My mother got a gift set of Safari and didn't want the Climate Response cream, so she gave it to me. This stuff was awesome, it went on creamy and quickly dried to a powdery finish, and it smelled sooo good. I liked the Safari in perfume form, but it was just a hair more spicy than I like to wear every day. But the cream! It was more subtle, and it lasted all day long. I've heard that's often the case with creams vs perfumes, if the perfume is too strong, the cream will be just right.

  • WILDFLOWER03/15/2008

I used to wear Safari and liked it very much. Try Opium YSL. Believe it or not, at least on my skin, the drydown is very similar to Safari.

  • FRAGRANCE JUNKIE02/10/2008

My friend Rosaria mailed me a sample of this heavenly scent all the way from Brazil, and I knew immediately I 'd have to have it! Normally, I do not like Ralph Lauren's fragrances. Back in the day when Lauren came out and EVERYONE was wearing it, I developed a strong dislike for the scent. And ever since then, every one of their new fragrances has had the same negative effect on me. How surprised I was to discover a gem in Safari. I totally love it. It is everything I like in a perfume. The green opening notes remind me a tad of Chanel No. 19 which I adore. But soon after the floral notes come through, and then the sultry smoky base notes and voila! Perfection! To me this is a day and sexy night scent. Lasts well too. Beautiful bottle that I can easily hold and spray. Safari takes me on an olfactory journey that I will not tire of. Thank you Rosaria!

  • BLUERAIN12/01/2007

I first encountered Safari when I was 15 years old and fell in love. I have been in love with it ever since. My favorite parfume of all!!!

  • CONNIE09/11/2007

Most fragrance that was ever made. Guess what Ralph Lauren is making it again after popular demand. They sell it on their website now but of course at top price.

  • GREEKGIRL08/10/2007

I think the closest youll get to Safari is Boudoir they do smell very similar to my nose, the only difference is that Boudoir is a little more of a sexy frag so id wear it at night and wear Safari in the day, both are very nice for their differences.

  • SAM06/07/2007

I've been wearing Safari for years.I love perfume and own about 15 different ones, but Safari will always be my favorite.

  • JUDI W*03/27/2007

I bought this, love bottle, but to me it is offensive for some reason, but Mom likes it. I'm glad, because I got it off of Ebay, and it wasn't that cheap. Not for me fragrance...

  • NO NAME02/06/2007

Dori.......if this is your favorite, why are you looking for anything else? Just enjoy your favorite and let it become your signature.

  • CLARE12/22/2006

If you believe the ebayers selling Safari it is supposed to have been discontinued :( but try Insolence by Guerlain, I have been wearing it for a couple of weeks and noticed today that the very last notes of the dry down remind me of Safari which I wore all the time in the early 90's

  • DORI12/12/2006

help, this is my favorite perfume. i can't find anything i like as well. please suggest

  • KATHRYN12/11/2006

I have been wearing Safari since it was first offered. I can't tell you how many times I've been stopped and asked what I was wearing. It's just perfect for me. Sometimes I wear Samara or Shalimar, but I always go back to Safari. It is my signature. I sure hope Ralph has not discontinued it! I have several bottles stashed in my linen closet and will hoard them if I have to!!

  • LISA09/25/2006

PAULA, I LIKE SCENTS LIKE THIS ONE AND I THINK, THERE'S FEW SIMILAR ONES, GUCCI EAU DE TOILETE FOR WOMEN (THE ORIGINAL ONE IN TALL ISH BOTTLE WITH INGRAVED STRIPES ON IT AND GOLD STOPER PINKY COLORED EAU DE TOILETE), YOU'LL DEFO LIKE THAT ONE ITS FRESH SOFT FLORAL GREEN, BUT HARD TO FIND NOW. AND THERE IS ANOTHER GUCCI ENVY A LITTLE BIT SIMILAR TOO AND ANOTHER ONE THATS CLASSED AS FLORAL FRESH GRREN, SIMILAR TO SAFARI IS A 5TH AVENUE FROM E.ARDEN. IF YOU DONT LIKE ANY OF THESE PERHAPS ONE OF THESE YOU MAY... THESE ALL ARE CLASSED AS "SIMILAR": Elizabeth Taylor BRILLIANT WHITE DIAMONDS Chanel CHANEL Nº 19 Cartier SO PRETTY DE CARTIER Clinique HAPPY HEART Female THAT WOULD BE ALL FROM ME CHEERIO

  • HISAKO09/05/2006

Now I remember the dry-down! vivienne westwood's first one smelled exactly the same dry down as this.

