women) : 2004 Yves Saint Laurent(PPR) France. Olfactive family: Floral Sweet! Olfactive description: Fresh Citrus(Bergamot) Sweet Floral (Orange Blossom, Jasmine, Cyclamen, Peony, Clementine) Ambery Musky Vanillic. Perfumer: Jacques Cavallier." (JC is a very popular and successful perfumer!) Maybe the warm ambery and vanillic drydown of Cinema reminds you on a floriental, but for my nose it's more a complex, modern/classic floral. Very feminine. Greetings from Germany, Sylvie :-)

  • VICTORIA08/23/2005

This message is probably way too late but just happened to stumble across this site today. I too have the same problem with scents being either too yound/old I found the perfect scent Lacoste was launched in 2003, it smells amazing good enought oo eat without being sickly just perfect for my age & lifestyle, and can be worn either both day & night

  • PERFUME JUNKIE08/19/2005

Bettie, don't worry about a scent being young or old. If you do that, you're letting the scent wear you, and it's YOU who should wear the scent. Age has nothing to do with what scent you prefer. Character and attitude do. So go ahead and enjoy whichever fragrance you like. Remember, YOU wear the fragrance, not the other way around. Good luck. :)

  • GINNY08/17/2005

In response to a previous comment, I can see that this may not be interested for a young teenager or 20-somethings but it's definitely not "old." As a professional 30-something I just adore it! I have all my other bottles of perfume (and there were many) and put them in the closet. I have found my scent! Warm, sparkling, elegant, sexy, but not overwhelming for the workplace, FANTASTIC!!!

  • ANEELA08/12/2005

I love Cinema, the dry down is beautiful. It is very long-lasting, I can still smell it on my clothes the next day. Works wonderful with my body chemistry so I give it 5 stars. YSL fragrances are expensive but they are definitely worth every penny.

  • MAYA08/10/2005

I too love Cinema but find it a bit too glamorous to be worn all the time... Maybe you could try Just Cavalli or Baby Doll... I see that your taste is very diverse when it comes to fragrances from the list you have posted... I too love Blonde by the way :) Maybe you also want to try Burberry London or Tender Touch by Burberry... The fragrances I have suggested are all quite different from each other but also very beautiful and you just might like one of them after all :) Best of luck and let me know how you make out :)

  • LAILA08/06/2005

Cinema and Trouble are quite similar to my nose. As I was deciding which I prefer, I sprayed some Cinema on one wrist and Trouble on the other. Must admit that they are both wonderful and very close. But, for me the dry down and staying power of Cinema is better. There is a part of its powderiness in the dry down that is more elegant and classy some how. So, I chose Cinema.

  • TAT2DBETTIE08/03/2005

So, I tried Cinema and I do like it. I am not sure how to place it though... I am 24 and I feel a bit too young to wear it. Well, I actually feel that way about a lot of scents. Either they are way too young smelling for me or too mature! I have Chanel #5 but I wear that only for special occasions since I feel it is a bit too mature for me to wear anywhere else! I also have Reaction for Women by Kenneth Cole, but I feel that might be too young and trendy for me! I want something for me, a younger sophisticated woman, something just on the brink of being too mature but not, and something classic but not trendy. Scents I have in my collection include: Issey Miyake, Wish by Chopard, D and G Light Blue, Marc Jacobs Blush, Versace Blonde, Carolina Herrara 212, Burberry Brit, and L'eau par Kenzo. Anyone have any other suggestions? Help!

  • DEBBIE08/01/2005

Cinema has a great dry down. Creamy vanilla, amber notes. This exact smell is what I had been searching for in a perfume. This could be my first signature scent!

  • TARA07/30/2005

Does anyone know what category Cinema is in? Is it oriental? or floriental? Dont know what other options there are, but am very curious how it is defined. Any ideas?

  • TARA07/30/2005

Cinema is so classy! It starts out with a fresh citrusy note and develops into a smooth, gorgeous, classy, sensual and divine fragrance that just gets better and better with time. On me it lasts very long. I love to smell my clothes after wearing Cinema, they smell soooo good. This one is super! And I have gotten compliments when I wear Cinema. There is some similarity with Trouble from Boucheron and maybe something similar with Addict from Dior. Not exactly the same, just something in a similar scent family I think.

  • MAYA07/26/2005

This fragrance is so beautiful, & so well put together!! I have to say you feel super-sexy wearing it... I've asked a few co-workers what they thought & they all loved it as well... My only concern is that even though I can small all my other fragrances on me for hours this one seems to have disappeared as soon as I've put it on, and yet everyone else can still smell it long long after. So I have to be careful when wearing this one to resist the urge to reapply and reapply and reapply... You know what I mean :)

  • EMILY07/21/2005

When I sprayed it on a tester in the store I was puzzled -- where are all the great comments coming from? But I tried it on myself anway. WOW! Fantistic!! My advice, if you are looking for a sophisticated but not "old" smell with some lovely vanilla undertones -- dive in and try it on. You won't regret it.

  • ZELJKA06/21/2005

I agree with Tayana, it's sweet but not too strong; it's modern and sexy, but at the same time rather classic.

  • ANNA06/19/2005

I love this as a winter fragrance---on me it smells very spicy. I do wish that YSL would put out more bath products in this lovely scent.

  • DEEVEE06/14/2005

True to its name, Cinema makes you feel like a movie star! When I'm feeling glamorous & wanting to be noticed, I reach for this modern, rich, lush, long-lasting,sexy scent from my wide array of fragrances!

  • JESSICA06/04/2005

This perfume smells unbelievably good, its rich and intense and very sensual. I just spray a little on my wrists and just enjoys sniffing on me all the time. This perfume is so unusual and there is nothing in it that I dont like, it is perfect, and I thought I would never find that one. Delichous!!

  • FRANCES06/03/2005

I really like this one, but I have a concern. Does it last? Has anyone worn Cinema and had lasting power? I tested it once, but did not spray enough.

  • PRISCILA06/01/2005

Reaaaaaaaally Good. Excellent staying power. Femenine and sexy

  • DB05/31/2005

I love this scent. One of the few I don't get sick of after a few hours of wearing. Since summer is approaching, I recommend the glittering body oil; it provides the perfect amount of fragrance and is not too shimmery.

  • KEIRA05/29/2005

Absolutely excellent stuff: Feminine, delicate, soft but persistent, classic and trendy at the same time. Enjoy!

  • ANN05/29/2005

Cinema is just gorgeous. I love the way it smells on me, and have received complements when I wear it. Gorgeous!!!

  • TAYANA05/25/2005

YSL is not my favorite designer because of the heaviness and sweetness of most of it's perfumes, however this one is a piece of work. It is very sophisticated and at the same time modern. It is relatively strong with amazing staying power...unlike anything I've seen before...