  • HISAKO09/05/2006

I am not sure of the spell but the dry down of this perfume reminds me of Noctune, Nocturne?? from Caron. Since this was discontied, may be you want to try it. Something distinctive dry down smell of Safari is VERY similar to it, except a little milder.

  • HISAKO09/05/2006

I tried it from a mini bottle which was sold at a little store in the mall. I mentioned about the store and the mini bottle because it might be possible that what I tried might be a knock-off...? It smelled just like Raid ant spray on me. It was far from how the scent described on this post. If it is the smell of Safari, I of course don't care for it. what a dissapointment!

  • LUCY08/15/2006

Have they really discontinued this? I really will be lost without it. I can't believe it is described as 'floral', I would agree that it is a slightly oriental and can be quite heavy, not usually what I would wear but I do get a lot of compliments and it seems to drive men wild! Bring it back!!

  • MITZI FRIEND08/14/2006

I tried alot of other colognes and always come back to safari....but know they do this

  • KENDRA07/26/2006

I have worn this since it's debute.I get so many compliments, form men and woman. I can't believe they took it off the market, and was devestated when they did, can't find a replacement-I think personal skin smell has an effect on how it will smell on different people-I LOVE IT!!! Bring it back!!!PLEASE

  • *BARBARA W06/10/2006

Assaulted my nose, and not in a good way. Extremely dry, pungent, unpleasant scent. The vetiver note totally destroys it for me; however, if you like vetiver, you will probably love this fragrance. Its name is appropriate, though - it does remind me of an African desert, but I'm not going on this Safari....

  • ANGIE05/20/2006

I read such glowing reviews on this fragrance, on this site & perfumeemporium, and liked some of the notes, so ordered it, and received it. For me, P.U. I wanted so much to love it, and was disappointed that it smelled so flowery & spicy, that to me is not a good combo) Gave it to my mom, she likes it better than me, but it smells yucky on her too. Very womanly, I'll give it that, not a little girl fragrance, which is all I smell these days. Love that bottle, so pretty & feminine. Enjoy..

  • PAULA05/03/2006

I have been wearing safair since it came out in 1990. I get compliments from complete strangers. Has anyone found a similar scent?

  • ELLA04/08/2006

I'm glad this one is still available on some sites, however they must be selling old bottles so I would beware...I can't believe they discontiued Safari. They will probably bring it back, marketing technique. Lets hope

  • ELLA04/08/2006

I was suprised to hear this perfume being described as a floral! To me it is very oriental and just lovely. Has a very distinctive smell. I love it.

  • PATRICIA JONES04/06/2006

I've been wearing Safari perfume for years and the compliments abound! Everytime I enter a room or pass someone, they comment on the wonderful scent. I love it!

  • P03/17/2006

For those of you looking for a replacement try Chanel no.19 edt, similar drydown. Also Safari is still available on many perfume sites.

  • KATHY DUFFIELD02/03/2006

I've used this since it was introduced and had no idea it had been discontinued. It's the only perfume I have ever really loved. Aaaaaghhhh!!!!

  • LAUREN11/04/2005

I love Safari and have worn it every day for years. I went to look for new perfume yesterday and was so discouraged. Has anyone found anything like it?? What was Ralph thinking!!!!!

  • SKYSMILER09/21/2005

Since RL has decided to ditch us I say bye bye. Go see Rodrigeuz. It is fantastic! RL makes no other perfume like Safari. TOO BAD

  • TRACEY09/17/2005

there is no other fragrance like "SAFARI" pleeaasssseeee help me in my never-ending search!!!!!!!

  • TERESA08/25/2005

Safari has been my signature scent since it inception. I am lost now that it no longer available. I search and search for something in Ralph's line to compare but knowthing does. I hope someone at Lauren know this.

  • KIMBERLY08/09/2005

can anyone out there let me know what perfume is like the scent of safari, i've been wearing safari for over 15 years and i love it, pls let me know. thank u

  • BEBE BULLET07/08/2005

a real safari hunt. find the spots. ectasy. awesome. the wild beast in me comes out. very nice.

  • SOMUCHWOMAN06/10/2005

While Safari was generally available, I wore it as my weekend/sports activity fragrance because it was fresh and sporty while remaining very very feminine. During the same time period, I wore the fragrance Mackie for work and evening wear. Although the fragrances are not at all alike, I found them to be very compatible. For example, if I pulled on a sweater I'd last worn while wearing the other fragrance, the residual fragrance blended nicely with the one I was currently wearing. Since we've basically lost Safari :(, the rest of you Safari fans out there might want to take Mackie out for a test drive.

  • NANCY J. PARMELEE05/09/2005

WORE SAFARI SINCE IT BEGAN ON THE MARKET. NOW ITS NO LONGER PRODUCED. I' DEVASTATED; NO PRODUCT OUT THERE, EVEN BY LAUREN, THAT COMPARE'S!

  • SUSY S04/19/2005

Since I'm not able to find Safari -my favorite for 7years now-in the retail stores any longer, I've got recently a bottle through PERFUMEEMPORIUM website and was very pleased with the shipping experience and the whole service. I would like to try from the site some other perfumes just in case one day you run out of Safari; can anyone from the Safari fans recommend to me a brand that smells like safari from the brand list that is proposed on this site?

  • SAM04/15/2005

I've been wearing Safari for 7 years now and it's by far my favorite perfume; since it's getting very difficult to find it, are you aware of any perfume that smells like safari?

  • SAM04/11/2005

Since Safari is being discontinued, I would like to adopt a new perfume; any idea about a replacement that smells like or close to safari?

  • MAGICA04/11/2005

It used to be my signature fragrance too. I just do not try to find it anymore as it is so sad it is discontinued. Of all perfumes, why would hey discontue this one so fantastic?

  • CK03/31/2005

Many don't realize the hidden gems you can find in some discount stores if you only take time to look. Many are not familiar with some of the wonderful scents out there and because I LOVE perfume I am always on the "hunt". Safari is a fruity-green scent, beautiful! I found the body lotion first! Very pretty bottle and then later the 2.5 edp spray! It can be daytime of evening or whatever you feel!

  • PAM02/03/2005

My absolute most favorite fragrance and I've been told it's discontinued. Way, way hard to find. I've even tried to buy samples from Ulta. And they won't sell!!!!

  • SHARRIE01/29/2005

ive got jungle fever. wild like am animal. great. like being on the run on a safari high. wonderful.

  • CAROL12/16/2004

I have also worn Safari for many, many years and have always gotten compliments on it. I have also been told that it has been or is being discontinued. :(

  • MARY ANN12/05/2004

I've worn it for years & got may compliments. I am unable to find it in store anywhere and they all tell me it has been discontinued. Surely not!! Where can I find it?

  • PATRICK11/28/2004

Like all perfumes and colognes, not every scent is for everyone. On the right skin type, Safari is absolutely gorgeous - a real turn-on, very glamorous and very classy. But - on the wrong skin, Safari can smell like cat's urine, which is obviously not ideal! So I would advise you to test it and wear it for a day to make sure it suits your skin type, and if it does - prepare to turn heads!

  • KAREN S.11/06/2004

Not my type of bottle design so this was an indicator that' it's not my scent either -starts off too strong but M.O.R. dries down to a synthetic musk on me. Again it's probably body chemistry

  • SUE C11/04/2004

This is one of my top 5 favourites. It is rarity in perfumes - it is designed for the summer outdoors yet is glamourous and romantic and not at all sharp or too sporty. Imagine stumbling across a beautifully cultivated oasis-like garden of exotic flowers in the middle of the savannah grasslands of Africa. Safari starts off with a fresh green cut-grass scent followed by a profusion of beautiful flowers smelling like jonquils, roses etc. and finishes with a very soft feminine and ladylike powdery scent. This perfume has excellent lasting power and stays true for 24 hrs. A quality timeless classic that I never tire of, and the gorgeous bottle is spot-on with the image it evokes. Imagine yourself dressed in beautiful silk and linen waiting to meet Robert Redford in Out of Africa!!

  • JAH09/08/2004

When I was a teen my girlfriend's mom used to wear this. Something about it was intriguing and mysterious. We used to sneak into her room when she wasn't home and we'd spray this all over ourselves. I loved it then and I love it now 13 years later.

  • JODIE09/02/2004

This is a more mature scent. I like it for a confident, assertive, businesswoman. Certainly not a fragrance for teens.

  • DUCKY08/23/2004

HEY EVERYONE THAT IS HORRIFIED THAT SAFARI IS SO HARD TO FIND NOW. TRY VIVIENNE WESTWOOD BOUDOIR INSTEAD. THIS SMELLS IDENTICAL TO MY NOSE, AND THE BOTTLE IS ALMOST AS BEAUTIFUL, (ALTHOUGH PERHAPS QUIRKY RATHER THAN SOPHISTICATED) GOOD LUCK!

  • JODY COLE08/05/2004

My favorite forever! Tell us where you can get the cologne and body lotion....surely you have some stashed somewhere!!

  • JACQUIE07/23/2004

I have been wearing this Perfume since it first came out. Hate it has been discontinued. It should have been glorous instead.

  • DANIELLA07/21/2004

I really wanted to buy this a while back because I loved the pretty bottle it comes in! Smelled awful on me, though. Maybe they could use the same bottle design for another scent...

  • DIANA07/05/2004

i was very pleased on the timely maner that you shipped my requested purchase. Even when i thought that a discontinued product was unavailable, you were able to come through. thanks a bunch for your reliabilitiy.

  • CHERYL DARNELL07/02/2004

I love this perfume and so do the men. Goes well with Bath and Body Works "vanilla lotion"! Accidently wore both one time and had many compliments. Tried the two together since then and get same response from men.

  • KAREN06/30/2004

I have been wearing this for years. Why did they stop making something that smells so great?

  • LLL05/25/2004

...so many of you gals liked this perfume. I inherited a new, big bottle of it from a friend who decided she didn't like it, and I have to say I didn't like it either. Which surprised me, as I am a perfume fanatic and like a LOT of different scents. I'm sorry to say that I eventually just threw the bottle away, thinking I really didn't know what else to do with it. That was before I discovered this site; I would have gladly given any of you the bottle. A shame. Hey, that'd be an interesting web site--where women swap perfumes they didn't like with each other.

  • LAURA05/20/2004

Hi, not sure what really comes that close. I would look for scents that have similar base notes as Safari (if that helps). I feel your pain because trying to find something to replace it seems next to impossible. Let me know if you come across anything.

  • MAGICA05/11/2004

That is really such a pity that it is actually discontinued. So does anybody have any suggestions of similar scents? I read Chanel 19 would be similar, but not to me, I cannot smell any resemblance whatsoever. What about Boudoir, it is a little bit similar maybe, or even Silence by Jacomo. Does anybody have any suggestion on Safari "like" frangrances?

  • LAURA05/04/2004

Yes, it is true. I emailed Polo on 5/3/04 and received a response that they are no longer making the women's Safari. That really does stink because I have been wearing it since it came out and it is my #1 scent! The next best RL is Glamourous. Allure by Chanel is probably going to be my replacement, but nothing as great as Safari is on the market!

  • DIMMA GREECE04/18/2004

Wore it on my big fat wedding day! It was perfect!

  • MAGICA04/06/2004

Does anybody know if it is really discontinued? I hope not. Well if it is so, what perfumes could be good replacements?

  • DINA03/25/2004

I have been wearing this since it came out and can't believe they've discontinued it! Any suggestions on a replacement fragrance?

  • DINA03/23/2004

I have been wearing Safari since it first came out. I have consistently gotten compliments on it, so it works well with my body chemisrty. Discontinued!? Any suggestions on another comparabale scent to try?

  • JOY03/01/2004

    love this product!

  • DANNA SMALLEY 01/19/2004

i look for a long time to find a perfume that wasnt overbearing that would last along time finnaly i found one today i went to buy some more it was safari i was told you were discounting it would no longer be in stores im am very disapointed ihave really enjoyed using this product an have had more compliments on than any other i have ever worn i think taking it off the market is a mistake

  • MARY01/18/2004

I love this fragrance, I always get comments. I don't think it smell like dry wine at all. every one has different body chemistry, this one works with mine.

  • KATHY01/16/2004

Have been wearing Safari for 13 years. Only perfume I like, when I found out that it was discontinued, I bought 19 bottles!

  • WANDA BALDWIN01/08/2004

I am having a hard time finding Safari perfume in Jackson, MS. They told me it is discontinued. I say NO, please NO. I have been wearing it exclusively since the early 1990s and have so many comments on my perfume. Men want to know to buy it for their wife.

  • CONNIE10/26/2003

Yes it is being discontinued. I called the home office direct in New York and emailed them. They advised me that it is true. I am extremely upset. It is the only thing I have worn for the last 10 yrs. Very allergic to most other colognes. I say we all unite. If you go to their website you can write them from there and you can also get the 800 number to call. If enough people complain- which the girl kind of indicated it could help save it.

  • LAURA05/21/2003

I am still able to locate Safari on Ralph's Web site. I also asked about the fragrance at my local Macy's and the manager said that she has heard nothing about it being discontinued; surprisingly, perhaps, it is one of their top sellers. Don't worry about it...I think Safari will be with us for a very long time. I've been wearing this fragrance since 1992.

  • BARBARA05/19/2003

Have been using all Safari products since 1990 and love them all. Can't find Safari anymore. Surely, they aren't going to discontinue fragrance. Ralph Lauren, are you listening????

  • PERFUME JUNKIE05/11/2003

I like this scent a lot. It's nice but discreet. And the bottle it to die for!

  • THERESA05/05/2003

Does anyone know if I can get any safari body cream at this website?

  • SUZY FERNANDES05/01/2003

I have worn this perfume for almost 5 years. I get more compliments on it all of the time. It's one of my very favorites. Right up there with Obsession.

  • JILLIAN03/13/2003

I have used Safari since it came on the market in 1990. I LOVE IT!! I get compliments on it all the time. Even though the description says it is for casual wear I use LAUREN for my daily/casual wear and save SAFARI for evening/dressy times.

  • MARY03/09/2003

Yes, this scent reminds me too of very dry wine. Tried to like this, have a small collectible bottle but everytime I try to wear it I end up washing it off after a couple of hours. My sister-in-law has been wearing this for years even tough it does not smell so good on her iether. I have given her a couple of new fragrances over the years as Christmas gifts but I think she still prefers the Safari. Don't know why!

  • SILVY03/02/2003

THIS PERFUME IS DEFINATLY A NO NO. TOTALLY OVERSTRONG AND OBNOXIOUS

  • CAMILLA12/04/2002

This is the nicest fragrance I know, I worn it on and off since 1994, it is just so warm and joyous. It is very unusual and magnificent.

  • TAMAR11/12/2002

My YOUNG mum had a bottle of this perfume and though I liked the smell from the bottle very much I didn’t like how it smelt on her skin. I tried it and it smelt awful on me too.

  • LISA MARIE11/07/2002

Try Chanel no 19...smell it after it's been on you for a half-hour to an hour.

  • KRISTA11/06/2002

I have been wearing it since my early twenties. It is such a warm fragrence that I love to wear it when the weather turns cold.

  • PAT09/20/2002

ITS THE ONLY THING THAT I USE, LOVE IT!

  • HONG TRAM05/27/2002

Too strong, giving me a headache. This parfum for older women. I don't like it.

  • CARLA05/03/2002

They don't sell it at Ralph Lauren's website anymore. Does this mean it is going to be discontinued? this one is becoming one of my all-time favorites

  • PETA05/02/2002

Safari is my absolute favourite - I have worn it for many years and always get compliments. It is soft and feminine.

  • CHERIE04/13/2002

*****Enchanting! My husband says it's the only fragrance he wants me to wear... I get compliments from men all the time when I wear this scent. Fresh, clean, & sexy!

  • CARLA04/02/2002

Don't like the name/packaging too much, but the fragrance is very good. Floral, not too sweet with just a hint of spice.Balanced, very pretty

  • STEPHANIE03/31/2002

For some reason the smell of this fragrance reminds me of the taste of very dry wine. Definitely not one of those sweet cloying scents. Almost too dry for me!

  • RHONDA03/27/2002

This smells heavenly on my 17 year old daughter. It is the only fragrance I buy for her and she loves it. I just ordered the mini for her to carry in her purse. Everyone always asks her what she is wearing. I highly recommend!!!

  • TRACY03/12/2002

I have found that with my body chemistry, as the day wears on not all perfumes smell as good as they do when first applied - not so with Safari - I think it actually smells better after awhile! To me, this is a classic fragrance, great for day or night!

  • ASCHATAN03/11/2002

I associate this fragrance with elderly women, I don't like it at all.

  • LESLIE03/09/2002

I received this as a gift a month ago, and I think it's definately for older women.

  • BARBARA 01/17/2002

I have been wearing this off and on since it first came out.Great smell

  • DONNA01/07/2002

Best Fragrance I have ever worn. I have at least 5 people ask me what I am wearing or tell me I smell good everytime I wear it. From old men to kid and everyone in between. I am sorry to see so many products discontinued. I am afraid it will be totally gone soon.

  • AIMEE12/20/2001

Lotion; flowers; quickly turns to amber; ends with a light woody smell. It is nice, but it's too peppery/powdery for me. Boyfriend's comments: Like you just got out of the shower: Pez candy.

  • HARRIET11/30/2001

One of my two favorite fragrances.

  • LINDA12/09/2000

This is a magnificent fragrance... a little wild, not flowery or soapy... just heaven
